Finding a real estate property in Nigeria is a herculean task. This is even more relatable for people in major cities across the country, where the demand far outweighs the supply. First, you have to find the time out of a cramped schedule to go inspecting. Then there are the issues of non-responsive agents whose listings are not available on the market only to lure you to see alternative properties.
If a Nigerian living in Nigeria has to jump through these numerous hoops to solve a simple sorting problem, how much more difficult can it then be for Nigerians in the diaspora to find suitable properties to purchase or rent over here? This is where BuyLetLive, a new online real-estate marketplace, comes in.
On the 1st of November 2021, BuyLetLive launched its revolutionary marketplace with the aim of changing the narrative of homeownership and rentals in Nigeria. This e-commerce platform sets in motion its overarching goal to create a satisfactory experience for clients during their home search.
The Commercial Development Manager, Adedolapo Odunsi, noted that this development would create a significant relief in the house-hunting experience. According to him, “The platform will provide a two-layer solution giving developers and real estate agents wider visibility to showcase their products to property seekers globally. It is surprising that Nigerians in the diaspora still complain about how difficult it is to purchase properties in Nigeria even now when there are several developers with stellar track records delivering state-of-the-art infrastructure in Nigeria. Our aim is to restore the confidence of property seekers, and connect them to appropriate developers and agents through a digital platform offering convenience and impeccable customer-focused approach.”
On how the platform will address agent issues through verification, Mr. Odunsi said, “Your confidence level can be increased when you engage an agent on our platform. We conduct a basic identity verification process during agency onboarding aimed at protecting users on the platform. However, a more robust verification is in its development phase. Furthermore, for the estate agency ecosystem, we designed the marketplace to provide an easy navigation experience with features which enable you manage and plan your scheduled inspection while ensuring we provide unmatched visibility to showcase your portfolios to a wider audience home and abroad.”

Nollywood actor turned lawmaker, Desmond Elliot has said that he never called for the regulation of social media.
Recall that during the EndSARS protest in October 2020, the Lagos lawmaker received heavy backlash from Nigerians after he made a speech in the National Assembly saying social media should be regulated.
He described some of the users as ‘Children’ and also pleaded with Nigerian celebrities, social media influencers and motivational speakers to “tune down on the hate narrative.”
“We need to address certain things: Nigerian youth; the social media; the social influencers. All of these are making the narrative that we’re seeing today. Except we’re joking with ourselves, social media, yes though good has its negative impacts.
Please celebrities; please social media influencers, stop the hatred already. You have a means constitutionally to change the government; it’s called your PVC,” he said at the time.
However, in a recent interview with TVC Desmond Elliot denied claims that he called for the regulation of social media.
“Firstly, I was never against the influx of social media because the truth is constitutionally, you have a right to freedom of speech. So I have no problems with you having or talking or deliberating on social media.
If my saying something causes harm to the next person, especially when it is false, what should happen? Should we say because it is social media, let it go? I have no problems with social media. I don’t mind you saying anything, speaking, talking, dancing and saying whatever. I even think it is a relief form these days”. He said.

A Lady has taken to her social media page to advise that it is often dangerous when a woman marries down (financially) because men’s ego are fragile and in most cases, their insecurities would cause more harm than good.
According to the lady, she ignored her relatives’ advice and warnings and went ahead to marry a man she earns more than but like her family had predicted, it was a wrong decision.
She revealed that only 6 months in, she said the man wanted her to fund his projects and expected her to give him loans. She also said he took offense because she wanted him to double his career steps rather than live off her.
She added that abuse started then and when she chose she couldn’t take it anymore and had to leave, he employed emotional blackmail.
Read her post below ;
I was young and free. Just before clocking 30 and dating this guy I thought the world of. I earned like 5-10 times as much as he did. He wanted us to be married. It felt great and right only that some older people said No. Reason? I earned way higher.
It made no sense at the time. What did earning capacity have to do with love. Dad said you are even more ambitious and driven with more at your disposal. Don’t do it!. I thought it was just cheap talk.
I stuck to my guns. It was going to be him or nothing else. Love was enough. It didn’t take 6 months before all they said came to life before my eyes. He wanted me to give money for his projects. He wanted loans. I wasn’t willing to do so and it became war.
Verbal and emotional abuse ensued. He cursed me to no end. I was acting too big or thought I was. I wasn’t a supportive lover etc. It went on until I couldn’t take it anymore. Then it got worse. How dare I walk away from the relationship and his love?
The emotional blackmail and insults. It took a while to get over such a person and all because I wanted him to double his own career goals and steps rather than live off me.
Over the years after, I learnt a lesson. Money is the no 1 reason for divorces and who brings in more changes the dynamics of relationships. If a woman does, this has to be discussed headlong and not assume the relationship will be like any or every other.
It won’t be like every other relationship and it’s even different if the woman starts to earn more in a marriage than before marriage. The male ego is very fragile and the freedom money gives a woman may come off as a threat even if unintended.
A gentleman must understand this and be prepared to navigate the relationship away from a basic traditional one where the man brings in the bacon. It is often dangerous when a woman marries down because the man’s once-hidden insecurities come up and fight .
That is when you see unabridged verbal, emotional and sometimes physical abuse. Then the guilt tripping, blackmail, manipulation etc. Only mature and secure men thrive well when a woman brings more into a relationship from the outset. This cuts across races.
A man expected to lead a family in a traditional sense must understand that his leadership isn’t only from money but support, care, direction and guidance he brings as long as he’s not lazy.He only earns less which isn’t a crime.
Most women want their men to step up in all areas esp once married.
It helps the woman respect him and view him as a leader for real. If your woman earns more, no problem but don’t be docile or abusive to her. That marks doomsday to your relationship. Step up. Take another course. Seek more openings. Help more domestically.
But don’t be stagnant neither ignore the power dynamics and shifts that come with a non- traditional, non-binary romantic relationship. Things will be different for you.
A lady who helped deliver her best friend’s baby has been left shocked and heartbroken after she discovered that her own husband was the father of the child.
28-year-old Hailey Custer, who hails from Wickenburg, Arizona, revealed how devastated she was when she discovered that her husband of six years, Travis Bowling, 36, had allegedly cheated on her with her best friend.
Hailey, a mother-of-four revealed that after being there ‘every step of the way‘ to support her unnamed best friend during the pregnancy and birth, including wearing the hospital’s ‘daddy wrist band‘, she was stunned when she spotted a birth defect on the baby’s neck that was identical to one her husband has.
After confronting the pair about the birth defect, she claimed her worst fears were confirmed and she now alleges that Bowling had cheated on her with up to 30 women during their marriage.
Despite the infidelity, Custer said she welcomed her friend into her home after she gave birth because she had ‘nowhere to go.’ She said,
‘I kept thinking of my kids, at the end of the day that is their blood sibling and I’m not going to be the one who causes harm to that child.’
Custer, who is a recovering drug addict, shared her story on TikTok and it quickly went viral. She narrated that she decided to get sober after she became pregnant with her own child years earlier. And she wanted to help her friend, who was also an addict, do the same.
‘I had been forced to sober up because I found out I was pregnant,’ she explained.
‘When I found out my friend was using and she found out she was pregnant, I wanted to do what was right and make sure that she was safe and taken care of.’
Custer, who works in administration, also opened up about the situation to Caters News, and she told them that she noticed her friend and her husband getting close, but didn’t think anything of it.
‘We are all charismatic people, so we all had that nature to be charismatic around each other and make jokes. I didn’t see anything there,’ she said. ‘I was very naïve so I just didn’t think it would be possible for someone to do that.’
She explained that she helped take her friend to doctors appointments, drove her to the hospital while she was in labor, and was right by her side when she gave birth.
‘It was a beautiful experience for me at the end of the day, I will never forget that. I was just happy to be a part of that,’ she added on TikTok.
She also told Caters,
‘In the hospital before I found out, I stepped into that father figure role. I was there for her every step of the way. Even in the hospital, I wore the daddy wrist band, when she got her epidural, she laid on me. I actually gave the baby her first bath.’
But when she noticed a hereditary defect on the baby’s neck a few days after they got home from the hospital, she claimed that she knew right away that the baby was her husband’s.
‘I’m very familiar with [the hereditary defect] because my older son has it – it’s an extra piece of cartilage that grows out of the side of his neck,’ she explained on the video streaming app.
‘I was changing her daughter and I noticed that she had what we call the Bowling bumps, and several of his other children have it as well, so I knew exactly that that baby was my husbands.’
She told Caters that she remembered feeling ‘shock come over her.’ She added,
‘When I found out my friend was standing next to me, I looked at her and you could just tell. She couldn’t say anything, she just dropped her head and looked to the floor, and I just knew.
‘There were no words that were said, I just knew. For me, I was in a state of shock for a little bit. I walked outside when I first found out and just prayed.
‘I kept hearing the words over and over in my head – “bigger picture.” For me that meant, stop with your tunnel vision.
‘I was in a lot of shock in the beginning I couldn’t even process what had happened, it was almost like a stage of grief.
‘Like you have your shock, your anger, and then you come to the conclusion that this is actually real life, this is actually happening.’
But Custer said she was keen to help her best friend and continued to let her live at her house.
She told Caters,
‘Now we have this innocent child who had no say in this whole situation, you have someone who doesn’t have anywhere to go, who has no family, we’re not going to kick them to the streets.
‘I kept thinking of my kids, at the end of the day that is their blood sibling and I’m not going to be the one who causes harm to that child. So, she ended up staying with us.’
‘We stayed friends right after. I was upset, don’t get me wrong, but she stayed at our house,’ she also said on TikTok. ‘She helped with my kids and I helped with her kid. We basically played house together while he was out doing whatever he wanted to do.
‘They stayed with us and I ended up taking care of the baby. The dad was never around, still battling addiction and couldn’t take responsibility – he didn’t want to admit it was his.
‘There were a couple instances where he came home, and he was upset and he actually physically abused both of us.
‘I always say that she was a victim as well. Especially when you’re dealing with addiction, you’ll do anything for your drug of choice and he was the biggest drug dealer where I’m from. So it is what it is, I get it.’
After the alleged heartbreaking ordeal, Hailey said she found forgiveness within herself. She explained on TikTok,
‘Everything happens for a reason and I’m still friends with her today. I still love her, I forgive her I just hope she can forgive herself. Everyone makes mistakes.
‘There is no hate in my heart for either party. My ex-husband and me have three children together so I have to co-parent with him. And at the end of the day, my now ex-best friend’s daughter is my children’s sister. So I don’t hold any hate in my heart.’
A Nigerian man has taken to his social media page to celebrate his Wife who stood by him when he had nothing and also helped in supporting his dreams.
According to Mazi Muffasa, he met his wife when he was living in a one-room apartment and although his Wife was 5 years older, she didn’t listen to her friend’s warning about “Nigerian men” as she decided to bring him to the US where his life changed forever.
They have now been married for 3 years and he wrote that he owns his own Trucking company and he can literally afford his cravings and anything he wants, all because of his wife.
Read his lengthy post below ;
I met my wife when I had nothing, I was making 50k as a Production manager, freelancing for Nollywood producers, lived in a one room apartment somewhere in Ajangbadi, my wife’s from the U.S but there’s something that attracted her to me, we kicked off the relationship.
While her friends warned her bout dealing with a Nigerian man, she told em she don’t care that she sees something in me and that my environment held me back and she would really love to help me, she was 5 years older than me, she didn’t care, when she went back to the U.S.
We kept in touch, talked and she always made sure to visit me twice every year, 3years into the relationship she decided to file my papers so I can move to the states with her, in April 2017 she filed my papers, by November 2017, I has my visa.
By December 2017 I was in the United States, arriving with a fiancee visa had to get married and readjust status, all which my wife funded, it took 8months for me to get my work visa, all through these months, my wife supported me and made sure I lacked nothing.
At a point I was frustrated and depressed waiting on my papers, but she would always put me in high spirits, she never failed to share whatever she made from her business with me, even without me asking her a cent, she would buy me clothes and shoes, every and anything I wanted.
Fast forward October 2018 I got my work permit and proceeded to get a Job at Nissan Car Manufacturing company, November 2018 I bought my wife a brand new civic, because she sold her car to finance my relocation to the U.S.
January 2019 I decided to change jobs and delve into logistics, quiting my job at Nissan, I put my money and time into acquiring a CDL which costed 7000$, my wife stepped in that period and took care of the Bills and helped me achieve that goal.
I started driving trucks and making more than my wife, I decided to move her hair styling business out of our living room, I bought her a she shed and built her a front porch myself, and equipped it with all she needs.
2021, I quit working as a company driver and decided to buy my own Truck and start my own trucking business and as soon as I told my wife that move, the next day she came out with 5,000$ in cash to support me and I purchased my first Tractor Trailer.
3 months into driving as an Owner Operator, I bought my wife an SUV I’m August, and asked her what she wanted for her birthday, which was November 7, she said she wanted to get a degree, I have her enrolled in school, paying her school fees to get it.
My wife and I have supported each others dreams, and we’ve been together for 8years, married for 3, she took a chance on me and with faith and having her behind me I was able to achieve so much in so little time, I’ve only been in the U.S for 3 and half years.
A woman who loves and trusts you without a doubt will always support you, have your back and elevate you. I’m so fking lucky to have met my wife, my fellow men do not feel less than a man having a woman you love support you, that’s why she’s your better half.
Me and my wife has never had financial issues, she’s a signatory to my checking and business accounts, I don’t care how much she makes, even as much as I make more than her she always sends me money every now and then without me asking.
Moral of my thread, A woman can make a man as much as a man can make a woman, when you love someone you do any and everything for them…
Incase y’all wonder how much I’ve grown in just 3 and half years being in the U.S, I own my own Trucking company and I can literally afford my cravings and anything I want, all because of my wife.
