The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has been condemned by residents of the state for throwing money at people in a marketplace, in a bid to buy their votes ahead of the forthcoming governorship election on October 10.
The governor had while returning from a campaign stopped his convoy at the popular Oja-Oba Market in the state capital, Akure and began throwing money at the masses. In the video, people were seen scampering to pick money from the floor.
Some residents of the state have criticized the governor for his action and described it as wasteful and wrong.
A private school teacher, Mr Tope Ibikunle, said,
“I saw him at Oja Oba Market throwing money at people. The attitude he displayed showed that it is the way they want to use money to buy votes on the day of the election but I know our people are wiser.
“This is what Akeredolu has turned Ondo State people to. This attitude is shameless and it has also shown that this is how he had been wasting our money in government.
“How could a sitting governor be throwing money openly in a public place? This is the money he is supposed to use in building hospitals and schools but he is busy wasting it and heavily taxing people.”
Another resident, Mrs Funmi Adegbenro, said the attitude of the governor should be condemned by Nigerians.
She said,
“This is a total disgrace. How can a governor be throwing money like this publicly? He just wants to woo voters in the state by every means. This is not the best strategy.
“Can somebody tell Akeredolu that the election is not won like this and I’m surprised that he is a lawyer who should know better, you can just imagine how they are wasting our money.”
Femi Omisule, a student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, expressed his disappointment in the governor.
He said,
“Watching Akeredolu throwing money publicly reminds me of how some of my friends had to drop out of school as a result of the hike in our tuition all because there was no money.
“This is the same governor that increased our school fees and claimed Ondo had to generate more funds. So, we can all see how he is spending our money. It is sad and I know my friends won’t forgive him watching this video. Our people must shine their eyes in this election.”
However another resident, Ayokunle Omodugba, commended the actions of the governor, stating that he doesn’t see anything wrong in him throwing money to people in public.
He said,
“I see no crime here. At least, the governor threw the money to the people on the street and they are Ondo residents.
“The governor out of excitement threw money to traders and they were also happy to see him throwing money at them.
“If people are saying he is wasting our money, at least he is throwing the money to residents. So, it is still our money and I don’t see any sin with his attitude.”
The public opinion was gathered by Sahara Reporters.

Big Brother Naija ‘lockdown’ housemate, Erica has come out to refute claims that she mocked fellow housemate Laycon despite knowing his genotype.
Few weeks back Laycon opened up about his genotype to his fellow housemates, stating that he’s “SC” and doesn’t like to share the information with people to avoid pity.
However, the revelation took a new toll as many fans of the musician took to Twitter to accuse Erica of body shaming Laycon despite knowing he was sickle cell.
According to many fans, Erica was the only housemate who knew about Laycon’s genotype before now and used it against during their fight in the house.
Twitter users claimed that during the fight Erica stated that Laycon would die before 50years because he hasn’t taken his drug for weeks.
The actress has now addressed the issue, claiming she had no idea Laycon was “SC”.
She further stated that all she said during their fight was as a result of bottled up emotions and not because she knew he was sickle cell.
In her words,
“I am very sensitive to people’s feelings, If I do things wrong I always go back to apologize and there’s no time I’ve ever used whatever someone says to me against them.
“Laycon never told me he was ‘SC’ there’s no time he ever said that to me.. He knows he never said that to me , Left to me Laycon was fine, Laycon was alright.
“It was just bottled up emotions and obviosly I was under the influence, that is it”

Evicted Big Brother Naija ‘Lockdown’ housemate, Vee has blamed ‘miscommunication’ for her rift with Tolanibaj and disqualified Erica.
The 24-year-old, who is said to be blunt, stated that her disagreement with Tolanibaj was a misunderstanding on her part.
Recall that Erica had revealed that Tolanibaj was interested in Neo.
This caused tension in the house as Vee thought Tolanibaj and her were good friends and was disappointed that she would want to steal her man.
But after eviction, Tolanibaj clarified that she has no feelings for Neo but was misunderstood.
“I was misunderstood, I do not have feelings for Neo but I find him attractive. There is a difference between when you find someone attractive or want to have a relationship with the person,” she said.
Speaking to Ebuka on Monday, Vee said she was willing to apologize to Tolanbaj for all she said about the issue.
”I feel something has been misconstrued, there is a miscommunication but it is my fault and the miscommunication came from me. I will make the first move but I don’t know if she will be willing to listen to me but I know it is my fault and I was wrong.”
When asked about her rift with Erica, Vee said, ”My issue with Erica is because I took sides. I tried to put myself in her shoes but I did not get it. I know Laycon is her friend and when she did her romance in his face, he felt like he wanted to die because he was trying to figure it out and I had to deal with his feelings.
”Erica said everyone in the house was making her feel like a devil but I did not see her that way. Me and Erica’s issue is not beef, how she left was unfortunate but it was just a misunderstanding.”
She, however, maintained that she had no regrets, but has learnt to think before she talks.
”I don’t have regrets, I have lessons learnt. I feel like I need to think before I talk. I need to put myself in people’s shoes. In the house I sometimes forget that there are cameras and I just say my mind because they are my people.
”I forget that even if the person you spoke about forgives you, the people that support that person might not forgive you. The show was real for me and if you come to me and say you don’t like what I said about you, I will apologize but now I know there are millions of people to apologize to,” she added.
Winner of the just concluded Big Brother Nigeria season 5, Laycon has said he never spoke about Erica in a bad light.
Laycon in an interview with Ebuka on Monday said he spoke about their issue to other housemates because he needed closure.
When told that some viewers were of the opinion that he spoke badly of Erica to some housemates, Laycon insisted that he never said Erica was a bad person and did not portray her that way.
”I have never been in that kind of situation. I expressed myself to the people I thought would listen. I knew I wanted to stay away from her when she said nothing would happen between us, but I still needed to talk about it as a form of closure for myself.
”I never said Erica was a bad person, and I did not portray her that way because I remember still saying I cared about Erica as an individual even after everything,” he added
Recall that Erica was disqualified from the reality show after an intense fight with Laycon.

Generally, winnings are taxable. Even Gifts are taxable except they are exempted. But I’m not sure we have inheritance tax in Lagos but they will tax if you need Governor’s consent on a Deed of gift.
Lottery winnings are considered ordinary taxable income for both federal and state tax purposes. That means his winnings are taxed the same as your wages or salary
Nothing escapes from the Tax Man

Earlier today, Nigerian social media users were puzzled over what could have triggered music sensation, Rema venting on micro-blogging app, Twitter.
The singer was among other music artistes who performed live at the BBNaija: Lockdown grand finale show and a lot of people speculated that something may have occurred backstage between himself and other prominent acts which caused him to vent online.
A particular user tweeted what he’ll now later say is a joke that DMW boss, Davido assaulted the youngster during the live show which is what prompted him to vent… saying things like,
Niggas don’t wanna see a kid win, they feel I got it too easy. I shower with my sweat, we go off on this side like the days in BENIN it got nun to do with my deal, come and sign these papers without a hustler spirit, you gone lose! Management gone change my password now lol
Well, the user later claimed that his tweet was a joke and a lie. He wrote,
Guys, this tweet about Davido slapping Rema was just a joke and a lie. Thank you
Davido then quoted his tweet saying what he did was unfair cause people actually believed him. The singer wrote,
Actually not fair bro … cus pple actually believed u … we humans too my guy

Sometime in the year 2017, we published the report of a 17-year-old lad, Divine Ikubor gifting his mother a brand new Lexus SUV car. See here
At the time, we dubbed the kid “an upcoming musician” who made a gesture that most people are still aspiring to make. Divine would later be signed to MAVINs records by Don Jazzy and D’Prince and become popular with the stage name, Rema.
Earlier today, Rema took to micro-blogging platform, Twitter to vent in a series of tweets that had him pour his heart out — What may have triggered his action is still quite foggy although, rumour has it that some sort of dispute might have occurred backstage at the Big Brother Naija live eviction show.
In one of his tweets as he was venting, Rema revealed that he was a millionaire way before the fame. According to talented music artiste, even before he performed his first show, his account was already reading in 6 zeros.
To affirm his claim, we recall that it was the singer who gifted his mother a brand new car in 2017 and as at that time, he was yet to be signed to MAVINs records.
Here’s a video of a young Rema gifting his mother a new whip,
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Senator Elisha Abbo to pay the sum of N50 million to the nursing mother, identified as Osimibibra Warmate, he assaulted in a sex toy store.
The video of the incident went viral in May 2019 and instantly sparked public outrage. The youngest senator in Nigeria was caught on camera slapping Osimibibra inside the store.
Weeks after the incident, Elisha Abbo apologized for his act at a media briefing in Abuja. He claimed he had never been known or associated with assault in the past, blamed it all on anger which he said he was sincerely sorry for.
Elisha Abbo broke down in tears as he pleaded that all Nigerian men and women should forgive him, and added that the backlash he has faced so far has taught him a lesson as a private citizen and a public officer.
Inspite of the video recording evidence and public apology, a court dismissed the charges against Abbo in July 2020, which caused more outrage. The presiding judge ruled that the evidence and exhibits tendered to the court did not prove the criminal charges against the lawmaker.
However, more than a year after the assault occurred, a Federal High Court in Abuja found him liable for the assault and has ordered him to pay N50M as compensation to Osimibibra Warmat.
Remember that video of a Nigerian Senator slapping/assaulting a young lady at a shop? Well justice was served today with the Court slamming the sum of N50M against the Senator. I am delighted to have represented that young lady in this suit. We say no more to oppression! https://t.co/zM9zQlEcH7
Mavin boss, Don Jazzy has urged social media users to pay attention to singer, Rema’s tweet as he’s trying to pass a message across.
Don Jazzy stated this when Twitter users asked him to stop Rema from venting on the micro blogging platform.
He wrote, “Why? He’s passing a message read on”.
The young Nigerian singer, Rema took to Twitter in the early hours of Monday to vent and make shocking revelations on the platform.
Rema.
