An ex-United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell (L) and a former Director with Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, Prof. Robert Rotberg (R), have said it’s time for the United States to acknowledge that Nigeria is a failed state.
Campbell and Rotberg stated this is in light of the many security threats plaguing the country.
This was disclosed in an article titled, “The Giant of Africa is Failing” which was published in the May/June edition of Foreign Affairs magazine.
Both men stated that every part of Nigeria now faces insecurity which threatens the nation’s corporate existence.
The article read in part,
“Nigeria’s worldwide companions, particularly the USA, should acknowledge that Nigeria is now a failed state. In recognition of that truth, they need to deepen their engagement with the nation and search to carry the present administration accountable for its failures, while additionally working with it to supply safety and proper financial system.”
Campbell and Rotberg noted that the security agents have been unable to curb crime due to the sophisticated weapons that the criminals in the country have known their possession.
They also spoke about the Buhari Administration, stating that the country had moved from being a weak one to a failed one.
“Underneath the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, a number of overlapping safety crises has remodelled Nigeria from a weak state right into a failed one. Buhari’s authorities has struggled to quell numerous Jihadi insurgencies, together with the one waged by the militant group Boko Haram,” the article read.
They also alleged that the Federal Government seemed to have given up in some areas and non-state actors had taken over while quasi-police organisations and militias controlled by state governments have become more common.
The authors stated that due to kidnappings and other crimes, several schools had been forced to shut down.
The article reads,
“Regional quasi-police forces and militias—generally related to state governments however not often formally sanctioned—train de facto authority in some areas. However in lots of others, the federal authorities have successfully ceded management to militants and criminals.”
Campbell and Rotberg said happenings in Nigeria also affect other areas of Africa. The article adds that Nigeria depends too much on oil and is regularly faced with economic disasters.
They wrote,
“However the Nigerian state has long failed to supply its residents with social companies and Nigerian politics is basically an elite sport disassociated from governance.
“The Federal Government doesn’t or cannot tax the true wealth of the nation, stays too depending on income from oil and gasoline, and lurches from one fiscal disaster to a different. Corruption is structural, too, casting almost everybody as each perpetrator and sufferer.”
The authors recommended that through conferences, technical recommendations, and different instruments of “comfortable diplomacy,” the US ought to help civil society and Nigerian non-governmental organisations in their efforts to strengthen the nation’s democracy.

Same way daft people will make an issue out of this innocent and honest reply.
Now, for you personally, What concerns this question with my question? 1a) Why did you put a “not a question ” disclaimer but you still went on to ask a question. 1b) Have you heard about minding my business an in extreme cases, the business that minds me ? 2) Do you understand that you like problems?

The teenage girl who recently became a sensation after she fought off a bear to save her dogs has revealed what pushed her to make the daring move.

“Honestly, there was nothing really going through my mind, except that I had to protect my dogs,” she told CNN.
According to her, when she saw her smallest dog Valentine literally leave the ground in the bear’s paw she knew “I had to do what I had to do.”

“I just break down every time I see (it),” she said. “It’s just horrifying to watch,” she said.
The Federal Government has accused American Social networking company, Twitter for alleged double standards on issues concerning Nigeria’s domestic issues.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed while reacting to the decision of Twitter to delete President Buhari’s tweet where he made reference to the 1966 Civil war, said Twitter had not been fair to Nigeria.
According to him, Twitter’s role on issues concerning Nigeria is suspicious and Nigeria would not be fooled. Speaking further, he alleged that the social media giant also displayed the same bias during the #ENDSARS protest.
Speaking to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, he said,
“Twitter may have its own rules, they are not the universal rules. If Mr President, anywhere in the world, feels very bad and concern about a situation, he is free to express such views.
“Now, we should stop comparing apples with oranges. If an organisation is proscribed, it is different from any other which is not proscribed.
Two, any organisation that gives directives to its members, to attack police stations, to kill policemen, to attack correctional centres, to kill warders, and you are now saying that Mr. President does not have the right to express his dismay and anger about that? We are the ones guilty of double standards.
I don’t see anywhere in the world where an organisation, a person will stay somewhere outside Nigeria, and will direct his members to attack the symbols of authority, the police, the military, especially when that organisation has been proscribed. By whatever name, you can’t justify giving orders to kill policemen or to kill anybody you do not agree with.”

“I am glad to be back among you. After the 2019 election, I should have returned to say thank you, but I didn’t want to come until I fulfill what I promised you, which is the sole ownership of LAUTECH by Oyo State.
“I am still coming back to spend the night here and we will really celebrate then. But I can leave you with a parting gift for today. Let me tell you, LAUTECH fee is still the lowest in the Southwest.
“Having said that, I will reduce your school fees across board, whether indigenes or non-indigenes, even for new students. There will be a reduction of 25 per cent across the board.”

Three little children, Zipporah, Isaiah and their baby brother are the only survivors in a family of eight after armed bandits allegedly killed their parents and three olders siblings in Gonan Rogo, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Their rather sad story was shared by Alheri Magaji, of the Resilient Aid and Dialogue Initiative (RADi), an NGO which provides care and relief to internally displaced people of Southern Kaduna.
According to Ms Magaji, the bandits also shot their baby brother but he miraculously survived while Zipporah and Isaiah sustained machete wounds in the attack which occurred last year.
Magaji earlier disclosed that they have enrolled the two siblings in a school all thanks to donations from well meaning Nigerians.
“Today is one our happiest days at RADI. We dropped Isaiah & Zipporah off at Boarding School! Both parents and 3 older siblings were killed during an attack on their village of Gonan Rogo. If you remember the newborn baby shot 3 times, he’s their baby brother. From a family of 8, only 3 of them survived. Both of them were cut up pretty badly, and left for dead. They survived!” she shared.
“So we wanted to change their story. Can’t even say everything that has transpired in the last few months…it will be loooong! But we took a chance and we are here. This school would’ve cost us about N1.4Million a year, but the School heard their story and cancelled tuition fees on humanitarian grounds! Saving us almost N1 Million Naira. Then a donor pledged to pay their fees for 5 years, starting now.
“Isn’t God amazing?! God bless all those who help us do all we do. We can’t do anything without your prayers, your donations, your shares. Today we paid all other fees and bought what they need to be in school. Today…We dropped Zipporah & Isaiah off at boarding school.” she added.
On Children’s Day, May 27, 2021, Magaji visited the kids at school and confirmed that they are doing well, adding that Zipporah now smiles more since the brutal murder of her parents and siblings.
“We met Zipporah and Isaiah at Barau Dikko, being treated for cutlass wounds, hands nearly cut off. This is after the horror of seeing both parents and 3 older siblings killed and their baby brother shot several times. Well…their story is changing, thanks to our amazing RADi donor. Today was visiting/children’s day at their school and we went visiting. Since we met Zipporah, we have never seen her smile like today. They are both doing well and enjoying boarding school”

Popular Instagram Slay Queen, Teju Pretty has been confronted by a businesswoman she was allegedly owing N1.055m for over a year.
Teju was allegedly owing the businesswoman and refused to pay so she decided to apply pressure on the case. The businesswoman stormed Teju’s home with some security operatives on Monday, June 1.
To further embarrass the popular slay mama, the woman went on Instagram live so her followers could also witness the confrontation.
It was alleged that Teju only had N48k in her bank account at that moment, so she had to call a friend of hers for help.
In the viral IG Live video, she could be seen trying to call someone on her phone but the person didn’t pick up the call.
Teju Pretty had a similar issue with an Instagram vendor in June 2020 after she slayed with a N45k cloth she bought on credit. She has also been linked with other controversial issues in the last few years.
Nigerian social media was thrown into a frenzy recently when some tweets by head of states, President Muhammadu Buhari where he stated he’ll pay people who are trying to ruin the works of his administration in their own coin, was interpreted as him planning to recreate scenes from the Nigerian civil war.
One of the tweets by the President reads,
Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.
While some netizens believe the President was only expressing his displeasure with the criminal activities and security breaches that’s been happening in the country lately and his plan to dissolve it, others are convinced that the head of states has an agenda against “Igbo” people and his recent statement is proof of that.
There were however speculations as to whether or not it was the president who made the controversial tweets but a video that’s been shared online shows the president saying the exact same words in the tweets.
Nigerian singer, Waje comes through with the music video of her single “Naked”. The video was shot and directed by Pine P and Mood Vijuals.
This track is off her latest EP titled “Heart Season” which she released a month ago. It’s a 5-track EP that went all emotional on its singles.
But this one is quite deeper in its interpretation as “Naked” is centered on the theme of domestic violence, hurt, and all the trauma that comes attached with it on the victims.
Popular Nigerian writer, Ngozi Chimamanda Adichie, has reflected on the “western wedding traditions” and she feels like the mother of the bride is always relegated or sidelined during the wedding.
According to Ngozi, the father is made to give a speech, walk the bride down the aisle and also have the first dance with her. Often times, the mother of the bride does not partake in this heartwarming activities and it might not be a fair practice.
Her post reads ;
I have always felt that western wedding traditions sideline the mother of the bride — the father walks the bride down the aisle, the father has the first dance with the bride, often the father gives a speech while the mother doesn’t.
Our wedding, many years ago, was small and lovely, just as we wanted it. I asked family and friends not to post any photos publicly. I wanted privacy. But my need for privacy is now superceded by my desire to publicly honour the rare and wonderful woman I called my mother. And I hope this perhaps inspires any young women (and men) out there who are questioning any kind of convention.
Before the wedding, I decided that both my parents would walk me down the aisle. And I decided that my first dance would be with my mother. My father, who I often teasingly called DOS for “Defender of Spouse,” was very supportive. He wasn’t much of a dancer – I inherited his unrhythmic genes – but my mother was. And my mother’s joy on that day was a gorgeous glowing thing.
Convention is something made up by somebody and then repeated by others. If convention feels wrong for you, if your skin bristles and your spirit stalls at the thought of doing something “the way it is done,” then stop and act.
We can make changes. We can try and craft small slices of the life we want.
We can unmake convention to make things more just, more complete, more beautiful.
Not everyone will be happy with you, because it is human nature to try and conserve things as they are, but your spirit will feel full, and there is nothing more meaningful than knowing you have been true to yourself.

The lady who resides at Mosogar, Ethiope West LGA of Delta State and works in a popular hotel in the community, reportedly brought a man home on Saturday night, when she was last seen by her neighours.
According to a neighour of the deceased who pleaded anonymity, the man left later that night and Blessing was reported missing since then, until she was found dead in her room on Tuesday with her vital parts missing.

Tanzanian Member of Parliament (MP), Condester Sichwale, was thrown out of the parliament by the Speaker of the House for wearing trousers.
Sichwale had showed up at the parliament wearing a yellow blouse and black trousers on Tuesday, June 1.
However, a male colleague complained about her mode of dressing, saying that parliament is a mirror of society hence they have to be good examples, Global Publishers report.
In a video shared by a Tanzanian journalist, Hussein Amar said,
“Parliament is a mirror of society and Tanzania, and some of our sisters are wearing strange clothes and are legislators. What are they showing to the society?”
When the Speaker asked who he was referring to, Amar reportedly pointed at Sichwale. The Speaker then asked her to leave the parliament and return only after she had changed her outfit.
Photos making rounds on social media shows the moment she was ushered out of the room.
She later changed to a navy blue skirt and returned to the parliament.
