CEO of Wakanow, Bayo Adedeji has taken to Facebook to narrate an encounter with his chef that changed his perception about Nigerian domestic staff.
He explained that he treats his chef well, pays him a reasonable monthly salary and even adds additional cash as transport allowance.
However, he said he soon noticed the food bill was going high despite the fact that he was not entertaining guests due to the pandemic.
Mr Adedeji said he then decided to go shopping himself but only two weeks after, he was shocked to find that some of the supplies had finished.
He said he gave the chef the benefit of doubt but was disappointed to later catch the chef red-handed moving some foodstuff from his house.
Read his post below.
I have always wondered why people treat domestic employees like shit in Lagos. After a few years I now understand!
I pay my chef N100k monthly and weekly 5k for transportation he typically eats breakfast and lunch at the house, if he comes extra days I give him 5k-10k. And when I travel abroad which is usually atleast 1 week a month he doesn’t come to work while I am gone. During the pandemic I continued to pay him like nothing happened because I wondered how he would feed his family, I was not even in town o for 3.5 months
I noticed the feeding bill continued to rise and it seemed we never have things in the house. When I ask to eat something I get additional bill to do market runs every other day so I started tracking. My feeding bill went up by 100% in october for 3 weeks of feeding I was nearing 300k in spend excluding salary for me alone….. uhmmmmmm typically I have alot of guest on weekends but in November we were always at Wave on the beach. So I went out and purchased so much food that we could not possibly finish in a month. 2 weeks after I asked to eat jollof rice with smoky flavor and imported rice so that the grains stand at attention, he told me we don’t have tin tomato. Shocked! I argued he told me I didn’t buy it. I checked my records and noticed I purchased 2 cartons of tin tomato. I mean 2 cartons o of premium tin tomato like the one in metal containers from Renee supermarket.
2 whole cartons was gone in 2 weeks without having a major party. Then I remembered he had a naming ceremony so I thought he must have stolen it to use for his party but I assumed maybe I didn’t take it from the store or the house girl stole it since I didn’t catch him. America taught me to assume innocent till proven guilty not the other way around like typical …………
I was traveling for 2 weeks and it was kinda impromtu so I informed him that he was getting 2 weeks of paid leave the same day I was leaving. As I was leaving he was also leaving the house too so I asked to see his bag. Alas!
This guy had gone shopping in my pantry. The list was endless even hot chocolate (eruku oshodi), rice, beans, all my sardine, corn beef, even chocolate bars, canned sweet corn like the list is long.
It broke my heart because I thought I was nice to him and his family. Remember he did naming in Dec I gave him 50k to support his child but I gave him after the ceremony hoping he will use it to take care of his 5 children as opposed to celebrating the birth of another child. Not knowing he has been stealing me blind. When he started working with me, I spent time in the kitchen teaching him how I like my food, I retrained him even though he had been cooking for years. He became so good. I mean his fried rice is madness, I mean it’s so good, we discussed adding it to Dundu Nation menu but I worried about scalability without him.
I gave it all to him and told him not to come back again. I paid him for the time he had worked during the month. I know I am overly nice.
I fundamentally believe that everyone should be treated with dignity and respected for what they do. Pay them fairly and be reasonable with them, take care of them and hopefully they won’t need to steal. My friends say I spoil them but I believe in the love thy neighbors law the Bible preaches I sincerely just follow it.
Too many animals out here! Should I start buying bowls of soup but I just don’t eat refrigerator food and the food never reaches how cooked meal standard with blender grinded fresh peppers and uniquely selected meat parts not the cheapest meat in the market because I love ribs and brisket….. yes I am spoilt so I am back to cooking for myself and saving money since I can not find a honest chef.
A woman who was caught cheating and proceeded to attack her husband with acid has given the reason why she got in bed with another man.
Lucy Njeri was arraigned at the Makadara law courts and charged with assaulting Geoffrey Nyebere in Soweto estate in Embakasi East sub county, Nairobi on January 16, 2021.
However, Njeri told senior principal magistrate Angelo Kithinji that the complainant was no longer her husband as she had left him because she could not stand him and his ‘oversized’ manhood.
She told the court that she had warned Nyabere not to visit her house again because his manhood ‘is too big for any woman’.
In her words ;
“I have repeatedly told him that I don’t want him because I can’t stand him but he keeps coming back and I have reported him to the police for it. I have more than 20 (Occurrence Book) entry records against him but he rushes to the police to file counterclaims against me and no action has ever been taken. I can show them”.
It was gathered that the complainant reportedly arrived at her house at around 10pm on the fateful day only to find her with another man but she allegedly declined to open the door despite her persistent knocking.
Nyambere was said to have then opened a window only for her to splash a corrosive substance on his face leaving his face disfigured.
Njeri, who was arrested the following day, pleaded with the court for lenient bail and bond terms and was released on Sh10,000 cash bail.

A Nigerian lady has taken to her page on micro-blogging website, Twitter to celebrate her amazing skin transformation three years after she suffered a cooking gas explosion.
The girl suffered burns but thankfully, her face and skin has recovered and she is beautiful as ever.
She gave a narration on how the explosion happened, read below ;
On January 20th 2018, I was baking with a friend. She just got a handmade oven which was connected to a gas cylinder both the oven and cylinder was outside the house.
I went inside for some minutes and came back only to notice that the fire went off but the gas was still on so I put it off. After some minutes I decided to put it back on and all I heard was pao pao (everywhere plutomania lol).
My friends immediately tried to apply palm oil and flour to try and reduce the impact of the explosion. I was later taken to the hospital that was like 45mins away from my hostel.
I spent 2weeks+ in the hospital taking drugs, and getting rubbed with orisirisi. I had friends and course mates all around , I had to keep smiling so most of them won’t drown me with tears
Thanks to everyone who helped me out then especially Dr Elabo, a school staff staying in same compound with us then that took us to the hospital in a rush.
And to all the Doctors and nurses who treated me then too(cause I don't know most of their names) I'm so grateful.
A Nigerian Gay man who fell victim to “one-chance” operators has narrated his horrific encounter in the hands of ‘one-chance’ criminals.
Narrating the horrible encounter, the young man said, he boarded a bus on Jan 6 and shortly after the journey began, he realised he was with criminals.
They asked for his phone, bag and other personal belongings and beat him up while the bus was in motion.
They then went through his phone and the torture worsened when they discovered he’s gay.
He said they went as far as kidnapping him and calling his loved ones for ransom.
Read his full narration of the horrible experience below.
6th January 2021, I entered into the wrong hands. I almost lost my sight.
Looking back on how it happened almost two weeks ago, all I could say is a big THANKS to my supreme being.
I boarded a bus, unbeknownst to me I immediately became a Deer in the mouth of Lions.
I was asked to submit my phone, before I could say a word, a resounding slap landed on my face directly on my eyes.
I was still trying to understand what was happening to me on that Wednesday evening when one of these guys took my bag and started taking my belongings out.
I tried screaming for help, but my mouth was already sealed.
I was taken to a building under construction. I had no option but to give these guys my phone details.
They collected my credit card. When I refused giving out my bank details, more beatings happened to me.
Already, one of them was going through my pictures and WhatsApp chats and stickers, and as it should be, the flamboyantly Gay me on my WhatsApp chats was starring them hard in the face. That was when their HOMOPHOBIC being came alive.
They slapped my eyes so hard, called me names. It was so much on me that evening.
One of them went to the nearby ATM and withdrew all of my little savings.
They made a nasty video of me naked calling me derogatory names. I’m still surprised I haven’t seen the video anywhere online.
They chatted some of my contacts via WhatsApp asking for money.
Called my dad and demanded for ransom. I was literally kidnapped.
Already, my face had swollen and it was already dark. I saw hell.
I was released around 10pm after spending almost 6 hours with them in terror.
I left with nothing.
With the help of the bike man I saw on the road at that time, I called home with his phone to tell them of my release.
For more than a week, I couldn’t use my eyes, light reflection was punishment to me. Although I’m better now, I still use Shades.
I had to block my lines three days later. The trauma was so much on me I couldn’t get myself do anything.
Few days ago, my sister told me no one ate that night. My family was severely traumatized.
Yesterday was the first day I left home since the incident.
Well, I’m glad I survived that ugly experience.
I’ll be off here for awhile till I get a new phone. I had to borrow kid brother’s phone to tell my story.
Thanks you all for the so many messages in my DM, I love you am.
