A pregnant woman reportedly slumped and died at a BRT terminal in Lagos today while she was trying to catch a bus at the Mile 12 BRT terminal.

According to eyewitnesses, she died before she could get medical help in a situation similar to an incident that occurred a few years ago.

It was reported that a young girl slumped and died at the BRT terminus in Obalende just as she was about to pay for ticket to board a bus to Ajah.

Her body has since been evacuated by an emergency response team.

A woman has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly burning her husband and his girlfriend to death.

The 54-year-old Ghanaian woman identified as Theresa Nkrumah whose plea was not taken by Oda District Magistrate Count, will reappear before the court presided over by Mr. Kwesi Apiatse Abaidoo, on January, 8, 2019.

The tragic incident happened at Akyem Gyadam near Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The body of the deceased man, 55-year-old Emmanuel Kwame Osam has been deposited at the morgue of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital while the corpse of his deceased girlfriend, Akosua Tiwaa aged 34, has been deposited at the mortuary of the Oda Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecutor, Inspector Rosemond Mensah Aryee were that, for some time now, Nkrumah realised that her husband with whom she had three children, was flirting with Tiwaa and quarreled with them on several occasions but their relationship persisted.

Around 12:05 a.m. on December 13, 2018, while Osam and Tiwaa were fast asleep in the former’s family house, fire suddenly engulfed the bedroom through a window after an unidentified person had poured petrol into the room and lit a match to it.

When they tried to escape, the deceased persons detected that the door to the hall had been locked with red padlock so they started screaming for help.

As their scream attracted people in the house and broke into the room, they realised that the two persons were badly burnt so they rushed them to the Oda Government Hospital.

Tiwaa died immediately she reached the hospital so Osam was treated and was referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for specialist attention the following day.

The police in Lagos state have arrested one Ben Peters, a househelp that carted away his employers valuables eleven days after employment.

Ben was employed by seventy-three-year-old retiree, Alexander Okoye, and his wife, Njideka Okoye, on October 12th.

However on October 24th 2018, the suspect stole the couples valuables including their Toyota Camry saloon car 2008 model, five thousand United States Dollars, six packet shirts and a Motorola Android phone.

The distraught couple filed a petition to the Commissioner of Police in Lagos state, CP Edgal Imohimi. Based on their complaint, the CP directed CSP Kemi Adedeji and team attached to the Command’s Human rights section to launch a manhunt for the fleeing househelp.

On Tuesday December 12th, the said Ben Peters was arrested at his hideout in Agege, Lagos and some of the stolen items recovered from him. Police investigation revealed that the suspects real name is Usang Bassey Effiong and not Ben Peters as he made his employers to believe.

Confessing to the crime, the suspect narrated that he noted where Mr. Okoye usually hid his bedroom key and to gain access to it, he needed to duplicate the living room key; so he went ahead and made a copy of the living room key. He said on October 23rd, he made up his mind to break into the couple’s bedroom. And to do so undetected, he disconnected the CCTV camera that would have recorded his activities, picked up the bedroom key and constructively broke into the couple’s room, stole their valuables and thereafter, drove off with their car.

The suspect added that robbing the couple was easy for him because the househelp they dismissed before employing him, one Matthew Johnson Abam, was a member of his thieving syndicate and he had furnished him with relevant information about the couple even before he came to live with them.

Both suspects are currently undergoing interrogation with a view to helping the Police, arrest their partners in crime and recover the stolen items.

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Thursday paraded 10 persons suspected to be yahoo boys for impersonating American soldiers fighting in Afghanistan.

The suspects were paraded at the commission’s head office in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Head of operation Nnaghe Obono Itam said the suspects impersonated American soldiers fighting in Afghanistan to defraud American citizens.

Itam said the suspects used American tunes to extort money from their victims and warned the public against releasing their account numbers to persons.

He said: “We have noticed that within the last three months, we have the issue of yahoo yahoo boys who appeared to have resurfaced again.

“I am glad to say that with the partnership of the Federal SARS we were able to apprehend some of them”

“The most interesting aspect of it is that we still find people that fall prey to this scam.

“We have Nigerians who pretended that they are American Soldiers that came from Afghanistan and were talking to the Americans as if they are Americans soliciting for fund”

“They extorted money from them through I-tunes. The kind of the I-tunes is $100. They find it difficult to collect the money from Nigeria but they collect I-tunes from them and dispose it online in dollars”

“We have four of them in our custody. We still have others who pretended to be American soldiers working and talking to their victims that there were lots of mineral deposits such as gold.

“They contact people online in China asking them to come and buy the mineral deposits.

“In Nigerian they collect N5, 000 each from the unsuspecting public, which they receive from banks from Nigeria.”

He said that the Commission made recovery of cash and forfeitures to the tune of N1,674,891,899 , $552,368.55 and 5,225 euros while it secured 33 convictions in the year ending.

A man was allegedly shot dead by vigilante members and secretly buried in Delta state.

According to reports, the deceased identified as Boss Destiny was said to have been returning from a night club in Sapele area in the state, where he had an issue with some persons before he met his untimely death.

It was gathered that the issue was settled by some soldiers and the deceased was on his way home when he was allegedly shot in the chest by some vigilante members in his street.

Reports have it that the security operatives secretly buried the corpse that night to avoid being traced.

A friend of the deceased who was with him that night, reported the matter to his (deceased) family before heading to the police station.

The policemen immediately swung into action and exhumed the corpse of the deceased where it was buried. Some vigilante members were also arrested in the process.

A group of women and men stormed Yaba Market on Saturday to protest harassment in the marketplace. Women who visited the market after the Yaba Market March have now reported a positive change in the behavior of the traders towards female customers.

Majority of the women who shared their testimony on Twitter said the traders behaved themselves and tried not to touch them. Those who tried to touch were cautioned by other traders.

A Nigerian man drowned in a South African beach, as confirmed by the Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA).

The Union who announced the death of Mr Udebuani Chidokweanaukwu from Nando in Anambra, disclosed that the Nigerian man drowned in a beach in Swellendam near Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.

The statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by Mr Habib Miller, Publicity Secretary of the Union, reads in part;

“With sorrow and heavy heart, we have received the news of the death of Udebuani Chidokweanaukwu from Nando, Anambra State.

“According to the information from an eye witness, Chidikweanaukwu got drowned on the beach at Swellendam on Dec. 17.

“He is survived by his wife and children. NUSA sympathises with his family and friends at this difficult time of grief and pray God comfort them,” he said.
