We spent only N2.5 billion to clear bush; N16.4 billion used to register farmers, others: Agric Minister clarifies viral reports
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development says it spent N18.9 billion on farmers’ registration, soil sampling, mapping, and rehabilitation, among other things, not only on clearing bush during the COVID-19 lockdown.
The ministry’s spokesman Joel Oruche disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
The ministry came under knocks by Nigerians after the House of Representatives, during a probe hearing, raised doubts about the bush-clearing project of the ministry.
“During the lockdown of the country as a result of COVID-19, some companies took contracts worth about N18 billion for bush clearing from the federal ministry of agriculture for land preparation, rehabilitation of soil plant lab and others. We cannot shave their heads in their absence,” said Wole Oke, chairman of the House of Representatives committee on public accounts. “We have invited them to come and give us their own side by responding to the issues and show us the places they are supposed to have cleared. They have to take us to the land they cleared”
The ministry said it only carried out bush clearing and land preparation of 3,200 hectares in eight states (Osun, Ekiti, Edo, Cross River, Kaduna, Kwara, Plateau and Ogun), allocated by their governments at the cost of N2.5 billion.
The agric ministry explained that the ministry executed other projects during the COVID–19 period that amounted to N18.9 billion, including rural road construction in the country’s six geopolitical zones. Others were soil sampling and mapping, farmers registration and rehabilitation and equipping four national soil laboratories in Umudike, Ibadan, Kaduna and Abuja.
“The ministry wishes to state that if the statement emanated from the House Public Account Committee, the committee must have been quoted out of context. To put the record straight, however, the ministry at no time received any audit query to warrant summon by the committee,” the ministry’s statement added.
According to the statement, the projects were part of a stimulus package under President Muhammadu Buhari’s Agriculture for Food and Jobs Programme to generate employment and grow the economy to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

UK-based Nigerian clergyman, Tobi Adegboyega, has addressed those who criticized him for shutting down his choristers mid-service and telling them their song was boring.
A few days ago, a video made the rounds online showing the clergyman berating the choristers in his church for their choice of song during a church service.
According to him, he asked them to stop singing because their song was “boring him to death”. ICYMI.
“Alright guys, thank you guys. Be seated please. Even though Living Stone is amazing but that song was boring me to death. So I had to come up men. But thanks guys. We would come up and sing in a minute.” He said.
The video elicited reactions from netizens, who slammed him for berating his choir.
Well, responding to his critics in a post via his Insta-stories, the pastor insisted that the song was boring.
Addressing his critics, he noted that they are dragging their prodecessors and not him.
He also took a jab at jobless Nigerians who have nothing to do and yet have time to drag him online.
“Let me be accountable the song was boring. It was actually very boring, the singers lit, the song boring. I don’t need anyone in Nigeria to speak for me or defend me. The draggees and draggers go take your medicine”, he said in part.

Lady reveals how she knew she hasn’t gotten over her ex-boyfriend
A woman’s tweet has gone viral on Twitter after she revealed how she knew she had not gotten over her ex-boyfriend.
@LeannPichardo took to the micro-blogging platform to disclose that she knew she was still stuck up on her ex when she masturbated to the sex tapes he made with the women he cheated on her with.
In the tweet that has garnered over forty thousand reactions, the lady wrote,
“I knew I wasn’t all there when I masturbated to the sex tapes my ex had of him cheating on me.”

Saudi Arabia sentences student to 34 years in prison for having a Twitter account and following dissident activists
A Saudi Arabian lady, studying at Leeds University UK, has been sentenced to 34 years in prison for having a Twitter account and following dissident activists.
The 34-year-old woman, Salma al-Shebab, was a PhD student in the UK and returned to Saudi Arabia on a vacation when she was arrested in January 2021.
She was planning to return to the UK in a few days when she was picked up by the Police and accused of using her Twitter account to “cause public unrest and destabilise civil and national security”.
Al-Shebab, who has two young sons aged four and six, had retweeted tweets calling for the release of a lady wrongfully detained in Saudi Arabia.
The tweet reads, “Freedom for Loujain Al-Hathloul … Freedom for all prisoners of conscience. Your freedom is my first wish for this New Year – Happy New Year.”
She would also retweet posts from dissident activists who were living in exile.
She was accused of “providing succour to those seeking to disrupt public order and undermine the safety of the general public and stability of the state, and publishing false and tendentious rumours on Twitter.”
Following her arrest, she was initially sentenced to 6 years in prison but after she appealed her sentence, a Saudi terrorism court increased her jail-term to 34 years on Tuesday, August 18.
Meanwhile, Loujain Al-Hathloul, whom she called for her release via Twitter, was released few weeks after her arrest while she remains behind bars.
Governor Wike gifts Peter Odili a mansion for his 74th birthday
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has gifted a mansion to ex-governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, on his 74th birthday.
The multi-million naira mansion, located in Old Government Residential Area, Port Harcourt, was said to be built and donated by the Rivers State Government, and a birthday party was held in the property to celebrate Odili on his special day.
Governor Wike spoke highly of Dr. Odili at the ceremony and lauded him for being a true leader of men who groomed many in the political space.
“There was a time every political class abandoned Dr. Odili. This is a man who gave us everything. Some people called him Mr. Donatus. There was no abuse he did not get. Everybody he tried to help their families, at the end of the day, all betrayed him,” he said.
“For us, we have used him as a school and we thank him for making himself available for us to use him to learn so that we won’t be shocked of whatever that is going to happened.” he said.
He added that he has received several support and political tutelage from Dr. Odili and expressed gratitude to have known him.
Speaking further, Wike said Odili’s benevolence made it possible for Ikwerre sons to emerge governors of the State.
Responding to the glowing commendation and gift, Dr Odili said he’s very grateful and overwhelmed by the gift. He also said governor Wike was the best performing council chairman in Rivers State when he was governor.
He further praised Wike for investing in human capacity development, infrastructure and building the best Law School campus in Port Harcourt.

Family sue boyfriend after their teen daughter injected his HIV-positive blood into her body to prove her love
The family of a teenage girl, who injected her boyfriend’s HIV-positive blood into her body to prove her love for him, has sued her boyfriend.
The 15-year-old girl from Assam in northeast India made headlines news over the rash decision. It’s reported that the pair met through Facebook and had been together for around three and a half years before she injected herself.
They both had tried to run away together on multiple occasions in the past but the girl’s parents had tracked them down to bring their daughter home each time, Kalinga TV reports.
In a development, the boyfriend has been detained by the police while the girl is understood to be under the watch of doctors. The girl is reported to have been aware of the risk she was taking when she used the syringe to inject herself, although there is no information yet on whether or not her boyfriend was aware of what her intentions were.
The girl’s family members are also reported to have taken legal action against the boyfriend after finding out about the injection.

“I will hate myself for a long time” – Tonto Dikeh laments after a woman’s son whom she failed to help died.
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has taken to social media to express regret after a mother whom she refused to help for the medical treatment of her ailing son lost the child.
The politician revealed the mother had sent her an Instagram DM a while ago asking for financial help for the treatment of her child who was sick, but she ignored the message because of her past experiences with people.
According to the mother of one, she refused to help the troubled mother because she thought it was a scam, as she had recently fallen victim to a scammer who used the same pity story to get almost half a million naira from her.
Sadly, she got news that the woman’s son had died, apparently due to lack of medical care, and she now regrets not helping the woman.
“I will hate myself for a very long time… See the amount of damage one person’s lies and choices have caused… My heart goes out to everyone going thru one thing or the other!!
“I will beat myself up for this for as long as I stop feeling guilt but the person who made me ignore that message I pray you suffer more than the grieving mothers.
“Few weeks ago, I helped out a random fan with almost half a million naira (370k) cause they had mad challenges and she showed a baby and all. One week later I just wanted to check on them. BOOM! The account had been deleted. I took it with good faith.

Andrea Ekeng Inyang, the special assistant on strategic communication to Cross River Governor, Ben Ayade, has opined that a serious man will not date a lady for more than one year before marrying her.
Inyang made this assertion while advising single ladies not to scare off real suitors while claiming to be in a relationship with a man who has no intention of settling down with them.

Four students drown in Lagos beach while celebrating their WAEC results
In a tragic turn of events, four students of the Kuramo Senior College in Lagos have drowned in the Elegushi beach while celebrating their WAEC results.
It was gathered that eight students went to their school to collect their recently released West African Examination Council (WAEC) results on Tuesday, August 16.
Out of excitement, they decided to go to the beach to celebrate and have fun along with one of their other friends.
All nine students entered the beach but sadly, only five of them made it out alive. Four of them, two males and two females, drowned and their bodies are yet to be recovered.
Following the horrific incident, three of the students fled the scene out of fear, while two others aged 14 and 16 waited till men of the Nigerian Police Force arrived. They also provided the names of the drowned students.
The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirming the incident, said the families of some of the victims have been contacted.
The 32-year-old lady reportedly travelled from her house in another state to visit Lamidi in Lagos on Saturday, after they met online and began a romantic relationship.
While they were lodged in the motel, things took a drastic turn when Lamidi suddenly slumped in the toilet, prompting the lady to call for help on Sunday morning.
When some employees of the motel rushed into the room, they found Lamidi lying motionless on the ground.

Driver flees after Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s convoy stops him for driving against traffic (video)
There was mild drama involving a bus driver and Lagos State governor, Sanwo-OLu’s convoy along the road leading to Lagos Island on Tuesday, August 16, when the bus driver abandoned his vehicle and fled off after he was stopped by security men attached to the governor’s convoy.
The bus driver was driving against traffic when he ran into the convoy of the governor. But for fear of being arrested, he dashed away and abandoned his vehicle on the road.

In other news, a 55-year-old man, Abdulwaheed Lamidi died after meeting a lady he met online at City International Motel, Council Bus-Stop in Ikotun, Lagos state.
The 32-year-old lady reportedly travelled from her house in another state to visit Lamidi in Lagos on Saturday, after they met online and began a romantic relationship.
While they were lodged in the motel, things took a drastic turn when Lamidi suddenly slumped in the toilet, prompting the lady to call for help on Sunday morning.
When some employees of the motel rushed into the room, they found Lamidi lying motionless on the ground.
God is not in heaven – Singer Harrysong
Popular Nigerian Singer, Harrysong has opined that God is not in heaven.
In a post shared on his Instastories this morning, Harrysong disagreed with the belief as he asked people not to just read but “study, think and research.’
He also used a verse from the book of Genesis to give a seemingly copious reason he thinks God is not in heaven.

Nurse lands herself in trouble after making a video, threatening to kill all her patients (video)
A young Nurse has gotten more than she bargained for as what she had intended to be “Cruise” has landed her into trouble.
Ghana’s Nursing and Midwifery Council looking to identify a nurse who in a now-viral Tik Tok video, threatened to kill patients that plan to visit the hospital where she works.
In the video, the young girl can be heard saying she did not want to be a nurse adding that she was forced by her parents to enter nursing school and she is issuing a warning to anybody that visits her hospital for healthcare to stay away otherwise they would die.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council, in their reaction, disowned the young nurse, distanced itself from the video, warned nurses, midwives, students, and social media users not to engage in “unprofessional and unauthorised actions” while wearing the uniform.
A statement released by the council reads in part;
Investigations have commenced earnestly to identify the said student and apply the necessary sanctions as eshrined in the Code of Conduct for Nurse and Midwives.
The Statement made by the alleged student nurse is a clear demonstration of ignorance about the Nursing and Midwifery professions and therefore the public should treat it with the contempt it deserves.

Nollywood actor, Moses Armstrong, has taken to his social media page to strongly deny the rape charges recently leveled against him.
The Actor was arrested last month for allegedly raping a minor he adopted. He was charged with rape, intimidation, conspiracy and supplying of drugs or instruments to procure abortion.
He was sent to prison, but on the 11th of August, a High court in the state granted him bail.
In a post shared on his Facebook page yesterday August 16, Moses Armstrong stated that he isn’t a rapist but he is happy he went to prison and his experience in prison was awesome as God went with him
He wrote;

American Billionaire Elon Musk has got himself trending on popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, after he tweeted that he wants to buy English football club, Manchester United.
Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United, or simply United, is a professional football club based in the Old Trafford area of Greater Manchester, England.
The club has won major football honors but they are currently having a setback with the new season after losing their first two games to Brighton and Brentford.
Musk, who is worth around 265.7 billion USD was in the midst of a political ideology discussion, when he suddenly posted that he is buying the club who are currently bottom of the Premier League.
He wrote, “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome”.
His tweet quickly garnered attention from fans who really wanted it to happen but they were later left disappointed when he added that he was only joking.

A lady’s night was definitely made after she was noticed from the crowd and acknowledged by Nigerian superstar singer, Burna Boy, during a concert.
A video making the rounds online captures an overzealous female fan screaming at the top of her lungs as her favorite performs on stage at his concert in the United States.
Luckily, she got the singer’s attention with her screams. He looked in her direction and blew her a kiss from the stage amid his performance to acknowledge her.
Elated by the gesture, she screamed even louder in excitement.

The self-styled African Giant graced the stage at the just-concluded Kadetten 2022 Festival in Norway and gave a stellar performance as usual to the trill of the audience.
However, a European fan couldn’t contain his emotions as the singer was performing one of his hit songs “Gbona” and began crying like a little baby.

A Nigerian lady, identified as Peter Precious, has gotten people worried on Facebook after she went online to share suicide notes and video.
Precious, who is an Akwa Ibom-based skincare therapist, took to Facebook on Tuesday, August 16, to share a cryptic note, saying this world is not for her and death is peaceful.
She wrote on her Facebook wall,
“Very very soon. The testimony you expected will be a tribute to me from the mouths of those who truly cared. I came to this world, I sojourned but this world is actually not my place. I have beautified myself with pain and glory in tears, but soon, I will only watch the world from a distance. I will only read from shadows…the tributes you will write to me. Death is peaceful, don’t be deceived.”
It was gathered that she also hinted that she is battling with depression in a post she shared on WhatsApp three days ago.
“Once I conquer this phase of depression, trust me, an alien is created.” she wrote.
The beautiful young lady also shared a video on her Facebook page, saying she doesn’t want to live anymore and asked for prayers so her soul will rest in peace.
