The difference between #EndPoliceBrutality and #EndSARS is that #Endsars is organized by dumb kids — Lauretta Onochie

President Buhari’s media aide, Lauretta Onochie has taken to her social media page to write an extensive post on the difference between #EndPoliceBrutality and #EndSARS, hashtags which have been part of a nationwide campaign by Nigerians (mostly youths) too put an end to Police brutality in the country.

According to Onochie, while Nigerians all want an end to police brutality, calls to end the tactical police unit, SARS, is organized by dumb kids.

Her post reads ;

THERE’S A GREAT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
1. END POLICE BRUTALITY AND
2. END SARS.

1. Thanks to @vanguardngrnews, from the image she shared on her Instagram Story, we now know that @zmbuhari lent her voice to what ALL NIGERIANS want- #EndPoliceBrutality That’s what all Nigerians want

2. There’s a great difference between #EndPoliceBrutality and End Sars. One is by Nigerians, the other is by
1. #DumbKids
2. Those who have no clear understanding of what the root issues are and
3. Those who are still angry that the NLC called off their strike.

3. WE ALL WANT THE POLICE BRUTALITY TO STOP.
For me, even parading alleged criminals on National TV and making them to confess, is part of that brutality that needs to stop, especially when two or more years down the line, such people have not been charged nor convicted.

4. We must separate the end SARS childishness from #EndPoliceBrutality Campaign. Ending Police Brutality comes with reforms. This is why reforms are needed to reposition SARS to serve it’s purposes more efficiently and more effectively to the pride of the nation. @PoliceNG

5. The reforms are not just about laying out the rules guiding SARS. No, its about ENFORCEMENT. The public needs to SEE that their reports and complaints are taken seriously and acted upon, including reports about those who slap or kill police officers too.

6. If we end SARS and create something else, it will metamorphose into another SARS, just as we have today- still with some bad eggs.
It’s PEOPLE that need to be held accountable.
There’s an urgent need for all Nigerians to look inwards.

7. When erring officers are seen to be held accountable and punished according to the laws, public confidence will return. Citizens would embrace them. Thats how national institutions are STRENGTHENED. Nations strengthen their institutions. They don’t kill them.

8. We cannot end the use of water because someone drowned nor can we chop off a hand because it lost a finger nail.

Let’s come together to push for a positive reform that will and can #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY.
That’s where I stand.

Man who raped his stepdaughter for over a period of four years bags two life sentences in South Africa

A South African man who consistently raped his stepdaughter for over a period of four years has been given two life sentences.

The 46-year-old man, from Sinoville, who was not named to protect the identity of his victim raped the child from the age of six, according to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

“These incidents took place over a period of four years when the child was between age six and 10 years old. At the time, [the man] and the mother of the child were engaged and stayed together. [The man] would go to the child’s room at night when the mother was asleep or had gone out, and rape or assault her,” said NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahajana.

One year later, the child opened up to her aunt about the ordeal and the matter was reported to the police — she was then placed in the care of her aunt to ensure her safety.

The 46-year-old was convicted of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and two counts of assaulting a minor. He was sentenced to a double life sentence, as well as 12 years and another year in prison for the various offences at the Pretoria North magistrate’s court on Monday, October 12, according to Mahajana.

Prosecutor Hanlie du Preez welcomed the sentence, saying it would send a strong message to sexual offenders.

We’ll make sure replacement for SARS is acceptable – Osinbajo

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has reacted to the disbandment of infamous Police Unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Osinbajo who spoke on Monday October 12, said they will make sure the replacement for SARS is acceptable by all stakeholders in the country.

He said;

“I think the most important thing is that SARS has been disbanded and that the IGP has also committed to ensuring that not only is it disbanded, but that whatever takes its place has the full participation of the civil society groups and all other stakeholders.

“A few minutes ago, the president also spoke about it, and spoke in particular that the disbandment of SARS is only the first stage in a full scale reform of the police force.

“I think everyone is now committed to seeing a police force and also a law enforcement that will meet the expectations of Nigerians. The purpose of law enforcement and the purpose of policing is for the safety of lives and livelihood of Nigerians. So, we are all committed. I don’t think it’s the exclusive preserve of anyone, we are all very committed.

“The president has also spoken about the prosecution of all law enforcement agents who must have committed wrongful acts. I think all these are commitment, but we must also understand that it’s a process; it is not an event. Reform is a process and we must all commit to it and must stay focused on those issues.

“I think the clear message is that there is a government commitment to ensuring that the process of reforms, those who have committed wrongful acts, are duly investigated and prosecuted. And that whatever replaces SARS is something that is acceptable, first of all compliance with all of the tenets of the rule of law, and human right rights.

“I think these are deep issues that we are all concerned about, I don’t think one person is more concerned than others. I have also been involved in many cases of many young people trying to resolve these kinds of conflicts that have been reported. I think it is a good moment for the police force and for all of us to try and reform the police. We are all committed to it.”

Not all SARS officials are bad — Comedian Ayo Makun

Popular Nigerian Comedian and Actor, AY Makun, has reacted to the blockade that happened at Lekki Toll-Gate as a result of EndSars protesters.

He also opined that not all SARS officials are bad.

The post on his verified Facebook page reads ;

Lekki Toll gate. Blocked. My take.. This is not necessary. yes we doubt the genuine nature of the Sars disbanding, But we hear this morning the IG slated a meeting with David and a few concerned youths. Why not atleast wait and see the outcome. This road block is going to torture your fellow citizens going about thier daily business. We seem to forget not all Sars officials are bad same way corrupt officials also exist in other police depts.
What we need is accountability and prosecution of the culprit officers.. Well

“#EndSARS movement has brought joy to me” – Ooni of Ife writes as he narrates “nasty” experience his “daughter” had with SARS

Nigerian monarch, The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has praised Nigerian youths for finally waking up and speaking with one voice.

He said the End SARS movement gives him “nothing but joy” and he went on to narrate a “nasty” experience his “daughter” had with SARS officials.

He also addressed police officers, asking them not to harrass protesters because the protest is also for their own good.

He wrote:

The #ENDSARS movement has brought nothing but joy to me. Finally, the youths are awake, with one voice and a common goal.

I understand your plight, my 25 year old daughter had a nasty experience with SARS, almost losing her life. On her way to the airport, she was stopped and terribly ransacked and surrounded by fully armed plain clothes policemen in a bus, detained for close to 30mins of thorough questioning. Imagine a young female for that matter, all her belongings completely searched all because she was with a laptop on an official assignment from her office in lagos. I can only imagine the countless ones that have lost their lives from such ordeals, may their souls rest in peace.

I assure you that this is the beginning of greater things to come in Nigeria. I implore you to demand for more, but plead with you to do so in a peaceful manner, as anything outside of that will cause unnecessary havoc for all. I have been informed of many innocent souls that were arrested and currently been detained, be rest assured that I am pursuing the matter and they will be set free.

To the men and women of the Nigerian police force, be assured that this movement is also for you, we know you are humans also and your reality is as a result of your environment. This movement demands better on your behalf, and is aimed at pushing the government to do better for you and elevate your standard of living. Do not persecute your advocates.
God bless Nigerian youths and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Offset loses 6karat earring during party with Cardi B and friends on her birthday

American rapper, Offset has taken to social media to reveal that he misplaced an earring during Cardi B’s birthday party.

Offset sharing photo of his bare earlobe, noted that he didn’t notice he had lost an earring till he woke the next morning.

He wrote, “6 karat gone ?didn’t even notice till I woke up this morning #shithurt”.

Mother of one, Cardi B, celebrated her 28th birthday over the weekend at a club in Las Vegas and her enstranged husband was there to celebrate her despite filing divorce.

The highlight of the event was when Cardi gave Offset a hot kiss, after he presented to her a new Royce rolls as her birthday gift.

Recall that the Cardi recently explained why she filed for divorce from Offset.

The ‘WAP’ rapper went live on her Instagram page and addressed her fans on the development which created quite a buzz when the news first broke.

The Mother of one said,

I’ve seen all the love and prayers that you guys have been sending me, however, I don’t really need it. I’m okay. I wanted to let y’all know I have not shed not one tear.

Every single time that this guy has been so crazy, so fucked up and it hits the media, I’m always crying, always sad because I don’t like that type of shit.

This time, I wasn’t crying. You want to know why? The reason for my divorce is not because of none of that shit that ever happened before. It’s not because of cheating. I’m seeing people be like, ‘Oh, he has a baby on the way.’ That’s a whole fucking complete lie. That’s the second time people are trying to pin babies over here. No, that’s bullshit.

I just got tired of f—ing arguing. I got tired of not seeing things eye to eye. When you feel like it’s just not the same anymore, before you actually get cheated on, I’d rather just leave.

Nothing crazy out of this world happened, sometimes people really do grow apart. I been with this man for four years. I have a kid with this man, I have a household with this man…sometimes you’re just tired of the arguments and the build up. You get tired sometimes and before something happens, you leave.

The thespian said that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, doesn’t belong in the civil society, according to her, they should be deployed to Sambisa as they are needed more there.

In an interview with Arise TV at the protest venue, she said;

“We are sick and tired of audio striking or whatever. We want to see it happen, 9 times they have rebranded them, but nothing has changed. The entire police force is messed up and they need to go in for proper mental evaluation.

And then you can restructure them, obviously not rebrand or renamed. We want to see it practically done. Listen, they are looking for where to deploy them to, I have a good suggestion, Sambisa needs people like them, they don’t belong to civil society”

“I can never leave my husband” – Chacha Eke says as she insists she has bipolar disorder

Popular Nigerian actress, Chacha Eke has revealed that she can never leave her husband, and confirms that her marriage to movie director, Austin Fanni Ikechukwu, is still intact.

Bipolar disorder is a mental condition marked by alternating periods of elation and depression.

Recall that, some days back, Chacha took to social media to share a video announcing the end of her marriage to Austin Faani. Chacha in a video shared on October 3, stated that she was done with her 7-year-old marriage and was leaving it with her life.

“And so, I say this to as many as are out there, I didn’t leave my home and I am not leaving”

On Sunday, 11th of October, 2020, the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police announced the dissolvement of the infamous Police division and revealed that the officers that were in the unit will be deployed to a different department in the police force.

The dissolution of the unit however, is not total good news to Nigerian youths as as at the time of filing this report, major areas in the country are filled with youths protesting and demanding a reform of the Nigerian police force.

It’s in light of these protests that the alleged monthly and annual salary of different levels of the Nigerian Police force got discovered and this has caused people to wonder if this is where their frustration comes from.

It’s no doubt some of the infamous officers who harass Nigerian youths, do so out of jealously — and various videos online have shown some of these officers airing their contempt over the progress of a young Nigerian and leading to them profiling them a fraudster.

Here’s a list detailing the supposed salaries of different levels of the Nigerian Police Force,

PRESIDENT BUHARI: DISBANDING OF SARS FIRST STEP TO EXTENSIVE POLICE REFORMS

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja declared that disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is the first step to extensive police reforms by his administration.

Speaking at the launch of the Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme (P-YES), aimed at creating 774,000 jobs across the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the country, President Buhari also directed that all those responsible for misconduct or wrongful acts be brought to justice.

‘I will like to use this opportunity to say a word on the recent genuine concerns and agitations by Nigerians about the excessive use of force and in some cases extra-judicial killings and wrongful conduct of the men of the Nigerian Police Force,’’ President Buhari said during the launch of the P-YES programme, attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and Engineer Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State.

He continued: ”The disbanding of SARS is only the first step in our commitment to extensive police reforms in order to ensure that the primary duty of the police and other law enforcement agencies remains the protection of lives and livelihood of our people.

”We will also ensure that all those responsible for misconduct or wrongful acts are brought to justice.

We deeply regret the loss of life of the young man in Oyo State during the recent demonstrations.

”I have directed that the circumstances of his death should be thoroughly investigated.

”Meanwhile, it is important to recognise that the vast majority of men and women of the police force are hardworking and diligent in performing their duties.

”The few bad eggs should not be allowed to tarnish the image and reputation of the force.”

”The P-YES is also part of the plan that we adopted in 2016 in which we empowered One hundred youths from each of the 774 Local Government Areas with the necessary tools to acquire skills and establish small businesses.

”Given the success of that initiative, we are now committed to creating 774,000 jobs across all the LGAs, through the P-YES programme,

”All the tools, machines and equipment that are exhibited here, are products of the efforts of these empowered youth entrepreneurs.

”I note with particular pleasure that they were all fabricated in Nigeria by Nigerian youths using locally sourced materials. This is a wonderful and uplifting achievement.

”As an entrepreneurship empowerment project, the P-YES programme aims to address the needs of unskilled and less educated youth.

”It targets key areas of activities that are of practical importance and are essential to every aspect of our economy.

”These include areas such as agriculture and food processing, restaurant and catering, tailoring and fashion design, technical skills such as in the Information and Communications Technology sector, artisanship, welding, carpentry and joinery, other small businesses and activities associated with the microeconomic sector of this economy,” he said.
