Father of the 20-month-old baby, Opeyemi Ogundele, who was allegedly stolen at a christening ceremony in Ogun State on Sunday, Daniel Ogundele, said his child is still alive and in the den of suspected kidnappers.
Aggrieved Ogundele said as at 10:00pm on Monday when he allegedly had a phone conversation with an Ifa priest, Chief Olansile Ifayemi, who was accused of masterminding the mysterious disappearance of the child has told him that his missing toddler was alive in his custody.
The baby was said to have been kidnapped about 1:30pm at the christening organised by the family of Mr. Olusola Osunleke for their newborn daughter. In the process of searching for the baby, residents discovered a suspected ritualists’ den in the area, which was adjacent to Osunleke’s house.
The discovery made angry residents to storm the area and vandalise the building, wherein human body parts, human effigy, fetish objects and masquerade regalia, among others, were found. But speaking yesterday, the father of the missing toddler, said he succeeded in reaching Chief Ifayemi on telephone on Monday night. Ogundele stated that the Ifa priest confirmed that the “stolen baby” was in his custody at Isabo area of Abeokuta and that the child was alive.
“We got his phone number and called him on Monday night . The priest said my child was still alive and with him at Isabo. He claimed that he was in Isabo area of Abeokuta. This was around 10 pm on Monday. He said nothing is wrong with my boy. He just asked us to stop people from destroying his house,”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, said he was not aware of the claims of the toddler’s father that the baby was with the suspected ritualist.

All Progressives Congress (APC) has blasted the allegations by the PDP stating that the Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, is a card-carrying member of the party (APC).
They reacted to the effect in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday, the 30th of July, 2015, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, challenged the PDP to publish any evidence it may have to confirm their allegations.
The statement reads:
”In the absence of that, the PDP must call another press conference to publicly apologize to all Nigerians for engaging in barefaced lies,
”We know that the psyche of the PDP has been badly affected by its loss of power at the centre. Even the party itself has admitted that much. That situation has now been compounded by the fact that the party is broke. It is therefore not a surprise that it is no longer able to think straight. The reality of its new situation is just beginning to dawn on it.
”But we warned the PDP early on that being in opposition is not a walk in the park. We warned that while the party was used to eating its bread with butter on both sides, it will now be lucky to even have bread to eat,”
It also warned the PDP to spend more time in patching its tattered and battered umbrella than acting as a cog in the wheel of progress of the new Administration.
Two people were left dead on Thursday, the 30th of July, 2015 in Ezillo community, Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State after allegedly consuming a fresh fish which is said to be forbidden in that area.
Another victim was also said to have become blind after eating the said fish. It was gathered that, the victims (names withheld) are labourers who were hired by one Mr. Alieze for a construction work.
Vanguard spoke to an eye witness who gave his name as Mrs. Odoh Onyinyechi that the victims who decided to go on break while working at the site, went to the near-by stream where they harvested the said fish. The specie of the fish is forbidden by the community. She said

A Plane wreckage, discovered off the coast of the Africa is said to be consistent with the missing Malaysian Plane, flight MH370.
Reports claim that, investigators confirm the debris, which was discovered close to the island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, is that of a Boeing 777.
The Malaysia Airlines jet – also a Boeing 777 – is said to have come down in the same ocean on March 8 last year.
CNN reports that Officials at Boeing have assessed photographs of the wreckage and agreed it is consistent with a 777 flaperon, part of the plane’s wing…
CNN added that there is a “unique element’ to the Boeing 777 flaperon which is apparent in the photographs, although they did not elaborate on what the detail is.
The plane was flying from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to Beijing, China, when it is thought to have come down in the Indian Ocean on March 8 last year.There were 239 passengers and crew – most of whom were from China – on board when it disappeared.
Following the Economic Financial Crime’s Commission, EFCC’s invitation of Senate president, Bukola Saraki‘s wife, the National Chairman of the All Peoples Congress, Chief John Oyegun has exonerated the party from the current travails of Toyin Saraki.
Last week, the anti-grant agency recent arrested Mrs. Saraki of on issues of money laundering. However, many fingered the APC as being behind what they called a ‘witch hunt’ based on the way her husband assumed leadership of the Senate, against the wish and directive of the party.
But speaking with Journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Oyegun said:
“I want to assure you without doubts that the APC absolutely has nothing to do with the matter. She’s not on trial by the way. It is an investigation that has to do with the Senate President’s wife.“You saw all the speculations in the media. As a matter of fact, this could have been triggered by the opposition party itself. The PDP has its branch in Kwara.
“They have to be nudged to make a denounce that they were not the originators of the petition or whatever triggered this investigation.“We are completely, totally, absolutely, innocent of it. What we have not done like in the PDP days is to rush and interfere with the processes of the EFCC which our president has made quite clearly. Everybody should be ready to carry out their legitimate functions without interference. The EFCC is doing what it thinks it has to do.”
Speaking on the crisis that rocked the National Assembly and in particular, the House of Representatives, Oyegun expressed happiness that the issue had been amicably resolved.Oyegun also commended what he called the patriotism of Speaker, Yakubu Dogara for toeing the party’s line eventually.
“The misunderstanding in the House of Representatives has been very very amicably resolved thanks to The intervention of Mr. President who again made it quite clear with everybody, that there is no alternative but to listen to what the party says.“I want to emphasise the fact that all of us were what we were, what we are thanks to the platform that the party provided for everybody.“I think his message resonated very intensive with all the members of the House. He still did not interfere. I want to make that very very clear and his parting words to us was that the presiding leadership of the House and the party should go and resolve whatever issues there are that was militating against the resolution of the problem and that is what exactly happened.
“When we were leaving there I promised, the press was very anxious to hear that A, B and C have been appointed to whatever positions but that is not what happened. I promised that within a few hours, 4 hours as I said definitely by the next morning, the nation will be glad knowing that this issue would have been resolved and put behind us.
“We left there into consultations and discussions with the presiding officers of the House of Representatives.
“Let me take this opportunity to pay tribute to their maturity to their sense of responsibility, tribute to their loyalty of the party and above all tribute to their sense of general good meaning their patriotism displayed by the Speaker and his Deputy. It did not take long, necessary concessions that had to be made were made.

Precisely two months after losing power at the national level and in majority of the states, the national leadership of the former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has concluded plans to sack half of its workforce.
The decision of the National Working Committee of the party was communicated by National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo to all its directors.
Oladipo made the party’s decision known via a memo dated July 29, 2015, which was directed to “all directors and PS/DD/HOD/SAs/PAs and Establishment Staff” of the party in Abuja.
It was titled “Re-organization and restructuring of staff at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Oladipo said the decision to cut down on the number of staff and other measures were taken at the 406 meeting of the NWC, where he said the report “on the reorganization and restructuring of staff at the national secretariat” and decisions was approved.
Apart from the reduction in the number of the staff on the payroll at the party’s headquarters, he said the salaries and allowances of those to be left behind would also be cut by as much as 50 per cent.
He listed the decisions to include “reduction of the allowance of all NWC members by 50 per cent and reduction in the number of security personnel attached to the national officers by 50 per cent.”
Other measures included “reduction of the salaries and allowances of all staff (Establishment and Staff of NWC members) by 50 per cent, effective August, 2015.
Oladipo added that “Establishment staff who would remain are required to obtain individual letter of re-validation from their state chapters within one month of this circular as to their suitability for service at the national secretariat.”
Before the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was the presidential candidate of the party, by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, the PDP was usually being funded by the Presidency.
Apart from this, it also got money from the state governors, majority of whom were unable to deliver their states to the party during the last elections.
The party also got money from selling of forms to aspirants. But a source within the party said the “party lacks transparency and proper accountability.”
Investigations by our correspondent indicated that the decision to reduce the staff strength of the party was taken about a month ago by its NWC.
The NWC was said to have been angered by the decision of the workers of the party to collect furniture allowance.Besides, the members of staff of the party were said to be privy to several withdrawal of money by the NWC members.
A senior staff of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity said,
“We are in trouble in this party. The NWC members are lords unto themselves.
“There is no one to control them and the finances of the party. They have paid themselves several allowances. Even during the last Sallah break, they took money.
“But because we demanded for our furniture allowance, see the memo they gave us. The idea behind this is to sack us and then they will bring in their cronies.”

Poor 41-day-old baby, Zainab Olajide, has been sent back to where she came from, spending little time on this earth, after she was allegedly poisoned by her father, Kazeem Olajide, in a keen attempt to divorce his wife.
The incident happened at about 07:00am on Friday in the Lemode area of Ogun State.
According to Punch, the mother, Abosede Ogundare, had left Zainab with Kazeem to sweep the compound only to come back and met the baby with foams gushing out from her mouth.
It was learnt that Ogundare alerted neighbours to the incident having found a bottle containing pesticide with her husband.
Zainab was said to have been rushed to a hospital in the community, where she eventually died.
The suspect, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, attempted to flee, but was held by residents, while the landlord of the house reported the case to the monarch of the community, Oba Solomon Sokunbi.
It was gathered that the father was handed over to policemen at the Agbado Police Division after he confessed to the crime before the monarch.
A resident, who identified himself only as Biodun, said Kazeem had been threatening to divorce his wife before the baby’s untimely death.
He said, “He doesn’t love the woman and has been trying to divorce her. He poisoned the innocent baby to actualise his mission. They recently moved to this estate. She was their only child.”
The landlord of the house, who did not want his name in print, said the suspect had denied being Zainab’s father prior to the incident.
“Three days before the incident, Kazeem (Olajide) was looking for a pair of his slippers. When he did not find it on time, he started raining curses. I called him by his daughter’s name, and tried to caution him, but he warned me not to call him by her name again. It was when the incident happened that I realised he might have intentionally killed the child.”
Sokunbi, the Oba of Ijoko-Lemode, said Kazeem owned up to the act, claiming that he was pushed by the devil. He said he had been following the case to ensure that the suspect was brought to justice.
He said,
“It was the landlord who came to report the case to me and I directed my chiefs to bring him and the wife to the palace. I asked the husband and he confessed. He said it was the handiwork of the devil.
“I called the police from the Agbado Police Division to arrest him. They said he had been transferred to the state command headquarters. I have been following the case. This is a pure murder case and I want the police to duly prosecute the suspect and let him face the law.”
The monarch added that Kazeem’s wife told him in the presence of his chiefs that she saw the bottle with him two days before the incident.
He said, “The woman thought the bottle contained herbs. She said she left the child with him to sweep the compound, only to return and met Zainab gasping and foaming in the mouth. She said she smelled pesticide in the baby’s mouth.”
Nigeria has lost one of its lionized traditional rulers, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuwade, who died on Tuesday, 28th of July, 2015.
The traditional ruler reportedly died in the United Kingdom after reports that he was flown out of the country when he slumped in his hometown on Thursday.
The king emerged as ruler in December, 1980. He was the fiftieth ruler of Ife, a town which is referred to as the origin of the Yorubas.
Following the reports of how aviation officials embarrassed former First Lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan by not allowing her access to the VIP Lounge in the Port Harcourt airport, The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has refuted these reports that the former first lady was embarrassed like that.
They claim that the convoy carrying the wife of the former President, Dame Patience Jonathan, was halted from taking her to the foot of the aircraft on the tarmac of the Port Harcourt International Airport.
In a statement on Tuesday, FAAN described the reports as misleading and mischievous.
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Yakubu Dati, said the security officials explained to Dame Jonathan’s team why her convoy was stopped, adding that the officials were only abiding by international safety standards.
“The former First Lady’s convoy was only denied access to the foot of the aircraft during boarding formalities at the airport in line with international aviation best practices, strictly for safety reasons, as prescribed by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Our security officials explained this fact to details of the former First Lady.
“We wish to recall that former President Goodluck Jonathan, in his recent trips from the same airport, had had to walk to the aircraft from the protocol lounge, in recognition of this ICAO regulation.”“We wish to state that no such thing happened as Dame Jonathan, like other family members of former Presidents and other designated principal officers of government, are officially entitled to the usage of airport VIP and protocol lounges under the management of FAAN.”
