A 15-year-old schoolgirl has been charged with concealment of birth, infanticide and manslaughter after giving birth to a child secretly and allowing the child to die.
The Sun reports that “the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is accused of failing to provide the baby with care and medical attention following the birth, leading to the new born’s death.”
Speaking at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today, Judge Mark Hadfield told the youngster: “This is clearly distressing for you appearing in court then having to listen to the legal argument.”
The incident was said to have happened in south Manchester in the early hours of February 11 and since then the detectives have been investigating the matter trying to decide what they would charge the girl with but today she has been charged.
She was granted unconditional bail until her next court appearance as the case was moved to Manchester Crown Court on December 23.
