Popular Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji has appealed to the presidency to dissolve the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), amid the ongoing #EndSARS protest in Nigeria.

Genevieve wrote an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari urging him to speak up and address the nation because Nigerians are not mind readers.

According to her, she is deeply saddened by the state of the Nation as it is difficult to differentiate between criminals and law enforcement officers.

While she admitted that there are still good people in the force, she stated that the bad eggs have overshadowed them. Further adding that there is lack of value for human life in our country.

The stellar actress recounted the shocking experience of her 13-year-old niece in the hands of SARS operatives and how no action was taking it even after laying complaints of this.

In the light of all this, she pleaded with the President to command his troops to stand down.

Controversial investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo has alleged that people between the ages of 18 and 25 protesting against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are criminals.

According to Kemi, persons within the said age range who never reported SARS’s harassments and extortion to the Police are possibly criminals.

She also asserted that armed robbers have also joined the campaign to disband the SARS unit of the Nigerian Police force.

Lagos state governor grants Funke Akindele and her husband state pardon

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has granted state pardon to Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband JJC skillz.

Recall that the couple was earlier convicted, for violating the state’s COVID-19 directives.

Moyosore Onigbanjo, the state attorney-general and commissioner for justice, in a statement on Friday, October 9th stated that the the governor’s action was based on recommendations of the state advisory council on prerogative of mercy, under the powers conferred on the governor by section 212 (1) & (2) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) as amended.

In April, the couple was arrested by the Lagos State Police command over hosting a house party amid the Covid-19 lockdown order in the state.

For violating COVID-19 directives of the state, a magistrate court sitting in Lagos sentenced the actress and her husband to 14 days community service each.

The court also directed them to pay a fine of N100,000. The duo pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of hosting a gathering of 20 persons and over, contrary to the social distancing directives of the Lagos State Government.

Nigerian mothers have come out in their numbers, to join the protest against the perpetual killings and brutality of youths by SARS officials.

The women who carried different placards speaking against the abuse of power by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian Police, pleaded with the government to scrap the unit to protect their children.

In their words, “stop killing them, stop killing our children, they are the future of tomorrow”.

Nigerians have called on Nigerian-British actor, John Boyega to lend his voice to the ongoing call against police brutality in the country.

UK-based lecturer and Twitter influencer, @ogbenidipo also called on Boyega and prominent Nigerians diaspora to support the movement.

He tweeted,

Port Harcourt serial killer, David West sentenced to death by hanging

Serial killer, Gracious David-West has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.

David-West who was sentenced after being found guilty for the multiple murder of several females in hotels in different parts of the state, had earlier been charged with ten counts of murder and attempted murder.

Justice Enebeli passed the judgment based on the voluntary statement and confession of the David-West as well as the CCTV footage of the convicted which was tendered and displayed during trial.

He was found to be guilty of the murder of Maureen Ewuru, Jennifer Nwokocha, Blessing Effiong Linda Warifa Samuel, Dorcas Francis, Kelechi Bridget Onuoha Rose Samuel Anthonia Ibe and the attempted murder of Benita Etim.

The court however discharged and acquitted the second defendant, Nimi Thankgod who was accused of dumping the remains of one of the victims of the Serial killer in a dustbin. The court held that the prosecution were not able to prove their case.

Lagos state house of assembly calls on FG to scrap SARS

The Lagos state House of Assembly, has joined several other Nigerians to call on the federal government to scrap the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Nigerian police force.

The house of assembly reached this decision on Friday, October 9th, after an emergency plenary session.

Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the House of Assembly, had called for the emergency session after protesters blockade the entrance to the Assembly complex on the night of Thursday, October 8th.

Obasa while addressing the protesters on Friday morning, assured them that the house will lend a voice to their demands.

Speaking at the plenary session, nollywood actor and member of the Lagos state house of assembly, Desmond Eliot, stated that it is necessary to heed to the demands of the people, if they so wish for SARS to be dissolved.

In his words,

“It has gone beyond calling hotlines. It has gone beyond reforms. The National Assembly really needs to look into it. The IG of Police must seriously consider.

“If the unit we set up is not working for the people, and the people are calling for it to be disbanded, then let us do what they’re saying.”

The legislative house also demand that the victims of SARS brutality be compensated by the federal government.

#EndSARS: Police allegedly shoots and spray tear gas at peaceful protesters in Abuja (Video)

Policemen in Abuja have allegedly sprayed tear gas and fired gunshots at the youths protesting and advocating for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigerian Police Force.

The youths converged at the Millenium Park in Abuja around 10am on Friday, October 9 to commence their peaceful protest.

The protestors were chanting #EndSARS and other solidarity songs while holding placards and marching round the city.

According to our source, on walking down to the police headquarters in Abuja, the police officials started shooting and spraying tear gas at the unharmed protesters.

In the video, they could be seen scampering to safety.

Friendly match between Nigeria and Algeria gets new venue

The Nigeria Football Federation, has taken to Twitter to confirm that the venue for the international friendly match between Nigeria and Algeria has been changed.

The match which was initially scheduled to hold at the Jacques Lemmans Arena, will now take place at the Worthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt.

It was gathered that the venue was changed on the request of the Algeria Football Federation.

The new venue, Worthersee stadium has a 30,000 capacity, compared to the initial venue in the southern Austrian state of Carinthia which can only take 2,420 spectators.

Although there’s a change in venue for the international friendly match, the date and time, scheduled for Friday at 7.30 p.m. (Nigerian time), remain unchanged.

The NFF confirmed the new development in a photo posted on its official Twitter handle @NGSuperEagles.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted report of four Super Eagles players testing positive to COVID-19 in Austria, ahead of their international friendly match against Algeria.

The NFF has now taken to her official Twitter account to clarify the report, stating that the writer misinterpreted what Coach Gernot Rohr said.

It was learnt that Rohr said that four Super Eagles players had tested positive for the virus since the pandemic, but have since recovered.

The football body noted that they are awaiting the result of the COVID-19 test, carried out on her players ahead of tomorrow’s game.

The statement reads,

#EndSARS: Singer, Small Doctor lead peaceful protest in Pen Cinema, Agege

Nigerian music artiste, Small Doctor has joined the league of celebrities in protesting against the infamous division of the Nigerian Police Force, SARS.

The singer, alongside other Nigerians were spotted matching around the famous Pen Cinema, Agege with banners having inscriptions that speaks against SARS officials.

It should be recalled that yesterday, Nigerian entertainer, Falz and Runtown led their planned protest against police brutality from the SARS section of the Nigerian Police Force.

The two singers, alongside other Nigerians and popular influencers convened at the Lekki toll gate, with banners having inscriptions that speaks against SARS officials.

This comes after the Inspector General of Police announced the ban of SARS’ operations on Sunday.

Tacha, was among celebrities like Tiwa Savage, Toke Makinwa, Rudeboy, former BBNaija housemates, Elozonam, Prince and others who lent out their voices against the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad who have been known for the innocent killings, extortion and harassment of innocent civilians.

Sharia Police, also known as Hisbah have reportedly banned women from using mobile phones and wearing sunglasses in Kuriga Village under Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

According to Sahara Reporters, a resident of the community raised the alarm over the increasing repressive activities of the religious police in the region.

According to him, Hisbah had been ‘frustrating the lives of youths in Kuriga and often carry out severe punishment for moral failings’.

“Hisbah is punishing youths for keeping afro hair and sometimes it is accompanied with beating.

“They have also prevented women and girls from using smartphones, claiming that it is used to spread unIslamic behaviors. They are just terrorising us,”

Another resident of the community also alleged that Hisbah personnel have prohibited women and girls from using sunglasses.

“They also sometimes storm houses where ceremonies are taking place and punish playing of music, dancing and any form of entertainment”.

The publication also recalled that Hisbah recently made headlines for shaving off the hair of young men on stylish haircuts and afros in Kano, arresting people for improper dressing and seizing tricycles from rides who decorated them with pictures considered to be obscene or against the tenets of Islam.

A Nigerian journalist, Chigozie Effe has taken to social media to share surprising transformation of 5-year-old, Adanna Ifewulu, who survived cancer of the blood.

Effe shared a photo of himself holding Adanna during her battle with cancer in 2018, and in 2020 after she recovered from the ailment.

The journalist thanked well meaning Nigerians who contributed huge sums of money, for the treatment of the young girl.

He wrote,

“A note of gratitude to all those who supported Little Adana Ifewulu to beat cancer of the blood, may God bless you richly,” he wrote.

“Recall that her story was shared on this platform and huge sums of money was raised for her.

“The little girl, a native of Anambra state now five years old is hale and hearty at the moment. God has taken charge of her case.

“Adanna is indeed a product of grace. For us at thechigoziiebridge, it’s a season of testimonies.”

Young lady goes missing for two weeks in Lagos, her phone numbers have been switched off

A Nigerian lady, Chinenye MaryJane is seeking the public’s help in locating her younger sister who has been missing for two weeks.

Her sister, Nancy Rosemary, who stays in Ikeja, was reported to have went missing a fortnight ago and all her phone numbers have been switched off.

Chinenye stated that their aged parents are worried and pleaded with anyone with useful information to contact her on (07010093401)

Wife whose face was severely burnt gives husband permission to leave her

29-year-old, Halie Tennan, has given her husband permission to leave her, after her face was severely burnt after an accident.

Halie Tenan who is a primary school teacher went for camping with her friends in May and fell into a burning fire.

It was gathered that Tenan fell while sleeping on a chair and woke up with horrifying burns across her face. She believes the chair must have tipped over and thrown her into the fire head-on.

Her friend, Kenzie, rushed to pour ice-cold water over her and managed to take her back to her house 2km .

Afterwards, she was rushed to ICU in The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and spent about eight days in coma.

On recuperating after several surgeries and skin graft, Tenan who realized that her face had been badly damaged, asked her husband, Mathew, who she had married earlier this year if he wanted to leave.

In her words, “I’m going to say this once, but if this is too much, you can leave.”

According to her, a stranger made her cry when they compared her to a zombie, but with time, she now has a more positive outlook.

She said,

“My face was covered in burns and scars –Not knowing who you are any more is a hard thing to come to terms with. I think of my accident as a wake-up call, a second chance to do better, to be better and to look after me better.”
