The sold-out crowd in New York which was largely in favor of Anthony Joshua were left stunned and silent, after the, IBF, WBA and WBO title holder was knocked down four times before underdog Ruiz was awarded a technical knockout.
Reacting after the match, Joshua said, “big respect to Andy, big big respect. He’s a good fighter. Thank you America. Thank you everyone for coming out this evening. Sorry I let my friends down, sorry I let my supporters down.”
He went on to say, “there’s no excuses. It’s my own fault. I got caught with a big shot. Congratulations to him. I would have preferred it to be Deontay Wilder, do you know what I mean? But it wasn’t. It was Andy Ruiz, and he deserves it, and the fame and fortune he’s about to receive.
“I don’t want anyone to kind of drown in their sorrows. This is boxing. It’s all the same. It just wasn’t my night. It was Andy Ruiz’s night. You know what? It’s good for the TV”.
Cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was recently featured in a movie in which he acted like a lady. This movie stirred a lot of controversy to the extent that it was reported that the movie might be banned by the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board.
In the same vein, the director of the movie, Kensteve Anuka, was accused of promoting homosexuality; which has been described as alien to the Nigerian culture.
However, in an interview with Saturday Beats, Anuka, who is the writer and director of the movie, noted that the movie was never meant to promote homosexuality. According to him, the movie hasn’t been banned but a panel has been set up to investigate its content.
“There was no ban; a panel was set up to investigate if the movie promoted some things that were against our culture. If it is found to be true, then the movie would be banned. There is no outright ban of the movie. It is not good to judge a book by its cover, they need to watch the movie and see the message in the movie. If they have an issue with the lead character in the movie, then I wouldn’t know. As a professional filmmaker, I try to cast people who fit into my script perfectly. Film is make-believe; it’s about trying to convince people.
“The movie is about a young man whose father is a core traditionalist. The young man left to study in the western world as a normal man, leaving his family members and fiancée behind. The father was to be given a traditional title, and part of the requirement of the title was to present his son who should take after him.
“He had performed other rites and the last step was for the son to come back. He believed his son was still the way he was when he left for overseas, so he was acquiring properties for him. The father was even in line to become a king. He was very proud of his son and expecting him to come back bigger than he left, only for the supposed son to return as a woman. He was shocked. They (his siblings and fiancée) were all surprised. The character begged his family to accept him the way he is, but his family members insisted that they wouldn’t do that because it was against their culture. It was a battle in the movie.
“The bottom line was that they tried everything to make him behave like a man again, traditionally. That is what the storyline is about. At the end of the movie, the character said he was only playing a game to test the love of his fiancée to see if she would still accept him. At the end of the day, he decided to put away everything that made him look like a woman to be with his fiancée. The movie didn’t try to promote homosexuality,” he said.
The director further stressed the reason why he chose to feature Bobrisky in his movie, adding that he was only trying to get the best act for the role and he had no intentions of promoting him.
“I chose to cast Bobrisky for that role because he already had the features we needed to interpret the role well. When you make a film and it looks fake; people won’t find it interesting. As a filmmaker, we use every tool we have to tell a story. We don’t discriminate, everyone has their personal life. We are law-abiding citizens; the movie was already on YouTube and had many views. When we saw that a panel had already been set up, we pulled it down pending the outcome of the investigation. We are responsible filmmakers.
“I don’t make my judgments on what people say. I did it because I wanted to make a film and pass a message. There is the business angle to every profession. For every movie, there is the business side. Before we cast for every movie we are doing, we try to estimate the commercial value of the talent. If we didn’t do that, we would be kicked out of business. We made the film and chose the perfect person for the role. The movie has to be seen to the end to see that we are not trying to promote him,” he added.
Anuka also talked about some of the challenges he had faced in his career as a director, noting that “every trade has its ups and downs”.
“For me, I have experienced both the good and the bad. I have been successful in the way I tell my African stories. Different things inspire the content of my movies. Development in the society also inspires me; sometimes inspiration comes to me in the bus,” he said.

Residents of Umuobioma in Ozara, Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State are yet to overcome the unsavory scenarios which played out in their hitherto serene hamlet recently.
Following the death of one of their illustrious sons, Late Chief Mathew Ugwumba, several guests, made up of friends and relatives had assembled from far and near, preparatory to giving Mathew Ugwumba, a befitting burial, most deserving of his status in the community. Assorted dishes had been prepared.
Wines-local and foreign- had been bought and cooled, while different performance groups had been engaged; everyone was indeed looking forward to the glorious end of Chief Ugwumba’s journey in life as he gets lowered to his grave, having lasted up to 94 years, in a country where life expectancy still hovers around 49.
But this was not to be.
As the preparations were in top gear, the corpse was laid on a beautiful bed under a decorated canopy, waiting for the priest to conduct necessary rites for the burial.
Suddenly, a team of armed police personnel, who came from the Mgbidi Police Division, drove into the venue of the burial, alighted one after the other from their van and invaded the village.
There was serious confusion everywhere as the scene looked like a Nollywood movie. It was later learnt that the men in uniform had come to enforce a court order, restraining the burial from taking place. Some of those engaged for cooking and few youths who had been engulfed with the fun of the burial procession took to their heels, gathering at a distance to watch the rest of the movie.
Before guests and family members could begin to ask questions, Olivia Ugwumba, Late Ugwumba’s second wife and some other members of the Umuobioma hamlet were whisked away. This instantly threw spanners in the wheel of progress as far as the burial rites were concerned, exposing the entire village to a somewhat embarrassing situation. Late Ugwumba, who died on September 26, 2018 and had been prepared for burial was returned back to Demion Hospital Mortuary, Orlu, Imo State.
Revelations showed that the bone of contention was a court injunction, obtained by Julius Ugwumba, one of the sons of the deceased Mathew Ugwumba’s first wife (plaintiff), praying that his father should not be buried!
According to the suit with number: HOW/652/2019, the court order reads: ‘The Motion Exparte filed on 15/4/2019 praying for interim injunction restraining the Defendants from continuing with any arrangement for or concerning the burial of Pa Mathew Ugwumba, the alleged testator of the will dated 13th November 2017, pending the determination of the interlocutory injunction filed in this suit.
And after the hearing, K.A Nwakuche with Nkem Oputa of counsel for the Plaintiffs/Applicants, it is hereby, ordered that the Defendants be and are hereby in the interim restrained from continuing with any arrangements for or concerning the burial of Late Pa Mathew Ugwumba of Ozara, Oru West LGA or carry out the burial on 3rd May, 2019 or any other date pending the determination filed on 15th April, 2019.”
For many people in the community, the incident came as a rude shock, because so many consultations and peace parleys had been orchestrated prior to this period towards making sure that the deceased gets the rest he may have been yearning for as a living man.
According to the Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Edmund Obodo Ebeloma, the lingering crisis which precipitated all these shameful developments were unnecessary as every effort had been previously made to forestall any problems.
He says: “This whole ugly development is unnecessary. The man in question, Mathew Ugwumba, was like a big uncle to all of us. We had agreed, as members of the same kindred that everyone should sheathe his sword and carry out this burial, which every one of us is responsible for and had been levied. Before this whole arrangement started, one of Mathew’s sons, named Julius had agreed that everything was okay. In fact, they invited all of us to the Parish Priest, who wanted to know if everything was alright before allotting a date to us for the burial. We had wanted the burial to take place on the 26th of April.
“This date however coincided with the burial of another prominent son of this town, which forced us to shift ours to May 3, because the other group got the date before us. The preparations were in top gear, and nobody was expecting any disruptions. But Philip, the second son and his brothers, fully aware of the entire plans, went to get an injunction to stop the whole process. And his reasons are rather amusing. He said one of his sisters, named Adaobi was not duly consulted; which is not true because some people went to inform her husband’s people of the burial plans. When Philip noticed that the excuse was not working, he came up with another reason that our kindred ostracised them.
“Again, that is false, because he voluntarily decided to leave Egbudike kindred and align with Umuonuoha kindred. You can imagine the embarrassment this is causing after guests have been invited and on getting here, the story becomes something else. If their problem is their father’s will, it is misplaced, because the man in question did not own any building in choice locations like Abuja, Onitsha or Lagos, that could be causing this kind of uproar. In fact, I am disappointed in this whole matter. So many innocent people have been detained over this lingering issue.”
Explaining further, Benedict Ugwumba, one of the relatives, confirmed that a piece of land was at the centre of this whole problem, which only recently culminated in the injunction, restraining the 94 year-old man from being buried according to Igbo custom. According to him, one of Pa Ugwumba’s sons, Anayo has been in detention since 31st December, 2017 on the accusation of murder.
“This matter should serve as a lesson to others. A piece of land which John wants is at the centre of this whole problem. Late Mathew has made it known that he did not give the land to him. In fact, as I speak with you, two of the step brothers had a fight over this in 2017, and the result has been a subject of controversy.
“One of them who died afterwards from other issues was said to have been killed by Anayo, despite the fact that the autopsy did not reveal so. And since 31st December, 2017, Anayo, who is being accused of that death, has been in detention. His brothers are spoiling for war to avenge that death, including stopping the burial plans of his father.”
As the order restraining the burial subsists, the hearing which was supposed to come up on May 15th 2019, could not hold due to some technical issues, and the implication is obvious: Late Pa Mathew Ugwumba’s spirit will still be hovering restlessly.
The United States State says you will now have to submit your social media usernames when applying for a visa into the North American country.
According to BBC, the new regulations also require that people also submit five years’ worth of email addresses and phone numbers.
This is part of the state department’s plan to ensure national security in the country.
“National security is our top priority when adjudicating visa applications, and every prospective traveler and immigrant to the United States undergoes extensive security screening,” the department said via an initial proposal in 2018.
“We are constantly working to find mechanisms to improve our screening processes to protect U.S. citizens, while supporting legitimate travel to the United States.”
Andy Ruiz, 29, a native of southern California, became the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a heavyweight title as he captured Joshua’s IBF, WBA and WBO titles with excessive force and heart.
Ruiz (33-1, 22 KOs) spoiled the long-awaited U.S. debut of unified heavyweight champion and British star Anthony Joshua to score four knockdowns and record a spectacular upset via seventh-round TKO at Madison Square Garden.
Ruiz get up off the canvas early in Round 3 in order to do what oddsmakers felt was nearly impossible, he showed tremendous poise, power and fearlessness in systematically dismantling Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs) to flip the heavyweight division upside down
“I just want to thank God for giving me this victory. Without him this wouldn’t have been possible,” Ruiz said. “This is what I have been dreaming about. This is what I have been working hard for, and I can’t believe I just made my dreams come true.”
Ruiz never backed down from there despite letting Joshua off the hook in Round 4 when it was clear both fighters were heavily fatigued. Two knockdowns later in Round 7 and referee Michael Griffin jumped in at 1:27 to wave the fight off as Joshua was weary on his feet.
With the sold-out crowd, which was largely in favor of Joshua, stunned and silent following the stoppage, Ruiz jumped around the ring in wild celebration.
“Big respect to Andy, big big respect,” Joshua said. “[He’s a] good fighter. Thank you America. Thank you everyone for coming out this evening. Sorry I let my friends down, sorry I let my supporters down.”
Relationship Blogger, Blessing Okoro has officially apologized to Nigerians and her fans after she claimed someone else’s house as hers.
Here’s her full apology;
Hey lovers.. I know it has been crazy lately and I am sincerely sorry.. I take responsibility for everything.. I hate that I had to put my friends and everyone else who looked up to me in this position..
Like everyone else I had goals set up for the year and one of them was to finish my house before my 30th birthday and it was a resolution I had layed out in public but because of certain reasons I couldn’t meet up the dead line and that put me under a mental pressure for success.
I was impatient which led to beating myself too hard and I could have done better.. I AM REALLY SORRY I LET YOU ALL DOWN…I know better now.. I know not to go ahead of my victory and have small wins celebration.. Here’s to everyone under any sort of pressure.
I had to experience a major meltdown to learn that patience is virtue.. Its only going to take a little time but the lines will eventually fall in pleasant places.. And for the incessant calls and text messages from my loved ones that were terrified seeing me on cuffs I was never arrested or detained and no police officers was associated with the act .it was thier best form of proving a point.
But i am grateful to everyone who stood by me, I hope you still find a place in your heart to forgive ,love me and accept me as the crazy happy girl you have always loved

EFCC Arraigns Woman, Two others who Claim Snake Swallowed JAMB’s N35m
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today, Friday, May 31, 2019, arraigned Philomina Chieshe, the controversial official of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, who claimed that the N35, 480, 000 (Thirty Five Million Four Hundred and Eighty Naira) being JAMB proceeds in her custody was swallowed by a snake in Makurdi, Benue State JAMB office. She was arraigned before Justice Peter Affen of the FCT High Court, Maitama. Two other officials of JAMB also arraigned alongside Chieshe were Samuel Sale Umoru and Yakubu Jekada.
The trio were arrested by the Commission in 2016, following an audit report indicting them over the alleged graft and were arraigned on charges bordering on fraud, misappropriation of funds and criminal breach of trust while holding sway as Jamb officials in Benue and Plateau States, respectively.
Two of the suspects were arraigned on eight counts 1 to 7 charges but Philomina Chieshe was arraigned on the count eight alone.
One of the counts reads: “That you Samuel Sale Umoru and Philomina Chieshe between August, 2014 and July, 2016 in Abuja and Benue state within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court while respectively being the State coordinator and clerical officer of the Joint and Admissions Matriculations Board Zonal office, Makurdi and in such capacity entrusted with the dominion over certain properties to wit, N35,480,000.00 (Thirty Five Million, Four Hundred and Eighty Thousand Naira) being proceeds realized from the sales of e-facility cards belonging to JAMB committed criminal breach of trust by dishonestly using said funds and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Law.”
While the last count charge preferred on Philomina Chieshe reads: “That you, Philomina Chieshe sometime in June 2016, in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court being legally bound to furnish to the management of Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) information on the financial status of the Jamb e-cards supplied to the Benue Zonal Office of JAMB between 2014 and 2016 stated that the sum of N36,510,500 being the value of the shortfall of unremitted e-JAMB cards disappeared as a result of manipulations from the kingdom of darkness which claim you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 139 (a) of the Penal Code Law.”
The defendants pleaded “Not Guilty” to the charges.
In view of the “non-guilty” plea, the Prosecution counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, urged the court to pick a trial date while asking that the defendants be remanded in prison custody pending the commencement of trial.
However, the counsels to both first and second defendants, A. Ihejerika and O. Mark, pleaded with the court to consider their bail applications which were filed respectively on Thursday, May 30 2019. The prosecution counsel, however, raised objection, stating that he was only served with the applications this morning and that it is right for him to go through them and respond accordingly.
He then asked the court for a short adjournment so that he can properly file a response to the applications.
Justice Affen, in his ruling, said that the prisons are fully congested with many awaiting trials and that there is no point sending more people there adding that the defendants be remanded in the EFCC’s custody and adjourned hearing to Monday, June 3, 2019, for consideration of the bail applications.
In another development, the Justice Affen also ordered that Yakubu Jekada, a former Plateau state coordinator of JAMB zonal office, also be remanded in the custody of the EFCC pending the hearing for his bail application fixed for Monday, June 3, 2019.
Jekada was arraigned by the EFCC on a 4-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and diversion of monies belonging to JAMB to his personal use.
Count 3 of the charge reads thus, “That you, Yakubu Jekada between 2009 and 2016 in Abuja and Plateau state within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court while being the State coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) Zonal office, and in such capacity entrusted with the dominion over certain properties to wit, N11,189,000.00 (Eleven Million, One Hundred and Eighty Nine Thousand Naira) being proceeds realized from the sales of e-facility cards belonging to JAMB committed criminal breach of trust by dishonestly using said funds and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Law.”
Jekada however pleaded “not guilty” and in this vein, the Prosecution counsel, Iheanacho prayed the court to pick a trial date and remand the defendant in prison custody pending the consideration of his bail application.
Counsel to the defendant, Emmanuel Sadiq, notified the court of the pending bail application which was filed on Thursday and asked that his client be released on bail.
Opposing the motion, Iheanacho told the court that he was just served the application after the charges have been read to the defendant. Thus, he will need to read through properly and file his response to the application.
