Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, today announced the scrapping of post UTME examinations organized by various Universities for prospective students who partake in JAMB examinations.
Speaking at the opening of the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria, Adamu said the Federal government had confidence in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), adding that there was no need for other examination to be conducted by universities after JAMB.
“As far as I am concerned, the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing. The universities should not be holding another examination and if the universities have any complain against JAMB let them bring it and then we address it. If JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission” he said
Meanwhile JAMB authorities has put the cutoff mark for admission into all Tertiary institutions at 180. Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, announced this today at the event.
“180 is given, no institution will go below 180 this year, And some universities can go above it, I know University of Ife will not go below 200 and University of Lagos will not go below 200 and also UI. All these ones stand but 180 as bench mark for others. This year we have more than enough candidates, we have over 1.5 million candidates so we will get enough candidates to take in all the schools if they are serious. Re-distribution is already ongoing, because it is embedded in the registration procedure.”he said

The wedding took place at a secondary school beside the defunct Concord Newspaper in Ikeja. Dejo’s first wife, who’s the bride’s mum is late and thus his newly married wife, Adeola stood in her place.

Yesterday, singer Wizkid was called out by Humble Entertainment, a show promoting agency in London, for allegedly collecting money and failing to perform at a concert in the UK.
However, Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are, denied the allegations, saying the supposed performance had never been discussed with him or the management.
It has been revealed that a 19-year-old girl has been posing as the ‘Baba nla’ singer on social media, deceiving many people including students of the University of Lagos.
According to reports, the unnamed girl was later arrested by the police yesterday.
Confirming the arrest, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni revealed how she recently duped two people.
Owoseni stated that the suspect, defrauded one of the victims of $49,000 while the other victim was duped of $12,000. The girl’s cover was blown after Wizkid complained to the police commissioner that someone had been impersonating him and collecting money for shows.
CP Owoseni revealed that after a thorough investigation, the suspect was arrested.
He released a statement yesterday, saying;
“A lady was arrested for posing as Wizkid and duping two people outside Nigeria. Members of the public should be very careful of sending money to people they meet online. The lady collected money from people in the United States and they thought they were paying money to Wizkid to come and perform. They did not know they were dealing with fraudsters. Nigerians should warn friends and relatives overseas to be careful in sending money to anyone, especially someone they did not know or have not seen.”
Recently the news broke that Runtown and his record label, Ericmanny Entertainment were having contracutal issues.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had slammed an injunction against the rising musical artiste Douglas Jack-Agu aka “Runtown“.
The injunction prevents him from performing at any event or any form of recording for the time being unless with the approval of his record label, Ericmany Limited.
Ericmany Entertainment label which presently holds the copyright to all Runtown’s music is owned by billionaire businessman, Okwudili Umenyiora.
Reports says trouble started when Runtown apparently with the connivance of Bug Media ran by one Bugwu Aneto began to sideline Ericmany and collected money directly for shows without the knowledge of Ericmany.
Bug Media is also a party to the court case. In a new interview with Pulse, Runtown explained the reason for ditching the label.
Apart from the lack of financial support from the label, he said he wasn’t being paid his 35% from the start as stated in the contract.
According to the singer, “We started running, we went for shows and everything, and when I requested for my 35%, problem. I never got any 35% on it.
They would always say, ‘We are pushing, we need to put more stuff (money) to push’. The thing went on until 2015, when I was working on my album.”
He then mentioned an incident where Ericmanny’s CEO, Prince Okwudili Umenyiora aka Dilly pulled out a gun on him and physically threatened to ‘f_ck him up’.
Runtown said,
“In 2014, I went to London, and the label started calling me and saying that ‘Why didn’t I tell anyone before going to London?’ I didn’t go to London for shows or anything, I went there for vacation. When I got back, I went to Mr Dilly’s house, and he started ranting, and asking ‘Why did I travel?’ I told him that it’s just like travelling to Enugu to see my mum, that it’s just London, just like anywhere, that the contract does not state that I cannot have personal travels.” “The next thing, He (Dilly) pulled out a gun, and threatened me, and said he was going to f***k me up. I felt scared and confused. I didn’t go to London to do a show and they found out. I went there for my vacation. So the threats kept going on.”
Runtown then confirmed the speculations that Dilly was indeed an ex-convict who went to prison for fraud in the United States and is currently banned from the country.
He made this known while narrating an experience where Dilly cunningly tried to use a ‘Nicki Minaj collaboration’ to get him to sign a contract extension when he was about to shoot his video with DJ Khaled in the US.
He said,
“When I was about to drop the video, he called me out of the blues, that he was going to get Nicki Minaj on the album. I accepted, being that a Nicki Minaj will be good on the album. When we were in the US, he kept on calling and asking if we can get across to Minaj. He couldn’t come to the US himself because he is banned by the US Government to return to the country. He has fraud issues.” “He kept on calling about the Nicki Minaj people that he is ready to play. Then he brought a contract extension for another two years stating that if he pays for the Nicki Minaj deal, then he will need a 2-year extension to recoup his investment. I wasn’t around then, so the management handed the contract to a guy we worked with, and dropped it there. Neither I nor my manager, Aneto-Okeke Bugwu, were around. He called me on the phone threatening me that if I don’t extend the contract, he will kill me, and bury my career, and that he isn’t going to release my album.”
Eniola Badmus, made popular by such comic roles like the one she played in movies ‘Jenifa’ is lucky to have clinched endorsements with multinational companies, Activ TV, and now telecommunication giant, Etisalat, but the road has not been an easy one.
In an interview with Encomium the plus sized actress revealed that she did not get the support of her parents at the beginning. She also spoke about her love life and why she keeps it private.
Read excerpts of the interview:
What is your opinion about the state of the industry right now?
The industry has gone far. It is not what it was 10 years ago. The technical, pictures, lighting have improved. The leverage is huge now. You can watch our movies anywhere in Nigeria at the cinema. We are getting there gradually.
Will you say movies are still selling?
We are aware that piracy is the major problem. I believe if we take bold steps, we will be able to sell more.
Do you think it is possible for a producer to recoup the money invested in a movie?
Yes, it is possible. If they don’t get their money back, they would have stopped. It might not be huge but certainly, they are getting returns from their investment.
What tips can you give the up and coming acts that will make them succeed in the movie industry?
They should ask themselves if they are ready. When I started out, I wasn’t fully prepared. What I got after my career kicked off was far from my dreams. They should be prepared and be ready to bear the consequences of their decisions. Like people abusing them on social media, going to locations and not getting paid.
They need to be determined and focused. If not, frustration will set in and they will quit. The job can be frustrating when starting up. You have to go to locations, you may not be paid. You may go on set and they may not do your beat for days. I went to set and I wasn’t paid. I can’t even count the number of times I went through that. That is the industry.
When you are a new comer, it can be frustrating but I was strong. I never thought of quitting, though my parents didn’t like my decision to become an actress. They almost had a fight with me become I didn’t come home. They would look for me. It was later they left me after fighting me severally.
How is your love life?
Those are the things I don’t like talking about. Let us just talk about my career. I don’t believe in talking about personal issues to the press and social media. They won’t make such relationship last.
What is your take about celebrities and social media?
Nigerians in the disapora do not really have loyal fans. My fans are other celebrities’ fans. We don’t have fans that wouldn’t move out from you.
So, I don’t reply them. I am a comic person. I don’t reply them. Nothing gets to me. There are some comments that get to me but I don’t reply.
I am not about that. They are the same set of people that will praise me tomorrow. It is better to ignore such comments.

The young woman, identified as Musa Jamila, a 26-year-old indigene of Edo State is reportedly struggling with her sight and acid burns after a certain woman reportedly sent a man to attack her over claims she (Jamila) was dating her husband.
Jamila who works with Flour Mills is resident in Abuja.
The incident happened at about 10pm on Democracy day in Zuba, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
According to the Nation, Jamila on the said day heard a voice at her door, saying he had a message from her ‘married man’ boyfriend.
Jamila, who suspects her boyfriend’s wife for her ordeal, said she recognised the voice as that of the wife’s brother and that was why she opened the door.
Narrating her ordeal, she said, “A minute to 10pm on Sunday, I was sleeping in my room when I heard a knock on my door. I didn’t recognise the voice immediately but now I am sure of the voice. He said my boyfriend sent him to give me a message.
“My boyfriend usually sends motorcycle operators to me so I assumed he was the one that sent this one and as I was trying to open the door, he poured the acid on my face.
I rushed outside, I could not shout for about five minutes but when I started shouting, my neighbours gathered and washed my face with soap; they applied honey and pap to it before rushing me to the Kubwa General Hospital.
“I suspect his wife sent someone to attack me, I did not know at first that he was married but when I realised it, I tried to cut him off. I only knew that he was married when his wife started sending me text messages, insulting and threatening me, I even told him that I was going to report her to the police but he asked me to leave her alone.”
Jamila noted that she had reported the matter to the Zuba police station and some officers promised to arrest her boyfriend, his wife and her brother.
Jamila’s co-worker, Banji Johnson, described her as gentle and hard working.
Banji said:
“We have worked together for about a year and half, she is not troublesome, never quarrels with anyone, free and extremely hard-working so we were surprised at what happened to her.
“We mobilised ourselves to visit her as soon as we heard the news in the office. We believe that with God, all things are possible and she will get better. We appeal to the hospital to take care of her.”
Jamila’s younger sister, Hassana confessed that she did not recognise her sister when she visited her at the hospital.
“We don’t stay together, my elder sister called me yesterday to say someone poured Jamila acid and when I came to check on her, I could not recognise her. Our father is dead but our mother is still alive and on her way here.”
Meanwhile, Jamila has accused the management of the Kubwa General Hospital of negligence.
“The people in Kubwa General Hospital are not attending to me, I feel as if my condition is now worse, compared to when I came; I can no longer see well, the acid did not affect my eyeballs so I believe that when the swelling reduces, I will see again.
“But they are not attending to me, if they cannot treat me, they should refer me elsewhere, they should take care of me, I don’t want to lose my sight. Look at my face, I want to recover from this, the acid did not affect my eyeball, I can see the reflection of light from the windows.
“I just want the swelling to go down but I feel abandoned, they treat others and abandon me, if they cannot do it, they should refer me to another hospital. This thing was not like this when I came here; I am scared; I don’t want to rot here.”
But the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Amadu Danfulani, told the newspaper that the doctors have been treating her since she was admitted on Sunday.
“We have not neglected her, she is being treated; she was treated this morning and given her regular medication.
“She is in pains but we cannot give her an overdose of pain relief, we will till the appropriate time to give her the medication but she is in good hands and we are taking care of her.”
The doctor in charge of Jamila’s case, Dr Okuonghu Frank hoped that her sight will be better when the swelling reduces.
“Her fears of blindness are because of the swelling but once the swelling reduces, hopefully, she will see better. But that is not to say everything is okay because there are some follow-ups to do.
“She has the right to be scared but with adequate management, she will get better. Hers is different, she was not seriously burnt, it is superficial burns, her skin was not really burnt,” Frank stated.
