The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed that the agency has received about four submissions as a potential cure for COVID-19.
In her words ;
“I made a call for people to submit their application and I believe we have about three or four now and we are going to expedite the processing because it takes a while for us to go through the laboratory testing and what not but I have already given the directive to expedite.
“So, where we are right now is just to make sure that the information submitted is okay and by the end of the week, we may be sending these samples to the lab after we must have gone to inspect the site where the products are made because we don’t want a product that somebody will take and the person will start vomiting.
“So, we will go and inspect the site to make sure that whatever sample we are going to get must have been prepared in an environment that will not make the drug to compromise the health of the user.
“If somebody says he or she has a remedy for COVID, first of all, we want to know the history of the plant or the family the plant belongs to, background information on the botanical characteristics of the plant, we will also want to know whether the plant has been used for anything before because sometimes, we use one plant for several diseases and the usage will be different for a particular disease.
“We will also ask for any written or published document about the plant because the plant may not come from Nigeria and it may be available in other climes.
“So, we want to ensure that we get enough information and once that application is submitted with the information, then we will start the process and part of the process involves inspecting where the medicinal product was prepared to be sure that it is not going to compromise the health of the people.”

A Nigerian lady identified as Fatima Babashehu Liman, is demanding justice for her cousin, Sadiq, who sustained a gunshot injury in his hand after he was allegedly attacked by SARS officials in Abuja on Monday May 18.
Fatima took to her Facebook to write,
JUSTICE FOR SADIQ!!!
With deep sorrowful broken heart I write dis painful story of what happened to my cousin today. Today as a Nigerian citizen, I have seen the highest order of abuse of office by the SARS officers and cruelty.
At about 1pm SARS officers jumped the fence and entered my aunt’s house in gwarinpa abuja, and started shooting, Sadiq was performing ablution for zuhr prayers.
On sighting one of the officers shooting, he got scared and he thought they were armed robbers. Out of fear, he jumped in to their neighbour’s house. One of the officers shot him on the hand, Sadiq was bleeding. He handcuffed Sadiq and one of the neighbour’s son and took them in to their vehicle. Meanwhile, the remaining officers broke the doors in to the house, brought out the remaining boys and her Husband and started beating them up and took them away and after some minutes, some of the officers came back to the house and packed the bullets that were on the floor in an attempt to hide evidence.
After making several phone calls, they were said to be taken to the SARS office at Guzape with alot of cooked up stories. On reaching there, they took us to see one of the heads of the office. He narrated the story that the officers were chasing a kidnapper demanding a ransome and the kidnapper jumped into my aunt’s house and that they didnt shoot any body, that Sadiq got injured by a barb wire while trying to escape and that Sadiq is the kidnapper.
After narrating our own side of the story, the officer realised they were some hidden facts. After clear listening to his step mum, the officer asked them to release every body. I demanded they take Sadiq to the hospital and get him treated and they must foot the bills. The commander and his deputy threatened to arrest me for saying that, and he said everyone should be rearrested he is not releasing anybody.
After going back and forth, I insisted they give us Sadiq for treatment and seeing is a gun shot injury, non of the hospital’s will accept us without a police officer attached to us. I demanded one of the police officer accompanies us to the hospital. They took Sadiq into their Hilux vehicle, drove him to National Hospital and left. The Doctors told them to wait behind and submit their statement, they refused and left us there.
When the bandage on Sadiq’s hand was removed, it was a gun shot injury. The bullet has damaged his Radius and Ulna bone, and also damaged the whole tendons on the wrist. We are demanding justice for Sadiq and the entire Family if there is any justice remaining in Nigeria, if not we have raised our hands and prayed to Allah in this Holy month for devine intervention, but today as a Nigerian Citizen, our government has failed us.
SARS officers are very cruel and in human, the officer that shot Sadiq was looking like a hoodlum, with is tattered hair style and chains hanging around his neck, if any one can help us raise the alarm until it reaches the ears that needs to hear and Justice is given to Sadiq it will be appreciated, pls help us share until it reaches the ears that need to hear… This is Sadiq’s picture at the trauma Centre in National Hospital Abuja…”

The Enugu state government has confirmed three new cases of Coronavirus in the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Health Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu who lamented over the continous violation of the interstate travel ban, said the new cases include a widow from Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the State who smuggled her late husband’s corpse into Enugu State from Lagos for burial.
Ikechukwu also revealed that two Coronavirus patients have tested negative for the virus after undergoing successful treatment.
He said;
“ 2 more COVID-19 patients in Enugu test negative, as State records 3 new positive cases with travel history
“The Enugu State Ministry of Health wishes to announce that 2 more cases out of the previously active COVID-19 cases undergoing treatment in Enugu State have tested negative and are being assessed for discharge from the isolation and treatment centre.
“However, the state has unfortunately received 3 new results of persons who have tested positive for the virus.
“This means that Enugu State has had 15 cases in all, with 9 active cases and 6 cases discharged after testing negative.
“The two cases that have tested negative are case number 5 and her daughter who is case number 9.
“The 3 new positive cases, who entered Enugu State illegally during this ban on inter-state transportation, are as follows:
“Case 13 is a 25-year-old man from Ondo State who lives in Lagos and made his way first to Akwa Ibom, then to Rivers State and finally to Obollo Afor in Udenu LGA of Enugu State, all within the period of closure of all land boundaries and inter-state movement. He developed symptoms while at Obollo Afor, the health authorities were alerted, he was tested and his result came out positive.
“Case 14 is a 38 year old male, from Okpuje in Nsukka LGA, who lives in Nasarawa State, and found his way back to Enugu State during the same period of lockdown.
“On suspecting he may have contacted the virus, he initially went into self-quarantine in a hotel at Nsukka. He subsequently developed symptoms and alerted the health authorities. He was tested and his test result also came back positive.
“Case 15 is a 28 year old female and a widow who hails from Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State and lives in Lagos State with her husband. She recently lost her husband in Lagos and was able to smuggle her husbands corpse back to Enugu State for burial, despite the lockdown in Lagos State and the national ban on inter-state movement . Her actions raised suspicion and the health authorities were alerted. She was subsequently tested and her result came back positive.
“These unfortunate figures are coming up as a result of individuals who have deliberately disobeyed the lockdown order and inter-state transportation as ordered by the Federal and State governments.
“In these times, we all need to comply strictly with all measures and regulations and exercise restraint from behaviours that will put others at risk.
“The good people of Enugu State are still encouraged to continue to comply with the directives of the Federal and Enugu State governments on containment of the spread of COVID-19 as well as the precautionary measures in the public health advisory of the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, and the Enugu State Ministry of Health.”

In a nutshell, the police told her to go and look for the father of the boy if she cannot take care of the child again. She promised to do so. The DPO also followed up yesterday to ensured that the father is found. There is no way the police can keep the child with them. They have made her to write an undertaking even with a surety who promised she will never do it again.’‘ she said
Watch a clip from the moment the boy was rescued below;
A Nigerian woman who just delivered a baby girl amid the covid-19 pandemic, was given a surprise drive-by baby shower by well-meaning friends and the emotional moment could not be contained by the woman as she was moved to tears.
Her friends came over with their cars and showered her with gifts in a creative way that did not flout the social distancing directive.
The woman’s friends arrived at the same time taking turns waving from windows and passing in front of her house.
Gifts were dropped one by one close to the gate without any physical interaction between people.
The lady could not hold back the tears and she was obviously happy beyond words could describe.
