The Nigerian Army has launched investigation into the alleged murder of Jennifer Ugadu, a 200-level student of Niger Delta University, Bayelsa, by her boyfriend who is said to be a soldier.
It was earlier reported that the corpse of the undergraduate was found in her room at an off-campus hostel of the institution.
Following her death, Jennifer’s friends took to social media to call for justice as they point accusing fingers at her soldier boyfriend popularly called Jay Matol. Read full story here.
In reaction to the report, the Nigerian Army, through its spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, has released a statement. They stated that they are taking the murder case seriously and will ensure that justice is served.
The statement reads,
“The Nigerian Army has been notified of a media publication, alleging that a jealous soldier killed his lover, one Miss Jennifer Ugadu, an undergraduate student, at the Niger Delta University, Ammasoma. In the report, it was alleged that the student was shot in her apartment by the suspect who is now at large.
While the army commiserates with the family of the deceased, it is crucial to unambiguously state that there is no place for such barbaric act in the army. The army would ensure justice is served. The army has taken the allegation seriously and a joint investigation has commenced, while the effort to profile and ascertain the true identity of the suspect is ongoing.”

20-year-old serial child killer, Masten Milimo Wanjala has confessed to murdering ten children and sucking his victims’ blood.
According to Kenyan media, Wanjala was arrested on Wednesday, July 14th following the discovery of two bodies dumped in Kabete, Nairobi, Kenyan capital.
The bodies found is said to be that of two of his victims identified as 12-year-old Junior Mutuku Musyoka and 13-year-old Charles Opindo.
The suspect who is now assisting the police to recover his victims’ bodies has been linked to several other disappearances in recent months.
The 20-year-old made front pages of a string of newspapers in the country on Thursday, July 15th after he confessed to ten killings and sucking the blood from at least one of his victims.
Police say they are trying to establish if Wanjala had accomplices or if he was working alone, adding that he led detectives to the site of several of the murders on Wednesday while officers took photos and videos as evidence.
It was gathered that many of the sites were thick bushes near maize plantations and he also dumped his victim’s bodies in open sewage pipes.

A snake and four cats were killed after they were discovered living in a woman’s car in Benin City, Edo state capital.
It was gathered that the snake dropped from the car; an SUV when she parked in front of a church after she dropped her kids in school.
She was said to have been driving her kids around with the car, unaware that that animals lived in there.
After the snake dropped from the car the woman and other people around the church searched the car and were shocked to see four cats lying down in a corner in the trunk.
The snake and cats were killed by locals who tagged the strange discovery as a “spiritual attack”.

The Chairman of Udala Football Club in Anambra State, Philip Udala, has been assassinated.
According to reports, the billionaire was murdered on Tuesday night, July 13, by some unknown gunmen who attacked his convoy in Eke-Agu community in Idemili North Local government area of Anambra state.
It was gathered that the gunmen initially attacked a police station in the area and were fleeing the scene when they ran into the Udala’s convoy in Abatete.
They reportedly opened fire on the convoy, killing everyone in the two vehicles before setting it ablaze, with the occupants still inside.
Udala, his security detail consisting of three policemen, and Godsent Eriobu, the manager of Udala FC, were killed in the attack.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Tochi Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing.

A Port Harcourt based clergyman, Pastor Tony Daniel of Jesus Alive Word Refiners International Church, has been accused of raping a 20-year-old woman.
The alleged victim reported the incident to an human rights advocacy group, Centre For Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign.
According to the lady (name withheld), the choir mistress and a female church member held her while Pastor Daniel violently defiled her.
She also revealed that the incident occurred when the clergyman invited her over to his house to settle an issue she was having with his wife.
Meanwhile, the pastor is currently under investigation by the Rivers State Police Command, following a petition submitted by the human rights group.
A member of the group, Barrister Festus Bonwin, said they are also requesting for adequate police protection for the alleged victim.

A video of suspected Nigerian drug baron, Tony Chidi Onwurolu spraying money in church has gone viral on social media after he was declared wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for importing a consignment of 26.15 kilogrammes of heroin worth over N6.5 billion.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Sunday July 11, that the seizure was made at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc (SAHCO) shed of the Murray’s Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
He said it was, however, detained for screening following reasonable suspicion of the content of the consignment. The suspected drug baron is nowhere to be found after being declared wanted.

A lady, simply identified as Keisha, has revealed that her chances of getting pregnant is 2% after she was physically assaulted by her ex-boyfriend.
Keisha with Twitter handle @prettybaddie27 shared her heart wrenching story on the microblogging platform. According to her, she was beaten to pulp by her ex-boyfriend when she was 4-5 months pregnant because she refused to get an abortion.

The Senate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has shut down the hostels and directed all students to vacate the premises immediately.
The news was announced on Wednesday, July 14, after cases of the novel Coronavirus increased within the University.
On Tuesday, the Vice Chancellor summoned an emergency meeting of the school’s senate to address the increases cases of students with symptoms of COVID-19 infection.
However, the school authorities didn’t disclose if the variant is the same as the Delta variant which is said to be more deadly.
Meanwhile, the University has approved the commencement of online classes from July 26, 2021.

“To check the spread of Covid-19 on campus, the university senate has directed that all students vacate the halls of residence latest by 12.00 noon on Thursday 15 July 2021.
“No access will be granted to any student after 12.00 noon on 15 July.
“The hostels will be locked indefinitely therefore students are advised to move all their personal effects at once. Lectures for the rest of the semester will be delivered virtually with effect from 26th July 2021. DSA.”
The Lagos state police command has revealed more suspects have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of Super TV CEO, Michael USifo Ataga.
The state commissioner police, Hakeem Odumosu made this known during a briefing and parade of over 1,000 suspects at the Command headquarters in Ikeja on Wednesday, July 14th.
According to Odumosu the police has established a case of conspiracy in the murder of the billionaire, adding that he was drugged before he was killed.
Speaking further he noted that the 21-year-old UNILAG student, Chidinma Ojokwu is still a suspect, although he did not give details on the number of suspects arrested and their connection to the murder as he noted that divulging details of the other suspects might compromise the case.
“We have established a case of conspiracy in the murder and we have arrested more suspects.” He said.
Popular Nigerian singer, 2baba’s wife, Annie Idibia has taken to social media to mourn the demise of her husband’s close friend, Sound Sultan.
The veteran Nigerian singer died on Sunday, July 11th after battle with cancer. The Idibia’s who are close friends of the deceased shocked by the news took a break from social media.
However, moments after her husband 2baba finally penned an emotional tribute to his late friend, Annie also took to her official Instagram page to mourn Sound Sultan.
According to her, she hasn’t been able to sleep since the news of his death.

A relative of slain 300-level UNILORIN student, Omowumi Olajide revealed she was stripped naked and her hands tied by her assailants before she was killed.
Omowumi’s cousin, Mrs Stowe Opeyemi who stated this while testifying in court on Tuesday, July 13, recalled how the victim’s naked corpse was found in the sitting room at her sister’s residence in the Tanke area of Ilorin.
Opeyemi told the court that the deceased was living with one Dr Dupe Shittu, however, On the day of the incident Shittu became suspicious when Omowumi’s phone number was not reachable which was unusual.
PUNCH quoted Opeyemi saying,
“Dr Shittu called me on that day that Omowumi’s phone number was not reachable. There and then, two of Dr Shittu’s kids and I went to their house. When we got there, we tried to open the sitting room; it seemed to have been locked from inside. Then we went back to our mother’s house, which is on the same street. From there, Dr Shittu with her kids and I came back with a carpenter, who broke the door open.
“When the door was opened, we saw the lifeless body of Wumi (Olajide) on the floor with her face up and her two legs widely opened. Her neck was tied with a towel soaked in blood. Her pants were also by her side. A wrapper was tied round her neck. We also found a knife on one of the chairs in the sitting room. There was equally a bloodstained pillow beside her body.
“A sheet of paper with an inscription of ‘No forgiveness from University of Ilorin’ was placed on her stomach too, while her school identity card was also beside her. Her two hands were tied behind her back. Thereafter, we all rushed out of the sitting room. Then, Dr Shittu went to report the incident at the police station in the same Tanke area.”
The case has been adjourned till Monday, July 19, 2021, for continuation of hearing.
There was mild drama at the popular Abia Shopping mall on Tuesday, July 13th as soldiers allegedly locked up shoppers over missing money.
It was gathered that some men who claimed to be soldiers stopped people from entering or exiting the shopping mall after they claimed their money had been stolen.
According to eye witnesses, the alleged soldiers parked their RAV 4 vehicle at the parking lot of the outlet in Umuahia and went inside the mall to shop.
On getting out of the store they raised alarm claiming their vehicle had been vandalized and money stolen from their car.
The men reportedly called for reinforcement and their colleagues immediately stormed the scene in a Toyota Hilux vehicle.
Six soldiers arrived in the Hilux and they locked up customers, preventing entry and exit from the mall between 4:40pm and 6:30pm on Tuesday evening.
The soldiers insisted on having access to the CCTV footage to watch how the money, about 200,000 Naira disappeared from their car.
It was learnt that they later freed the customers and left the area.
A Nigerian lady has shared her ordeal at the hands of kidnappers.
According to the lady, she boarded a bus at the park in Enugu to Rivers State but the next thing she could remember was that she woke up in a bungalow, tied to a chair.
She said she was repeatedly raped and beaten while two others who could not meet the demands of their captors were brutally murdered.

He asked the first person his name and who to call,
The guy’s name was Philip, Philip said he doesn’t have anyone to call that he is just a normal business man trying to make needs, they skipped him and said he wasn’t ready to cooperate yet. Long story short now reached my turn it’s only my sister I can call which they did and They told my sister if she likes, she should go and tell the police or army that there’s nothing they can do (that was when I knew my own has finished), they told my sister that she’ll pay N3,000,000 or she won’t see me again, my father is not too strong so my sister Had to keep everything away from my father. Fast forward to Philip and others, 2 people were killed right in front of me (Philip and One girl) because they couldn’t meet up with their demands and the other 3 people were released with 2M each. The reason why they didn’t kill me Was because my sister was picking up calls even after a week and cooperating with them, my sister had to sell some things and borrow up and down to pay 2M and on top of that right from 26th every night I eat beating, and get raped by two of them
When my sister Paid the money I was dropped off at 4corners near agbani at night, I am currently in a hospital receiving treatment which, I am so traumatized, I need help. I can’t take Philip & that girl they killed off my head. They killed and cut them into pieces.
