#Covid-19: Adamawa state records first case of novel virus

The Adamawa state government has confirmed its index case of the novel Coronavirus disease in the state.

State governor, Ahmadu Fintiri announced the development in a state broadcast today, Wednesday April 22, 2020.

According to the governor, the victim is a returnee from Kano state. This comes 14 hours after Kano state recorded 14 more COVID-19 infections.

In other news, the Federal Government has warned Kano residents against buying drugs being sold as “COVID-19 vaccines” in the state.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed raised the alarm at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) in Abuja on Tuesday April 21, and he said the yellowish vaccines being sold in Kano have not been certified.

Lai Mohammed said,

“The federal ministry of information and culture and its agencies have put up a public enlightenment and advocacy campaign to continue to reach Nigerians with information on how they can protect themselves and avoid contracting the disease.

“This is necessary because in the absence of any vaccine or drug, non-pharmaceutical intervention remains the most effective way to contain the spread of the disease and protect Nigerians.

“By the way, you must ignore the vaccine being hawked in Kano which is called COVID-19 vaccine. It’s yellow in colour. It is not certified by anybody; please don’t patronise the hawkers.

“The campaign has, therefore, continued to focus on the need for the populace to adhere strictly to social distancing and mass gathering restrictions. Wear face masks and ensure good personal hygiene.”

Nigerian guy narrates how his younger brother committed suicide after alleged inhumane treatment by SARS operatives

A Nigerian guy has taken to Twitter to give the narrative of how his younger brother fell into depression and committed suicide following an ordeal he experienced from SARS operatives.

The #JusticeForSeyiAkinade hashtag has become a trend on Twitter currently and it all started when @Comeback_Snarky gave the narrative of the inhumane treatment by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives his younger brother received, which reportedly pushed the young man – a forex trader – into committing suicide.

@Comeback_Snarky took to his page to share tweets from his younger brother just before he died this morning, April 22 – he said he must have “committed suicide out of depression based on the way SARS officials recently treated him.

The Twitter user’s brother was reportedly arrested at Camp Abeokuta and driven to Ibara Police Station where SARS operatives allegedly accused him of being a fraudster, and also told him he will regain his freedom if he pays N200k.

He tweeted;

My younger brother died earlier this morning and I can’t help beating myself up for missing the clues he left as to what he was going through. My theory is that he committed suicide out of depression based on the way SARS officials treated him.

He wrote in another post,

His post yesterday morning and Some of the hints he has been leaving on twitter this past week. It’s definitely a crime to be Nigerian. Nigeria won’t rest until it takes your life!! I don’t even know how to feel right now, I just feel empty.

He was learning how to draw from me… Tho he was in school, he ran a forex trading Enterprise. Many people can attest to the fact that seyi is not a Yahoo boy. He did legit, he always wanted to be legit and Nigeria killed him for it. Up Nigeria! You guys have done it again!

Please tag appropriate agencies too Seyi is dead but there are many people contemplating suicide right now. Pick up your phone now, dial that number. One call can save a life

Suspected cult leader killed by gang members over disagreement in Cross River (Photos)

An infamous cult leader in Ugep area of Cross River State has reportedly been killed during a clash with his gang members.

According to a report by SaharaReporters, the deceased simply identified as JBoy, belonged to a certain cult group which has been terrorizing residents of Ugep for years.

According to a resident, a power tussle between the deceased and another cult member known as Arikpo 007 had left many in the gang dead in recent months.

“It’s an internal crisis within the Vikings also known as Baggers. Few months ago, there was power tussle between Jboy and one Arikpo 007, this led to killing of another gang member. A robbery incident that took the life the CEO of House 27 Hotel in Ugep and many other robberies in the community were all linked to the gang. It got to a stage when Jboy’s father was dragged out from his house and flogged with machetes by Arikpo’s boys.

Following the humiliation on his father, Jboy swore never to leave cult violence until he kills Arikpo 007, a threat that kept Arikpo on the run. On April 20, 2020, another cult member, also a Viking, was shot dead by aggrieved members of the same cult as a reprisal attack after a meeting around Ijiman Street.

The situation led to an immediate reprisal by the other faction and it was in the process that Jboy and another gang member named Solo were killed. The entire community is in chaos and everyone is afraid of what might happen next” a resident who spoke on condition of anonimity says

The state police command is yet to comment on the attack.

“No mineral?”- Woman asks as Ubi Franklin shares free food in her neighbourhood (Video)

As major cities in Nigeria are observing a mandatory lockdown because of the deadly novel coronavirus, many families have facing untold hardship as most of them cannot afford the essential stuff needed to survive the lockdown.

In a little way to help cushion the stinging effects, Ubi Franklin in collaboration with some other sponsors recently launched a campaign to share food items to the needy in this trying period of hunger and hardship

Some videos which Ubi Franklin posted on his verified Instagram page showed the moment the food packages were delivered to many Nigerians who came forward to get their shares of the food.

However, the question of a woman who also came forward to receive food has triggered different reactions from Nigerians who tagged her ungrateful.

Comedian, I Go Dye, donates his mansion to be used as Isolation center (photos)

Comedian, Francis Agoda aka I Go Dye, has announced plans to donate his mansion to the Federal government to be used as an Isolation center as the nation continues to battle the Coronavirus pandemic.

The comedian says he is worried by the increasing number of COVID19 cases recorded each day and as such, is donating his mansion as his own contribution towards the efforts of the government to control, prevent, isolate and treat those diagnosed or to be treated in future.

He also called on the Federal government to implement a two weeks total lockdown so as to curb the spread of the ravaging viral disease.

He wrote;

I’M DONATING MY NEW FAPOH ROYAL SEAL MANSION TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA TO USE IT AS AN ISOLATION CENTRE.

Humanity will overcome all its challengens only if we are willing to let go of the things we are not using for now for the benifit of others.

In view of the increasing cases of #coronavirus patients in Nigeria, and the few screening centres available for now, I’m deeply worried.

We will be making humanitarian sacrifices towards contributing our selfless deeds to control the escalating records of the #coronavirus as predicted by WHO.

When I wrote an open letter to Mr President on the 5th of Apri 2020 on how we can control the spread of the convid-19, it was only 210 cases, today it moving towards a thousand.

We should be proactive if we hope to win this global war, that has no boundaries,no discrimination and unfortunately indestructible for now.

Against this backdrop, and the ongoing lock down, the few services left has been put on hold at the ongoing FAPOH Royal Seal Mansion project site.

I feel convinced to donate this my new FAPOH Royal Seal Mansion to the Federal Government to used as an isolation centre, as my personal quest to assist in the control, prevention, isolation and treatment of those diagnosed or to be treated in the course of us finding a lasting solution.

This donation will stand as a gift to humanity, till we find a solution which will once again set us free from the shackles of this incurable disease.

I am appealing to Nigerians to take this matter seriously because Covid-19 is real as it has claimed over one million lives in all parts of the world.

The hardship is really getting harder, it may jeopardize the progress of controlling the spread of the virus.

The feldral government must provide adequate palliatives for all Nigerians, till this disease becomes a thing of the past.

I also appeal for a two-week total lockdown to enable government treat existing cases and curb further spread by those who may have contracted the Covid-19. This lockdown will control all forms of movement and socialization between individuals or groups.

May God see us through this dark moments. Amb Francis Agoda

Nigerian lady commits suicide months after writing about depression and suicide

A Nigerian lady has reportedly committed suicide 11 months after writing about “depression and suicide”.

Facebook user, Adeleke Rachel Tioluwani had earlier disclosed that she was facing lots of challenges which pushed her into depression and suicide.

It was gathered that before her death, Rachel who was in psychological pain and had no father-figure in her life, was practically nursing and taking care of her mum, self-sponsoring her schooling with virtually no assistance from anywhere.”

A friend of the deceased, Tayo Fasuan who took to his page to mourn the loss, wrote;

A Tribute to Adeleke Rachel Tioluwani

At the height of my intense pain and sadness yesterday, I snapped, and started feeling a sense of errie calmness resulting from resignation about Tolu’s demise. I’m still hoping this is a bad joke though, and she came would come to say this is her own version of April Fool. But also, I hope with this post, I would be able to exorcise all the pains I’m feeling and dwell on happy memories I have of her.

Tolu had always been an enigma, and despite our relationship from just last year, we didn’t even meet for once. She approached me for mentorship for fiction writing, and I told her she didn’t need my help since she was already so good in expressing herself through written poems. She had ways with words, and she was meant for greatness with an imaginative mind that would rival anyone’s.

We started working together eventually, becoming perhaps the first official member of FictionWrit Magazine. However, few weeks into working with her, I realised she was troubled. At first, I thought it was financial after talking with her, and I told her I will be sending upkeep money to her when she explained her issue with schooling. She rejected that, and I had to convince her that I would be paying for her writings instead. That seemed acceptable with her, and we proceeded.

Weeks later, she had another issue. She was having issues with her boss, the founder of a writer community. It was a messy affair, and in my attempts to help her resolve it, I realised she was a ticking time bomb, walking all over eggs all her life. She was still very secretive, refusing to open up completely, but she let me in enough to catch a glimpse of the hell she was going through. At that young age of hers, she was going through what she shouldn’t be going through. With no father figure in her life, and she practically nursing/taking care of her mum, self-sponsoring her schooling with virtually no assistance from anywhere, she was in perpetual psychological pain.

I offered that she should consider change of location, and I even offered her a place to stay in Ekiti to start over again, promising to fund most of her expenses. She refused, insisting she couldn’t leave her mum. I offered other places for her to stay in Lagos, but for reasons I won’t divulge here, she still couldn’t take those offer. We reached an agreement eventually concerning work, funding and how to handle issues.

Few months into that agreement, she disappeared completely. Her phone was off, she wasn’t responding to her WhatsApp, and her Facebook was deactivated. I became exasperated after trying so much, fearing the worse and hoping for the best. After a while, I gave up. Late last year, she got across to me briefly to tell me she was okay, but before I could got a hold of her again, she disappeared. And I let her be again, hoping she would get back to me when she is fine.

I went through her walls last week, and I was shocked with the dark words there. Her writings have always, always carried a dark theme, as I had encouraged her to pour her emotions on paper through her ink as most of us writers do when we are going through hard times. This was different though. On reaching her WhatsApp status, I saw other ones, so I got across, knowing she was back on WhatsApp.

Our conversation revolved around coming back to writing and continuation of her education, having concluded OND last year. I told her we should consider her crossing to a degree program because of the problem with HND. We fell right back into smooth conversation, and she promised to even started writing, to get back to me on an offer I gave her. I thought she was over the worst, but I was so careless I couldn’t see beyond that definite goodnight she sent me.

I’m hurting right now not really because of her death, but because even till her final moments, she would be full of optimism. She was full of life. Of course, people are saying that’s the usual way suicidal people act, but I still can’t swallow that theory. She was a fighter, an incredible bullish one concerning life. She was a sweet one.

If she is truly dead, then I morn for an irreplaceble loss to this world. She is at peace right now. I wish she had done it differently, but I can’t seem to help her change her mind. That hurts too. Because this feeling of not doing enough to save her still lingers..

I won’t dwell on her death anymore. She had touched the lives of those she could and concluded her part. The happy memories are few because she was always in that dark hole that I had to be pulling her out every time. But those few memories are worth holding on to.

May she find the peace that eluded her here on the other side.

Once again Tolu, “Be good, Good night.”

Woman hatches duck egg by incubating it in her bra for over a month

A California woman has received praises for going above and beyond to ensure that a cracked duck egg she found in a park hatched, by incubating it in her bra for over a month – 35 days.

Photo: Betsy Ross/Bored Panda

Betsy Ross was walking in the public park when she found a smashed up duck nests, and was begged by her kids to save a lucky egg which had only a small crack.

She had never hatched an egg before, and she didn’t think she could save it, but the children were already upset because of the nests, so she said yes.

Photo: Betsy Ross/Bored Panda

In an interview with Bored Panda, Ross revealed that she contacted a local wildlife rescue organization since she didn’t have an incubator but learned they didn’t take eggs.

She thought of the next best warm place to keep it and opted for her bra, close to her chest. A quick search online proved that she had chosen the right spot as the eggs basically require warmth and humidity. She also read that she had to rotate it a few times a day.

Throughout the 35 days, the only time the egg wasn’t with her was when she showered as she handed it to her husband for a few minutes. She figured that if mother ducks left the nest every once in a while to get food, her egg would survive too.

The embryo inside the egg began to grow and Besty had to do more research on what to do when a duckling is hatching.

The little duck eventually got out of the egg, but it was still attached to the yolk on the bottom, which, she was told, was because he had hatched a bit early. She later learned on Reddit that it was either because the incubation temperature was too low, or because the temperature wasn’t stable.

Photo: Betsy Ross/Bored Panda

Even after the duckling absorbed the yolk, it was too weak to stand, or even move, for a couple of days, but its human mom didn’t give up on it, keeping an eye on it and giving it water from time to time. He (it turned out to be a male) eventually built up the strength to walk and Betsy built him a special carrier and took him everywhere with her.

#LagosUnrest : Guy gives hilarious reason why he quit guarding his street against 1 million boys.

A man has taken to his social media page to share a very funny reason why he quit his ‘batman’ duties for his community.

The man had joined the makeshift vigilante that took it upon themselves to guard their street against the infamous ‘1 million boys’.

Read his tweet below ;

So I & 5 hefty guys were securing the front of our crip. I had a shovel, they had cutlasses. One then suggested we patrol and we agreed.

Less than 100m walk, we saw two bikes accelerating towards us. Before I could say pim all 5 of my men disappeared. The only thing I heard was “iyke run!”. It never crossed my mind that I was moving gallantly with ungallant men. I ran too Fortunately, it was police. After a while, my men came out of their hideout, we gathered & started walking back to our domain.

We weren’t talking to each other. All of a sudden, one bursted out in laughter & every other person followed suit. We were laughing because we know we were useless. Just filling up the street. I asked Chidi why he ran, he said “nwuye m muru nwa ofóru, and nwa m amatabeghi m”.

Trans: my wife just gave birth and my child hasn’t known me yet.
