Catholic Priest suspended for joining Benue state governorship race

The Catholic Diocese of Gboko in Benue State has suspended Reverend Father, Hycainth Alia, for expressing interest in the governorship contest of the state.

The Catholic priest is among the 12 governorship aspirants who purchased expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to participate in the party’s primary election.

In response, the Priest was suspended because his decision to join the Governorship race goes against the Church’s rule on partisan politics.

In a viral suspension letter addressed to all priests, religious and laity of the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, dated May 20, 2022 and signed by the Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Gboko, Bishop William Avenya,  disclosed that the affected priest was earlier warned in line with the church’s rule on partisan politics.

The letter read,

“I write to communicate to you the suspension of my priest, Rev Fr. Hyacinth Iornem Alia from public ministry after series of admonitions to him.

The mother church does not allow her clerics to get involved in partisan politics on their own Ex can. 285, 3 CIC. You’re aware that my son, your brother and your priest has purchased the party’s form to contest for the office of the governor of Benue State under the All Progressives Congress which is usually against our vocation.

Therefore, to respond to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the church in the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, I have suspended him from exercise of sacred ministry. This canonical suspension takes effect from the moment it is communicated to him and last until he ceases from contumacy.”

Reacting to the suspension, Head of Media and Publicity, Alia 2023 Gubernatorial Organization, Kula Tersoo, said it was a normal practice of the church.

He noted that as stated clearly in the letter of suspension, Alia was only suspended from celebrating public Eucharistic masses, but that he remains a priest of the Catholic Church forever, adding that when his tenure ends in public civil service he shall resume his public masses and ministry.

“It is unfair to say Buhari ignores victims of attacks in Nigeria” – Presidency

President Buhari

The presidency has said that it is unfair for people to say that President Muhammadu Buhari ignores victims of violent attacks in Nigeria.

Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, stated this on Friday, May 20, while reacting to the controversy generated by the president’s condolence visit to the United Arab Emirates over the death of the country’s President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In his words,

“Those Nigerians should be told that they should look at all of the facts. I have accompanied the president to Sokoto on a condolence visit after a major incident.

“However, it is unfair also to make the conclusion wrongly that he had not paid attention or had not visited. He had been to Maiduguri quite a number of times.

“I accompanied him to Zamfara. He spoke to the governor, parliamentarians, religious and traditional leaders.

“I accompanied the President to Benue State. He addressed the governor in the Government House, Makurdi, after a major incident. I accompanied him to Jos after a crisis.

“So, did the President go to all the places where there have been incidents of violence or killings? No, he did not go.”

“It depends on what Nigerians choose to look at. The president has been responsive and he has been discharging the obligations that rest upon him as the president and commander-in-chief, in dealing with all of these matters. He has not cut short in any way.

“The point I want to make is that the administration has been very responsive. You just mentioned the railway incident in Kaduna, and this last week, the incident in Kano of an explosion.

“The vice-president of Nigeria was in both places. This country has one presidency. If the president is not there on account of engagements and the vice-president is there, let us take it that the presidency of Nigeria has attended to those matters.”

“Funke Akindele and her husband both cheat on each other, all is not well in their marriage” – JJC Skillz’s son Benito spills (Video)

Benito, the son of Nigerian TV producer JJC Skillz, has claimed that his father’s marriage to actress Funke Akindele is in turmoil.

Rumours have been circulating for some time now that the celebrity couple are going through a rough patch in their marriage, although they are yet to confirm or dispel the reports.

They further fueled marriage crisis rumours at the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) last weekend when they arrived at the event in separate cars and reportedly avoided each other all through.

However, JJC’s son, Benito during an Instagram live session claimed that there’s indeed trouble in paradise. According to him, the couple no longer live together.

He further alleged that Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz both cheated on each other on several occasions.

“They are not really together. They both cheat on each other, they both had a fight. My dad is practically living somewhere else. I don’t even have any care for them no more. “It is better to marry an Ehinome than a woman who twerks on Instagram” – Media personality, Sally knocks those body-shaming Blossom’s new wife

Sally knocks

Popular Twitter Influencer, Sally Suleiman has slammed those comparing the new wife of actor, Blossom Chukwujekwu, to his ex-wife, Maureen Esisi.

Blossom tied the knot traditionally with his wife, Ehinome, on Friday, May 19, and the development stirred mixed reactions on social media.

Sally knocks

While some netizens mocked Maureen because her ex-husband has moved on with another woman, others criticized Blossom for getting married to a woman they claim looks older and not as beautiful as his ex-wife.

Reacting to those body-shaming Ehinome, Sally wrote,

“It’s such a shame that people are body shaming Blossom Chukwujekwu’s wife on Instagram. I attended the same secondary school with Ehinome and she’s a wonderful woman, she’s always been a woman of God. It is better to marry an Ehinome than a woman who twerks on Instagram.

If Ehinome is too old she is not more than 33years and is 33years old? Must she have society’s definition of beauty? I’m shocked at all the comments I have read. Ehinome is a wonderful woman, well reserved, educated, polished and a God fearing woman (a Pastor).

To be honest I do not care whether a woman twerks on Social Media. It’s her choice. It doesn’t make her a bad person. My choice of words here is used because of the body shaming on Blossom’s wife. For every gbams expect a gbos.”

“Age should not be a barrier to learning” – Nigerian father shares his story as he becomes Immigration Consultant in Canada after his retirement

A Nigerian man who recently became a regulated Canadian immigration consultant (RCIC) has shared his inspiring journey.

The man identified as Rauf Obembe said he had already retired when his first daughter asked what he wanted to do next. She suggested that since he loves reading, he should consider becoming an immigration consultant, and he accepted the task.

According to him, the journey was not easy as he had to take courses, write necessary tests and exams, but he put in the work and is now an Immigration Consultant in Canada.

While sharing his story, he noted that age should not be a barrier to learning a new skill.

In his words,

“AGE SHOULD NOT BE A BARRIER TO LEARNING A NEW SKILL.
I was already on pension when my first daughter (a lawyer) asked me what wd I be doing now. I told her that I was still exploring several options, maybe go into another business. Then she suggested that since I love to read a lot, I should try to become a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC). I initially demurred when I considered the hardwork involved, I later finally agreed to give it a shot. She and her brother gave me seed money to start the process.

However, to become a RCIC has several hurdles, in fact about 3. First, you have to go through an Immigration Academy to study Canadian Immigration processes. This is an online course that could take between 6 months and one year, depending on the level of intensity you choose. I did mine in one year (2020/21. Secondly, you have to pass English Language Test (IELTS) Academic, with scores up to 9 in each aspect (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing). I did this test 3 times before I could pass at acceptable level. Finally, the Licensing Exams. This exam contained about 140 questions on several aspects of Canadian Immigration practices, of which you must pass up to 80% grade. I did this exam twice before I could pass.

Meanwhile, along the line, there were several instances that I wanted to pack it up, our daughter, Mosunmola would not hear of it. She was always there, breathing down my neck, cajoling and encouraging me, calling me to be sure I was studying (she lives in Nigeria), reminding me of the rewards inherent in this new career I am embarking upon. Anytime I complained that I was wasting too much money on several tests, she would reimburse me some of the money I spent.

Well. after two years plus of rigorous studies and several tests, I received my License to practice as a RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant) two days ago. I extend my gratitude to my wife, my kids and some notable friends that kept encouraging me along the way.

He pointed out that the law permits the police to arrest anyone found with a stolen item and that such a person will be given the opportunity to prove his or her innocence.

Adejobi then added that it’s advisable to buy things only from verified sellers, as buying things randomly on the street and in traffic can be dangerous.

“Its a matter of law. No sentiment. Why people must always patronize registered and known vendor in any transaction we want to undertake. I pity those who are fond of buying items in the streets or in traffic its very dangerous!” He wrote in part.

“The industry doesn’t rate you” – MI Abaga and journalist, Joey Akan, drag each other over Dababy’s visit to Nigeria

MI Abaga and Joey Aka

It’s been quite an episode on Twitter today, May 19, after popular Nigerian rapper, MI Abaga, and journalist, Joey Akan, took to the platform to fire brutal shots at each other.

It all started when Joey threw a shade at Nigerian rappers after American rapper, Dababy, visited the country to shoot a music video with Davido but didn’t link up with any Nigerian rapper.

He tweeted,

“Why is Dababy not having one-on-one with local Nigerian rappers? No meet-and-greet? No hailings?

“wE nEeD tHE CUltuRe to resPect Nigerian wrappers.”

You rappers should go and drag Davido na. Since entitlement is usually your first name. 😂😂😂

The shade was apparently directed at MI Abaga who had earlier lashed out after he wasn’t allowed to have a one-on-one meeting with popular American rapper, Rick Ross, when he came to Nigeria in April for a concert.

 MI Abaga and Joey Akan

He also slammed the Nigerian entertainment industry for not respecting HipHop rappers.

Well, MI saw Joey’s tweet on the timeline and instantly knew it was an attempt to mock him over his earlier statement.

The 40-year-old rapper didn’t take the tweet lightly and fired back at him, while calling him “a small minded and insecure” person who feels better by speaking ill of other people.

He also went on to call him an enemy of HipHop and told him he was no longer welcomed in “Nigeria’s hip-hop community.”

Responding, Joey slammed MI for thinking he has the power to excommunicate him from the industry. He also shamed the rapper for “begging” for respect and said the music industry no longer rates him.

He didn’t stop there but went further to accuse MI of attempting to ruin the careers of several artists in the industry.
