Less than three weeks after Eze Patrick Okechukwu passed out of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), death gave him a close kiss.
Few days after he returned from Jigawa State, where he did his one year mandatory national service, armed herdsmen invaded his community, Nimbo in Uzo uwani LGA, Enugu State and chopped his body with a sword.
Over 20 people died in the gruesome attack, which left scores of victims bedridden with gunshot and machete wounds.
Eze, a graduate of Geology and Mining from the Enugu State University (ESUT) was in his father’s house when the assailants walked in. Seeing them with machetes and guns, he dashed out of the house but they went after him into the bush.
His struggle to escape was halted by a shrub that cut his two legs and threw him on the ground. His attackers drew their swords in fury, cutting his hands, head, legs and left him for dead.
When Sunday Sun visited him at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, where he was referred for treatment, he lay in pains, wrapped in bandages all over his body.
Looking frail and helpless, tears dropped from his eyes intermittently, as he nodded towards this reporter in greeting. He struggled to say a few words, biting his lips to suppress the pain from his aching wounds. With great difficulty, he said:
“It was a horrible experience. I saw the face of death. They cut me like wood and left when they thought I had died.” Efforts to engage him in further conversation were not fruitful as he quietly closed his eyes in pain.
His mother and other relatives, who had been waiting in anxiety at the hospital, recounted that the assailants were armed with sophisticated weapons.
“They almost killed my son. Only God saved him. He was chased into the bush where they overpowered him and descended on him with machetes on his head, hands, legs and back. It was at the same spot that they killed three persons, including a 70-year-old man. They thought my son was dead and left him. Later, my son was rescued and put in a wheelbarrow from the bush to the main road. He was rushed to Nsukka in a pool of blood,” she added.
It was gathered that the herdsmen spared women and children during the attack. One of the women that came face to face with the herdsmen told Sunday Sun that they ordered her back to her house, assuring her that they would not hurt women and children.
She said the assailants numbered about 15, explaining that about five of them were herdsmen, while others looked robust.
A reliable source said the herdsmen went into the premises of St Marys Catholic Church, but when they saw that the people were mostly women, they vandalized the louvers and other itmes and left without touching the women.
A former councilor of Nimbo Ward 2 and his father were the first victims. The councilor and his old father were stabbed repeatedly with swords. The old man died on the spot but his son was rushed to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment.

“Let’s assume you are a man, and according to their story, he is happily married inside his home with his family complete, and I walk into that home to forcefully take a man, able-bodied man, and a kid, away from somebody’s hand and you are there looking at me. “So, logically, if people actually sit down and think about it intelligently, how do you snatch somebody from somebody and the person is there looking at you?
“So when you see a man who has settled ties with a woman and decides to move on with his life and you feel that there is something in this man that you like and he likes you, is there a problem there? “I am not a kid. I am 38 years old. I am not about to start hiding myself’ she said.

Deputy Governor of Edo State Dr. Pius Odubu, yesterday escaped death by the whiskers when gunmen shot at him.
The incident happened at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Auchi as the deputy governor was receiving a delegation, The Nation reports.
The attack took place a few minutes after Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Odubu left a party organised by Damian Lawani, representative of the Estako Central Constituency in the House of Assembly.
The gunmen reportedly invaded the secretariat and opened fire on the deputy governor and others at the meeting.
Five persons were said to have been critically injured, including the Guard Commander of the Deputy Governor’s Police team who covered his boss during the invasion.

I got off the phone with @tiwasavage last night and I felt deflated. I went to bed immediately after, but sleep was far from me. I tossed and turned all night without successfully getting one wink of sleep. The 45 minutes I spoke to her haunted me, and our conversation replayed itself over and over again.
She was so polite, a well brought up Yoruba lady who was visibly hurt, but not for once was she rude to me. Our conversation was mostly in Yoruba and I couldn’t help but notice that despite the fact that she wasn’t happy with my previous post, she still addressed me with the ‘e’ the Yoruba tribe employ, when speaking to older people. Her tone was calm and she passed her message across to me with the utmost courtesy, showcasing her pristine upbringing. I sensed pain in her voice and it was that pain that kept me up. Tiwa is a good woman, a strong woman. I could see that she still cared about TJ when she asked if I had spoken to him.
I’m going to be 40 in a few days, and if there is anything I give myself credit for, it’s the fact that I am a good judge of character. What I felt when speaking to her was genuine. I wanted to slap myself for being bit insensitive in my last post but, I guess it’s too late for regrets now, it’s gone along with her interview and his posts, into the unforgiving archives of the Internet, never to be forgotten. As I started my drive towards @coolfmlagos this morning to preach on the gospel show #PraiseJam where I will be speaking till 11am, it occurred to me that we all have to stop blaming either party and focus on praying for both of them. T billz and Tiwa are both at a fragile state, and it is so unfortunate that this matter has been brought before a fanged public ready to tear us all up for their amusement. Like @official2baba said, don’t make jokes about a serious matter, instead, remember them in your prayers. I love you Tiwa, I love you Billz, there is a light at the end of this tunnel, GOD is your strength and he will see you through this!

Soldier Allegedly Shoot Dead Bride’s Mother In Delta.
It was quite tragic on Saturday morning when the mother of a bride was allegedly shot dead by a soldier at the Ekpan Junction, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta.
Vanguard reports that the deceased was on her way to the wedding ceremony of her daughter when the incident occurred. The first son of the deceased, Alero said a keke operator flouted the soldier’s order when he was flagged down and the soldier opened fire leading to the deceased death.
According to him, this reason is not enough for one of the soldiers to release bullets on my mother. The sister told newsmen at the Ekpan Police station that the killer-soldier had been whisked away by members of the JTF contrary to reports that he had been arrested.
She also said that colleagues of the killer-soldier at the roadblock had been taken to Warri Area Command for questioning.
“They have not arrested the soldier. JTF whisked him away. His colleagues at the road block together with him are now at Warri Area Command.
“It was my mother that was shot not my sister that is wedding today. She was coming for the wedding,” she said.
The Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Celestina Kalu, and the Warri Area Commander, Mohammed Muazu, could not be reached for comment.

Tiwa Salvage says she will always allow her estranged husband to have access to their son. As a Yoruba woman, she is totally in the wrong here. This is more so because the Yoruba people have three phases of marriage: the Introduction, the Engagement and the Registry, Church or Mosque Ceremony.
The most significant of the three stages is the engagement proper which is often conducted under the Yoruba Customary Marriage Act.
The Act states that the children of the union between a husband and a wife belong to the father and if the father dies, the children belong to his immediate family. Tiwa’s husband has all the rights over their child, according to the Yoruba culture and tradition, which are laws in Yoruba land.
However, this tradition is not the same as those of the White in America or the English from the United Kingdom, where more often than not it is the wife who has the custody of the children. In Yorubaland, it is the father who has the custody. Tiwa, therefore has no right whatsoever over the child of her union with the husband. She is in Lagos, Yorubaland and not in New York or London.
I have done this post to educate the gullible Yoruba Youth who may have watched Tiwa’s video. On reflection, I am, however disturbed on the mores and mishaps that increasingly afflict love and marriage among young Yorubas.
Our society expects us all to get married. With only rare exceptions, we all do just that. Getting married is a rather complicated business.
It involves mastering certain complex hustling and courtship games, the rituals and the ceremonies that celebrate the act of marriage, and finally the difficult requirements of domestic life with a husband or wife.
It is an enormously elaborate round of activities, much more so than finding a job, and yet while many resolutely remain unemployed, few remain unmarried.
Now all this would not be particularly remarkable if there were no question about the advantages, the joys, and the rewards of married life, but most Yoruba, even young Yoruba, know or have heard that marriage is a hazardous affair.
Of course, for all the increase in divorce, there are still young marriages that work, unions made by young men and women intelligent or fortunate enough to find the kind of mates they want, who know that they want children and how to love them when they come, or who find the artful blend between giving and receiving.
It is not these marriages that concern us here, and that is not the trend in Yoruba today. We are concerned with the increasing number of others who, with mixed intentions and varied illusions, grope or fling themselves into marital disaster.
They talk solemnly and sincerely about working to make their marriage succeed, but they are very aware of the countless marriages they have seen fail.
But young people in particular do not seem to be able to relate the awesome divorce statistics to the probability of failure of their own marriage. And they rush into it, in increasing numbers, without any clear idea of the reality that underlies the myth.
I can only hope Tiwa and her husband find the grace to work things out on their own.

Today, Davido’s controversial team member – Special Spesh decided to make a mistake by wading into the sad drama involving Tiwa Savage and her husband – Tee Billz.
“Lie detector in Naija!!” He wrote on Snapchat, and in another post, added, “Tee aint holy but all this is long and wrong. My n*** is not perfect but don’t paint him like this. Nobody holy o.”

I have nothing but love for you, but after I watched all 45 mins or so of your interview, I am a bit disappointed.
Tiwa, I know it hurts when a relationship breaks down, and those accusations T Billz made were extremely hurtful, nonetheless, I believe you could have employed caution when responding, since according to you, he was unstable and suicidal.
In law, if for instance, you walk in on your man in bed with another woman and you shoot him on the spot, you could get a lighter sentence, if your legal counsel argues provocation. On the flip side, if you walk out of the scene to get a gun and then launch an attack, it’s now considered premeditated.The fact that you granted a ‘pitch perfect’ interview, with a flawless visual background and superb audio quality, in my opinion looks a bit premeditated.
If you had denied all his accusations and asked to swear on ayelala or amadioha or sango as against the lie detector test, since on no instance has a polygraph ever been used in Nigeria, and if afterwards you had requested for privacy, as you deal with such a sensitive issue, this matter would have been laid to rest. How are you going to tell Nigerians not to talk about issues you ‘used your own hand’ to make public? This could only serve to further delay your healing.
Even though my prayer is for your issues to be resolved and for joy to return to your home, the breakdown of a marriage is not the end of the world, I have been through it and my world did not end. However, do you realize that the interview you gave could lead to the end of TJ’s world? Who is now going to hire, work with, or have any business dealings with an unstable, adulterous, fraudulent, cocaine sniffer who cannot manage money and has his priorities misplaced? Whether you like it or not, that is what the interview has delineated him to be. In furtherance to this, if he was suicidal before, this interview is only going to make him even more suicidal!
I know you both love Jamil so in all this drama, lets be very careful to shield him, as the Internet never forgets and his friends and classmates will always have his father’s tweets along with your interview as points of reference.

Kate Henshaw Defends Tiwa Savage Following Tell-All Interview.
It was released yesterday of an interview was which Tiwa Savage explosively spilled the beans on her marriage to Tee Billz after he ranted on his Instagram about his own problems with her.
The singer opened up on how her marriage had even ended over a while now, talking on her husband’s unfaithfulness, how he stole from her and has not spent a dime on their son.
She also revealed he took cocaine and his recent outburst on social media has only made it easier for her to walk away from him.

Thief Caught After Falling In Love With Victim’s Daughter.
A notorious burglar, identified as Samson Ugbusun, has been arrested after he made love overtures to the daughter of one of his victims.
Samson, a bricklayer, had stolen two mobile phones from his victims after breaking into their homes at Etete in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.
After the successful operation, he called a number belonging to the daughter of one of his victim and invited her to spend the night at his apartment, the Nation reports.
Samson was nabbed after the girl, who had played along, revealed his whereabouts. Speaking to newsmen after his arrest, Samson said he took to crime to raise money to carry out the burial ceremony of his late father.
According to him:
“I stole handsets at Etete, through the window around 11pm. I removed the handset through the window of the house by tearing the net. This is my first time.”
“I saw her (victim’s daughter) number on the phone I stole. I called the girl and told her that I love her. She came and spent the night with me and went back to school.
Woman Who Cut Unborn Baby From Womb Of Pregnant Stranger Jailed For 100 Years.
A woman convicted of cutting a foetus from a stranger’s womb after luring her to her home with an online advert for free maternity clothes has been jailed for 100 years, Daily Mirror reports.
Dynel Catrece Lane stabbed expectant mum Michelle Wilkins with a kitchen knife and ripped out her unborn baby in the gruesome attack in March last year.
Wilkins, who was seven months pregnant, survived the stabbing at Lane’s home in Longmont, Colorado, but her baby daughter died.
Lane, 35, was convicted of attempted murder, assault and unlawfully terminating a pregnancy in February following a trial in Boulder.
Prosecutors said Lane faked a pregnancy and then, after her husband became suspicious about whether she in fact was carrying a child, she took out an advertisement on the website Craigslist to lure a pregnant woman with an offer of maternity clothes.
Wilkins testified that when she went to Lane’s home, responding to the advertisement, the older woman bludgeoned, stabbed and choked her until she passed out.
When her husband returned home, Lane told him that she suffered a miscarriage and he rushed her to a hospital along with the dead foetus, police said.

“Jay was involved in the creation of Lemonade and knew every song Bey was going to release. He knew the lyrics; he knew the implications. He had to approve the songs before release. Jay is a very smart businessman…Bottom line is that they are both really smart and they both saw dollar signs.”

“Beyoncé is amazed on how everything turned out. She worked day and night on this. She celebrated with family; Jay was by her side. When Beyoncé put this album together she was aware of the message she was sending out. She knew that people were going to dissect each word. Beyoncé wanted to connect with women’s emotions with this album.”
