Man arraigned

Abdullahi Salisu, 27, who allegedly assaulted Bintu Adams, a 100 year old woman was arraigned at the Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The prosecution counsel, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi alleged that the defendant perpetrated this crime on Sunday, August 16 around 3.45pm at Sabo, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi told the court that the defendant and others, who are still at large, attacked Bintu Adams and inflicted injuries on her forehead.

He claimed that the defendant also attacked a 20 year old housewife, one Mrs Usman Adamu.

The offence, he said, violated the provisions of sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2020.

The defendant was charged with three counts of conspiracy, assault and causing hurt, however he pleaded not guilty.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Leke Dada, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most Liberal terms.

Magistrate A. A. Ayeni granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like amount.

Ayeni ordered that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and the addresses must be verified by the prosecutor.

He adjourned the hearing until Sept 24.

In related news, a middle-aged man, David Kigoma Onguyi was arraigned in court after verbally abusing a female trader at Maasai Market in Kenya.

The porter-cum-menial worker was charged with creating disturbance in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, after insulting the woman identified simply as Nyaboke at the market where she runs a Maasai curio shop on January 5, 2020.

The heated exchange ensued after the suspect who took a customer to Nyaboke’s shop on December 19 where she bought goods worth Ksh500, refused giving her the money but promised to settle the debt “later in the day”.

All attempts for Onguyi to give Nyaboke the money was futile, leading to claims of the trader’s private part stinking at the market where other traders and customers watched in disbelief. Continue reading here
