woman-loses-custody-of-kids

A U.S-based Nigerian victim of domestic violence has lost custody of her children after her own daughter reported her to the police for hitting her.

The woman shared her story via Humans of New York. Read below…

“I was pregnant the first time he hit me. I found another woman in his house. And when I asked who she was, he got violent. He told me: ‘You are not my mother. You have no right to ask me about this.’ Then he hit me. And there was nothing I could do. That sort of behavior is accepted in Nigeria. Nobody is going to call it ‘domestic violence.’ If you tell the police, they will tell you to listen to your husband. But things are different in America. So I left my husband six months after we arrived. I entered a domestic violence shelter. I became a single mother. And I was doing fine. I was working as a security guard and my children were not suffering. But then one day my daughter called the police and told them that I hit her. But that is my right. A mother has the right to discipline her children. They were disobeying me. But the government took my children away and now they won’t give them back. They are oppressing me with their power.”

  1. See rubbish, Dat is not a gud life.A life in which u wouldn’t be able to control ur own children.Hmmmm, kudos to our own mothers,,, if at all dey do a lot of tinz to correct us,,it worked for us and we gain it one way or d oda.Thumb up for#Africanmums

  2. This woman is finished! My country is even worse. You are made public and dealt with president’s office. You better run when you see an angry mob of women. It’s tough I tell you.

  3. These countries got every right to protect each child cos everyone gets special treatment when u give birth there. As anyone asked why she gave birth to the child there and kept her there. She should have return her home to stay with granny if she wanted to teach her some lesson about life. If you lived in countries like this u will understand why its against the law to smack a child. They value kids alot in this advanced countries more than we do here.

    • Well why should we,so called moral training parents give birth in such an environment? Stay in your country where values are being taught from childhood and leave those immoral countries na. We can argue from now till eternity but they still maintain their rule, don’t smack a child.some parents beat a child to coma for what reason? What must their offences be to beat them.I was never in my life smacked by my parents but still I was taught moral standards from everyone around me when I was a kid. My dad will say any parent that beats his or her child is a coward.simple said plss

  5. I pity the little girl…she thinks another woman will train her better. Am sure this isn’t in naija. So long as the woman isn’t being abusive to the child, then she did the right thing. I only pity the girl becos she may end up useless
