Nollywood star actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde on Sunday February 14 officially launched a new event centre in Lagos. She also used the occasion to mark her birthday in Nigeria and celebrate the lovers’ day with few friends and family.
The unveiling was attended by top Nigerian celebs including Denrele Edun, Bimbo Akintola, Freeze amongst others.
The event centre, named ‘Double Doors’ is situated, at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja and is already opened for business.
After initially refusing to comment, CEO of Luxury Real Estate Company, Sujimoto Construction Company, Sijibomi Ogundele, has finally decided to clear the air on his magnanimity to Olajumoke.
What stirred your interest in Olajumoke the Bread Seller?
The Olajumoke story could be any Lagosian’s story. Lagos has a population of about 21 million people. Only 15-20% of these people are the actual indigenes of Lagos.
The remaining majority left their comfort zones to come look for opportunities in Lagos. My mother came to Lagos when she was just like Olajumoke, selling Bread and Bournvita.
She realised that there was more profit in Bournvita than in Bread. So, she quickly focused on Bournvita and that little business expanded, transforming her into a Distributor for Cadbury and one of the top five Distributors for Nestle.
About 16 million people living in Lagos today can relate to Olajumoke’s story, because they are people who left their cities to look for that great opportunity Lagos has for us.
Can you tell us about the luxury accommodation you gave her?
It is very important for people not to misinterpret our true intentions. We did not buy Olajumoke an apartment. We have paid for rent for a few years.
We are in the process of furnishing it tastefully. Someone might say after furnishing it, what next? What if she cannot renew her rent? Should in three or four years the rent expire and God forbid she has no capacity to renew her rent, are we going to leave her? Of course not, we have an obligation to extend it until she finds her feet.
The Olajumoke story is a lifetime project for us at Sujimoto. It is our intention to help her discover her true potential and translate them into success.
It is our intention to give educational scholarships to her children. We will also help empower her husband to find employment. But first, we will send him for proper training to enhance his existing skills, because an aluminum fabricator in Osun state may not have the same level of expertise as the one in Lagos.
We are not going to let Olajumoke be a celebrity just in the news. She will be an empowered Celebrity. All this promises we shall achieve before the end of 2016.
What can Nigerians do for Olajumoke?
As a nation, it is our dreams that unite us and it is its opportunities that empower us. The patriotic spirit telling us we are our brothers’ keepers, is what makes this nation the greatest in Africa.
If a man is in Borno state cannot afford food, that matters to me, even if he is not my biological brother. If a lady in Enugu finds it difficult to pay for her daughter’s school fees.
It pains me because her daughter might as well be my sister. If there is a bread hawker from Osun who has no education or accommodation but has hope that the great city of Lagos can give her the opportunity to achieve her dreams, why should I not want to be the first to provide these basic needs for her?
I can’t solve all of her problems, but I will do my bit and hope society takes it up from there.
The Thomases and the Pessimists: What’s your opinion?
We need to get rid of the Thomases among us who only see the bad in every situation. In today’s world with all the need for prayer in this nation, there is no room for pessimism.
The only way this nation can move forward is to start being optimistic and have faith in the unknown; to have courage in the existing and show appreciation to the few, instead of condemnation.
People are more attracted to unrewarding conversations. What did you give her? What did you do for her? Where did you send her? It is important for us as a nation to start appreciating the good done by a few people who care enough to do them.
An average Nigerian is a giver, that is why people give so much to churches and other religious organisations.
I want to believe that the greatness of this nation derives from its peoples’ ability to be appreciative of the very little things or the kind gestures of the good Samaritans.
In recent time the light system has improved greatly under the new government. Though some areas in the government are still affected, but the change is tremendous.
Popular actress Rukky Sanda recently took to her page to lament about the power supply faced at her area.
She made it known she spends lots of money on petrol and diesel as generator and inverter is on a rotational basis daily.
The actress who said there have been no light for 72 hours at a stretch in 6months, seems to be fed up as she is on a verge of considering relocating any time soon.
Am thinking of relocating – Rukky Sanda laments about bad electricity supply.
A one month old baby has who was abandoned by her unknown mother has been rescued and brought back to life.
A leader of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Suleiman Badmus, rescued the baby, after sighting her in Amuwo Odofin, and handed her over to the police.
The baby is now being cared for by a woman police sergeant, Pamela Nwabinye, who has since the discovery, been playing the role of mother to the baby.
Olabisi, a younger sister to the OPC leader, who rescued the baby, said “The baby was found close to where I sell herbs at Amuwo-Odofin. One of the OPC members heard the baby’s cries and called my brother, Badmus. The baby was inside a carton.
When I saw her, I was shocked. I felt whoever abandoned her must be crazy. Mosquitoes had bitten her face. Why would any woman abandon her baby after she had carried the pregnancy for 9 months?” Sergeant Nwabinye was said to have bought new sets of clothes, flask, feeding bottle for the baby.
A police source at FESTAC police station said: “That’s how Pamela behaves with every baby rescued and brought to the station. She goes all out to mother the baby. Pamela spends her money a lot on abandoned kids. She likes kids a lot.”
The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), on Monday, threatened that if anything happens to its detained leader, Director of Radio Biafra, Mr Nnamdi Kanu following the allegations that he was being denied access to food and toiletries and had been subjected to serious intimidation and harassment by some prison officials in Kuje Prison, that the action, if true, would attract a protest never heard of in Nigeria before.
Addressing newsmen in Nnewi, Anambra state, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Officer, Mr Emma Powerful, claimed that the inhuman treatment being meted to Kanu was meant to demoralise him…
“as directed by the Federal Government’s agents, who are now convinced that he will be set free by the court at the end of the day and they now resorted to denying him access to food in order to starve him to death.” The Sun reports.
Similarly, Ogirishi Igbo, Igbo spiritual leader, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka has appealed to the federal government to, unconditionally release Mr Kanu without further delay, so that Igbo elders could talk with him on his group’s agitation for Biafra. He added that the agitation for Biafra would be more pronounced, if anything happened to him in prison.

The forward quite literally passed up the perfect chance to score his 300th La Liga goal by tapping the ball to his team-mate to fire home
Lionel Messi repeated Johan Cruyff’s famous penalty routine by passing to Luis Suarez from the penalty spot during Barcelona’s 6-1 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.
The 28-year-old scored the opening goal of the game – his 299th league goal – and was then handed the perfect opportunity to fire home his 300th strike from the penalty spot.
But just as he appeared set to convert, the Argentina captain instead passed the ball to Suarez, who fired home to complete his hat-trick.
Further goals from Ivan Rakitic and Neymar completed a resounding 6-1 win as the Catalans tightened their grip on top spot in La Liga.

Hennur police have launched a manhunt for a Nigerian man, identified only as Osas, for allegedly attacking 30-year-old Ugandan national Shakira Nsonko on February 10, in Bengalulu, India.
Osas, it is alleged, attacked her with a knife at an African eatery when she refused to pay for his drink. Hennur police have taken up the case under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 324 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt using a dangerous weapon) against Osas, a resident of Kukkenahalli.
In her complaint, Shakira has stated that she was at the mess with a friend, Gifletin, when Osas asked her to buy him drinks.
When she refused, he abused and slapped her, she has complained. To escape his continued assault, she locked herself in a room and called a friend, Tony. That did not deter Osas, who waited and slashed her with a knife when she ventured out of the room.
Passports and other documents of the two are being verified by the police. Consul of Rwanda, Mohan Suresh, who visited Shakira Nsonko, told Bangalore Mirror that he wanted to ascertain if she was from Rwanda.
He said the two knew each other, and that she was an illegal immigrant from Uganda.
Meanwhile, DCP Satish Kumar informed media that Shakira initially claimed she was involved in an accident in which she got hurt.
It was only after doctors at MS Ramaiah Hospital informed the police that the wound could be the result of stabbing that she revealed the stabbing.

A 26-year-old Ghanaian-born Canadian man named Gyimah Andrew Boateng has been arrested and is currently facing charges in Toronto, Canada, for packaging rice and selling it off as iPhone.
According to PeaceFmOnline, the suspect sold the first ‘iPhone’ to an unsuspecting buyer who saw an advert on the sale of the phone on Kijiji, an advertising platform.
The victim then met Boateng in the area of Islington Avenue and Dixon Road in Toronto and gave him money for the iPhone6.
According to the Police, when the buyer opened the box, the only thing inside was rice. Another person had also reportedly fell victim to the same trick earlier this month, the police reported. Gyimah was arrested in connection with both incidents.
He is facing two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of false pretence under $5,000, and two counts of breaching a court order.
In Nigeria, the sort of scam Gyimah tried to pull is quite common. Various Nigerians have fallen victim of this scam especially at popular technology marketplace, Computer Village, where fufu and rice are packaged as laptops and phones and sold to innocent buyers.
Rihanna highly anticipated Grammy performance was cancelled due to bronchitis. She actually arrived at the venue of the awards, the Staples Center, but did not walk the red carpet. She went straight to rehearsals but left.
A rep for Rihanna tells TMZ the singer took antibiotics for three days leading up to the show, but they didn’t work.
Rihanna was then examined by a doctor at her rehearsal Monday, who decided to put her on vocal rest for 48 hours because the singer was at risk of damaging her vocal cords. The singer arrived at the Staples Center but did not walk the red carpet. She went to rehearsals and left.
Sources connected to the production told TMZ, Rihanna has been struggling with and is on meds. A doctor on site recommended that she pull the plug on the performance because it could permanently damage her vocal cords.
Rihanna wanted to perform but reluctantly decided she had to listen to her doctors. She left Staples and is going home.
She was going to sing “Kiss It Better.” She even rehearsed twice but in the end the show just could not go on.
When you’re BIG, you’re BIG, nothing surprises you no more, nothing looks expensive to you no more. This is the now story of popular Blogger, Linda Ikeji.
Apparently, before now, some fans have always been tormenting the ex-model who is fond of posting her shoes and bag collections on Instagram, for not having a Birkin bag. A Birkin bag is a very expensive and high end designer bag by Hermes used mostly by Celebrities. (The price ranges from $11,500 to $150,000)
There is usually a long list of clientele and waiting period which could be up to 3 years before a person can purchase one Birkin bag.
Some have even reported that a person can only buy one Birkin bag per year and even Kim Kardashian waited for years before she could own a Birkin bag.
But as fate would have it, Linda eventually got not just one but two and as usual showed them off on Instagram.
Some of her fans reacted by calling the bags fake and she replied: “I’m too rich to buy fake”
