A lady who has gained notoriety for spending fake money in markets, has been arrested with N24,000 counterfeit N1,000 notes in Ogun State.

It is reported that the suspect identified as Bola Agbedimu, met her waterloo on February 14, 2022, after purchasing goods with a fake N1,000 note at Kila Market in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to the image maker of the Ogun State police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, her arrest was sequel to a report lodged at the Odeda Divisional Headquarters by the Chairperson of Egbalawa Crops/Fruits Association, that the 30-year-old lady was caught spending fake one thousand naira currency note in the market.

“Upon the report, the DPO, CSP Femi Olabode, detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was promptly arrested. On searching her bag, a sum of 24,000 fake currency note was recovered,” he said.

The police added that the suspect, during interrogation, confessed being an habitual counterfeit naira note dealer, and that her mode of operation was to mix counterfeit notes with genuine ones to purchase goods. According to the PPRO, a preliminary investigation conducted by the police revealed that, the suspect had been arrested on many occasions at different markets within Abeokuta, the state capital.

A Nigerian man identified as Emmanuel Ikechukwu Umenyiora, has counted his blessings as he shared his excitement after emerging the first Igbo language lecturer at the University of Oxford.

Emmanuel shared the wonderful news on his social media page after his induction which held on Thursday, February 17. He wrote;

”It is official that I am the first official Igbo Language lecturer at the number one university in the world, the University of Oxford.

Our induction happened today by Marion Sadoux, Head of Modern Language Programmes, University of Oxford Language Centre.

This became possible in account of the James Currey Society. This is the first time Igbo language will be taught at the university. History has been made. I am so happy and grateful for this opportunity. I promise to make the Igbo language and culture known to the world.”

Fresh OOU graduate goes missing after leaving Ago Iwoye to visit male friend in Sagamu

A 25-year-old lady, Omowunmi Akinwade, has been declared missing by her friends and family.

According to reports, the fresh graduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, left Ago Iwoye shortly after her convocation on Tuesday, February 1, to visit a male friend in Sagamu.

However, the male friend simply identified as Paul Eto said Omawunmi didn’t make it to his place, and the last time he spoke to her was when she called to tell him that she was close to Sagamu.

He said he told her the exact junction to stop at for him to come and pick her up, but his phone was silent when she called him six times after that.

According to him, all efforts to reach her afterwards proved abortive, so he went to report the matter to the police the next day when he didn’t see her and she wasn’t answering her calls.

Paul Eto also disclosed that he had contacted her family to inform them that their daughter might be missing.

A Nigerian man has taken to Twitter to lament being unfairly treated after a military officer forcefully cut his hair at a checkpoint in Kaduna.

The Twitter user identified as @its_freezle said he was traveling from Kaduna to Jos with two of his friends when they were stopped by military officers at Kurmi Idion. He noted that the officers asked them to remove their caps and on seeing his hairstyle, tagged him irresponsible.

He added that the military officer asked him to go to a nearby barbing salon to have his hair shaved before he could continue his journey.

He alleged that when he refused to leave the scene to a nearby barbing saloon, the officer ordered his colleague to use a scissor they had with them to cut it. He added that when he tried to resist them from cutting his hair, the officers corked their guns and threatened to shoot him.

Narrating the incident, he wrote in part,

“DO WE STILL HAVE RIGHTS IN NIGERIA?
I have always been a patriotic nigerian in speech and in action. But today I experienced the most embarrassing and humiliating thing in my life. I have heard this happen to people but it became real to me today. I, @pdshugar & @Kuturanki where coming to Jos from #kaduna, we’ve passed serval checking points but on arriving a check point at “KURMI IDON” a military man asked us all to come down, he told all my friends to take off their caps and I was the only one with much hair. so he insulted me and called me Irresponsible because I was not on low cut.

Comparing me with my friends. He went further to say I should go to a near by barbing saloon to cut my hair if not he won’t let us go, which I wasn’t ready to do. So he asked his other colleague to cut my hair with a scissors, I pulled back, immediately, the other military guy cocked his gun to shoot me, and the other attempted to hit me with the head of his rifle. so i stood and the guy put the scissors ✂️ into my hair.”

Nollywood actor, Gideon Okeke, has taken to social media to narrate how he was ‘fraud shamed’ by a fuel attendant.

Thespian, in a post shared on her Instagram page, said, due to the fuel scarcity in the country, fuel is being sold on the black market for N5,000 per liter.

Recounting his experience with a black market dealer, Okeke said the attendant insisted that he would only sell his fuel to “Yahoo boys” because they don’t bargain and will pay whatever price he tells them.

Okeke bemoaned the situation in the country and noted that Nigeria is in trouble. He went on to compare the “giant of Africa” to its neighboring country, Ghana.

Singer, Paul Okoye, of the popular Nigerian music duo, P-Square, suffered an injury shortly after a performance in Liberia.

The twin brothers, who recently reconciled after an age-old beef, were in Liberia for a show and gave their fans a thrilling performance. However, Paul, a.k.a. Rudeboy, revealed in an Instagram post that he was severely injured after the performance.

Two arrested with 30 kegs of fuel in Kwara

Two men identified as Yunus Yusuf, 32 and Ismail Olamilekan 33, have been arrested by Men of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for allegedly engaging in the black market business of the premium motor spirit (PMS).

According to the spokesman of the corps in the state, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the two suspects were arrested with more than 30 kegs of petrol which they allegedly bought from neighbouring state and planned to sell at high price to end-users in the Ilorin, state capital.

In his words ;

“As directed by the state commandant, Makinde Iskil Ayinla, the anti-vandal unit of the NSCDC in the state led by the unit commander, ACC Ayinde Yusuf, continued with their operational activities in order to check any action or inaction that can worsen the current fuel scarcity situation. They were able to intercept a taxi cab at Eyenkorin area, which was loaded with 30 kegs of PMS.”

Afolabi also said that the two suspects later confessed to be engaging in the black market business of the PMS, adding that they went to Ogbomoso to buy the products which they planned to be selling at exhorbitant price to the desperate end-users in the Ilorin metropolis.

He also said that the corps was prepared to make life difficult for all economic saboteurs whole said were trying to make life difficult for the people of the state, adding that the two suspects will be charged to court after the completion of the investigations.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has insisted that the N5,000 stipend being shared by the Buhari regime to some Nigerians goes a long way to help their lives.

While speaking to reporters at the State House, Abuja on Thursday, she said it is “elitist” to assume that the N5,000 monthly national cash transfer to vulnerable households is insignificant.

In her words ;

“If you look at the people that you are taking this intervention to, N5,000 means a lot to them because these are poor and vulnerable households and it changes their status,” said the minister, “but for you and me, N5,000 is not even enough for us to buy recharge card, that’s the difference. But for these poor people in the communities, you have seen, they were able to save out of that N5,000.

When people say N5000 does not save people, that is an elitist statement, honestly because we’ve had causes to go to the field, and we have seen these people that when you give them this N5,000, they cried and shed tears because they’ve never seen N5,000 it in their lives. So, it goes a long way, it changes their status and by that, it lifts them from one stage to another.”

Reno Omokri has kicked against abortion and he says it is a sin that is worse than murder.

In a post shared on his Instagram page this evening, Reno wrote;

”Abortion is a sin, according to Scripture. It is the taking of human life. Exodus 21:22-23 plainly describes an unborn foetus as a human life and that any man who causes a pregnant woman to lose her foetus is guilty of murder.

Ordinarily I would not want to comment on this, but I have been bombarded by people whose faiths are being undermined. The only time I ever publicly disagree with a pastor is when people’s faith are undermined.

Abortion is not compatible with Christ following. That is why I teach against premarital and extramarital sex. But if you have done it and get pregnant, don’t turn one weakness into two wickednesses!

Abortion is even worse than murder. Because most murderers murder someone who they feel has wronged them. While that is not exculpatory, we can see how that can be a human weakness. But why kill an unborn foetus that has not offended you or anyone?

Premarital and extramarital sex are sinful and wrong. However, if you want to have premarital sex, or even marital sex, without getting pregnant, using protection is better than abortion later. But that protection must not be for the purpose of avoiding your responsibility-Genesis 38:9-10.

Even rape should not lead to abortion. At worse, have the child and have him or her adopted. But abortion and Christ following are Parallel lines that will NEVER intersect!

Being a Christ follower is not easy. You must commit to adjusting your life to suit Scripture, even Scripture that you do not like (yes, there are Scripture I do not like). That is better than adjusting Scripture to suit your lifestyle.”
