“Olamide vs Don Jazzy Beef Is Good For The Music Industry”

By Joey Akan

unnamed

The 2015 Headies will forever be remembered in the hearts of the media, the fans, the artistes, the press, the critics, and every player involved in what we call the Nigerian music industry.

Vector got recognised for his hard work, Timi Dakolo smiled home with multiple awards, Olamide was crowned the King of Nigeria, and M.I Abaga can sleep happily after having his “Chairman” album rated as an ass kicker in the rap category.

But the chief reason why we would all recall this glorious night of wonder and share fond tales with our kids and the kids after them, is the bad blood and show of shame by Mavin Records omnipotent boss, Don Jazzy, and YBNL’s street champion and messiah, Olamide.

Who would have thought these two had it in them to brawl in the open space? Good Lord! This episode is worth its weight in PR Gold.
Olamide and Don Jazzy both came into the night rooting for their acts to win in various categories. But the main prize of the night lay in the Next Rated category which came with the added benefits of a car for the winning artiste.

Prior to the evening, popular opinion gave the gong to Lil Kesh, who has had an immensely successful year. But opinion is cheap. Everybody owns one. Heck, I even rooted for Shania Twain to nick the Best Recording awards. That was my opinion, and it cost me nothing. See?

But on the stage where it mattered most, Mavin Records boy wonder and pop singer Reekado Banks was announced winner. Here was a shocker to many people. Lil Kesh lost. But Olamide disagreed. He even pulled a Kanye West.

“Adekunle Gold let’s be honest, this award belongs to Lil Kesh, because Lil Kesh is our Next Rated artist”, he said. “Every single was a hit back to back, from ‘Lyrically’ to ‘Shoki’ to ‘Efejoku’”. After which the rapper cursed before dropping the microphone and walking off stage.

Don Jazzy, not feeling the sub at his deserving child, fought back with some bite.

“Olamide, if you want the car, come and collect it”. After which he and the Mavin entourage left the event.

This moment right there by Don Jazzy, became legend, as it prompted Olamide to bare his heart on Twitter. That heart was bitter and had a can of worms.
In November, I had predicted this episode. We as a music industry we are lacking in reality and genuineness. This is because the real issues get swept under the collective industry rug, branded confidential and controversial and allowed to fester in the minds of those affected.

But on this episode, it spilled so badly, that it was good. Which neutral observer doesn’t enjoy this drama? Who?
Beef in itself is good for the art. Although in the Western cultures, it tends to spill blood and result in loss of life, in Africa, our artistes and all their representatives lack that amount of conviction mixed with hatred to pull off a killing because of beef. No one has that guts, We are too conscious of our status to compromise our careers on it.
So where are our Nigerian beefs? Where are our thrilling diss tracks, messy twitter fights, and entertaining words of social media anger, banter and bile? Why have the Nigerian fan not enjoyed some of this?

The truth is simple. Nigerian artistes don’t in their hearts love themselves. Most of them are a bunch of haters unto themselves. They long for each other’s success, see another’s gains as a personal chance lost for them. They carry out ingenious plans to steal each other’s beats and choruses, and when that fails, they copy it and try to improve on it so as to take the shine off the other guy, thereby killing off his song.

Honestly, ignore all the high-fives, selfies, bonding on Instagram, birthday shout-outs, gay tweets and supportive interviews. Deep down, and in muted conversations, when the cameras are gone, and the lights are off, there’s anger, bad blood and bile. That’s when the real story is turned on, and the intrigue that scratches the underbelly of what we call celebrity lifestyle come to the fore.

Once in a while, this escapes into the open, and it becomes a good reason to follow the news. But almost all of it gets swept under the carpet due to compromise, bullying and media cowardice. See Basketmouth and Sean Tizzles exchanges here. It’s just a sneak peek into what the real story is.

The reason why our artistes don’t beef is fear. A typical Nigerian artiste who has had considerable success is a walking bag of skin, blood, bones and consummate fear. They are scared for their careers; they are scared for their cash-flows, endorsement deals, and reputation. They hold tightly onto the image they have, and try their best to not upset their cart. What makes theirs further interesting is that they have perfected the art of masquerading this fear as moral superiority and undeterred focus on their music, films, comedy and art.

This fear which rules the industry has taken off the element of relativity from the it. We are all flawed beings, and beefs are a normal way to express unhealthy struggle. But with each new way the artistes devise to hide their disgust at the next singer and rapper, they further alienate their fans from the true workings of their minds, and lose out on the opportunity to grow a cult following based on relativity. Fans adore truth. They love fallible humans, who they can project their personal misdemeanours, character flaws, and indiscretions.

Check out the biggest stars in Nigerian pop culture, and see a trail of imperfections. Wizkid loves his weed, Burna Boy’s arrogance and veiled disgust for humans is happy fodder, Jim Iyke is a gift that keeps on giving, Charlie Boy is a master of dark spectacle, 2face Idibia has a chronicled history with women, D’banj is all shades of robust living and ‘debts’, Iyanya’s need to show off his anatomy sparks of lovable narcissism, and Davido can’t just stop spending without caution.

Someday, there will be a big bang in the industry. All these pent-up emotions that haven’t been acted upon will rise to the fore, and break free. There will be some sort of emotional purge and cleansing, and it will be ugly, very ugly. There will be books written on wrongdoings, epistles crafted to expose some indiscretion, the mother of all tweet fights and everyone will be smeared by this Beefpocalypse. It will be artiste versus artistes, actor versus actor, journalist versus artiste, journalist versus journalist, veterans versus newbies, and most amusing, veterans versus veterans. For now it’s Don Jazzy and Olamide. Just imagine a 2face and Modenine beef!
How enthralling a contest that would be.

When this happens, only then can this brand of ‘fakeness’ which the average fan has given to the industry be removed, and true followership can rsie in its stead. Until then, all is fair, square and sunny, in Nigerian entertainment. And we all have to believe that.

Eva Alordiah might be officially off the Market.

The music star got engaged to her Boyfriend Caeser on stage in the early hours of January 2nd, 2016.

Eva joined Kenyan music star Victoria Kimani on stage for a performance at the Headies 2015 show and just as she was about to get off stage, her boyfriend came on stage and knelt in front of her mouthing what looked very much like the “big question”.

He stood up and they sealed their couple of minutes on stage with a passionate kiss.

Lil Kesh Reacts To The Ongoing Don Jazzy vs Olamide Drama

Lil-Kesh

YBNL Atiste – Lil Kesh has something to say.

Kesh is the middle man in this latest controversy/beef between Olamide and Don Jazzy.

Super-producer, Don Jazzy and rapper, Olamide are at loggerheads over Lil Kesh’s failure to win the Next Rated artiste at the Headies 2015 Awards.

The pair have exchanged words over Reekado Bank’s winning of the award.

But Lil Kesh, who many expected to win the award, says the car-gift that’s tied to the category, means little to him as he makes more than the SUV in two weeks.

Olamide and Don Jazzy Epic Fight At The Headies over The Next Rated Award

Mavin-Don-Jazzy (1)

Hahaha, This Just Happened Guys. This is so Fucking Fun!

During The Headies Award Show, Where Adekunle Gold and The YBNL Crew came out to receive Gold’s Award for The Best Alternative Song – Sade…..Olamide Pulled a “Kanye”. He ranted on How Lil kesh was cheated on again, and it’s all evident He should have won.

The Next Rated Award comes with a lot of recognition (and the bonus of a brand Hyundai Car).

While a lot of people expected Lil Kesh to win, the award went to Mavin artist Reekado Banks.

How it started:

After Adekunle Gold’s Speech, Olamide collected the Mic and said Adekunle Gold’s award belongs to Lil Kesh because He’s The Next Rated Artiste and Everyone knows this.

Olamide Further said on stage that “Lil Kesh Has released Hit Tracks Back To Back, From Shoki to Efejoku among others” and he wonders why the “Next Rated” Award would go to someone else.

It was unclear if Olamide was shading the Mavin Crew, But it was evident that he was talking to the Headies Organizers.

A very pissed off Olamide after his whole speech threw the cup he was holding and slammed the mic and walked off stage.

Few Minutes Later, an award for the Special Recognition was awarded to Don Jazzy, and the Mavin Boss came out to receive the award and gave a short speech.

Olamide-ft-Don-Jazzy-Skelemba-620x350

Don Jazzy who is known for not coming on stage to receive awards noted that he came down to the Headies to Support his Children (Dija, Korede Bello and Reekado Banks).

Apparently, after giving about 3 points, the Mavin Boss replied Olamide’s previous rant on stage. He said and I quote:

““Egbon Olamide, if you want the car, come and collect it”

To Add Salt to the Whole Injury, Don Jazzy said he could afford to buy cars for his “Kids”

After This Epic reply from Don Jazzy, He Walked off stage and Di’ja could be seen laughing really hard and dancing.

This all happened on Live TV!!

Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Bolanle Ambode visited the Epe General Hospital, Ibeju Lekki General Hospital and Lagos Island Maternity Hospital where she presented gifts to the first babies born in the early hours of the New Year. During her visit, she said one of the greatest gifts of God to humanity is the birth of a new baby, just as she reminded that God does not forget or abandon his own.

“The birth of a new baby is no doubt a sign that God does not forget or abandon his own, hence his magnanimity in making people flourish by enabling and allowing new babies come into the earth”

First Lady Ambode thereafter presented gifts to Amarachi Bright, who delivered a baby girl at Epe General Hospital at 12.01 am, Adeleke Abosede that also delivered a baby girl at exact 12:03am in Ibeju Lekki General Hospital and Okunowo Oluwakemi at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital to a baby boy at 12:01am.

Man strangles His 2-month-old Baby Born Outside wedlock

Karshe-Harmuel

A 25-year-old man, Abubakar Ibrahim, is currently being detained by the police in Taraba State for allegedly killing his two-months-old baby because he did not want to accept it because it was born out of wedlock by his lover.

The incident which happened at Unguwan Yandan in Jalingo, the state capital, according to information, occurred after Ibrahim failed to take care of the baby and the woman who delivered the child for him out of wedlock.

It was learnt that the suspect and the child’s mother, Karshe Harmuel, also 25, were living together as lovers before she got pregnant but when she was close to her Expected Day of Delivery (EDD), she left him to live with her uncle.

After she gave birth to a baby boy, Harmuel’s family members said Ibrahim ended the relationship and left her to take care of the baby.

The mother narrated that she had gone to meet Ibrahim on the fateful day to demand for money to buy soap and baby lotion and in the heat of anger, she left the baby behind, not knowing that he had a sinister motive in his mind.

“When I met him in the room, I asked him why he abandoned us. I told him since he decided to jilt me, he had to take care of his son. As I realised that he was not willing to listen to me, I left the baby with him and returned home.

A few minutes after I went back to pick my baby, I saw the man choking the neck of the baby.”

Harmuel’s uncle’s wife, Cecilia Hosea, said she urged Karshe to go back and pick her child.

“I asked Karshe to go back and pick the baby. When she brought back the baby, I collected the child. I then saw white fluid coming out from his month. I noticed that the baby had died. Karshe did not know that she was carrying a dead baby.”

Her uncle, John Hosea, who took care of her and the child, said he travelled to the village when the incident happened.

I was in the village when the incident happened. If I were at home when Karshe decided to take the baby to the man, I would not have allowed her.

I did not even know the man, I just saw him today at the police station and I told them at the station that the man was lucky I was in the village when he killed my grandchild, because I would have taken a revenge on him.

The man is very wicked, because since Karshe delivered, he only came to see her once, when he gave her N1,700 and told her that he named the child Ali.”

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joseph Kwaji, confirmed the incident, adding that the baby’s body had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, for autopsy and that the suspect was in police custody.

“Pray For President Buhari” – TB Joshua Reveals 2016 Prophecies

joshua

– There will be large scale scarcity, shortage of food. As a state, country, continent, we have to go back to the farm to arrest, to alleviate the forthcoming situation.

– Some countries will suffer excessive rainfall while others will suffer drought.

– I encourage the governments of all nations to invest in agriculture and to grant loans to deserving citizens to augment this effort.

The continent of Africa. How much have we disappointed God.

– Africa is supposed to be the breadbasket of the world. We are supposed to produce a large quantum of food for the world. This is our natural resource base. Food should be our primary export to other continents. Food in exchange for technology.

Politics

– African leaders should quickly arrest the political situation.

– More African countries will be under siege by terrorists because of pros and cons in choosing leaders. Mishandling of electoral processes will create a conducive atmosphere for terrorists.

– Politics will not be business as usual because of limited resources. There will be no profit in investing in politics because of governments’ limited resources and challenges.

– This now gives grace to those who are genuinely called to the job. When you are genuinely called to do the job, you will do it because of your love for it and not because of money.

– This year, do what you love. There’s money in love. Money in love brings peace and tranquility.

Pray for President Buhari
He has good intentions. A king’s intentions cannot be carried out properly without the support of the subjects. He needs your support, to lead us out of the valley.

The president will do everything to reject revaluation of the naira – which is a good idea from a good leader. But there will be overwhelming pressure which he will not be able to resist.

Nigerians, support and pray for your leader. The future is crying for help.
