Ike who has been Mercy’s boyfriend since they met in the Big Brother house last year, stepped out and presented her with a little box that looked like it contained an engagement ring. Although, he did not go down on one knee as expected but instead told her to open the box later.
Mercy’s elaborate birthday party was attended by top celebrities, and majority of the Big Brother Naija season 5 housemates graced the occasion.
Nigerian singing sensation, Tiwa Savage was one of the many celebrity guests who graced Mercy Eke’s birthday party – a gesture which surprised the attendees and both their fans.
Mercy turned 27 on the 29th of September, 2020 and held a plush party where she invited friends, family and acquaintances — among those who also graced the occasion, were the immediate past BBNaija season 5 housemates.

In other news, DJ Cuppy recently dispelled the notions that her billionaire dad, Femi Otedola opened doors for her success.
According to her, the belief that her Father’s connection made her popular is not in its entirety true. The “Orignal Copy” crooner said that even with her Father’s connection she still had to work hard on her own part to make it work out.
She further revealed that she had lost opportunities simply because she was not prepared or didn’t make proper use of them.

A former staff of First Bank PLC has been sentenced to 98 years in prison for committing N49,320,652.32 fraud against her employers and an additional $368,203.00 belonging to the bank in Oyo state.
The woman, identified as Oreoluwa Adesakin was arraigned at the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 14-count charges. The charges bordered on forgery, stealing, forgery and fradulent accounting.
One of the charges reads,
“That you Oreoluwa Adesakin sometime between the months of May 2013 and November 2013, at Ibadan within the Ibadan Judicial Division, whilst being a staff of First Bank PLC stole the sum of N25,974,116.13 from First Bank PLC MoneyGram Payment Naira Account, the property of First bank PLC.”
She pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
EFCC counsel, Usman Murtala, presented all the vital documents and witnesses before the court as evidence against the convict.
The presiding judge noted that the EFCC had a lot of undisputable evidence against the convict and pronounced Adesakin guilty of all the charges.
She was sentenced to seven years in prison for each of the 14 charges without the option of bail, which will run concurrently. Thus, making it 98 years in prison.
Apart from the jail term, the convict is also to restitute all the money she stole to First Bank, through the EFCC.
According to the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, Adesakin was initailly arraigned on April 4, 2014, after conducting investigations based on a petition from First Bank on December 18, 2013.
In the petition, First Bank alleged that Adesakin, as its Money Transfer Operator, who was saddled with the responsibility of effecting payments through Western Union Money Transfer and Money Gram platforms, fraudulently manipulated accounting and withdrew N49,320,652.32 and another $368,203.00 for her personal use.
It was also discovered that Adesakin used part of the stolen money to acquire landed properties in different parts of Oyo State.
Popular Nollwood Actress Lilian Afegbai, is bereaved as she has lost her father, Mr. Adams Afegbai on Tuesday September 29.
Mr. Afegbai passed on few weeks after he suffered severe burns at his farm in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State earlier this month. The 80-year-old was trying to burn some waste when the fire caught his clothes and spread over his body.

According to Ada, her friend called her to tell her that she had a heart disease and had only some months to live; adding that she needed 3 million Naira for her treatment.
Ada noted that she gave the said friend a million naira from the proposed medical bill as she couldn’t afford three million at the time.
Ada said she later discovered her friend had swindled her of the sum of money when she received a call from her friend’s mother and asked the older woman about her daughter’s heart disease.
The mother immediately rejected it adding that her daughter is not suffering from any disease.

A Nigerian woman identified as Ogochukwu Anichukwu has been called out alongside her husband for allegedly pouring hot water on her eight year old house help for licking milk.
It was gathered that Ogochukwu and her husband Emmanuel Anichukwu are in the habit of maltreating the young girl.
According to Jane Iyke who shared the story on Facebook the couple have been reported to the human right legal initiative in Ekwulobia, Anambra State.
Jane wrote,
“This case is before Human right legal initiative Ekwulobia Anambra State already but if you know this girl Mma from Awgu Enugu State,kindly advise the family to come and pick their child before they bring her back in corpse.
“This child is living with Mrs Ogochukwu Anichukwu from Ndikelionwu and Mr. Emmanuel Anichukwu from Enugu State as a househelp in Nanka Anambra state.
“This girl’s offense was that she licked the milk meant for her baby, she poured hot water on her and locked her inside so that neighbors won’t see her in that state.

“The neighbor that reported to the Human rights legal aid according to them entered their house unexpectedly and caught Mma trying to run inside to avoid been seen as she was vehemently warned not to allow anyone see her. The girl is now in the hospital for proper medical care.”, she added.
Nigerian cinematographer, KC Obiajulu has called out movie producers for discriminating between crew members and actors.
He shared a meme showing the difference between the breakfast given to actors on set and that of crew members. According to him, the meme triggered him so he decided to point out the obvious mistreatment that occurs at movie sets.
Taking to Twitter, he highlighted that crew members should be offered decent meals, as they lift the heavy gears on set. Adding that they should also learn to speak with the people behind the scenes nicely.

If you want to build a team don’t be the first to divide the team by determining who eat what and who doesn’t. Food is very important for crew members. I also know some crew members abuse it, but until then feed them. At least they earned it. A Covenant University student has called out the management of the institution for failing to carry out COVID-19 test on its students.
Recall that Ogun state government have given tertiary institutions in the state the permission to resume its academic activities, with specific guidelines in place. They clearly stated that all students are to be tested for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) before being allowed on the premises.

The Nigerian music industry has lost a jewel as popular talent manager, Winston Ola Badmus popularly known as Olamus died on Sunday, September 27th.
According to reports Olamus slumped and died in his residence in Lagos.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, October 1 as a public holiday to mark the nation’s 60th independence day celebration.
The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated all Nigerians on the Celebration of the Country’s Diamond Jubilee and assured them of Government’s unwavering commitment to the socio-economic transformation of the country.

A Twitter user, Daniel Regha has taken to the platform to allege that the just concluded BBNaija show was biased.
According to Daniel Regha, Laycon won the show because he betrayed many housemates, and badmouthed alot of them.
He also lamented that Laycon played dirty to reach the finale stating that karma will pay back.
Speaking further, he claimed that the show was biased and it wasn’t surprising that Laycon won. He said tribalism and sentiments came into the show and viewers applauded pretentious acts.

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has been condemned by residents of the state for throwing money at people in a marketplace, in a bid to buy their votes ahead of the forthcoming governorship election on October 10.
The governor had while returning from a campaign stopped his convoy at the popular Oja-Oba Market in the state capital, Akure and began throwing money at the masses. In the video, people were seen scampering to pick money from the floor.
Some residents of the state have criticized the governor for his action and described it as wasteful and wrong.
A private school teacher, Mr Tope Ibikunle, said,
“I saw him at Oja Oba Market throwing money at people. The attitude he displayed showed that it is the way they want to use money to buy votes on the day of the election but I know our people are wiser.
“This is what Akeredolu has turned Ondo State people to. This attitude is shameless and it has also shown that this is how he had been wasting our money in government.
“How could a sitting governor be throwing money openly in a public place? This is the money he is supposed to use in building hospitals and schools but he is busy wasting it and heavily taxing people.”
Another resident, Mrs Funmi Adegbenro, said the attitude of the governor should be condemned by Nigerians.
She said,
“This is a total disgrace. How can a governor be throwing money like this publicly? He just wants to woo voters in the state by every means. This is not the best strategy.
“Can somebody tell Akeredolu that the election is not won like this and I’m surprised that he is a lawyer who should know better, you can just imagine how they are wasting our money.”
Femi Omisule, a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, expressed his disappointment in the governor.
He said,
“Watching Akeredolu throwing money publicly reminds me of how some of my friends had to drop out of school as a result of the hike in our tuition all because there was no money.
“This is the same governor that increased our school fees and claimed Ondo had to generate more funds. So, we can all see how he is spending our money. It is sad and I know my friends won’t forgive him watching this video. Our people must shine their eyes in this election.”
However another resident, Ayokunle Omodugba, commended the actions of the governor, stating that he doesn’t see anything wrong in him throwing money to people in public.
He said,
“I see no crime here. At least, the governor threw the money to the people on the street and they are Ondo residents.
“The governor out of excitement threw money to traders and they were also happy to see him throwing money at them.
“If people are saying he is wasting our money, at least he is throwing the money to residents. So, it is still our money and I don’t see any sin with his attitude.”

According to the lady, some viewers of the just concluded Big Brother Naija “lockdown” season are allegedly planning to throw raw eggs at Vee during her media rounds.
She allege that haters of the ex housemate are planning to storm Cool FM during her media rounds, to throw raw eggs on her.

Big Brother Naija ‘lockdown’ housemate, Erica has come out to refute claims that she mocked fellow housemate Laycon despite knowing his genotype.
Few weeks back Laycon opened up about his genotype to his fellow housemates, stating that he’s “SC” and doesn’t like to share the information with people to avoid pity.
However, the revelation took a new toll as many fans of the musician took to Twitter to accuse Erica of body shaming Laycon despite knowing he was sickle cell.
According to many fans, Erica was the only housemate who knew about Laycon’s genotype before now and used it against during their fight in the house.
Twitter users claimed that during the fight Erica stated that Laycon would die before 50years because he hasn’t taken his drug for weeks.
The actress has now addressed the issue, claiming she had no idea Laycon was “SC”.
She further stated that all she said during their fight was as a result of bottled up emotions and not because she knew he was sickle cell.
In her words,
“I am very sensitive to people’s feelings, If I do things wrong I always go back to apologize and there’s no time I’ve ever used whatever someone says to me against them.
“Laycon never told me he was ‘SC’ there’s no time he ever said that to me.. He knows he never said that to me , Left to me Laycon was fine, Laycon was alright.
“It was just bottled up emotions and obviosly I was under the influence, that is it”
Nigerian comedian and actor, AY Comedian has suggested that a Big Brother Naija edition be organized for the nation’s presidential aspirants in forthcoming elections.
According to him, youths gave up on the electoral process the moment they realized that their votes don’t count.
He made a case for all future presidential aspirants to be selected as housemates in a newly organised Big Brother Naija edition.
AY further stated that for people to see that young Nigerians can be committed to electing the right people, the process has to be fair and seamless.

Popular Nigerian Rapper/Singer, Divine ‘Rema’ Ikubor, yesterday, took Twitter Nigeria by storm after he went on a Kanye-esque tirade in a flurry of tweets speaking against the system.
The 20-year-old’s tweets led to some damning revelations as he tackled the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the death of his father, Justice Ikubor, who until his death in 2008, was a PDP chieftain.
Here are five things we learnt from the young man’s tweets.
– He’d already made millions before he attained fame.
According to the ”Beamer” crooner, he was already making money before his breakthrough with fame came. He insisted that the money he now gets did not change him.
– He stole Eric’s laptop in the same 2017.
Rema also revealed he stole a laptop from someone named Eric in 2017. “Eric, Sorry I stole your Laptop in 2017, I know you were trying to help me. My Mom had a child on the way, I was the only man in my family. They made fun of her because she got pregnant, I wanted to prove them wrong bro, I had to do it.”
– His late father, Justice Ikubor died under mysterious circumstances
Rema called out the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the death of his father Justice Ikubor.
Justice Ikubor was said to be a high ranking member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State and former General Manager of the state-owned Ethiope Publishing Company before his death. He was found dead in a room at Bins Hotel in Benin City, the state capital in 2008.
According to Nigerian Tribune, Ikubor checked in with a female friend at about 8:30 p.m on the day he died. The lady reportedly left the hotel premises after spending some hours with the deceased.
– He performed at Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki’s victory in 2016
Rema may be young but he’s been in the game for a long time. He revealed that his last performance as an upcoming artist was at Godwin Obaseki’s first term victory in 2016.
