An unidentifed woman set the statue of Virgin Mary ablaze at a Catholic church in Enugu state this morning.
The incident, many has described as shocking happened at St. Jacobs Parish Orba, Nsukka.
It was gathered that the woman waited until the end of the early morning mass before perpetuating the act.
The suspect was immediately arrested and is currently being interrogated to find out the reason for her action.

Popular Actor, Eddie Murphy has signed a new deal to make Coming to America 2. The sequel will be penned by ‘Black-ish’ creator.
Over 30 years after Eddie Murphy starred as Prince Akeem in Coming to America, the actor will star in a sequel that’ll be scripted by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.
Plans for a sequel to the classic 1988 comedy were first announced in 2017 with director Jonathan Levine and Coming to America‘s original screenwriters on board but it didn’t follow through.
“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen” Murphy said in a statement.
The sequel will revolve around Murphy’s Prince Akeem returning to America to seek out his long-lost son, the heir to the throne of the African nation Zamunda.
Nigerian singer, Oritsefemi, has revealed that his wife, Nabila Fash will prefer to have him for herself alone and doesn’t allow ladies near him.
In an encounter with Sunday Scoop, Oristsefemi admitted that there were certain things he could before he got married but he is not capable of doing anymore immediately after he got wedded.
He said, “There are certain things I cannot do again because I am married. I respect my wife a lot. Though I still hang out with my male friends, I cannot do that with ladies any longer. Veteran actor, Dele Odule, has advised other actors against flaunting wealth on Instagram, with the belief that it misleads the younger generations.
In a chat with Sunday Scoop, Dele Odule believes that there are many actors in Nollywood who really have no business being in the industry.
“People like that are not in the business because they have passion for it. They are just looking for where to make ends meet. A trained actor will never run after material wealth. I am not saying that acting cannot open doors; it actually does.
However, a true actor will take material things as secondary; the priority is to get your message across to the viewers. The problem we are facing is that the industry is not sanitised. If there was a standard, many of those people you see who are all about flaunting material things on social media wouldn’t be in the industry.
What is the essence of going on social media to flaunt cars and other items? You would see many actresses dancing around on social media; even when they get pregnant, they flaunt it. Buying a car shouldn’t be a big deal but they make it seem as if it is.”
Commenting on the effect such acts would have on young ones, Dele said,
“They are passing a wrong message to the young ones out there who will have a warped impression of the industry.”
Drawing a line between following politicians for pecuniary gains and for the good of the country, the former TAMPAN president said,
“Somebody who is serious-minded and creative would not run after any politician. That is not to say that actors don’t have the constitutional right to follow whoever they like.
However, you have to follow rightly. You have to know the reason you are following the person. (Hubert) Ogunde followed Awolowo and we all know that the latter was a politician who did a lot for his people.

An 18-year-old Grade pupil at Vorentoe High School, committed suicide at her home in Klipspruit, South Africa after allegedly being bullied by her teacher.
Nicole Mnguni took her own life on Tuesday, January 8, after returning from the school to fetch her report, which they allegedly refused to give to her. She left a note which details the alleged abuse by the teacher. She also stated she wanted peace and to be with her father.
Mnguni is said to have been a victim of harassment and bullying by her teacher, and the school is aware of the case, but had allegedly not taken any action to address the case.
Her mother, Jessica Mnguni is demanding justice. She old Soweto Urban she could see that her child’s self-esteem was dead.
“Nicole is so bubbly but that woman killed her self-esteem, so she couldn’t take it. There was a time I went to the school, this teacher asked, are you Nicole’s mother?
“I said yes… She said your child, I was even shouting at her, she’s not doing well in class. I don’t know why she doesn’t drop it, and she’s not going to be anybody in life. I am not hurt, I am finished.”
Her friend, Mmathabo Makibelo, described her as an amazing soul who had a vision.

The boyfriend identified as Collins Moi, was said to have sneaked out of the hotel last Saturday, leaving his lady behind in Kitale city, Kenya.
Hotel administrators said they had no choice but to detain her until the Sh100,000 bill is cleared. According to Skynest Hotel management, Collins and his girlfriend Marsha Amario checked in on December 29 at 5pm and booked themselves in for six days as part of her birthday celebrations.
By the next day the bill had shot up to Sh9,000 and they were advised to make some payments but they did not heed. “We tried to engage Collins to pay the bill when it was manageable but he responded that he will pay the following day,” said Mr Timothy Simiyu, a manager at the hotel.
After five days, when the hotel management told him to sort out the bill before being provided more services he sneaked out of the hotel leaving the girlfriend stranded.
Last Saturday, he was called by the management and he said he was at Kabarak and that they should treat his girlfriend right as he was sourcing for funds to clear the bill by the following day. The promise was not fulfilled.
Last Tuesday, Marsha called via the hotel phone and he said he was still at Kabarak and that he would send a friend but that didn’t happen.
On Wednesday, he was said to have been unavailable on phone when his girlfriend tried to reach him.
Without any response, the management called the police on Thursday. Marsha was arrested and taken to Kitale Police Station and held overnight.
“He looked like a responsible person. He had so many friends who had surrounded him at the hotel and he bought so many expensive drinks for them,” Mr Simiyu said.
At the station, Ms Marsha said she did not expect her boyfriend to abandon her after bringing her all the way from Nairobi. “He told me he was taking me to Kitale since he had a birthday surprise for me. All along I knew he was the one paying for everything only to find myself in this situation,” she lamented.
On Thursday, Trans Nzoia West police boss Jackson Mwenga confirmed she would be arraigned.

Sosoliso plane crash survivor and singer, Kechi Okwuchi has undergone another surgery, this time in her neck.
Kechi Okwuchi revealed she went for another surgery on Tuesday 8th of January 2019.
Kechi said :
“I had surgery this past Tuesday guys, so I’ve been off the grid for a bit☺️ I had a full thickness skin graft, which is basically cutting viable skin from one part of the body and pasting it elsewhere, in this case, my neck. The goal is to release tension caused by heavy scarring in my neck ..anyway! Day 3 post op and I’m feeling stronger already so I thank God!”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has rejected the offers made to it early this week by the Nigerian government.
According to PREMIUM TIMES , the President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, said upon reviewing the offers made by the government, members of the union across various campuses and zones rejected it.
Mr. Ogunyemi, who described government’s offer on the outstanding revitalization fund of N1.1 trillion as tokenism, said members are insisting that government should release at least a tranche of N220 billion spread over four quarters of 2019.
He added that on earned allowances, government’s proposal should not be lesser than the total amount released “the last time” out of the verified balance.
Recall that as part of the agreement reached between the union and the government before ASUU ended its industrial action in September 2017, the Federal Government released a total N22.9 billion for earned allowances of both academic and non-academic staff across 22 Federal universities.
Of the amount, academics under ASUU got N18.3billion, while non-teaching staff belonging to the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) got N4.6 billion.
Mr Ogunyemi said; “Our members have rejected tokenism with respect to outstanding revitalization fund of N1.1 trillion. They are insisting that government should release at least one tranche of N220 billion spread over four quarters of 2019.
“On earned academic allowances, our members said government’s proposed amount out of the verified balance should not be less than the total amount released last time, while evidence of mainstreaming the allowances into the 2019 budget should be shown. Also, timeline should be attached to payment of the balance of the arrears.
“The revitalization fund and earned academic allowances are the two critical areas on which our members feel strongly about. They expect necessary adjustments on the part of government before they can reconsider their decision on the ongoing strike action.”
According to reports on social media, a man couldn’t afford a vehicle to convey his wife on their wedding day, so he used his motorcycle.

@tobi_nextlevel took to the comment section of a post shared by Tonto to write: “How I wish you and Daddy King can forget your difference and reunite again.”
Tonto quickly forbade the prayer, writing in all caps: “MAY GOD FORBID SUCH A PRAYER IJN.”
She added: “Thanks for the evil wishes, I know you intended well.”
But the follower maintained his stance and told Tonto that “all African women need a man in their life” because “it is not our thing in black race to live a life of single parent.”
Tonto wouldn’t budge and she insisted that the prayer was an evil one and whatsoever prayer dished out this year which isn’t in her favour, she has to forbid and cast out.

A Nigerian man living in Queensland, Australia has been arrested and charged after allegedly posing as a United States soldier online and forming a romantic relationship with a 34-year-old woman who sent him $370,000 all in the name of love.
Cosmos Emeh, 32, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, where it was revealed he had also been accused of trying to get the victim to send him a further $170,000 before officers swooped and arrested him at his Durack home on Thursday.
Mr Emeh, who is in Australia on a student visa, allegedly received the money over the course of three months from the 34-year-old Brisbane woman, who later contacted police and sparked the investigation.

According to his defence lawyer, the accused has been in Australia for two years, has no criminal history, is studying a certificate of urban and environmental planning at Griffith University and already holds a bachelor degree.
He had rented a Durack home with his partner, a permanent citizen, since entering the country.
According to his defence lawyer, Mr Emeh claimed the SIM card he was found with, allegedly associated with the phone number used to ask the victim for money, had only been in his possession since Thursday after it was sent to him.
The court heard Mr Emeh denied knowing the victim prior to Thursday, having any contact with her on the internet, being the instigator of the relationship or knowing he was involved in a scam.
However, Mr Emeh conceded that he may look suspicious in the circumstances, his lawyer said.
Police will allege the woman became involved with Mr Emeh on a social media platform in October 2018 while he was claiming to be a US soldier in Syria.
“Over the course of the following months, the victim was groomed into believing the stories provided by the criminal and formed an online romantic relationship,” a police spokesman said, before the man faced court.
“The victim sent over $200,000 to the ‘US soldier’ via a series of transfers through a money transfer service.”
Prior to his court appearance, police issued a public warning after uncovering a “disturbing element” within the alleged scam. They claimed the accused – acting as an agent for the soldier he was allegedly impersonating – travelled to the victim’s home to collect another $105,000.
In court, prosecutors alleged Mr Emeh had received a total of $370,000 from the victim.
Detective Superintendent Terry Lawrence of the state crime command’s financial and cyber crime group said the alleged scam was common worldwide.

Nigerian Singer, Orezi who faced severe criticism few days ago for allegedly burning the N1,000 note in a new promotional photo, has denied burning the Nigerian currency.
Orezi who released the picture to promote his new music, Born Broke Die Rich, was slammed by social media users who felt it was disrespectful to Nigeria and the country’s legal tender.
However Orezi has denied burning the Nigerian currency in a new interview with Saturday Beats, said it was an edited picture.
“I never burnt the N1,000 note like people thought, it was just graphics; an edited picture. I did not burn the Nigerian currency. If you look at the picture, you would see that the fire almost got to my eyes. If it were real, I would not have been able to withstand the heat. I cannot allow fire to burn my eyes because I want to take a picture. I replied some comments when people were criticising me because of the picture.
“I told them that it was an artistic paper and I did not burn the Nigerian currency. Why would I burn money to promote my music? A lot of my fans also tried to explain to those that were abusing me that it was an edited picture, but they would not listen. Some Nigerians in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have reacted to the strange drift of women making marriage or relationship proposals to their male counterparts.
They expressed mixed views over the trend in separate with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
They noted that although the development was alien to Nigeria’s culture, but it was becoming trendy in recent times due to increasing influence of western lifestyle, modernisation and pressure to get married.
According to some Nigerians, women who make marriage proposals to men should be applauded for their confidence, rather than ridiculed, condemned or labeled “desperate’’.
However, others said they were against the trend, adding that such proposals have been and should remain the sole responsibility of the man.
Mr Abdul Sarki of Garki 2 said : “Some men of marriageable age delay proposing to ladies they love due to indecisiveness, poor financial status and other economic realities.
“Thank God for modernisation, women are not restricted to seek what they want, and even asking men to marry them when they feel they are suitable ”.
“The society should stop judging or condemning women that propose marriages to men, but rather applaud and encourage them for taking the bold step,’’ he urged.
Mrs Julie Fadason, a resident in Asokoro said she proposed to her husband due to age factor and the need to start bearing children before menopause.
“I had to take the bull by the horn when I felt no marriage proposal was forthcoming despite being in a relationship for over five years with my husband.
” We were both not getting younger and we needed to act fast since we both wanted children,” she said.
According to her, they have been married for over 10 years now, and she has no regrets for taking the initiative to propose to him.
Similarly, Mrs Jummy Okewole, a mother of two, said she was advised to propose to her husband four years ago by some friends and close relatives.
” As at the time we were dating, he had no stable job, but had prospects and was responsible that was why I heeded to advise from people close to me and proposed to him.
“Now, God has blessed him with a very good job, that he has even asked me to resign from my work and opened a business for me.”
Okewole, therefore stressed that financial status should not be used as a yardstick for Marriage proposal, rather love and loyalty should be considered.
Mrs Jummai Adamu, said she was under a lot of pressure from her family and close friends that was why she proposed to her husband.
” Even though we have talked about settling down in the future, but my family and some friends contributed in making me to propose to my husband.
“Two of my younger sisters were already planning for their wedding, and they wanted me as the eldest to settle down before them.
“That was why I asked him to marry me or else I will settle down with another suitor, ”she said.
However, Miss Joy Obaseki, a spinster living in Karu said she could not make a marriage proposal to a suitor despite its growing trend in modern societies.
“I can not, because he might not respect me in future, especially when we have misunderstandings.”
Similarly, Mr Anthony Adams a resident of Jabi said as a man it was his responsibility to propose to a woman and not the other way round.
“I feel that makes me less of a man because I am the one to take care of her and our children, so I will propose when I am ready.
“Since she is not paying the dowry, why would she make the marriage proposal?’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that some female have recently taken the bull by the horn by proposing to their partners, like Judge Judy, a American TV courtroom personality.

JJC Skillz said he approached Akindele in 2012 after he had a dream that he would get married to the actress.

A suspected bandit identified simply as Ifeanyi, on Wednesday, escaped being lynched after allegedly being caught stealing ladies panties at a student area in Mgbakwu, Anambra State.
The suspect, from Umuneke, Enugu State, confessed that he had already stolen over 58 women panties before running out of luck.
It was gathered that Ifeanyi had broken into the house around 2 am and was harvesting the underwear, when a lady, who came out to urinate, saw him and raised alarm.
The suspect revealed that he usually sold the underwear to one Emeka Ofor at the rate of N500 in Enugu State. However, after being thoroughly beaten, Ifeanyi was later freed.
Nigerian Singer, Dbanj and his wife Lineo Didi decided to chill off by spending a nice time in the neighbouring country of Ghana. They were, however, not alone as Famous singer 2Baba and his wife Annie Idibia also embarked on the trip.

Earlier today, news of Tonto Dikeh flaunting a baby bump was rife online. The mum of one has however taken to her Instastories to deny the reports.
Tonto says she had a burger that made her stomach big afterwards which some interpreted as a baby bump.
She wrote :
Dear bloggers. before i post a pic of me rubbing my stomach i posted a fat burger i was about to eat!! So no i aint pregnant, i am simply overfed
I invented the wed and born in secrecy guys so how am i going to flaunt my pregnancy, So the demons on standby can eat it..

Embattled Senator, Dino Melaye who was earlier today whisked away from the Police clinic in Garki, Abuja, has been moved at the SSS medical center.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Jimoh Moshood, said Dino was taken away from the Police Clinic to the SSS medical center after they both disagreed on his fitness to face trial. The police had visited Dino on Wednesday January 9th in their clinic and asked that he be discharged so he can face trial but Dino refused, saying he still needed time to recover fully.
Recall that he slumped at the police headquarters last Friday January 4th after he surrendered to the police. Dino is wanted for questioning by the police for allegedly instructing his thugs to shoot at a police officer in Kogi state in July 2018.
Popular Dwarf model Fatima Timbo, who is just 4 feet tall has said dwarfism poses no challenge to her and she would not allow negativity to define her.
The 21 year old British model spoke to BBC News recently about building her confidence as well as her work in inspiring others to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Timbo said she would not allow negative comments get to her or stop her from promoting body positivity for people with dwarfism.
“I won’t be defined by my height,” she says.
Timbo says she can’t change the way she looks or what people say about her – but she has changed the way she looks at herself.
She said modelling boosted her confidence, and now she wants to inspire others to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Timbo admitted that she felt that her height had no limit and as such the sky was her limit, has already built lots of fan base for herself as a budding Instagram model.
Timbo happens to be the only one suffering from the condition in her family.
