Consumption Of Suya, Isi-Ewu, Kilishi, Is Killing Nigerians” – Health Minister Warns.

suya

Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, has lamented the rate of death in Nigeria resulting from unhealthy diet such as ‘isi ewu’ (spicy goat head) and the much loved suya.

According to Adewole, hypertension is the leading cardiovascular disease in Nigeria and can result in stroke if untreated. He remarked that 1 in every 5 Nigerians is hypertensive and at risk of premature death.

Presenting the keynote address in Lagos, during the First Annual Black Tie Gala event organised by the Tristate Heart Foundation (THF), to raise N500 million in support of cardiovascular care in Nigeria, he observed that unhealthy diets contributed significantly to the development of non communicable diseases in Nigeria.

He said,

“Sadly, there is widespread low consumption of proteins, fruits and vegetables and increasing patronage of fast food outlets by the population. There is also large promotion of sweetened products such as carbonated drinks, pastries, candies and other refined sugars, while excessive intake of salt is promoted by food additives such as monosodium glutamate common in delicacies such as suya, kilisi, isi-ewu, ngwo-ngwo, among others.”

He further added that current estimates, show that death rate from stroke is 40-50 per cent within the first three months of diagnoses, while 39 per cent of those who survived stroke after three months died within a year, with 12 per cent developing severe disability, Daily Post reports.

“I can say without fear of contradiction that at least five out of 10 adults seated here tonight have elevated blood pressure and more than half of these are not aware of their situation.

“This is frightening because the dire consequence of neglected hypertension is stroke without warning. Unless we take drastic and sustained actions, we will keep counting losses,” he said.

This is ironical though, asking me not to eat Suya is more or less, like killing me!! And now they’re warning that we shouldn’t eat it?! This is gonna be hard!

Pastor And Wife Gets Killed By Robbers On Their Way Back From Convention. (Photo)

killed-by-robbers

Suspected robbers have killed a pastor and his wife while they were on their way back to Taraba State after the NKST Church World-wide Choir conference held at Jaki, Kwande LGA of Benue State on Friday, Idoma Voice reports.

Speaking to IDOMA VOICE, an eyewitness Iorsalen Terver, said:

“I stopped at Gawa at about 8:14 this morning to buy some foodstuffs, on my way to Bali to buy yams when some young men walked to me saying its better to get the yams in the evening when the market is closing.

Little did I know I was the target. Pushing me to hit the road so they can waste me… Oh God.. The pastor arrived shortly with a Toyota picnic. They bought yams I even helped to negotiate with the seller. We took off the same time before I stopped to excrete. Just seconds we heard gun shots and that was how they wasted this couple”

Ben Dizwa, who confirmed the sad incident, identified the pastor as Mr. Joseph Tsafa, a retired police inspector who was one of the participant from NKST Nachi-Bali Classis in Taraba State.

According to his Facebook post:

“He left the event venue with his wife, Cecilia Tsafa, the woman leader (Kwase-hemen) of NKST Nachi-Bali Consistory women Fellowship, and Atese Anum (a pastor’s wife) on Friday evening for Zakibiam where they stayed through the night. Early this morning,(Saturday) the couple set out for Bali LGA of Taraba State where they are based. In Katsina-Ala, they assisted two women who were heading towards their direction making their number, five in the vehicle.

At about 9am on Saturday morning of 3rd December, 2016, they passed a place called Gidan Gawa along Katsina-Ala —Takum road in Taraba State. There is a portion of road that is terribly bad that vehicles must slow down to avoid accident or damage, so they also slowed down. Strangely, some armed young men came out of the bush and ordered them to stop and they simply obeyed. They came forth and demanded for money from Mr Tsafa.

What really happened that led to a gun shot could not be ascertained by even eye witness but it is thought that the man had no enough money for them having stay away for nearly two weeks which they become annoyed and shot him still on the steering. The bullet shot at the man penetrated and also killed his wife who was seated in the front seat. The remaining three persons who were seated at the back seat were not shot, they were searched and valuables taking away from them. As I write, the corpses of the couple has been deposited at a mortuary in Zakibiam, Ukum LGA.”

Donald Trump Chooses Ben Carson As Housing And Urban Development Secretary.

trump-and-carson

Dr. Ben Carson will be Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the president-elect’s transition team confirmed Monday morning.

“Ben Carson has a brilliant mind and is passionate about strengthening communities and families within those communities,” Mr. Trump said in a statement released by his team.”We have talked at length about my urban renewal agenda and our message of economic revival, very much including our inner cities. Ben shares my optimism about the future of our country and is part of ensuring that this is a Presidency representing all Americans. He is a tough competitor and never gives up.”

Carson heavily hinted at the HUD position in a Facebook post days earlier, writing,

“After serious discussions with the Trump transition team, I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly to making our inner cities great for everyone.”

“I am honored to accept the opportunity to serve our country in the Trump administration,” Carson was quoted as saying in the statement released Monday. “I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly by strengthening communities that are most in need. We have much work to do in enhancing every aspect of our nation and ensuring that our nation’s housing needs are met.”

Carson, who has never held elected office and failed earlier this year in a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, speculated to Fox News before Thanksgiving that Mr. Trump’s consideration for the HUD position was in part due to Carson’s upbringing.

“I grew up in the inner city and have spent a lot of time there, and have dealt with a lot of patients from that area and recognize that we cannot have a strong nation if we have weak inner cities,” he said Tuesday.

The 65-year-old has no previous policy experience in the field of urban development.

Meet This 14 Year Old Nigerian Girl Who Has Written A Book.

21

Unlike some of her mates, who’d rather engage in immoral acts and still share it on social media, this lovely looking lass, has become an author at a very young age.

Fourteen-years-old Chizoba Ekene from Kayode Memorial schools has written a book and has probably become the youngest Nigeria’s author.

The young writer hails from Abia state, Ohafia local government area – a student of Kayode Memorial schools, Ajangbadi, Lagos and she dreams of becoming a journalist in future.

chizoba-ekene

Chizoba was born to the family of Mr and Mrs Ekene, and she is the first child and the only girl with two younger siblings. She is inspired by happenings around her that is her environment.

chizoba-ekene1

Ekene is a young girl that has the enthusiasm towards anything that has to do with writing, though she is a shy girl but loves writing. She can be said to be a young girl with the Midas touch.

Chizoba wrote the book first and foremost because she wants to become a journalist in future and also a writer, so she wrote it because she wants to start putting it in practice so that she won’t lose sight of her dreams and career path and also, because the book passes a message of focus and determination, so she wrote it mainly to remind her that she must be focused and determined no matter the situation. Her environment inspired her to write the book.

chizoba-ekene2

What led to the birth of the book “Life”??

On a faithful Sunday morning when she went to church, her pastor preached on talent using the Bible as a reference, how those who utilized their God’s given talent became fulfilled in life and how those that didn’t use it at all became frustrated. After the message, she took a pen and a paper and got inspired and that was how “LIFE” started.

Her hobbies are writing, singing, but basically, because of her shy attitude, she opted for writing, since it is just her, her pen and her book.

chizoba-ekene3

Her role models are Professor Wole Shoyinka, Chimamanda Adichie. She is currently a member of Young Scholars Club which aims at developing young minds and making them prepared to be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

According to the director of Kayode Memorial Schools, Mr Femi Mega “Education is not just about
the structure but about how young individuals are structured and shaped to be leaders in their various
career paths ,which means the Education of the 21st century should be more of practical connecting the
Classroom to reality which makes a meaning to the Younger generations, and this motivates them to be
positive in their endeavors and we will realize that this will reduce a lot of crimes and negative behavior
in the society, A school which is a very important agent of socialization should be able to discover and
shape the potentials of Young ones and also should be able to prepare them for the future because a
school is meant to be a barrack of sound Knowledge preparing soldiers to effectively fight against
ignorance in the outside world”

“My children don’t look like me, they are fair while I’m dark” – Man cries out in court

A woman, Adenike Oyetoso, has dragged her husband before an Agege Customary court in Lagos State, over allegations of ill-treatment and battery.

Adenike told the court that her husband, Gabriel, was irresponsible and does not cater for her and their two children.

She further added that her six-year-old marriage started having trouble when her husband started a new relationship with their neighbour.

“He started finding fault in everything I do. I became a dirty woman. He even told me that I irritate him anytime he sees me. He suddenly took to beating me and stopped discharging his fatherly duties to our children.

“I tried to reason with him and even reported to his family, but they took sides with him. His mother said that she had consulted a prophet who told her that I was responsible for her son’s misfortune.

“I begged him to forgive me if I had done anything wrong but he said he does not want me or the children again. I am pleading with this court to end this marriage because I am still young and can’t remain married to a man who does not have feelings for me anymore,” she said.

In his response, Gabriel denied the allegations. He told the court that his estranged wife was a good liar who is in an amorous relationship with her former fiance.

“I read messages on her phone and it is obvious that she has rekindled her relationship with him. They even talked about eloping to Osun State and starting a new life. Right now, I even doubt the paternity of our two children because they don’t look like me. We are both dark, while the children are very fair,” he said.

The court adjourned the matter till January 10, 2017 for continuation of hearing.

“MMM is satanic… and if you’re involved in it, you’re demonic” – General Overseer of Omega Ministries, Apostle Suleman says

apostle-johnson-suleman

The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International (OFM), Apostle Johnson Suleman, has told his congregation members to disassociate themselves from anything that has to do with Mavrodi Mondial Movement investment scheme, popularly called MMM.

Suleman said MMM is Satanic and that those involved in it are demonic.

mmm-678x381

Speaking during a church service, the clergyman said:

“Go and check the founder of MMM. He was a fraudster in America; defrauded people, and that’s what you’re involving yourself in and you are a Christian, looking for easy way out. Many Christians have gotten involved. If you are involved in MMM, I have to pray for you today. It’s not of God. Any quick fix way for money is not of God because some people are being defrauded to enrich some other people.”

“Any quick-rich scheme is wrong. In life, everything you get if is not favour from a particular individual. If it’s quick favour through a process, you will pay for it later. If it’s a person you know that walked up to you and blesses you, take it. That’s favour. But a quick business transaction that can bring a return of over 200 person, is not of God.”

“My Husband’s Friend Comes Around Too Much, He Saw Me Naked” – Disturbed Wife Cries Out.

depression

So a disturbed wife who feels there’s an interference between her and husband by his friend, has decided to pour her heart out online. She seeks advice on what to do as she feels so called friend is invading too much of her privacy and marital life.

She writes to Aunty Julie

My husband of two years is very sociable and has many close friends that we meet up with. But he also has a clingy friend who comes to our home every Friday and stays until Sunday afternoon. I am often lying around in very little clothes or feeding our baby.

One morning he bumped into me n*ked in the bathroom. I feel as though my privacy is being invaded. My husband just expects me to chat to him but I am getting angry and we end up having huge fights. If I blame my husband, his friend jumps in and ticks me off… Even on our first anniversary supper this man turned up at the restaurant and joined us for coffee. My husband promises to talk to him but nothing has changed.

He calls my husband every day. This man is nice and he loves our daughter, but I feel as if I am in competition with him for my husband’s attention. How can I stop him?

Her reply from Aunt Julie…

Neither your husband nor his friend are being fair to you. To use Princess Diana’s much quoted phrase, there are three of us in this marriage. No wife would want another man there all weekend, leaving her little time to be with her husband. It is difficult enough to find time to just be a couple when there is a new baby, let alone when there is someone else there all the time. So talk to your husband once more and ask him to tell his friend that you want more time as a couple. It would be fine if came for supper sometimes, but not nearly so frequently.
If your husband does nothing then you should talk to his friend yourself. Explain that you like him but you want more time as a couple. You could offer to find him a girlfriend to keep him occupied.

“I Gave Up My B.Sc Degree For Farming” – Organic Farmer.

lawrence-afere

Lawrence Afere is an organic farmer and founder of Springboard Nigeria, a social enterprise that uses organic farming to create meaningful and responsible work for rural and semi urban youth in Ondo State.

He speaks to Punch’s Kemi Lanre-Aremu about his preference for farming.

What schools did you attend?

I had my secondary school education at Parker International High School, Akure. I studied Business Management at Covenant University, Ota. I also studied Business and Social Entrepreneurship at North Western University, USA; Kanthari International Institute, India, and Do School, Germany. I also studied a course on leadership at the International Institute for Global Leadership, USA.

Why did you decide not to utilise your business management degree?

In 2003, I studied Business Management with the intention to graduate and get a high-paying job. My life changed on November 17, 2006, and this change was triggered by a report in the newspaper about the plight of over 30 million unemployed Nigerian youths. It raised the question, what may happen to the country in 2020 if nothing was done to solve the situation. After reading the report, I became sad and concerned. Immediately, I felt I might someday become a victim of what this report says. And then my perspective shifted from living for myself to finding a way to help the situation and also become self employed. I found myself constantly thinking about this. After graduating from the university in 2007, I returned to my town, Akure, to pursue my dream of helping to create meaningful jobs for unemployed youths.

What spurred your interest in farming and organic food distribution?

In late 2008, I had an idea to start a farm where we would cultivate and sell farm products. I shared my idea with the unemployed young people in my church and five of them showed interest and also invited nine of their friends. A parent, who was interested in our idea, lent us seven plots of farmland at no cost. We named the farm ‘Youth Farm Project’ and 15 of us began to cultivate the land by planting maize. In the process, I realised that there is a relationship between a farming process and entrepreneurship. The farming process provides a practical experience for learning how to become an entrepreneur. The project has given opportunities to unemployed youths to generate some income.

How did you prepare yourself for a career in farming?

I went to several farmers to learn. I brought my uncle, who is a farmer, on board my project. I would ask many questions about farming and spent many days working on the farm with the youth I had recruited. Also, I watched several videos on sustainable farming on YouTube and researched on sustainable agricultural practices online and through site visits within and outside the country.

What are some of the challenges you face and still face?

A major challenge I faced was the perspective of people towards youths in agriculture. If you are a graduate in Nigeria, people expect you to take up a paid job. People, even old farmers, actually believe that farming is for illiterates and people who are marginalised in the society. In 2003, when I just started my studies at Covenant University, if anyone had said to me that I would become a farmer, it would take Bishop David Oyedepo (the Visitor to CU) to actually broker peace between us.

Another challenge I faced was infrastructure like finance, location of farmland, access to and relevant farm tools. Government at all levels have youth farm projects but these are just programmes on paper and not on the ground.

We also faced the challenge of middle men; I mean farmers do the job! We spend hours growing, watering, tendering and harvesting and someone, who has done nothing, comes to buy your harvest with a token and goes to sell and makes 100 per cent profit off it! There is no fair trade in the agric space in Nigeria. Farmers are actually being taken advantage of. Farmers are not well organised in a way that helps them get the best out of their labour.

You are also involved in entrepreneurial training. Tell us about it?

We have the community entrepreneurship programme, where we train youth and women (who are not interested in farming) to start small business and at the end of the training, we give every participant micro credit to start their business. This is between N20,000 and N100,000. Also, we help them scale it up when they finish paying the first loan. Right now, we have set up over 15 community cooperatives in over 10 communities in Akure, who we have supported with this project. We have over 90 per cent repayment rate and women especially do not default.

How many people have you trained so far and what is your current staff strength?

We have trained over 500 people under the Springboard youth farm training. And we currently have over 500 farmers under our network. We have a total of 25 staff working with us full and part-time.

What kind of personal and professional skills have you deployed to be successful?

The core of my work has to do with communicating with our farmers, community entrepreneurs, community people and leaders, customers, staff and partners. I have used the communication and leadership skills I have learnt in the last 10 years to have a smooth relationship at all levels. Working with people is the most difficult thing in the world. However, I try my best to communicate my intentions in the best way I can, so we can get positive results that benefit all parties.

How do you stay abreast of the latest trends and technological advancements in agriculture?

I attend relevant conferences and workshops. I also read relevant articles and books. Partnership is also important. We have strategic partners.

What advice can you give to youths out there who want to take to farming?

Do not go into farming if you are looking for quick money! Farmers are patient people who believe that hard work, directed in the right and positive direction, will always pay off. Farmers know that you do not sow and reap in the same season. If you want to build a lifetime career in agric, then start it and you will be surprised the level of success that you attain.

What are those things you gave up in order to become successful?

I gave up my BSc certificate for the sake of my dream. I could use the certificate to get a good job. I actually graduated with a 3.45 CGP. This could land me in some comfortable job in the city. Daily, I also give up personal interest and instant gratification for the overall success of my organisation. I have travelled to several countries of the world and could decide to also get a job outside the country with the level of connections and contacts I have built from my travels. However, Nigeria needs dynamic young people (who have vision and are sincere) to make things work in the country and help take the country to great heights. I believe I am one of those who will transform Nigeria.

Fraudsters Hack E-mail, Defraud Estate Agent Of N4m. (Photo)

the-suspects-internet-fraudsters

Three suspected Internet fraudsters have been apprehended by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defrauding an estate agent of about N4m.

The suspects– Olisa Oyegbuka, 28; Ifeannacho Kingsley, 27; and Ujumwa Aniemena, 33, according to Punch Metro, had allegedly hacked into the email of an unnamed client of the estate agent.

They allegedly sent a message from the email to the agent, demanding the transfer of funds kept for the client by the estate agent into some accounts.

The fraud was later discovered after the owner of the account received alerts and subsequently called the agent to demand explanation for the flight of funds from his account.

The case was reported to operatives of the Rapid Response Squad which launched a manhunt for the suspects. Punch correspondent gathered that the three suspects were arrested in Awka, Anambra State.

It was learnt that the suspects were part of a syndicate that specialised in hacking into email addresses and using them to send messages seeking transfer of funds in tranches to different accounts.

The estate agent, who did not want to be identified, said,

“The owner of the email account is my client. I received an email giving instruction to transfer funds in my custody to an account belonging to one Emmanuel Ajinubi.

I transferred N800,000 to the account on October 24, 2016. On October 27, 2016, there was another instruction to transfer N530,000 to the same account, which I did.

On November 1, 2016, I transferred N720,000 to another account belonging to one Ifenancho Kingsley.

I received further instruction the following day to pay N850,000 to the same account. The total amount transferred to the two accounts was N3, 820,000.

On November 2, 2016, my client called me and that was when we realised that the payment instructions did not emanate from him; rather, they were from fraudsters.”

One of the suspects, Kingsley, admitted that two separate transactions of N720,000 and N850,000 were paid to his account.

He, however, explained that a family friend, Chinedu Emmanuel, had requested his account details and took his Automated Teller Machine card and Personal Identification Number to withdraw the money.

“The first alert of N720, 000 that I got on my phone was withdrawn from my account within a twinkling of an eye.

The following day, I got another alert of N850,000. And almost instantly, there were lots of POS transactions bearing ‘Grand POS’ Asaba. Since then, I have not seen him and I don’t know the kind of job he does. As I talk to you, my ATM card is still with him,” he added.

Another suspect, Oyegbuka, said his friend, Egbuka, who was arrested by the RRS a few weeks earlier, used his (Oyegbuka) account to transfer N800,000 to another account belonging to one Tamino.

RRS investigators said efforts were on to arrest fleeing members of the gang.

20 year old passenger arrested for killing an okada rider….because of N50 change

klls

Abdulrahman Muhammed, has thrown the family of a commercial motorcyclist, Owechu Odeje, 25, into mourning after he allegedly slit the okada rider’s throat, Punchng reports.

Owechu was taking Muhammed from Ijaba junction to Ijaba Pipeline, in Ogun State, when the latter reportedly killed him and fled with the motorcycle, leaving him in a pool of blood.

Muhammed, who spoke in Hausa, told the police that argument over N50 change led to a scuffle between him and Owechu, during which he stabbed the victim. He said, “When I reached my destination, I gave him N200 and asked for N50 change.

He said my fare was N200 and refused to give me change. As we were exchanging words, he slapped me. He removed the knife from my pocket and we started struggling. I managed to collect it and stabbed him. I didn’t mean to kill him.”

It took the intervention of the community leaders and a police team, to douse the tension that ensued after Owechu’s killing. A rider, said, “For two days, Hausa traders around the park could not open shops because the other residents were angry.

The Hausa leader, baales within communities in Iyesi and the DPO had to come to the park to pacify us.”

Confused Mother Throws Epileptic Son’s Corpse Into Cesspit In Lagos.

kayode-corpse-in-cesspit

The police in Lagos State have reportedly arrested a woman, Mrs. Bosede Adekunle, for allegedly dumping the corpse of her son, Kayode, in a cesspit in the Baruwa area of Ipaja.

According to Punch Metro, the decomposing remains of the 34-year-old were found on Saturday, November 26, five days after he was dumped in the cesspit.

It was gathered that Kayode had been sick for some time and had remained indoors under the care of the widowed mother and two sisters. The publication was told that the victim later gave up the ghost under a circumstance that was not clear.

The mother was reported to have taken the corpse and dumped in the cesspit in the community. However, the stench from the corpse was said to have caught the attention of a resident who, after searching, found the body and raised the alarm.

Residents were said to have recovered the remains from the cesspit. A resident, Bode Osas, said a mob attacked the suspect before the intervention of policemen from the Ipaja division who whisked her away to the station.

He said,

“The man had epilepsy and he had been sick for some time. He was said to have died last Tuesday night. After he died, she and her two children dumped his corpse in a cesspit behind their house.

The mistake they, however, made was that they didn’t know that the cesspit was shallow and almost filled up with faeces. The odour of the corpse filled the area and five days after, the body was discovered.”

Another resident, who did not want to be identified, said Kayode died from the sickness, adding that the mother was confused on what to do with his corpse and dumped him in the cesspit.

“She is a widow and she didn’t know what to do when her son died, so she dumped the corpse in the cesspit. There was a lot of crowd in the community when the corpse was discovered. Some people mobbed her before the police intervened,” he added.

The officials of the Ipaja Local Government Area and the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit were contacted. The residents were, however, reported to have removed the corpse before the arrival of the government emergency workers.

When the area was visited it was observed that the victim was buried opposite his mother’s mud house, which was locked up. The Baale of Ishaga Olaogun community, who did not identify himself, said the suspect had been banished from the community, adding that the case was with the police.

He said,

“We don’t want this case to escalate beyond this and that is why I won’t say anything to you. Sanity has been restored to our community and the woman that committed the crime has been banished along with her children. She is in police custody.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing.

She said:

“The decomposing corpse of a man, Kayode Adekunle, was discovered in a cesspit at Adekunle Compound, Baruwa, Ipaja. It was later discovered that the corpse was dumped there by the mother, Mrs. Bosede Adekunle. Kayode was an epileptic patient and he had fallen sick for some time before he died. Local government health officials were contacted for evacuation, while the case is under investigation.”

Woman arrested for scalding 10 year old househelp with hot water to wake him up from sleep

boiling

One Ms Uduak was arrested and charged to Calabar Magistrates Court on Monday, November 28th for allegedly pouring boiling water on the face of 10-year-old boy, Daniel Okon Nse in an attempt to wake him up from sleep.

It was gathered that on Thursday, November 24th, at about 5:30AM, the 29-year-old suspect poured boiling water on Nse, causing severe burns and injuries on the child’s face and arm. Mr. Emmanuel Agan who is a neighbour to the accused, noticed the grave injuries on the child on Friday 25th November, 2016 and immediately reported to Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, a front line child rights organization in Calabar.

The organization immediately reported the case to the police and they arrested the perpetrator. The young boy, who is from Uruan in Akwa Ibom State said his dad is late. Until last September, Nse was a pupil of PCN Primary School, Akim, Calabar but stopped going to school after he was asked to repeat primary 3. His mother, a crayfish seller had given him out to live as house boy to one Madam Ime. According to CrossRiverWatch:

“The said Madam Ime is a food vendor (popularly known as “Mama Put”) at No. 7C, Etta Agbor Road, Calabar and on the fateful day of the incident, Daniel could not wake up on time to wash dishes when Ime’s eldest daughter (the accused) woke him up by pouring boiling water on his face.

Basic Rights Counsel Initiative had provided medical care to Nse and written to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Social Welfare seeking temporary accommodation for the child, and the Ministry has promptly responded by placing the child in a government facility where he is now being kept pending when his biological parents/relatives can be traced

The Magistrate was said to be infuriated with the manner at which Ms. Monday responded to questions as her bail application was been heard, therefore turned down the application, remanded her in Afokang prison until the next adjourned date, Sunday 9th December, 2016.

Nigerian University Dumps Hundreds of Students’ Projects In The Trash

project1

This viral photo seen above has caused quite a stir online. The photo shows a collection of ‘Final Year University projects’ being dumped inside a rubbish bin.

The photo was shared on Facebook by one Dr Raphael James, who was furious with the unnamed institution that had the nerve to discard academic works of research in such a horrible manner.

Although the particular school to have done this is not known yet, social media users have joined James in slamming it for the act.

Below is what James wrote on Facebook.

He wrote: “In your final year in the university it is compulsory you write a ‘final year project’ which is a test of your ability to do research.

“You are to formulate hypothesis, review related literatures, sometimes you do interviews, surveys and other research techniques, which may include both present and historical information.

“The result of your research work can be used for further research works either to support it or to disagree with it. Most university undergraduates today, don’t even bother to do a proper research work , they copy from old projects and change the identity of the owners. That is by the way.

“Look at this photo, posted by Franklin Okechukwu Onwubiko. For a university, an academic institution to throw away the project findings of her finale year students, this is the end of education in Nigeria.

“Why go to school, why do research if it will not be used to benefit the society?

“I am appealing pls any university that wants to throw away things like this should donate it to CRIMMD Library, we will be glad to keep the rubbish.”
