A Kenyan lady’s wedding proposal almost resulted in a tragedy after she accidentally swallowed the engagement ring hidden in her food.

The Nation Kenya reported that Jessica Hawayu and her family had gathered for a family party on Sunday, March 12, at her house in Gongoni, Tana River County.

She had no idea that her future spouse, Johannah Charo, and the family had organized a surprise engagement celebration.

The day got off to a good start with food being prepared by family members. Jessica was given the responsibility of making her father’s favorite meal.

“Pilau is our father’s favourite and also her boyfriend’s. So she knew she was doing it for dad and dedicated herself to it,” said her sister, Melanie Hawayu.

While waiting for the go-ahead from his girlfriend’s family, the boyfriend and his friends hung out in the neighborhood.

They got a text at around 2pm telling them to start moving toward the location as the tables were being arranged.

The woman’s mother and the lady’s boyfriend devised a scheme to hide the engagement band in a serving of pilau, where she would find it.

“Dad had protested the idea but since there was no better idea, we decided to take a chance with the one we had and proceeded with it,” Melanie revealed.

Serving the food, Jessica’s mother kept sending her off on chores while burying the ring in the dish.

Charo was about to emerge from behind the girlfriend’s bench after sneaking into the property.

It was all laughter and joy at the table as Charo tiptoed towards the table, a move that was cut short when his girlfriend started choking on the food.

All attempts were made to save her as she got up from the table and rushed to her father, who struck her three times on the back before she threw up the ring.

“We did not anticipate that would happen, but dad feared it would. That was so close, it left mum crying,” said Oscar Habil, Jessica’s younger brother.

After collapsing, Jessica was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Charo insisted that he would marry her whether she was living or deceased, but she awoke to answer, “Yes,” with the engagement band already on her finger.

“I have learned a very hard lesson, that is how we would have killed my wife. The devil is a liar,” said Charo in a phone interview.

Despite the fact that things did not go as expected, Jessica says she does not feel terrible about the family’s plans because they all wanted to make her day special.

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a warning to banks still rejecting the old naira note despite the directive from the Supreme court.

The governor shared the warning in an open letter he posted on his Instagram page this afternoon, March 13.

According to him, any bank that failed to comply with the directive to receive and give out old notes would be shut down.

He wrote;

“My dear Lagosians,

I have noted the difficulties that you have been having over the naira redesign crisis. I feel your pains.
I discussed with top officials in CBN who assured me that commercial banks were directed to accept the old N500 and N1,000 notes as deposits and pay them out for withdrawals. They informed me that commercial banks got the directive at a Bankers Committee meeting on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
I therefore, urge you to go ahead and have transactions with the old notes. Lagosians should feel free to use the old notes for commercial purposes. Retailers, transporters, traders and all businesses must not reject them, as they remain legal tender, following the Supreme Court verdict, which extends the validity of the notes to December 31, 2023.
Any business that fails to collect the notes will be heavily sanctioned.
I therefore advise Lagos residents to freely accept and transact their businesses with the old currency notes (N200; N500; and N1,000)as well as the new notes.
If any bank refuses to accept deposits of old notes, please lodge a complaint with the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) via these numbers; 08124993895, 09064323154, 08092509777.
The Lagos State Government will report the bank to the CBN, and immediately shut down the offending branch.
I thank you so much and assure you that all this too shall pass as the authorities are working to ensure that the teething problems of the redesigning of our currency are resolved.”

The musician, who recently celebrated his birthday, made a stop at a market in Agege, Lagos, where he made some residents there smile.

He purchased food products like spaghetti cartons and distributed them during his shopping spree.

A young lady has celebrated her life’s accomplishments as she described how, after seven years in the prostitution industry had changed her life.

Taking to her TikTok page, she highlighted how she has been able to help her family with her ‘ashawo’ business.

According to her, she joined the business years ago and has since then built a mansion, bought a car for her dad, a shop for her mum, and sent her siblings to the best schools in the country.

Sharing her video, she wrote;

Nigerian media personality, Denrele Edun has revealed that while he was a student at the University of Lagos, a lecturer harassed him.

The English education graduate claimed that the instructor treated him well because he believed the TV presenter was female.

Denrele shared his story during his interview on the Tea With Taymesan podcast, explaining that the man invited him to his office where the harassment occurred.

According to Denrele, the professor whose name he withheld, had repeatedly told him to bring a test paper to his office for submission, he went to the office innocuously at first because he didn’t know the man’s real plans, only to have the man greet him and treat him as a female.

Denrele claimed he was stunned but proceeded in the act because he knew that if he denied being a female, he would fail the course.

After much back and forth, Denrele claimed that he was free to exit the office and walked down the corridor without speaking to anyone.

Court remands two undergraduates over alleged armed robbery and murder of Benue university student

A Makurdi Magistrate’s Court has remanded two students, Ugosor Japhet, and Gwebe Ageba over allegations of negligent homicide and armed theft, on Monday, March 13, 2023.

The defendants were detained after being accused of murdering Erkaa Naomi Dooshima, a student at Benue State University.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Erdoo Ter, did not take the plea of the defendants for want of jurisdiction.

As further inquiries into their offenses were being made, she ruled that the suspects should remain in custody at Makurdi Correctional Center. Ter then put the matter on hold until April 12, 2023, so it could be discussed further.

The crime was reported by one Erkaa Reuben of Logo II, Akpehe, Makurdi, at “E” Divisional Police Station, Makurdi, on February 21, 2023, according to Police Prosecutor Sgt. Regina Ishaya, who testified in court.

Ishaya claimed that Ugosor Japhet had illegally obtained N150,000 as a rent deposit from the complainant’s sister, Naomi Erkaa.

According to her, the funds were deposited into the defendant’s Access Bank account.

The police counsel added that the defendant, after receiving the money, conspired with the second defendant and deceitfully enticed the victim to his home under the pretense of handing her the apartment’s keys.

The victim was assaulted with a cutlass and suffered severe wounds to her wrists, neck, and head when she arrived at the home of the first defendant, the witness continued, causing her to bleed to death.

The defendants then covertly relocated the deceased’s body, stripped her nude, buried her beneath a mass of yam tendrils, and dumped her cosmetic bag, Itel phone, and iPhone, all of which had undetermined values.

The suspects were detained and made confessions to committing the crime, she said, during the course of the police probe.

Ter requested an adjournment of the case until a later date so that it can be discussed, stating that the inquiry into the issue was still continuing.

She claims that the crimes violate Section 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Related Offenses Act of 2006, Sections 97 and 222 of the Penal Code of the Law of Benue State of 2004, and Sections 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act of 2004.

A Nigerian man who recently relocated to the UK has lamented his struggle while expressing his ease before relocating overseas.

The man who went to join his wife who had been abroad for 3 years was captured in a video complaining bitterly.

He could be heard complaining in the Igbo language about how difficult it was to wear mittens and a sweater in the weather.

He continued to bemoan the high cost of rent while contrasting Nigeria with the UK, where a room cost him roughly N1.3M (or 1,400 pounds) per month.

The Labour Party’s Lagos Governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, alias GRV, has been criticized on social media over the inconsistency in his name.

GRV, who is contesting against the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other candidates, has been subjected to heavy public scrutiny since he launched his campaign.

This time, the politician has been called out for using different names to suit his ‘selfish’ agendas.

They pointed out that when he was campaigning for a Senatorial seat in Lagos state in 2019, he used his Igbo name “Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour”, in a bid to seemingly appeal to the Igbo populace in the community.

For his governorship candidacy, he used his Yoruba name “Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour” because he wants to get the favour of Lagosians as a whole.

In a new development, following the skepticism that trailed his status as a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), he posted a photo of his certificate which carried the name “Partick Rhodes-Vivour” and it has caused a buzz online.

Mr Kalukhana, who has 107 children with his multiple wives and concubines, married his first wife in 1987 but felt that he needed more wives.

He said he took more wives because he is a genius and believes he is too smart to be managed by one woman.

Nigerian singer, Stanley Omah Didia popularly known as Omah Lay, has responded to a fan who made an unusual request from him on Twitter.

The fan, identified simply as Queen Busayo, took to the microblogging platform to appeal to the ‘Soso’ singer to stop touching ladies’ waist in his music videos because it makes her jealous.

Making this passionate appeal, she wrote,

Popular Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has reacted to the trending saga between socialite Cubana ChiefPriest and his alleged Kenyan baby mama.

The self-styled celebrity barman’s alleged affair with the Kenyan lady who visited Nigeria sometime last year recently made headlines.

He was accused of impregnating the Kenyan lady, who has now given birth to a baby boy.

Following the birth of the child, controversial blogger Gist Lover called Chief Priest out and publicly revealed that he has a love child in Kenya, along with a photo of the child and his alleged babymama.

However, reacting to the allegation, Cubana Chiefpriest denied being the father of the child and dared that a DNA test be conducted to ascertain the paternity of the child.

According to him, he would refund the cost of the test in double digits if it turns out the child is his.

Amid the back and forth on the child’s paternity, Gistlovers shared some videos of the lady crying profusely as she recounts how her alleged baby daddy, Chief Priest has been mistreating her ever since she got pregnant.

Award-winning music video director, TG Omori, has revealed why he destroyed his phone, an iPhone 14 worth over a million naira.

TG Omori, born ThankGod Omori Jesam, took to his Instastory to share photos of the badly damaged phone and disclosed that he smashed it because the ‘devil’ lives in it.

According to him, the phone opens him up to temptations because it is filled with nudity and illegal activities.

He wrote,

“The devil lives in that phone that’s why I smashed it!
Too many sexy images, too many crime!”

Upon sharing the photos, a lady slid into his DM to offer to sleep with him, thus confirming his reason for smashing the phone.

His rate was brought to light after controversial singer, Portable, contacted him to shoot the vdieo of his trending song ‘Apostle’, but received a huge shock when he heard the price. Recall that Portable went online to call him out for charging him $50,000.

A 63-year-old Kenyan man, David Zakayo Kalukhana, has revealed why he married eight wives and has seven mistresses.

Mr Kalukhana, who has 107 children with his multiple wives and concubines, married his first wife in 1987 but felt that he needed more wives.

He said he took more wives because he is a genius and believes he is too smart to be managed by one woman.

“A head like mine cannot be managed by one woman. It is like a big sack of maize which has to be divided into smaller parts for ease of movement. I need many wives so that they can manage the amount of brains and ideas in my head. I am too smart for one wife,” Mr. Kalukhana told the Sunday Nation.

On how he provides for his large family, Mr. Kalukhana said he owns a half-arce of land where he grows maize and sugarcane to feed his family. He also does menial jobs, including landscaping activities.

Every month, he buys five bags of maize, which he distributes to his wives to make sure the children do not sleep hungry.

“When I’m not farming, I go out to do menial work, including constructing stone fences around people’s homes. The work is well-paying and it has helped me make some money to keep my family going. They will never sleep hungry as long as I’m alive,” said Mr Kalukhana.

Speaking further, the polygamist said he can marry more young wives if he chooses to.

“When I married my first wife Jesca Asembo in 1987, I felt like she was not up to the task. I have added more but I still have the urge to add more.

“All my children of school going age attend school. I toil daily to raise money to ensure they are in school to get an education for their future.

“I don’t believe in religion. I live my life through my own intervention because I am a genius,” he said

The wives, who are from different age groups, do everything together including cooking, eating and share household chores.

One of his wives, Asembo said she has never felt jealous of her fellow wives.

“I love my husband and that is all that matters. Even if he brings in additional wives, I will not be bothered because I understand him. He is a responsible man and whatever he does is always right because he takes his time to decide on what to do,” said Ms Asembo.

On the other hand, Ms Dorine Kalukhana, the seventh wife, said she used to be jealous when she was newly married but later got used to it.

“Today, there is no jealousy. We all live in harmony and no woman feels jealous of the other. Our man treats us equally,” she said.

Another wife, Ms Ashley Nechesa, said their husband is very responsible and does his best to make his wives and children happy. She also praised his bedroom prowess.

The remains of the National Youth Corps member, Oreoluwa Aina, who lost her life in the freak accident involving a train and a staff bus belonging to the Lagos State Government, have been laid to rest.

The 28-year-old was among the six victims who were confirmed dead in the accident that occurred at the PWD railway line in Shogunle, Ikeja, Lagos State, on Thursday, March 9.

Aina, who was serving with the Curriculum Services Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Education in Alausa, was buried on Saturday at Atan cemetery.

A delegation of the state government led by the Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, was present at the burial. The State Coordinator of NYSC, Yetunde Baderinwa, and the deceased’s family members were also present.

Meanwhile, The driver of the Lagos State Government staff bus that collided with a moving train in the Ikeja area of the state on Thursday has appealed to the victims of the accident to forgive him.

This comes after one of the survivors of the accident, simply identified as Titilayo, while recounting the events leading up to the collision in a chat with newsmen, said that they begged the bus driver to wait for the train to pass, but he refused.

Sharing his side of what transpired on that fateful day, the driver, who works with the Lagos State Ministry of Transport, blamed the incident on a mechanical fault in the bus.

“It was not my fault. How could I have ignored warning signs? The bus had a mechanical fault. It is a pity this has happened. I beg everyone affected to please forgive me in the name of God.” The Vanguard newspaper quoted him as saying.

Tems, who was nominated in the category of Best Original Song for her contribution as a songwriter on “Lift Me Up,” one of the songs on Marvel’s “Black Panther,” attended the event, which was held at the Dolby Theatre, Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, US, rocking a quite dramatic white dress with a long train and huge shoulder piece that wrapped around her head.

A Nigerian man, simply identified as Mike, has raised the bar for men after he proposed to his girlfriend with seven engagement rings.

A video currently making the rounds online captured the moment the young man popped the big question to his lover and presented her with seven rings to choose from.

The lady was leading the church in praise and worship when Mike quietly walked up behind her, holding a box containing all the rings.

The girlfriend, who was unaware of what was happening, kept singing enthusiastically as her boyfriend went on one knee.
