Idrissa Gueye boycotts

Senegalese footballer and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, Idrissa Gueye, reportedly boycotted a match because he didn’t want to wear their customized LGBT Rainbow jersey.

PSG played against Montpellier on Saturday, May 14, in their Ligue 1 game and wore a special version of their white away kit.

Instead of the usual blue colours, the numbers on the back of the jersey was rainbow colored to show support for the forthcoming International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, on Tuesday, May 17.

Gueye, a former Everton player, was absent from the match and when his manager, Mauricio Pochettino, was asked the reason for his absence, he said it was for personal reasons, but he’s not injured.

“Idrissa made the trip to Montpellier, but for personal reasons he had to leave the match sheet. But he was not injured,” Mauricio said after PSG won 4-0.

However, in a new development, it’s alleged that the 32-year-old footballer missed the match because he didn’t want to wear the rainbow jersey, RMC Sport reports.

Gueye is a devout Muslim and regularly shares religious posts on his official social media pages. His religion condemns homosexuality, and in some Islamic countries, homosexuality is punishable by death.

It was gathered that he also missed the equivalent commemorative match last season due to gastroenteritis.
