Dancing to rake in money
Dancing in a Yoruba marriage is an opportunity for the couple to make some money. The bride and groom usually take to the dance floor while they are circled by friends, family and well-wishers who spray cash on their heads.
At the end of the wedding ceremony, the money accrued will be used to settle some minor debts incurred while planning the wedding and cover some expenses like paying for canopies, cake, and drinks among other strange things.
Facts have emerged on how Aisha Isa Fagge, a newly-wedded bride was killed just twelve days after her wedding.
The Kano bride was found brutally murdered by unknown person(s) in August 2015 and there were no traces as to who could have perpetrated the dastardly act.
But, five months down the line, facts have started building up on the possibility of her husband being involved in the untimely death of the bride which incident occurred in Sharada Ja’en Quarters, Kano.
According to Daily Trust, Alhaji Nura Muhammad, the deceased’s husband told police that he found her lifeless body in the sitting room, with both of her hands tied with a rope.
In his explanation, Muhammad confirmed that he had spoken with her on the phone at about 10.00am that day and all was well but became worried when he got home and did not get a response to the knocks on the door.
He said: “A neighbour, Rabi’u Abdulkadir, joined me and we broke down the door, and entered the house to find Aisha dead.”
Contrary to police reports that she was raped, a family source revealed that the women who performed the cleansing ritual on the late bride’s corpse, confirmed that there were no signs of rape, insisting that she was used for ritual.
The source said: “She was found fully-clothed with no sign of struggle or assault. Only her husband, Nura, can shed true light, as he was the first person on the murder scene.”
According to Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Magaji Musa Majia, “Late Aisha was found dead, naked with her two hands tied with a rope, suggesting that she was raped before killed.
“Police had during investigation discovered some bloodstains and semen on Abdulzahir Muhammad Saminu, one of the two suspects arrested. Saminu is the groom’s friend, while the other suspect is Rabi’u Abdulkadir, a neighbor.”
But when the case came up last Monday for continuation, Alhaji Muhammad, the deceased’s husband had been arrested on the premises of the court as requested by the prosecution counsel Barrister Lamido Abba Soron-Dinki.
The PPRO informed afterwards that, “We have strong evidence that Nura had a hand in the murder of late Aisha,” adding that he is being interrogated at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command.
While being taken to a vehicle parked at the premises of the court, Muhammad reportedly told journalists that, “Even if one of the two accused persons is my friend does not mean I am party to the murder of my late wife. Why on earth would I kill my own wife?”
The late bride’s father, Alhaji Isa Fagge, while commenting on the sad incident, told Daily Trust although he was shocked with the turn of things, he has left everything to God.
“I’ve left everything to God. I have lost her and she will never come back again,” he said, adding that since the police have taken over the case, he hopes justice will prevail.

21 year old Bobby Shmurda has been in jail since December 2014 for conspiracy to commit a murder.
He was back in court yesterday Jan. 19 and a Manhattan judge denied a request to lower or remove the rapper’s $2 million bail. This is the seventh time Shmurda and his lawyer Alex Spiro have appeared before a judge and failed to get his bail reduced.
According to reports from DNAinfo New York and TMZ, Spiro argued that the $2 million bail was set way too high and is based on a preconceived notion that the Brooklyn rapper is worth millions. A 2014 tax return from Sony revealed that he is worth $427,000.

An 8-yr-old girl has been allegedly married off to a 28-yr-old man, over three times her age in the Northern part of Nigeria.
The man who has been identified as Baba Ahmed reportedly paid dowry for his child bride on Sunday, January 17 in the Zaria area of Kaduna state, according to blogger Linda Ikeji.
It was also gathered that though the wedding ceremony has taken place, the little girl won’t live with her alleged husband till she reaches the age of 17.

In curbing the wide spread of the dreaded Lassa fever, the federal government has cleared the air concerning the handling of dead bodies by relatives of the deceased by stating that they would be allowed to do so as religious and cultural beliefs must be respected.
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Abdusalam Nasidi, made the views and observations on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the emergency National Council on Health on Lassa fever outbreak.
He said relatives of the deceased must oblige to disinfect dead bodies which should be carried before and after in double body bags as well as ensuring that graves are dug very deep.
“Families will not be denied the bodies of their deceased relatines because there must be respect for religious and cultural beliefs. The real problem is that the culture of some people to wash dead bodies before burial. However, we warn against contact with the bodies as a bid towards curtailing the virus.
“Relatives will have to ensure that the bodies of the deceased are disinfected with chlorine and it is recommend that the bodies should be packaged in double body bags. We also advise that graves must be dug very deep.”
In thesame vein, a male patient who tested positive to the disease was reported to have escaped from a hospital in Ebonyi state to an unknown destination.
The minister of health, Prof Isaac Adewole who expressed dismay concerning the situation stated that the patient could not have absconded on his own without the help of some of the healthcare givers in the hospital and has so far directed that the patient must be looked for and treated immediately.
“He should be traced and taken back to the facility. He should be reassured that he will live if the treatment is done promptly as he could not have absconded on his own without the support of the health officers.
He lamented that so much is been expected from the Ebonyi state government as it has not done enough. He said there was no need for patients to be transferred to Irrua in Edo state when the state has a functional healthcare centre.

For 7-year-old Mukesh Kerayi, the horoscopes held doom and gloom.
It suggested his first wife will die young, and as if maternal burdens weren’t enough for his young shoulders to bear, he grew a tooth in the upper part of his mouth, a most ominous omen in his hometown of Jharkhand, India.
It was with this in mind that his family arranged a marriage to the fated first wife, a dog, that way, there’ll be no teary eyes when the bitch passes on. It is said that every dog has its day and for this dog, it was no puppy affair.
For the big day, the family dressed the dog in a bridal outfit and the village turned out for the celebrations just like a normal wedding.
They danced and cheered as though it was Mukesh’s real life wedding, it was claimed.
His grandfather, Ashok Kumar Leyangi, 43, said: ‘We believe the marriage will ward off any bad omen attached to the boy. This is traditional practice in our tribal community and we still believe in these old customs. We feel that it is our adult responsibility to keep our children safe and happy this way.’
These marriages usually take place between January 15 and January 21 each year.
The government in India is still trying to educate rural and tribal communities that these acts of superstition are wrong but despite these efforts, many of the region’s tribal communities still follow horoscopes and other superstitions religiously.
The family added that the dog is now back on the streets and is not living at their home.

Tanzanian president, John Pombe Magufuli has reportedly banned the wearing of miniskirts in the country saying he believes the garments, along with short dresses, encourage the spread of HIV/Aids.
Tanzania Cultural Development Director Herman Mwansoko said all Tanzanian women have three months within which to “get rid of miniskirts for replacement with decent garments.”
This is the latest sweeping move from the strict moralist who recently banned Twerking. Magufuli said the rhythmic gyrating of the lower fleshy extremities in a lascivious manner would dilute the much respected African traditional dances.
Following his sweeping victory last October, Magufuli has become an international hero due to cost-cutting measures that he introduced across the country.
