The parents of two abducted sisters – Chikamso Okpara aged two, and four-year-old Chinaza Okpara – say they have not heard any positive news from the police about the kids’ whereabouts since their abduction on May 14, 2016.
They said they had explored all avenues to trace the abductor, identified only as Rose, to no avail and urged the police to ensure that their children were rescued safely.
Rose reportedly fled with the children around 12pm penultimate Saturday shortly after their mother, Ijeoma Okpara, left the shop to buy foodstuffs at a market – a few metres away from the shop on Cemetery Street, in the Ajegunle area of the state.
The incident happened four days after Rose enrolled as an apprentice hairdresser.
Ijeoma, a stylist, had left the children in the care of Rose and a resident, Franca, only to return 15 minutes later and discover that Rose had fled with the kids.
Her husband, Emeka Okpara, told PUNCH Metro on Thursday that except the assurance he received from his pastor that the kids were safe, the police had yet to give the family any positive development after the incident was reported at the Ajeromi Police Division.
He said:
“We have searched for them. We have made reports and people have helped us to circulate their pictures on the social media. We have been told by men of God that the children are safe and are being kept within the state by the apprentice. We pray every day for their protection and safe return.
“I spoke with the policeman investigating the case. He said no progress yet and that I should be prayerful. I don’t know the mode of their operation, but they should make more efforts to rescue them. Those are the only children we have. I am very disturbed and it has been difficult handling my emotion and that of my wife. Nobody has contacted us for ransom so far.”
The distraught wife, Ijeoma, said she was surprised that the apprentice could abduct her children.
She said:
“The shop is in front of our house and is owned by a woman. I only work there to assist the owner. On Tuesday, May 10, Rose came and said she wanted to learn hairdressing. I told her to come back as the owner of the shop that will decide on her acceptance was not around. She begged me to allow her start immediately, saying she was idle at home. I eventually accepted after much pleading.
“The customer I was making hair for on that Saturday said she wanted to pick something at home, so I had to take a break. I decided to quickly go to the market to buy foodstuffs. The market is near the shop and I didn’t spend more than 15 minutes before I returned.
“On getting to the shop, Franca said Rose went with my children to buy something immediately I left. I became apprensive when she did not return early and that was how we began to search for her and the kids. We went to Turner Street which she gave as her address, but we could not find her.”
The Lagos State Police Command, however, said it was on the trail of the apprentice and promised to get her arrested.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos said, “The police are on the trail of the abductor. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the children and apprehend the culprit.”

It’s pretty common sense. He knows. He knows he cannot do it on his own. he’s only two, and she’s a lot of work. I just wanted a nanny in place when she was with him, and it be agreed upon. It’s not like I was just going to throw anybody in there, it was something that we would agree, and this was what it was going to be, and then we go forth.

A Saudi man has been apprehended after he shot a male obstetrician, arguing that he had no right to assist his wife’s delivery and that a woman gynecologist should have been around.
Dr Muhannad Al Zabn, who has a Jordanian father and a Saudi mother, delivered the baby one month ago at the King Fahad Medical City in the Saudi capital Riyadh.
The man, who has not been named, is believed to have wanted a female doctor to deliver the baby and was upset that the male doctor would have seen his wife naked.
According to media reports, the father went to the hospital and told the doctor he wanted to see him to thank him for helping his wife with the delivery of the baby, Saudi news site Sabq reported on Thursday.
The two met in the garden of the hospital and during the conversation, the shooter took out a gun he had concealed under his clothes and fired at the doctor.
As the Saudi father fled the scene, medics rushed the victim to the emergency department then to the intensive care unit. The shooter was later arrested by the police.
Bassam Al Buraikan, the spokesperson for the hospital confirmed the incident, saying that a doctor was shot and that his condition was now stable.

In a recent interview with Pulse Nigeria, Nollywood actress, and filmmaker, Doris Simeon talks about the most challenging part of her career as an actress and mother.
According to the actress, she just had a baby and went on set to produce and play two roles at the same time while her baby was only a few months old. Unfortunately, she lost her father at almost the same time while trying to handle all of these.
Doris Simeon is an award-winning Yoruba and English actress. She was born and raised in Lagos. The actress came to the spotlight in 2001, in a movie entitled Oloju Ede.
She is popular for her roles in movies such as “Oloju Ede”, “Alakada”, “Onitemi”, “Ten Million Naira”, “Modupe Temi”, “Silence”among others.
According to Doris, this most challenging experience happened when she was producing the movie “Omo Iya Kan,” which was directed by her ex-husband, Daniel Ademinnokan, who is now married to Stella Damasus.
“It was when I did “Omo Iya Kan. I was producing, playing two characters in a movie, and I just had my baby who was just 3 months then, and I just lost my dad,” she said. So, it was kind of challenging, but then, it all went well.”
Doris Simeon graduated from the PEFTI Film Institute, where she studied production management. She then featured in three episodes of the Papa Ajasco comedy series.
Back to singlehood, Doris Simeon now focuses on her child and movie career. Although she once had a fight with Stella Damasus for snatching her man, the actress cum director has moved on with her life as there are over 1 billion single men on earth from which she can always find another husband.

Consequently, she left the office and descended to the stairs where she left her bag. There, she wrote the suicide note and brought out a container containing Sniper insecticide. She left her mobile phone, charger, suicide note, her bag and the container under the staircase. She was rushed to the hospital where she died.”

In an amnesty published in Government Gazette No 36, general notice 85/2016, Mugabe pardoned all convicted female prisoners regardless of offences, with the exception of a few serving life sentences.
“A full remission of remaining imprisonment is, hereby, granted to all female prisoners regardless of offences committed, save for those sentenced to life imprisonment and to death,” part of the order reads.
Chikurubi Female Prison, which was home to 246 prisoners, released 139 inmates yesterday.
Some of the prisoners were due to serve lengthy jail terms for murder, fraud and armed robbery.
Those who remained behind are inmates still on remand and a few foreigners, who will be released to their respective governments.
Mosline Chakamufuna (25), who was sentenced two weeks ago to 10 years in prison for murdering her child, was one of the beneficiaries of the presidential pardon.
She joins Adlaidy Murombo (21), who was jailed for 10 years in 2014 for attempted murder, after striking her uncle with an iron bar in the eye.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) acting public relations officer, Superintendent Priscilla Mthembo said more than 2 000 inmates were likely to benefit from the latest presidential pardon.
“We don’t have the total figure at the moment because the verification process is still going on, but we expect over 2 000 prisoners to be released under the amnesty order issued by the President,” she said.
For male prisoners, Mugabe pardoned all those who are under the age of 18 regardless of offences committed, and those over the age of 60, who have served two-thirds of their prison terms and all inmates in open prison.
Terminally-ill prisoners, who were unlikely to survive their prison terms, were fully pardoned regardless of offences.
At Chikurubi Farm Prison, there was still uncertainty, as prison officers were still compiling names of beneficiaries, particularly those jailed for stocktheft, who have served a third of their sentence.
The officer-in-charge of the male prison, Superintendent Tonderai Magwaza, said so far, he had vetted 190 prisoners, who would be released.
Male inmates convicted of murder, rape, armed robbery and treason were not part of those pardoned.
The jail, which has a holding capacity of 560 inmates, currently has 681 prisoners.
Mthembo said the amnesty had the effect of decongesting the 46 prisons around the country, which were currently overpopulated by nearly 16%.
Currently, the correctional facilities have a population of 19 900 inmates, although their total holding capacity is just 17 000.

Thus, as part of the birthday gift gave Bruno a cheque of N1 million that an old man like that should not be subjected to public spectacle for assistance. He also promised to see what else he can do to assist him after recovery.
When we spoke to Bruno, he confirmed the story saying he was not surprised when the clergy gave him the cheque for Martin’s treatment. He said he was responsible for his own upkeep too during his health challenges.
