Following reports that state governors claim they can not afford to keep paying the 18,000 minimum wage, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday warned that attempts by the governors through the Governors’ Forum to renege on the N18,000 national minimum wage was an open declaration of war against the Nigerian workers.
NLC, in a statement by its factional President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, told the governors to prepare for war and organised labour would have no alternative than to mobilize to respond appropriately to this act of aggression by the political class on workers’ welfare.
The statement reads in part:
“The Nigeria Labour Congress is shocked by the statement credited to the chairman of the Governors Forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari, that the N18,000 national minimum wage promulgated into law in 2011 was no longer sustainable because of the fall in the price of crude oil. The governor, who was speaking on behalf of his colleagues at the end of a meeting of the forum, also claimed that the national minimum wage was ‘imposed’.
“We wish to make it abundantly clear that this attempt to reverse the national minimum wage is a declaration of war against the working people of this country, and we would have no alternative than to mobilize to respond to this act of aggression by the political class on our welfare.
“For us in the Nigeria Labour Congress, we know as a fact that ability to pay minimum wages is not the problem of the economy. What is the problem for states and other tiers of government is the amount many political office holders and their unproductive aides take away as wages. For the private sector, the greed to accumulate more and more profit is also always a motivating factor to keep wages down.

Few days after Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka said he would support pro-Biafran agitators only if “their sponsors take the lead in any protest,” the General Overseer of Mount Zion Faith Global Liberation Ministries (a.k.a By Fire By Fire), Nnewi, Anambra State, Rt. Rev. Bishop Abraham Chris Udeh has called on Catholic Bishops to call the fiery priest to order.
Bishop Udeh said Fr. Mbaka was dancing to the dictates of those he described as the ememies of the Igbos who also allegedly sponsored him to work against his Igbo brothers.
He claimed that Fr. Mbaka allegedly worked against former President Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 general elections leading to his loss, claiming he had started to work against the actualization of Biafra.
He said:
“It appears you people (the media) are afraid to tell Mbaka the truth. Why should he be working against Igbo interest and everybody will keep quiet. Even the Catholic Bishops do not want to call him to order. He is not talking prophetically. Is the Buhari he projected to succeed Jonathan working for the interest of Ndigbo? Can’t we reason? That is the question we should ask ourselves”,
He noted that Fr. Mbaka would live to see Biafra stand. The bishop said he will continue to support the agitation until the Igbo marginalization was addressed.
He lambasted some Igbo leaders for keeping quiet over the arrest and continued detention of the Director of Radio Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu “because they are contented with their political positions and the crumbs from the table in Abuja.”
He said those politicians were only after their own pockets and not the interest of the Igbos.

A Nairobi, Kenya based woman, Pauline Njeri Nganga, is in all sorts of trouble after it was revealed that she beat up her six-year-old son so bad and even used a hot iron to scald and disfigure him, Nairobi News reports.
The woman, according to the report, has remained bitter since she separated from the boy’s father and has been taking her frustrations out on the kid, assaulting him repeatedly leading to the child’s trauma.
Neighbours who live with Nganga at her Kahawa West area, say she has been beating up her son to the extent of the six year-old boy missing school often, after moving to the neighbourhood when she separated from her husband two years ago.
To lend credence to the report, Child Rights activist in that country, Diana Okello, shared the photo of the abused child on her Facebook page, with the scars looking very fresh.
A neighbour who witnessed the assault of the poor boy said Nganga came home drunk the night she brutalized the boy.
According to the neighbour, Nganga often comes home drunk and screams to her young son for not cooking supper.
“The mother (Ms Njeri) used to work in Nairobi. But since their company closed down she has been assaulting her son.
Apart from the boy, she has another younger kid and she has been assaulting her children for several months now and attempts to intervene have been futile as she has a don’t care attitude.
Neighbours involved Diana Okello whom I understand has since reported the matter to the police so as to have the mother of two arrested for assaulting her children,” the neighbour said.
Nollywood actor John Okafor (Mr. Ibu) has responded to a meme about him posted by American celebrity and Kanye West’s ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose.
The American TV personality had earlier posted a meme of Mr. Ibu and another man which she captioned: “The sugar daddy I like Vs. The sugar daddy that likes me.”
Going by the placement of the pictures on the meme, it appeared as if Amber was dissing Mr. Ibu as he happened to be the “the sugar daddy that likes me.”
In his response on Instagram, Mr. Ibu who seemed not to be taking the original meme and ensuing brouhaha from it seriously, asked Amber Rose to let him know if she was interested in him.
But he may be the only one who took lightly what his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry have been terming a “diss”.
Comedian Frank Donga, who started off with online comedy videos, is definitely taking his craft to new heights. He was at Naij.com for an exclusive chat and he talked about his brand, how he drew inspiration from his parents and more.
How did comedy start for you?
It started like a joke. And truly it’s been great. I’m shocked for the most part to see that people have responded positively to what started as a joke. It’s always been a joke; I am not a serious person. Just in case you didn’t know. I think seriousness is overrated. It’s been inspiring, humbling, surprising and overwhelming the kind of response we’ve been getting.
What is your response to comedians getting brand endorsements and why haven’t you got one?
Oh well, it’s timing. And God. Everything will work out in the end and at the right time. What I always say is ‘do what you love to do best and do it well, every other thing will happen when the time is right.’
It is, above all, interesting how people meet up with me and say how much they enjoy my videos on Youtube. Imagine for instance when a man met me one time and said how much my videos have touched him and his family. He told me that his father had seen some of the videos and laughed so hard tears were practically dropping from his eyes.
How do you come up with your jokes and maintain the look on your face?
I think part of the secret is I grew up in a house where the father is sarcastic. You see, my father would say some of the most ridiculous things just to get you to your senses and he wouldn’t flinch. And my mother too, she has some of the strictest expressions when she’s taking you for a ride. So these things have a way of influencing you. And I am really just out to make a point.
Again, I try to stay as creative as I can. I love cartoons. I’m an artist and an animator. I love facial expressions and so I watch cartoon characters and try to make my own expressions too. All I wanted to do was make something out of nothing and I am glad people are receiving the art positively.
Give us a background on your education
I have a masters degree in Animal Science from Olabisi Onabanjo University. I have always loved to put a smile on people’s faces so it was only natural for me to take up this part of me after schooling.
How did you and FalzTheBahdGuy meet for the video skit you both worked on?
We met at the University of Lagos at the TEDx platform where guests are called together to speak. It was organized by some young guys over there at the University and I was invited to speak. It was a great experience working together with him. He is a brilliant man.
Why haven’t you gotten any brand recognition and endorsements till date?
I wouldn’t say brands haven’t recognized me till date. First off all, let it be on record that I am not doing this for direct commercial rewards. I love the arts and so I am involved in it. I have a passion for reaching out to young people in Nigeria and one key way to getting this done is by passing messages across through comical ways and whatnot. It’s easier to send that message that way.
I have other things I do for a living. I’m in this for the passion I have. And the fact that people love what I do is another major reason I am involved in it. I mean the job interview skit, among others, has helped spread the message on the need to be prepared for tasks beforehand. Any young graduate looking to get a job today will most likely watch it and laugh loud and then get truly ready for the interview panel before appearing before them. Do you understand?
Social media is helping businesses and brands globally. Falz and others have leveraged on it, what plans do you have to take it to the next level?
I don’t claim to know everything about social media neither can anyone claim to do. I think it is an evolving part of our lives and it is a phase we have grown into. What was big way back isn’t what is big today in terms of social media. Humour is big today, bigger than it was years back.
At the moment I think I am doing fine because I have only been a year on social media and my growth on there has been organic. I guess it can only get bigger and better for me. I mean, for someone who doesn’t attend events and a lot of social functions and for someone who is only mostly seen online I think the growth of my brand has been good so far.

Islamic extremists who killed 19 people in a gun attack on a luxury hotel in Mali’s capital on Friday were hunting for Air France staff, a security guard has claimed.
The terrorists shot their way past a five-man security team before turning their weapons on terrified guests at the hotel in Bamako.
One security worker, Kasim Haidara, told The Telegraph that the terrorists were specifically hunting Air France staff – quizzing a man at gunpoint about their location.
He said:
“When they got up there, the terrorists asked him: ‘where are the staff of Air France?’.”He told them that they were on the seventh floor instead, and when they realised later that he had given them wrong information, they came back down and killed him.”
Another one of the guards, Cheick Dabo, said his colleagues had just finished morning prayers and had put away their weapons – a shotgun and two pistols – when the militants struck.
He said:
“We didn’t see the jihadists until they started firing on us. We weren’t concentrating and we didn’t expect it.
Mohammed Coulibaly, a cook at the hotel.
“I was busy cooking when a waitress started screaming at the door, ‘They are attacking us, they are attacking us’,”
“I asked everyone to go into the hallway, so everyone headed in that direction. Suddenly we heard the footsteps of the jihadists behind us and there was total panic, and people were running in every direction.
Mr Coulibaly said he then hid in a bathroom with one of the guests, but one of the assailants saw him through a window and started firing, prompting him to run to the kitchen where he was nearly overwhelmed by smoke.
I realised that if I didn’t leave the kitchen the smoke would kill me. So I waited until I didn’t hear any noise and I ran from the kitchen and escaped the hotel through a window,”

The leader of the dreaded gang of bank robbers which had been terrorizing commercial banks in Lagos and Ogun states in military uniforms has disclosed that his gang never intended to kill nine officials of the Department of State Service, DSS, who went missing last September.
The suspect, identified as Kelly Fotor, an Ijaw native of Arugbo, Ondo State, was arrested last Saturday by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, SIRT, at a wedding ceremony in Sapele, Delta State.
According to Vanguard, the suspect, who was at the ceremony with some armed men, had a gun duel with the operatives which led to the killing of one of the policemen, while Fotor and three of his colleagues, were arrested with bullet wounds.
It was gathered that the SIRT operatives, led by CSP, Abba Kyari, who had been on the trail of the gang, trailed Fotor to the wedding ceremony after their last operation at Agbara area.of Ogun State where they robbed a bank and left three persons, including a pregnant woman, dead.
Fotor, who sustained a bullet wound during the shootout, told Vanguard while he was being transported for treatment that he was the leader of the South South group of the gang.
He explained that the gang also had a Lagos leader who he identified as Ossy, adding that his gang was made up of 12 men, including himself, with bases in Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Ondo states.
Fotor also said his gang normally teamed up with their Lagos group for operations, disclosing to the publication that he and his gang were formerly into sea piracy before teaming up with Ossy.
According to him, Ossy is the leader of the pipeline vandals at Arepo and Ikorodu areas.
Fotor also said he and his men took part in the Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac and Agbra bank robberies, adding that they made N28 million from Agbara bank robbery.
“I and my group got N14 million share from the Agbara operation, while, Ossy and his group got N14 million. I left Lagos by waters that day after that operation with my men back to Igbokoda, Ondo State, where we shared the money and everyone got his share of the loot.
‘’It was Ossy’s men who usually pick out our targets. They were the ones who picked out all the targets, my job was to give support and my boat is very big and my boat boy is a professional and knows his way around the water very well,” he stated
When the publication inquired who was the woman in the group, he explained that there was no woman in the gang. He, however, said it was one of Ossy’s boys who normally dressed like a woman during operations.
Speaking on how they killed the nine DSS officials, Fotor told Vanguard that as commanders of the groups, he and Ossy never intended to kill the operatives when they were captured.
He explained that the operatives stormed their hideout wanting to rescue a woman who they abducted from Festac. He explained further:
“ One of our boys who was heavily drunk met us while we were interrogating the suspects after we captured them and he opened fire on them.
‘’I was at their camp at Ikorodu when the DSS operatives were captured and they brought them before me and Ossy and they knelt down and we interrogated them, but that guy, he was Ossy’s man. He was very drunk, walked in and without asking questions opened fire on all of them and killed them. Neither myself nor Ossy ordered their killing, we never wanted to kill them,” he explained.

A cheating husband has been taught an extremely valuable lesson – after returning from a business trip to find his wife had sold their house.
Builder Craig Arnolds returned home from New York to find the locks changed – and six students in his lounge. Wife Laura, aged 42, had packed her bags and gone.
She took the extreme measure after discovering an incriminating message on her partner’s iPhone.
44-year-old Craig forgot his iPhone 6 when on a business trip to America. When the phone flashed an unknown number, suspicious Laura swooped. The steamy message was from an American woman who described the kind of hot reception Craig could expect in New York. It was then she hatched her revenge plot.
“Things aren’t great between us at the moment.I could do it because my parents came up with the deposit for our home and when we struggled with the mortgage, they came in.”
Craig, who now lives in London, described the baffling scene that greeted him at the former family home.
“All the lights were on and the TV was blaring,” “I remember thinking it was really out of character for Laura to be up past 11pm. I had no idea what on earth was going on.
“At this point I was seriously freaked out, jet lagged and frantic – I started banging on the door and shouting Laura’s name – but was greeted instead by what looked like a 21-year-old hippie.”
He added:
I noticed all Laura’s furniture was gone, but the chairs and tables I’d inherited from my late father, plus my set of golf clubs and vintage radio – which Laura always hated – was sitting on the kitchen table in all its glory.
“She’d included my most prized possessions in the ‘fixtures and fittings’. I was gutted. I still can’t get my head around how she did this in the space of a two week holiday.”
Last time I marry an Italian, that’s for sure.“I made a mistake and paid for it dearly.
