Mary Remmy Njoku disagrees

Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Mary Remmy Njoku has objected to her colleague, Uche Ebere’s stance that a 12-year-old has no business attending a boarding school.

Uche had stated this in reaction to the death of 12-year-old student of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni, who died after he was reportedly bullied by his seniors.

According to her, the only justifiable reason for a child to attend a boarding school is if his/her parents are divorced, the mother is dead or there is no one to take care of him/her.

See below,

Mary Remmy Njoku, a mother of three, has however disagreed with her stance, stating that no one has the manual on how to raise a child.

She added that some children who were homeschooled still ended up as rapists and robber.

She wrote;

“As a mother, I disagree with you. No one has the manual on how to raise a child.
Different families, different circumstances, different income, different children.
I mustn’t raise mine like yours.
Las las there are still rapists and robbers that were homeschooled.”

“Boarding school helps a child to grow stronger” – Actor, Walter Anga replies colleague, Uche Ebere, after she said a 12-year-old has no business attending a boarding school

The death of a 12-year-old Dowen College student, Sylvester Oromoni, who died after being allegedly beaten and tortured in school by his fellow students, has stirred diverse opinions about boarding schools on social media.

In reaction to the death of the young boy, Nollywood actress, Uche Ebere chided parents who send their young ones to boarding schools.

According to her, a 12-year-old has no business attending a boarding school except the parents are divorced, the mother is dead or there’s no one to take care of them.

Actor, Walter Anga, who has a contrary opinion about boarding schools, disagreed with Uche, stating that boarding schools help the child grow stronger and understand a whole lot.

He noted that the underlying problem is the upbringing of a child and the environment.

“All of una dey “MENT” for say a 12yr or less is not supposed to be in boarding school bla bla bla…It has nothing to do with the child’s age, rather the problem 1,is upbringing 2,environment (school) Most of us passed through the system and also received bullying then in school but now we are forming what I don’t know. I have refused to comment one this matter cos I have 3 boys and a girl 17+ 11+ 8+ and 2+ weda dem like am or not dem go pass through the system. Boarding schools actually help the kids to grow stronger and understand a whole lot. So make these our nollywood people😂😂😂rest I beg”, he wrote.

Dowen College: Late Senator Kashamu’s family speaks

Family of Michael Adewale Kashamu, one of the students accused of torturing late 12-year-old pupil of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni. Jnr, has reacted to news of his death.

The family confirmed that their son was named among the suspected bullies of the deceased, and further called for calm while expressing support for the ongoing investigation into the matter.

In a statement issued by one Mutairu Kashamu and obtained by Sahara Reporters, the family noted that Michael ceased to be the “school father” of the deceased before he was reportedly tortured and left with injuries.

The statement titled “Dowen College Student’s Death: Kashamu’s Family Empathizes With The Bereaved…Calls For Thorough Investigation”, read;

“The Kashamu family has been inundated with enquiries, calls and messages over the unfortunate incident at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, which led to the untimely death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old student of the College.

“While we empathize and commiserate with the family of the late Sylvester Oromoni over the irreplaceable loss, we wish to appeal to all and sundry to hold their horses until the Police and the Lagos State government have completed their independent investigations and established the truth.

“Most commentators have rushed to conclusions based on assumptions and false information, including the allegation that our son Adewale Michael Kashamu was in any way involved in the bullying or beating of Sylvester Oromoni.

”Since the news of the unfortunate incident broke, we have made our own private enquiries and carefully questioned our son about his involvement. This is why we did not rush out to respond to the cyber-stalking, name-calling and negative commentaries that have taken over the social media about our son’s alleged involvement in this sad incident.

”Some of the true facts now slowly emerging from under the mass of lies are that: Our son, Adewale Michael Kashamu, had acted as a school father for the late Sylvester in his first session in the school at the request of Sylvester’s sister who is also a student of the school.

“However, in the 2021 session commencing in September 2021 Adewale Michael Kashamu was moved to a different floor in the boarding house and engrossed in his own studies and activities, he was no longer as close to Sylvester as in the previous session.

”Adewale Michael Kashamu is a compassionate and considerate boy. Sometime last session, some boys had been accused of beating Sylvester with belts and seizing his foodstuff but Adewale Michael Kashamu was not involved at all. He was in fact in sympathy with Sylvester over that incident.

“On that occasion, Sylvester’s parents made a report to the school and the affected students were questioned and one of them at least was suspended.

“Adewale Michael Kashamu is not aware that an identical incident occurred again this year leading to Sylvester’s injury and death.

“Adewale Michael Kashamu had seen Sylvester limping sometime late in November and (assuming he might have been injured playing football) merely empathized with him and advised him to go to the school clinic.

”Other students who knew the circumstances of Sylvester’s leg injury have all testified that he was injured whilst playing football.

“Whilst he was in school, Sylvester had no visible injury to his lips or face. Sylvester’s family has admitted that Sylvester’s swollen, blistered and bloody lips (as shown in videos and pictures, now viral on the internet) were reactions to medications given to Sylvester after he had been taken from the school by his parents.

“We feel and can relate to the pains of the Oromoni family and all those genuinely concerned about this unfortunate incident. That is why we wish to express our readiness to cooperate with the parents of the deceased, the Police, the Lagos State government and other relevant stakeholders to get to the root of this matter so that the cause of justice will not only be served but manifestly seen to have been served.

“However, it is regrettable that of the five names that were mentioned in relation to the incident, it is only Kashamu’s name that seems to ring a bell. Consequently, the family and its late patriarch (Senator Buruji Kashamu of blessed memory) have been the butt of irresponsible, falsehood-based and unwarranted attacks even when the full details of the incident are not yet known.

”There is no denying the fact that Adewale Michael Kashamu is one of the children of the late Senator Buruji Kashamu. But, no family or parent will send a child to school to be involved in any form of crime or criminality; just like no parent would be happy to be informed that a child he or she sent to school to learn has been molested or killed under any guise.

”That is why we wish to appeal for restraint on all sides. The cyber-bullying of our family will not help in any way to solve the bullying in schools that society through the ages has desired to stop.

”The larger society should start by setting a higher standard.

“We reckon that the bereaved family has related the account of the incident as narrated by the deceased.

“On our part, we have continued to engage our son, Adewale Michael Kashamu, and he has continued to maintain his innocence.

“Now that the Lagos State government and the Police have waded into the matter, we shall fully cooperate with them so that the truth will be established and the cause of justice served – justice for the deceased and his family, justice for the accused students and their families and justice for the society.

“At this juncture, we want to encourage the management, parents and pupils of Dowen College (and indeed anyone) who may have useful information about this incident to please volunteer same to the Police and the Lagos State government – in the interest of justice.”

The late Senator Buruji Kashamu represented Ogun East in the eighth National Assembly.

I have never seen a yahoo boy that has survived beyond 5 years — Nigerian Doctor writes

A Nigerian Doctor has taken to his social media page to call out internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) and he opined that the profession does not have longevity.

According to Dr. Pengking, he has never seen a Yahoo Boy who survived beyond five years.

Read his tweets below ;

I might be wrong but I’ve never seen a Yahoo boy that has survived longer than 5 years

People who join yahoo compress all the money they would have enjoyed in a lifetime into a period 5 years. This is why they spend lavishly because they know they won’t live long.

Satan can’t give you something and allow you enjoy it for long. He must put a clause that will make you die soon

Their end can come in several ways. They may break the rules of the diabolical means which they use to get their client to pay and hence run mad or die mysteriously

Thy might end up in the nets of a body which they can’t bribe their way through e.g FBI

Don’t get intimated when yahoo boys spend money lavishly. They only have a few years to live. Their lives does not belong to them. They have to do unthinkable things like eating faeces with break, sleeping with mad women, bathing naked on the streets

I once knew a Yahoo boy who barked like a dog once in a month. He couldn’t control when or where it would happen. Hence he was always with paid boys so that if it happened in public, they would bundle him inside his car and run away to reduce the embarrassment.

Do you know that some yahoo have rules like you can’t give someone you love money. You can only spend on them. Hence many of them can’t give their mothers or girlfriends cash? What is the joy of having money if you can’t use it and make someone you live happy?

I challenge you to mention one ritualist/Internet fraudster that has been throwing money around since 2016 and is still throwing money around in this 2021 and living happily

It’s sad that people now openly endorse fraud and ritual money but deep inside these people, they are or happy and it’s so depressing knowing that breaking a single rule can cost your life

Nothing will ever beat hardwork and legitimate money. Don’t feel bad when they buy bottles for 1m in the club or steal your girlfriend with expensive gifts or drive the most flashy cars. If you’re surviving with legit money no matter how small, you’re still better off .

You’ll live long and you’ll have peace of mind and God will bless you one day. Don’t lose hope.

Be speaking grammar in the comments section woke generation parents, I hail una

She also wrote in another post ;

All the people that brought your dear life to a sudden end shall never find peace Justice for this young lad is a must, not only closing the school, what an evil act!

Rest on talent Sylvester.

Meanwhile parents should stop putting their underage children in a boarding school, 12years no nah, no closeness, no rubbing minds with them, it’s a no no, except if there’s a good reason and that’s the only way out.

“She hurled a number of unprintable insults at female officer searching her luggage” – NDLEA says operative didn’t assault BBNaija’s Khloe

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has reacted after Big Brother Naija star, Khloe accused its operative of assault at Lagos airport.

It would be recalled that the reality star had alleged that she was assaulted and harassed by a female NDLEA officer. (Read here)

The Agency’s Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement said;

“its preliminary findings showed that none of its officers assaulted an Air peace airline passenger, Ms. Abiri Oluwabusayo Khloe, at the departure gate of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos in the early hours of today, Sunday 5th December,”

“The passenger had in social media publications alleged a female NDLEA officer harassed and assaulted her. While further investigation of the allegation is ongoing, the following facts have so far been established: At about 12:20am on Sunday 5th Dec, during an outward clearance of passengers going to South Africa by Air peace, a female passenger, Ms. Abiri Oluwabusayo was asked to submit her luggage for a search, which is a regular procedure.

“In the course of searching her luggage, which contains about 8 handbags, Ms. Abiri who obviously came late for the flight as shown on CCTV footage became agitated and hurled a number of unprintable insults at the female officer searching her luggage. This attitude is naturally a red flag that would raise suspicion and equally taken as an attempt to distract the officer.

“Ms. Abiri went further to point fingers in the face of the officer and at the same time pulled out a phone to record the officer in the course of doing her work. At that point, the officer seized the phone from her to stop the distraction but that didn’t stop the passenger who brought out another phone to record their encounter.

“The aggrieved passenger and the public are assured that the NDLEA is a law enforcement agency that upholds discipline among its officers and men, and as such will take further steps to investigate any other evidence made available in the course of the ongoing process.”
