A lady has stirred various reactions after she asked if people would still seek luxury if they were the only ones who could see it.
The lady known as @Rena on Tiktok took to her page to share that she had always felt like people build their lives based off how people see and validate them. This for her has raised existential questions on affordance: she asked netizens if they would still want luxury, if they would still want to buy the expensive bags, the cars and do the luxurious things, if they knew that no one else but they could see it?
The response varied across the comment section. Some said that the essence of acquiring a luxury item is so people would see it, and if no one could then there was no need getting them. Others said that if they were the last and only persons on earth they would still want luxury because while they suffered no one saw them.
A most tricking reaction were the ones who claimed that luxury for them was comfort: it is being able to afford what they needed and want, being able to help and uplift their families. A minority said luxury is being able to travel around the world to experience the beauty of it.
According to the lady, this has opened her eyes to the fact that people view life differently; that what might be your destination might just be another persons starting point. What would matter to you, can possible mean less to another person.
