Many people are unaware that planes are forbiden from flying over the area Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi’s house is located and a new report has explained why.

Back in March 2018, Spanish airline, Vueling entered into an unplanned altercation with Football star Lionel Messi’s fans when the airline’s president Javier Sánchez-Prieto said in an interview that planes weren’t allowed to fly over Messi’s House in EL Prat Barcelona, and because of that, El Prat’s airport wouldn’t develop or expand.

Sánchez-Prieto was busy explaining why a plan to expand to Barcelona’s El Prat airport was being held up and casually remarked; “You cannot pass over where Messi lives.””This doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world.”

The comments generated a lot of negative reaction on social media against the airline and the airline was forced to issue an apology to the footballer and anyone that might have been hurt by their president’s remarks.

People on social media started questioning why Lionel Messi’s mansion, located in El Prat, Barcelona was a no fly zone, and after a year and seven months, AS magazine has published a report explaining why airlines don’t fly over Messi’s house.

According to AS, Barcelona’s airport is under environmental restrictions, and planes entering from El Prat into the Barcelona stadium have to take a different turn-around route to protect endangered fauna and flora species.

According to Spanish daily, AS;

‘As might have been expected, the answer was rather more straightforward than Messi instructing El Prat not to interrupt his siesta.’

‘The Barcelona captain lives in the municipality of Gavà, about 25km outside of Barcelona and inside the Parque Natural del Garraf, an area protected under Spanish environmental legislation and that contains endangered flora and fauna.’

‘Therefore, planes arriving at and leaving El Prat have to make a small detour out into the Mediterranean to bypass the area, which also answers that question for anybody who has flown to Barcelona and wondered why that 180º turn is necessary.’

42-year-old Ayuba John, has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Nasarawa state for attempting to sell his three-year-old son for N5 million.

Parading him before newsmen, Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mahmud Fari , said Ayuba, who is from Obi Local Government area of Nasararwa state, is not a first time offender as he has been arrested in the past for selling his daughter to someone in Owerri. According to Fari, Ayuba sold his children out for ritual purposes.

“I was moved to tears when I learnt that a biological father took his son to the market to sell him at the sum of N5million. When he was asked why he want to sell his son, he said he wants to increase his financial status. We also learnt that this is not his first child to be sold out. He sold his daughter earlier on to somebody in Owerri, and he is selling them out for rituals,” Fari said

When interrogated, Ayuba who is married to four wives with 23 children, said he resorted to selling off his children because he needed money to settle some personal issues.

Tricycles, generators, grinding machines and sewing machines won

The garden city of Port Harcourt came alive on Wednesday as hundreds of Nigerians comprising Port Harcourt residents and others from neighbouring towns of Calabar, Umuahia, Yenagoa, Ubosi and Abuloma converged on Mile 1 market, Diobu, to receive their prizes, in the third prize presentation ceremony of the on-going My Own Don Beta promo packaged by national telecommunication’s company, Globacom.

The Port Harcourt event was a follow –up to the second presentation held last week at Wuse Market, Abuja where another set of Nigerians won different prizes.

The event which was moderated by comedian Godwin Komone, commenced amidst good music provided by the dee jay and was filled with laughter and excitement as the crowd and guests, enjoyed delightful jokes coming from the comedian popularly referred to as ‘Bishop of Osusu Ministry’

Then came the presentation time and the atmosphere changed with the excitement and joyous dance by winners and their relatives as the lucky subscribers receive their prizes one after the other.

A delighted Keke winner, Mrs. Chinedu Okorie, who teaches at Federal Government Girls College, Abuloma, Port Harcourt, said “At the initial stage, I thought it was a scam until when they said I should go to the Head Office. When I got there I saw it was a reality. The Keke is coming at the right time. I will use it for business”

Also, Omang Anthony Oyong, a farmer and a resident of Calabar, who won a grinding machine, said, I will give the machine to my mother who has a shop and it will help to boost her business”

The event was attended by Chairman, House Committee on Services, Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon, Azeru Opara, and Head, Port Harcourt Liaison office, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Kate Ibekwe and Nollywood Star, Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as ‘Mama G’.

Commenting on the event, Hon Azeru Opara said, “I feel elated. What you people are showcasing today is that you appreciate the fact that people are using your Network and you are giving back to the society. It is a good thing. I want you to do more. I urge Nigerians to patronize their own. Globacom is our own. Nigerians should patronize Glo so that Glo can do more for the people”.

The prize presentation was preceded by the draw for next set of winners. 130 prizes including generators, grinding machines, sewing machines and tricycles will be available for presentation at the next event which comes up next Wednesday at Bodija Market, Ibadan, Oyo State.
