A high school senior who passed away before receiving her yearbook received a heartfelt memorial from her classmates.
Laura Hillier, an 18-year-old from Burlington, Canada, had been battling acute myeloid leukemia for years when she died on Jan. 20. Although she never had the opportunity to graduate high school or receive her yearbook, her classmates came together to provide a touching yearbook-style tribute.
An image of Laura’s coffin was shared by one of her classmates on Imgur, which showed handwritten notes from friends similar to those traditionally written in yearbooks.
Laura had been waiting for years to receive a stem cell transplant as a cancer treatment. Finally, in July she learned that there were multiple donors available, but a hospital bed shortage placed Laura on a waiting list even though she had a donor match, CTV News reports.
Laura’s family attempted to find another hospital to complete her surgery, but found waitlists across Canada. An operation in the United States would have cost upwards of $250,000. In August 2015, Laura finally received her hospital bed and underwent surgery, only for her cancer to return in November.
Laura then ended up in intensive care but she was able to leave the unit on January 1. Her family was excited and hopeful for the future.
Laura was supposed to go to City of Hope, a hospital in California for additional treatment on Jan. 18, but was unable to travel due to medical complications the day prior. She died later that week and her funeral service was held on Jan. 30.

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, founder of Mount Zion, a popular Christian drama ministry with such blockbusters as ‘Agbara Nla’, took to Facebook earlier to celebrate his wife, Gloria on her birthday yesterday, February 4, 2016 with a beautiful and heartfelt letter.
He gave us an account of the marriage proposal and the astonishing way she accepted it.
See the letter below:
I write to Celebrate my Dear “Sister Gloria” today…
The day I went to propose to her, I never beat about the bush or rehearsed any Love persuasive Poem. I never said anything like, “…the Lord sent me” or ” I felt the Lord is leading me…” Or ” I dreamed and saw…” Or “I heard a voice from Heaven that…” I had said some of those things before to some sisters whom I thought the Lord was leading me to, and I was wrong. This time around, I went to this new sister, after my usual “Much Prayers and Waiting”. I was not even sure if the Lord was leading me or not again….My computers have been crashed and the memory virused by the previous disappointments I had met from the sisters I had thought were the will of God.
So I had arrived the campus and the brethren were happy to see me. I usually came at evening time, for Drama rehearsals or if there were drama outreaches, I would come to go with them or lead them to the programs. But this time, I came during the day, at lecture time and many of the brethren were coming to me to know why or what information I had brought for the Fellowship Drama Unit members. I simply said I came to see “Sister Shola”. And that was unusual of me. I don’t come asking for sisters in the fellowship. I had no business with sisters, but with Fellowship heads and with Drama Unit Co-Ordinator in particular or with the Fellowship President.
So, some brethren spread out to look for “Sister Shola”. And one sister found her in the school Library and grabbed her hand: “Bro. Mike is around. He is looking for you.” Prior to that time, I had no business with Sister Shola, we were not close. We had only acted together on stage presentations before. She was not among the sisters who were closer to me at Fellowship. She carried her books and both sisters were rushing down to see ” Bro. Mike” who had come to the campus at unusual time. The sister brought her and left.
Sister Shola stood before me smiling, and waiting for the instructions, probably to the Drama Unit, or information of a her being cast into a new Drama Unit presentation. I greeted her. She replied with a smile. I told her bluntly, that the Holy Spirit had not sent me, neither did I see any vision.
Then, I asked her: WILL YOU MARRY ME?”
She stood before me speechless for some minutes, looking at me with some astonishment and confusion. She was never never expecting to hear such question from “Bro. Mike” of all people! She was lost for words, because it was the last thing she would expect to hear from me.
I got my answer after one month of waiting. It was on a Sunday Morning. I had travelled to ILESHA and decided to worship in her church. I was in the congregation while I watch her standing tall and slender above the rest choir as they sang the special song for the morning. I never knew she saw me too. I had been praying for the whole month that the Lord would confirm this one this time. I could not imagine how I would feel if the Lord said this one was not the will of God again.
After the church service, I went to wait for her at the front of her house. I just wanted to greet her again and look at her again, and maybe the Lord would answer my prayers this time. She came not so long and ushered me into the house quietly. She was quiet. She was not showing any excitement, which got me more worried again. I sat down on a chair while she was writing something on the table. Then, she finished writing, and she turned to me with a small piece of paper containing ONE SINGLE LINE OF SENTENCE:
“I WILL MARRY YOU”
Silence. Grave Silence came down in the room. At last. That was the first time in my life, a lady would agree to marry me. All the once I thought were the will of God for me had, unfortunately, been engaged before I got there. Oh! The Dilemma of a Single Searching Brother! And one of the Sisters even kept me waiting for three years, without giving me a “Yes” or a “No”. Until I was delivered from the shackles. At last…!
Right there I knelt down in Prayers and she knelt down in my front with her eyes closed. There, I told the Lord, as I held her hands in prayer, that, “Today, Lord, our Ministry have started. Today, Lord, we shall serve you together with all our life and with all our heart.” We prayed further for His help and Mercy upon us. That was day and time, our ministry, Mount Zion began.
Veteran Nigerian cinematographer turned filmmaker, Tade Ogidan‘s account of Kunle Afolayan’s current film project, The CEO, has indicated that another blockbuster movie is about to come out of Nigeria.
Conveying his impression via a private message sent to the younger award-winning filmmaker on Thursday, Tade Ogidan said:
‘I woke up quite excited about the storytelling strength and the creative and technical qualities in the CEO movie. You have done your dad proud with each new project. You have done your family proud. You have done your industry proud. You have done your fore bearers in the film industry proud. You will do your nation and the rest of Africa proud, especially with this new project, CEO. I am sincerely proud of you.’
OGD as he is fondly called inked his excitement, after seeing a rough cut of the pan-African film at Afolayan’s studio on Bayo Kuku street, Ikeja, Lagos, praising the courage of the filmmaker in the face of the challenges confronting the Nigerian film industry.
He said:
‘You are now like a bull that has charged into a chinaware shop of film obstacles. You demolish all the myths, fears and filmmaking challenges with insane dare, grit and unstoppable determination. Now, that is good. God will always make all good things doable for you.’
Ogidan expressed similar love to Afolayan when the latter signed a deal with Air France as the airline’s Brand Ambassador. OGD was so excited for Kunle, that he didn’t just call to congratulate the young filmmaker, but staged a surprised soiree in his Surulere home, inviting other celebrities to a cake cutting, as they toasted to the feat recorded by his younger colleague.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye, on Thursday said the state had recorded the first case of Lassa fever.
Ipaye said this during a press conference held at Oke Mosan in Abeokuta, thestate capital.
He identified the index case in the state as a 28-year-old lady, “discovered on Wednesday February 3 at 8:10pm.”
Ipaye said the victim had travelled to Ebonyi for a burial and returned to Ogun on January 15, and later started manifesting the symptoms of the viral disease.
He said,
“The victim had accessed treatment at Ruby Medical Centre, Ota. She was said to have been moved another hospital, Central Specialist Hospital, Ota. It was the management of the Central Specialist Hospital that called the state Ministry of Health.”
“We moved in immediately and took her in. We have shut the two health facilities for decontamination.”
Ipaye said the victim had been transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, one of the isolation centres for the disease.
He added,
“The confirmatory test was done and the result came in last night. We started emergency procedures immediately and she has been moved to the isolation centre in Sagamu.
“She has been given the drug, ribavirin and still under observation. She has had fever and other symptoms but have not started bleeding.
“She has passed through two private hospitals, which have now been shut for decontamination.”
Ipaye also said 60 persons who had contact with the victim in the two health facilities including three members of her family were under watch.
He said the first 35 contacts were health workers in the first hospital, 22 in the second one and three others were family members of the victim.
He said,
“These 60 people have been placed under surveillance, but I want to appeal to the residents not to panic. They must be vigilant and maintain good hygiene in their homes.”
Ipaye commended the management of the Central Specialist Hospital for its patriotism in contacting the government and saving the state from the scourge of Lassa fever.
The state government had on Tuesday January 26, raised the alarm on 19 suspected cases of the Lassa fever who had contact with the first index case in Ahmadiyyah Hospital, Ijaiye in Ojokoro Local Government Area of Lagos but live in Ogun State.
Ipaye, however, said all the 19 persons have been declared free of the disease, “because they did not manifest the symptoms of the disease, not even of malaria fever.”

Refusing to let her illness stop her living her life, brave Emma has now written a bucket list.

Emma says she been bowled over by the public’s support.
She told the Manchester Evening News :
“I want to say thank you to every single person who has shared and donated towards my go fund me page.
“I can’t even begin to explain how grateful I am and how much I appreciate every single donation.
“This means that I can make some amazing memories with all of my family and friends and I can’t wait to share photos with all of the people who have supported me over the past six years.”
In the past five years, the 17-year-old has relapsed six times and undergone 18 operations to tackle tumours in her legs, lungs and ribs.
Before Christmas, Emma, along with her mum Cheryl and sister Danni were told the that her cancer had returned.

She added said:
“We’ve lived in Cheadle all our lives and Emma is loved by so many and this has really proved just how amazing she is.
“She’s touched so many hearts and now we have complete strangers donating huge amounts of people, people who don’t know us but want to make her dreams come true. “It’s mind-blowing.”
Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie, might not be having marital issues as widely sniffed but a friend of hers who is currently having a bad time in her relationship.
With the high rate at which some couples cheat on each other, the actress feels it is time for the ladies especially to be on the watchout as to what their guys are doing behind them.
She warned ladies that they should not allow their man who does not even care about them to have control over their lives because once they die; the same man will bring in another woman to her grave site.
According to her, “Do not allow your boyfriend, lover, husband, or your love one that does not care about you have control over you, if you die, he will bring another girlfriend or wife to your burial, but if he cares so much about you that he would die for you to live keep him, A friend of mine is a victim, the guy is so quarrelsome, fights like he cares, but when she was sick her Guy doesn’t even care, he was just busy gallivanting.”
Yeah, at First you’ll Think she’s one Hot Black Chick. .and then you look again! Well.
According to reports, the lady pictured above was once a man. .So Dear Married women, this person used to be a man, she’s a transgender-woman. .Just incase you catch her with your husband in bed, or you prolly see her on a date with your husband, just run and confront your husband later at home.
Don’t every try to fight her, she’s still got her man muscles. Lol
The lady pictured above was accused of snatching her best friend’s boyfriend and secretly went ahead to marry him.
Recall the friend who made the wild allegation, posted some private snapshots to back up her claims.
But the wife, Rume, has come out with details of what happened. Read her own side of the story…
“I’m Rume and this is my official statement;
People have accused me for being guilty by changing acct name and making my posts private! In just 2 hours a reputation I had “tried” to build all my life seemed to be shattering right before me lol. It’s a painful thing that @fashioncraftbyeve feels so hurt that she had to go this far.
Love hurt is never easy to bear and for that fact I say sorry for whatever you are going through! I am deeply hurt with everything and the insults but people should really know the truth before slandering a human being… the last time I spoke with @fashioncraftbyeve on phone, she apologised for bad-mouthing me to my fiancé (so that he would call off the wedding) and yet here we are again! .
I haven’t had the courage to even talk to my fiance because I can’t help but be angry with all this (but if you knew the truth you would know that he did nothing wrong except be a gentleman and try to not hurt her ‘supposed’ feelings and quite frankly he didn’t owe her any explanation!)
I have seen all his attempts to reply every slander and vindicate me but honestly this has proven unnecessary and hey! One day day we would look back and be like ‘remeber when we had to go tru that experience and remeber how we divinely overcame it and became stronger?’ Because the truth is seeing him go tru all the terror and torment from last night till this morning has made me love him more.
And those who have known me these past years especially in the last 2 to 3 years would know that yes! I am freaked by Jesus and his words and one especially comes to mind with all these that has happened; Psalm 109 and its content is my REPLY to all I have been accused of and this has given me strength to speak up.”
26-year-old Justin Smith was walking home from his local bar in Tresckow, Pennsylvania last February when he blacked out and ended up lying unconscious in the snow.
His father, Don Smith, found him the next morning and called the emergency services. When paramedics arrived they took it that Justin was dead.
But he was taken to hospital where doctors thought he could still be revived. Using a procedure usually used to save patients whose lungs and heart are damaged by a heart attack, doctors revive Justin.
He lost all his toes and his little fingers on both hands from frostbite but he has no lasting neurological damage.
Justin Smith doesn’t remember much of his survival story, but his family, friends and doctors do, and they’re still amazed it’s not an obituary.
Justin looked frozen solid the morning when his father found him near Tresckow Road, in Tresckow. Don Smith believed his only son was dead. Justin was lying “life-less” in a foot of snow, his blue eyes open and empty, his face purple, his body rigid.
He likely had been there overnight as the temperatures plunged to a frigid -4 degrees F. He had no pulse and wasn’t breathing; he showed no signs of life.
His fathered had cried, saying “I held him and sobbed, ‘Justin, don’t leave me’. Then I called his mother and told her, ‘Justin’s dead.'”
Justin’s dad, mum and the rest of their family are so so happy he’s back to live.
American actor, Chris Rock is on the cover of Essence magazine for the very first time as he gets featured in their annual Hollywood Marcy Issue.
The actor talks about the diversity in Hollywood, his second go at hosting the Oscars, and roles for Black women in Hollywood.
See excerpts below.
On the Oscars: I’m going to do my best. It could go horribly wrong. Don’t ever think that it can’t. That’s when it goes wrong—when you don’t think there’s any chance of it going wrong. If you know it won’t, it probably won’t.
On the challenges facing Black actresses in Hollywood: “I’ve never done a movie, any movie, the silliest movie, where someone, some studio person hasn’t gone, ‘Does the girl have to be Black?’ It happens every time. Black women get paid less than everybody in Hollywood. Everybody’s talking about Jennifer Lawrence. Talk to Gabrielle Union. If you want to hear stories, talk to Nia Long. Talk to Kerry Washington. They would love to get to Jennifer Lawrence’s place, or just be treated with the same amount of respect.
On black women getting fewer roles in Hollywood: I think everything I’ve ever done has had a significant role for a Black or brown woman. I refuse not to. I’ve never gone into battle without a Black woman, you know, a movie battle. With Tichina Arnold in Everybody Hates Chris, I had to fight for Tichina. I’m not even going to tell you who the network wanted. She’s literally as good as Tina Fey or Julia Louis-Dreyfus or any of these chicks. They’re like, ‘Tichina who’?’
38yrs old Oye-Lowo Ayediran Ajanaku was brutally stabbed to death early on Tuesday morning by his wife, Yewande Ayediran (nee Fatoki) at their home in Akobo estate, Ibadan after a domestic dispute.
According to reports, Yewande, a lawyer and a staff of Directorate of Public Prosecution at the Ministry of Justice, Ibadan, is also the daughter of one Honorable Fatoki and had been married to Ayediran for three years without a child.
On Monday night, she heard her husband had a son outside wedlock.
When the dispute between the couples started that night, Yewande had earlier stabbed Ayediran on his shoulder; the landlord had interfered and had settled the dispute and Ayediran had been taken to the hospital where his wound was stitched. Thereafter, he went home to sleep.
However, at the early hours of Tuesday morning while he was still sleeping due to the effect of the drugs he had taken, his wife again reportedly slaughtered him and locked the door refusing to call for help and ignoring his weak plea for help.
After a while, reports say his aggrieved wife called on the Landlady who upon response saw him in the pool of his own blood. He died few minutes later.
Ayediran’s corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.
Yewande is presently detained at the state CID Iyaganku, Ibadan. She was taken too the house where she had allegedly killed her husband on Thursday afternoon by the police for on-sight investigation:
Sources say her family are trying to use their influence to suppress the case.
