Some suspected kidnappers that had been terrorizing the residents of Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, have been arrested after they had abducted an eight year old girl.
It was gathered that the four suspected kidnappers abducted their victim, a pupil of St. Joseph’s Primary School on Wednesday afternoon, March 8th and took her to Bishiri village, in neighbouring Obanliku local government area.
The police, following a tip off about the whereabouts of the victim, stormed the compound and after a brief gun fight, subdued the kidnappers and arrested them. One of the suspects hails from Obudu while the other three are from Benue State.
A police officer was bitten by one of the kidnappers and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Two siblings, identified on Facebook as Anne Marie James and her brother Melvin James, have been linked to family stabbing case, which left them dead and also left their mum severely injured.
According to the Police who were called to the flat in Merry Hill, Wolverhampton, at 9.45am yesterday after receiving a 999 call about a domestic incident from someone inside, the incident by Melvin.
As Police arrived, stun grenades was used on Melvin, whose 33-year-old sister, Annie, was pronounced dead at the scene, while their mum who sustained serious stab wounds, was rushed to hospital and has undergone surgery but remains in a critical condition.
It was gathered that Melvin, who was already ‘detained’, then turned the knife on himself and died from wounds he sustained.
In a recent article published on its website, The Economist says the Nigerian economy has grown since acting president Yemi Osinbajo took over the mantle of leadership about a month ago.

EVER since word trickled out that Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s 74-year-old president, was not just taking a holiday in Britain but seeking medical care, his country has been on edge. Nigerians have bad memories of this sort of thing. Mr Buhari’s predecessor bar one, Umaru Yar’Adua, died after a long illness in 2010, halfway through his first term.
During much of his presidency he was too ill to govern effectively, despite the insistence of his aides that he was fine. In his final months he was barely conscious and never seen in public—yet supposedly in charge. Since he had not formally handed over power to his deputy, Goodluck Jonathan, his incapacity provoked a constitutional crisis and left the country paralysed.
There is nothing to suggest that Mr Buhari is as ill as Yar’Adua was. But that is because there is little information of any kind. His vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, insists that his boss is “hale and hearty”. Mr Buhari’s spokesman says his doctors have recommended a good rest. Yet even members of Mr Buhari’s cabinet have not heard from him for weeks, and say that they do not know what ails him or when he will return.
Such disclosure would be expected in any democracy. In Nigeria the need is even more pressing. Uncertainty is unsettling the fractious coalition of northern and southern politicians that put Mr Buhari into power. Nigeria is fragile: the split between northern Muslims and southern Christians is one of many that sometimes lead to violence. The country also faces a smouldering insurrection in the oil-rich Delta and an insurgency in the north-east by jihadists under the banner of Boko Haram (“Western education is sinful”).
Mr Buhari, an austere former general, won an election two years ago largely because he promised to restore security and fight corruption. Although his government moves at a glacial pace, earning him the nickname “Baba Go Slow”, he has wrested back control of the main towns in three states overrun by Boko Haram. Yet the jihadists still control much of the countryside, and the government has been slow to react to a looming famine that has left millions hungry.
On corruption, Mr Buhari has made some progress. A former national security adviser is on trial in Nigeria for graft, and a former oil minister was arrested in Britain for money laundering. So far, however, there have been no big convictions.
Mr Buhari’s main failures have been economic (see article). The damage caused by a fall in the price of oil, Nigeria’s main export, has been aggravated by mismanagement. For months Mr Buhari tried to maintain a peg to the dollar by banning whole categories of imports, from soap to cement, prompting the first full-year contraction of output in 25 years.
First, do no harm
With Mr Buhari in London, the country’s economic stewardship has, whisper it, improved a bit. Mr Osinbajo has allowed a modest devaluation and started on reforms aimed at boosting growth. This is already paying off. In February the government sold $1bn-worth of dollar-denominated bonds, its first foreign issue in four years. Demand was so great that investors bid for almost $8bn-worth of the notes, raising hopes of a second bond sale later this month. If his health recovers, Mr Buhari still has two years left in office.
He should focus on doing what he does best: providing the leadership his troops need to defeat Boko Haram and the moral authority to clamp down on corruption. And, noting how much better the economy is doing without him trying to command it like a squad of soldiers, he should make good on a long-forgotten electoral pledge to leave economic policy to the market-friendly Mr Osinbajo.

A 50-year-old Ghanaian man from Asuboi-Wawase in Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, has landed his 8-year-old daughter at the hospital after attacking her with a cutlass.
The victim was according to reports, crushing palm nuts with a friend of hers, but when her dad returned from the farm, and saw what they were doing, he yelled, chased and attacked her with a cutlass wounding her in the head.
According to the girl’s aunt, Comfort Dogah, she returned from a voyage on Saturday night and saw the cut on the girl the next day (Sunday).
Narrating the ordeal to Class FM, the victim said she never offended her dad saying
‘I was crushing palm nuts with my mates when he came threatening to beat us.
‘He got hold of my friend and beat her while I bolted; while I was running, he threw the cutlass to hit me,’ the eight-year-old narrated.
Yaw Dogah, the suspect, after committing the crime reportedly fled the area. The Suhum Municipal Police command has declared him wanted and the victim is currently on admission at the Suhum Government Hospital.

The actress and mother’s marriage to Dr. Churchill Olakunle Oladunni hit the rocks last month and since that time, the actress has been in a lamenting state as she shares photos and videos of abuses she allegedly suffered in the hands of her estranged husband.
She has also made several allegations which portrayed her husband as a ”woman beater, a liar and fraud.”
As Nigerians keep sympathizing with the controversial actress, here are six things gathered from her revelations as the real causes of the crash of her 17-month-old marriage.
1. Churchill allegedly abandoned Tonto and her son because of Rosaline.
Tonto said, “I am aware of her. I am aware that she is sleeping with my husband. I am aware that my husband is taking care of her. I am also aware that she is the reason that my husband abandoned his son and me for close to two months just before the Big Foundation thing we did in December” disclosed Tonto Dikeh in the interview.
“I am aware that’s the reason he abandoned his family because he took her on a trip. No she is not my husband’s sister. My husband is not her brother. She does not know me. Like I said I have not seen her before. I have never even spoken to my husband about her before but I do know their story. And I do know that they are in love.”
2. She was accused of pushing her mother-in-law down who it was alleged, caught her smoking.
And on this she said, “That is a lie from the devil. I am close to my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law has never ever seen me smoke. There are times when I am really, really sick. ‘Mum if you are watching you know this is true.
“There are times you have even offered me panadol. There are so many times you have offered me drugs that would have made my body better but I didn’t take because I knew I was breast-feeding’.”
“Every time my mother-in-law came to me and I was sick ‘I would tell her no mum I don’t want to take Panadol’, as little as Panadol, as little as Alabakun, as little as anything that would make me get my strength back. I would tell her I don’t want to take it. I didn’t know what it would do to my child,” she further said.
“My mother-in-law has never ever, and I am saying this with God put in this, that she has never ever caught me smoking. I did not push my my mother-in-law down.”
3. She was accused of taking hard drugs but she reportedly keeps a file of monthly drug tests and letters she writes to her son.
According to her, “Someone coming out to associate me with drugs as a mother. That hurts me so much because no one sees how good of a mother I am.
“Nobody knows the sacrifices I have made for my son. I have a file at home, I do a drug test almost every month and I write a letter to my son and I put it (breaks down in tears)
“I write a letter to my son every month on his birthday and I tell him how much he has changed my life, how much I am a better person because he is in my life.
“I tell him how much I have stopped so many things for him. That really destroyed me. It really broke me into a million pieces. That’s the worst thing I have heard.”
4. She alleged her husband has other children besides Andre.
Tonto said, “My son is not the first child my husband has. And that was one of the major concerns in my marriage, in the early part of it because he lied to me about not having a child.
“He even lied to me about not being married. I did not know he was married until the day they posted the picture of the wedding. He didn’t tell me he had a child. He always lied about it. I don’t know how I found out but I did find out.
“Recently two women have contacted me that they have children for my husband but I cannot verify
it.
“One of them said her child is 9 months old. The other said her child is 2 years but I cannot verify it just like I can’t verify the gay claims on him.
“I have no knowledge about it. I don’t know if it is true or not true. I don’t know anything about it.”
5. Her husband infected her with STDs.
She said, “There are some things I will not like to re-discuss. I did post something about the STD. I am not taking back my words because it is not a lie but I will not promote it” in reference to her claim that her husband gave her STDs.
“I will not go ahead and embarrass my husband in that manner even if I have. I will like that to just end,” she further said.
6. She said her husband constantly abused her, showing proofs.
She said, “The domestic violence is real. It’s real. How I lived to suffer it and go through it over and over again, I do not understand.
“A lot of people have blamed me. A lot of people have said a lot of things. I have read a lot of things.
“I stayed back in my marriage not because of my child but because I believe you cannot be abused or you cannot leave a child where there is abuse and you claim you are doing it for your child.
“No. I stayed because I was doing it for myself. I stayed because I loved my husband with all of my heart.
“I stayed because he had begged me to stay a couple of times. I stayed because I didn’t just want to give up. I didn’t want to give up on the marriage just like that. People change.
“Anytime something like this happens, my husband comes up with a pastor who is always in the house the next day or two days later who is begging, who is doing stuff. Yes but we have never had a real counseling.
The Lagos State Coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Sunday Aladegbaye, has assured intending candidates of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, of a hitch-free examination in 2017.
Speaking on the sideline of the Parents’ Forum organised by the Management of the King’s College in Lagos, Aladegbaye said there will be no compromise in the accreditation of centres to be used for this year’s UTME.
Aladegbaye disclosed that measures were being put in place to avoid technical hitches, ranging from malfunctioning of computers to poor power supply.
According to Aladegbaye,
“We have taken time to go round designated centres in states, in order to ascertain the level of functionality of their computers, the backups and other requirements.
“Where we find missing gap, we drop such centres immediately and those that meet requirements, we recommend them to management.
“We will continue to insist on accreditation of well-equipped centres; no more, no less.
“This is because, as a parent myself, I will not do anything that will compromise the future of my children.”

An Abuja Magistrate Court in Bwari has ordered the remand of a young boy who allegedly impregnated a 16-year-old Junior Secondary School student.
The young boy’s mother was also accused of threatening the girl if she failed to abort the pregnancy. The father of the girl told the court that the incident had forced the girl out of school.
He said the pregnancy was first suspected by the mother of the girl before it was later confirmed at a hospital.
He said the girl told her mother that she was impregnated by the accused, one Japhet Adams, who used to lure her into their compound any time her mother was away and had sexual intercourse with her.
The father of the girl further told the court that when the young boy was informed of the pregnancy, he accepted responsibility but his mother stood against it and she threatened the girl to abort it with a warning that if she failed to do so, she would curse her and the unborn child.
The young boy confessed to having affair with the girl and as well responsibility for her pregnancy while his mother denied threatening the girl.
The lawyer to the two accused made oral application for their bail, but the magistrate, Abdullahi Ahmad Ilelah, turned it down, requesting for written applications.
The case was adjourned to Monday, March 13 for hearing.
A fight ensued at the new Panteka market along the Nnamdi Azikiwe bypass in Kaduna after an Igbo man allegedly named his dog “Muhammad”.
The market was closed down by men of the Nigerian Police who restored peace after the fight broke out, Daily Trust reports.
Panteka market is a major spare parts centre which houses many mechanic garages in the state. According to an eyewitness, named Aminu Ibrahim, he said the trouble started when one Muhammad bought a dog and allegedly named it Ibere after an Igbo trader.
Ibrahim said:
“Since the boy named the dog after the trader, the trader had warned him on several occasions to rename the dog, but the owner of the dog Muhammad refused.
The Igbo trader, Ibere also bought a dog and named it Muhammad, this is when all hell was let loose.”
Subsequently, a fight erupted between Hausa and Igbo traders in the market which led to the closure of the market by the police.
As at the time of this report, the police spokesperson was not available for comments at the time of filing this report as he did not pick calls put across to his phone.

A depressed Nigerian man from Ado-Ekiti, Ariyo Olanrewaju Taiwo took his own life about two days ago after making the announcement on Facebook.
The reason for his action has now been revealed. Punch reports the whole story as thus:
“The twin brother and the wife of Taiwo Ariyo were in shock when the 34-year-old drank local insecticide, Sniper, in their presence after suffering a bout of depression.
Despite efforts to save his life, the victim died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Taiwo had expressed sadness over the alleged uncaring attitude of their United States of America-based father, Mr. Clement Ariyo.
Clement, a pathologist with the Red Cross Society, was said to have married two wives. While Taiwo’s mother had three children, the second wife had two.
It was alleged that Clement was always sending money to his second wife and her children while neglecting the three children of the first wife.
Punch learnt that Taiwo, who became depressed over the matter, headed for the house of his stepmother on Shaba Ojo Street, Igando, on Saturday.
The twin brother, Kehinde, was reported to have urged him to leave the place, but he refused. PUNCH Metro was told that Kehinde made a call to the victim’s wife.
On sighting the pregnant wife, the Premier Lotto agent drank the insecticide and slumped. He was rushed to the Igando General Hospital around 12.30am on Sunday and was referred to LUTH, where he died.
A member of the family, who begged not to be identified, told PUNCH Metro that the victim’s father was to blame.
He said, “The problem is that the father does not care for them. We had all talked to the man, but he didn’t listen. The whole thing got to Taiwo, but I counselled him to forget about his father.
“On that day, he said he would sacrifice himself for the other two children. He said maybe if he died, their father would wake up to the reality.”
The source added that the victim went to the house of his stepmother and refused to vacate the premises despite entreaties from the twin brother, Kehinde.
“Immediately he saw his wife, he dipped his hand into his pocket, brought out the Sniper and drank it.
“Kehinde raced out to get a cab to convey him to a hospital. He didn’t get a cab on time. We rushed him to the Igando General Hospital.
“Around 2.30am, a nurse said he was not responding to treatment and asked us to transfer him to LUTH,” he added.
PUNCH Metro learnt that at LUTH, the victim was turned back for lack of a bed space.
He was later admitted after a doctor intervened. The victim was said to have been confirmed dead around 6am on Sunday. The family source said when Clement was called that Taiwo had died, he asked the twin brother, Kehinde, to bury him.
The victim was said to have been buried on Tuesday.
“Since that day, the stepmother has not called to condole with us. On the night that the boy took Sniper, I was screaming on top of my voice and calling for help, but nobody came to our help,” he added.
When Punch contacted the victim’s father in the US, he wondered why he would be catering to a married man.
He described late Taiwo as “wayward,” saying he always gave him problems before his demise.
He said, “I did not take care of him? Care for a 34-year-old person that went to school and got married? A man that had children with different women? And now that he is dead, he has added more to my burden.
“Did you know that he had his first child 10 years ago? That child is now in Ado-Ekiti and I have been the one responsible for him. He had another child last year, but he denied the paternity. I am 66 years old and should be retired ordinarily; So how can the 34-year-old said I didn’t care about him? He was a controversial son for 34 years that he lived.
“I woke up on Saturday to see a suicide note that he sent to me. In the note, he said he would kill himself. When I saw the note, I immediately called his twin brother and told him to go after him. He said he wanted to get married, buy this and that. He even went ahead to post the same thing on Facebook.”
Clement said different women had called him to say they had relationship with the deceased, adding that one claimed that she had no fewer than 10 abortions for him and he still dumped her for another girl.
He said he called the victim when he came to Lagos last November and counselled him to get his act together.
“Instead, he lied to me that he wanted money to travel to see his son who was in Ado Ekiti and I gave him $100, which he changed to N37,500. I later learnt he didn’t visit the boy. At another time, I bought clothes for that boy, but Taiwo didn’t deliver them,” he added.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said he would call back, but he had yet to do so as of press time.

A Muslim teenager speculated to be about 17 years has reportedly received death threats after a video of her twerking with a masked man in the middle of a busy Birmingham city centre while passers-by gathered around to watch, went viral.
In the offending video, the girl is seen dancing and thrusting her derriere back and forth against the man’s crotch while clapping and singing along to Rihanna in the background.
The photo was shared on Facebook and enraged users poured their anger on her in the comments section, with most calling her names and saying she deserves to be killed, while a few people defended her and asked that she should not be judged harshly.
“Truly disgusting. Some people don’t understand the meaning of the veil,” one user wrote.
Later, a video emerged on YouTube of an anonymous girl, claiming to be the teenager in the footage. She was seen in the new video apologising for anyone she had offended.

According to Tonto, Rosaline Meurer is the reason her estranged husband Churchill abandoned her and his son. Rosaline, she said, has been having an affair with her husband, she even has pictures of them on a vacation together, something Churchill never did for her.
