“How Basketmouth ‘betrayed’ me in 2006” – Comedian, AY opens up on beef with colleague Basketmouth (video)

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, AY, has spoken candidly about the genesis of his feud with colleague, Basketmouth.

Recall that AY, during an Instagram question and answer session in 2022, said Basketmouth has an “uncontrollable superiority complex.”

Not stopping there, he noted that he (AY) had to avoid Basketmouth’s “incessant childishness” for his own sanity.

“I don’t have issues with him. But people having unnecessary issues with you is the price you sometimes pay for being progressive. He has been battling with his uncontrollable SUPERIORITY COMPLEX for the longest. So avoiding his incessant childishness only became necessary for my own sanity.” AY replied a fan who asked if he had issues with Basketmouth.

Well, shedding light on the controversial statement in a recent chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, AY revealed his issue with Basketmouth started in 2006.

He narrated how he had gone to stand in for Basketmouth at an event that he was supposed to pay him N30,000 for, but Basketmouth lied to him that the event host wasn’t pleased with his job to avoid paying the money.

Read his full narration below.

“In 2006, (Basketmouth) usually will get gigs Iike weddings- multiple gigs on a Saturday, maybe 2/3 weddings. So what he used to do at that point in time was to attend one, then at a point, leave the venue and catch up in the other venue and then you will need someone else to stand in for you. That was the opportunity 1 got from him of which I am very appreciative of till date.

“Now, Something funny happened. One of the gigs per say, I got his endorsement to go stand in. Usually what we get at that time is N30,000 and 30,000 at that time was everything to me. 30,000 would buy me my pack of indomie, recharge cards, fuel for my 1 better pass my neighbor generator and then opportunity to pay just one or two people to join me to do one or two skits that I can just quickly put out.

“I got this job and the people weren’t too happy to see me around the venue because they were expecting a Basketmouth to come. Long story short, the guy was later happy after the performance. There was an exchange of contacts. Then I left. Two weeks running, I haven’t seen 30k. Because I didn’t see the 30k, and I was starving in lponri, I decided to ask for 30K and he said this person hasn’t remitted, this person hasn’t paid, you they’ re not happy because of this and all of that.

“And then me l was like, ahahn… but this person na, shebi you tell me say you were impressed and happy? Give my oga hin money na, make my oga take settle me and all of that. Me,I dont care if you give Basket 100k for the job but my 30k is my 30k.

“It was very funny to now hear from them knowing that this full payment has been made long before the event.

“I said ‘0-kay, is that the situation?’. So I forwarded this one’s message to this one and vice versa. So they now started fighting each other and all of that. 1 didn’t do that because I wanted to get at Basketmouth per say. I did that because I was hungry, I was hustling and needed food on the table at the time.”

“My biggest fear is that his family members may not accept me because of my height but I think love conquers all” – Lady writes

The National Youth Service member, Ruth Innocent who gained recognition online after posting pictures of herself and her tall partner, has voiced worry that she wouldn’t be welcomed by his family.

The University of Calabar alumna shared her opinions in a conversation as she recalled how they first met at the NYSC orientation center in Bayelsa State but that she was later transferred to Delta State.

According to Ruth, they were not friends initially but after he put her on his shoulder to enable her to get a clearer view during an event in camp, they got close.

In her words;

“We started getting attention and favor in camp. People started calling us a couple. When we went to the market, people gave us discounts. We got special attention. I started liking him to the point that each time I was outside my hostel and didn’t see him, I would call to ask him where he was. We became close and I started giving him the green light. When we left the camp, we kept in touch and decided to take the relationship seriously. Since we couldn’t see, I kept in touch through calls.
I have spoken with his sister on the phone. I also spoke with his friends. My biggest fear is that his family members may not accept me because of my height but I think love conquers all. But I don’t think I have any worry about his height; I have always wanted a man that is taller than I am so that our children won’t be too short.”
It would make sense if his family should consider someone who shares a future with him (Philip), someone who completes him. They may think I am not tall but some ladies are not tall but have the characteristics of a lady he wants. Some may think a lady is not compatible with a guy because she is not tall; so, they focus on one (percent), which is the height, and neglect the 99 (percent), which may be other things like humility and fear of God. People should not focus on height; height should not be a problem. They should focus on other things.”

“I want to be appreciated for my talent not my body” – Actress, Mo Bewa

Nollywood actress, Omobewaji Oyediji, popularly known as Mo Bewa, has stated that she offers more than just a hot body.

She claimed that she is talented and disregards people who prefer to pay attention to her sex allure over her ability to perform on screen.

In a recent interview with The Punch, Bewaji said that she shouldn’t be held accountable for God’s decision to endow her with a beautiful physique.

She said;

“Sorry to those who choose to focus on my sex appeal at the expense of my talent. I am a fantastic actress. But, being sexy is not the only good thing about me. I have so much to offer with the talents God has blessed me with. I don’t even pay attention to those who choose my sex appeal over my talent. It is not my fault that God decided to make me look this good.”
My experience in the movie industry has been alright. I did not exactly have a soft landing. Things were tough in the beginning; but with consistency, diligence and God, things are much better now.”
it is tough for actresses to find love. Popular culture and society in general make some people feel that being an actress in Nigeria is not a noble job. It is unfortunate that most men are buying into that too.
However, I believe that when one find one’s man, he will understand. I cannot be with a man who would judge me because of my work.”

Young lady confused as boyfriend asks her to forgo scholarship in Canada for him

A Nigerian woman has revealed she has to make a difficult decision of whether to choose love or a scholastic chance that could lead to new opportunities.

She received a completely funded grant to pursue her master’s degree in Canada, but her partner wants her to decline the opportunity.

The 22-year-old woman claimed that he warned her against traveling overseas for fear that it would cause their relationship to terminate.

The young woman shared her plight with a social media adviser, who posted it on Twitter to get advice.

The adviser wrote;

“You won’t believe what this girl’s boyfriend asked her to do! Just when she thought life was going perfectly – a scholarship abroad, opportunities of a lifetime – love knocked on her door.
Now, imagine having your dreams within reach, only to have someone you love ask you to give it all up. This is the heart-wrenching story of a girl faced with a tough decision: leave for a scholarship abroad or stay back in Nigeria for love?
What will she choose?
She got a fully-funded scholarship to pursue her Masters in Canada. She was so excited and discussed it with her boyfriend who suddenly went cold. She was worried and pushed to find out what was wrong.
In her words, he said, “I should either stay back in Nigeria, build our future together in Nigeria and stick together or they end the relationship and she can proceed to Canada.”
She was confused. Why make me choose, she asked him. He said… “our plans to be together will not be feasible if you relocate abroad.”
I was curious to know why she was considering it in the first place and I quickly asked her how old she was. She said 22 years!!! Here was my response to her I finally called her and we spoke at length & hopefully, she takes my advice and JAPA!!! My 2 cents: A man that loves you would not stop you from achieving your goals. He would support you and not kill that dream. A big RED FLAG!!! What are your thoughts about this? If you were to be in her shoes, will you stay back in Nigeria to save your relationship or will you break up and relocate abroad? In the same vein, if you were married and your husband requests the same of you, what will you do?”

“Many people have sent me money because of the video” – Stephen Muoka, man behind Eluu P song

Nigerian content creator, Stephen Muoka, aka Mr. Eluu P who became popular after his comical counting of Labour party votes during the presidential election has revealed that he has received a lot of money from Nigerians.

Speaking during an interview with The Punch he said that he’s been getting a lot of attention as a result of what he did and he also received donations from different people.

In his words;

“Many persons sent me money, and they said I should not mention it. In total, I got about N300,000. I have plans for the money. I am trying to sustain my fame. Also, I want to further my education. Before the ‘Eluu P’ video, I was working as a mechanic, fixing automobiles.
The video was recorded at Onu Orei Amechi Road, Topland, Enugu State. That was where my polling unit was. The Labour Party won that polling unit. I was not the one who recorded the video. One of my friends, Kachi, did. He put the video on TikTok. It was from there that a popular blogger, Tunde Ednut, picked it. From there, the video went viral. I did not even know that my friend was recording me. It was after the video went viral that I got to know about it.”

When asked if the Labour party candidate or members of his team reached out, he said;

“Not yet, but I desire to meet Peter Obi one day. I have a hundred per cent hope that one day, I would meet him.”
The video made me very popular and I feel so happy about that. I did not know that it would go viral, considering that I did not tell anyone to record me in the first place. So many persons have appreciated me so far. They said I put smiles on their faces again when they felt there was no hope. However, their spirits were lightened with the ‘Eluu P’ video.”

ps: A good rule of thumb is to pay at least $5 for short trips within Beirut.”

When you have offered him all you have. Stop being a wifey when he has not paid your bride price. “

“Ask around, for me I don’t go to men’s house to cook when I was still single. Cook and wash for you? Have I finished cooking and washing for myself? If I manage to go a man’s house to spend a day, he would be thankful. Because, I don’t usually do that. Also stop giving them money, so you will not be disappointed when they eventually end up not marrying you.”

Gov. Sanwo-Olu rejects court order to pay N5m to cab driver tortured during EndSARS memorial

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, has rejected a court order to compensate the Uber driver who was tortured during the EndSARS memorial.

A Federal High Court in Lagos had on March 14, 2023 ordered the Lagos State Government to pay the sum of N5 Million as compensation to Adedotun Clement, an Uber driver who was severely tortured by officials of the State Neighbourhood Safety Agency and the Nigeria Police Force during the first anniversary of #EndSARS protest in 2021.

Clement was carrying a passenger to Lagos Mainland when he encountered a gridlock at the Lekki Toll-Gate during a march to commemorate the first anniversary of EndSARS and was intercepted by the officials.

A video of the assault on the Uber driver went viral and caused a huge uproar from Nigerians on social media.

Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, filed a lawsuit against the Lagos State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to seek redress.

Delivering judgement in the fundamental rights case with Suit Number: FHC/CS/1862/2021, Justice Allagoa held that the treatment meted on the applicant amounted to a violation of his right to dignity and awarded the sum of N5 million as damages.

Following the judgment, Effiong wrote a letter to Governor Sanwo-Olu on March 16, 2023 demanding compliance with the judgment.

However, the governor refused to act on the demand. The Lagos State Government has now filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Lagos against the judgment.

In a Notice of Appeal filed on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, but served on Friday, March 24, signed by Dr. Babajide Martins, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, the government said there was no evidence that Clement was tortured.

American model and socialite, Angela Renée White, professionally known as Blac Chyna, has shared why she decided to stop OnlyFans and reverse all cosmetic surgeries.

The 34-year-old reality star, who is now going by Angela White, revealed in a recent interview with Daily Mail, why she ended her provocative online content, which she launched in April 2020 and earned her two million dollars in two years.

According to her, after her baptism in May 2022, she came to the realization that continuing to share very X-rated images and videos on the platform was not what God would want her to do.

“I’m not doing OnlyFans anymore. I’m kind of past that. It is one of those things where I did what I needed to do at that moment because of the circumstances I was in. Besides, with me being baptized, that’s just not what God will want me to do. It’s kind of degrading.” She said.

Reflecting on the moment that impacted her decision, Angela added,

“I think my baptism on my birthday played a big part. Everything has been kind of trickling down for me and lining up perfectly. Now I’m just going by faith. I’m not even really going by like the Blac Chyna way or the Angela way. Let me just let God lead me”.

In other news, controversial rapper and Influencer, Speed Darlington has made fun of the governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu for what he claimed for what he claimed to have accomplished while in office.

The foundation of Domino’s Pizza and Chicken Republic are two accomplishments that the governor claimed his administration can be proud of after six years in an interview he gave two years prior.

During a Channels TV program, the interviewer asked;

“Let’s talk about what you have done for the people of Abia State, people say you have done nothing in the last six years.”

Residents of Abia state were shocked by Okezie Ikpeazu’s answer. He said;

“Well, they are entitled to their opinion, but I don’t think they are right because, for 30 years, it was impossible to access Ariaria from any place, whether you are coming from Port Harcourt or you are coming from Brass.

You had to be at some point, stop, and people would back you or…when I came to Aba, there was no single street light…but we have planted over 3,000 streetlights in that city today. And anybody who says that Aba is not working, …today in Aba, you have Domino’s, you have Chicken Republic, you have MarketPlace; you have everything in Aba; you have a cinema in Aba…”

During an Instagram Live session, speed Darlington reacted by accusing the governor of having a broke mentality and laughed so hard at the statement because he found it hilarious.

“Some people could adopt or hijack afrobeat if we are not smart” – Samklef

Nigerian music producer, Samklef has suggested that Afrobeat musicians should concentrate on writing tracks that make listeners adore the genre rather than experimenting.

He stressed the importance of sticking to tried-and-true methods and avoiding new, difficult-to-implement concepts in order to avoid the demise of afrobeat or its possible hijacking by outsiders.

Samklef gave the suggestion during an interview when asked what could be done to sustain the global momentum of the genre that originated in Nigeria.

He said;

“It is important to have sincerity of purpose in whatever one does. With the relevance and momentum afrobeats has now, we (entertainers) need to ask ourselves what we did for it to hit the mainstream. Thereafter, we can do more of what is working, stop what is not working and start what we think can work. Otherwise, we won’t be able to sustain the buzz, or some people could adopt the sound and hijack it from us . If that happens, people will even forget where afro beats originated from.”

The musician expressed worry about the reality that few Nigerian acts release timeless songs, which is why most songs lose their appeal after a few months.

In his words;

“Music is a universal language, and I believe that not all songs can be evergreen. Some songs are made to address situations, while some are solely for entertainment purposes.
Once in a while, some artistes would ‘catch a vibe’ and make music that would last, even after they are no longer alive. However, I do not believe that the days of good music and evergreen songs are gone. Artistes just need to calm down, and not be pressured to churn out trendy songs and make fast money. Some songs don’t even last for more than three months.”

Speaking on the greatest challenge Nigerian music producers have to contend with , he said it was the quest to be heard and seen.

He said;

“Humans face many challenges, and producers are not left out. Professionally, I would say the quest to be heard and seen is the biggest challenge of producers. Before now, producers were just heard.
Now, many producers are crossing over to make their own music, become stars and get more money. Staying relevant is another major challenge for producers.”

“The pressure is very strong, people expect me to live lavishly” – Gospel singer, Mike Abdul

Nigerian gospel artiste, Mike Abdul has claimed that he is under too much pressure from others to lead an extravagant and lavish existence.

The “Blessing Now” singer admitted that while he considers offering back to society, actualizing those ideas might not be viable.

Speaking in an interview, Mike Abdul said that people typically assume he lives in a large home, drives an expensive car, and has a particular appearance.

He said;

“The pressure is very strong. Many time, one wants to give back to society, but that might not be sustainable. Many people usually expect others to do things that they cannot do for themselves. People expect me to look a certain way, drive a particular type of car, and live in a certain type of house or neighbourhood.”
Additionally, he discussed his musical genre and how gospel musicians lack flexibility because they are unable to easily engage in genres that are more suited to secular artists.

He explained;

“Gospel artistes are not as flexible as secular artistes, because they cannot talk about everything. Gospel artistes are only expected to talk on godliness and the Holy Spirit. Being a gospel artiste, one’s path has already been defined.
On the marketing side, some people don’t want to hear certain statements from gospel artistes. It is secular artistes that are expected to sing about such things.”

When asked how he feels about some gospel singers infusing secular lyrics into their songs he said;

“I am not sure why they do that. For some people, they have been exposed to certain themes and that is all they know. I cannot see a ‘GenZ’ whose musical atmosphere is formed by those vibes, trying to do gospel music, and tell him he cannot do it. That would be difficult.
For instance, I came into the industry doing gospel fuji because that was the kind of music I was exposed to. So, when it was time for me to find musical expression, I did it in fuji. That was the most powerful tool in my hand, and not everyone liked it. Not everyone will like what one does.”

“Churches used to pay me in prayers after performing for free” – Comedian Buchi

Nigerian comedian and stand-up act, Onyebuchi Ojieh, professionally known as Buchi, disclosed that he used to receive prayers as payment for his work at the beginning of his career.

He claimed that even though he performed for free before receiving his big break, he had never considered giving up humor.

According to Buchi, his versatility and distinctive manner are some things that helped him succeed, and they are what drew the attention of seasoned comedians like Julius Agwu and Tee A.

In his words;

“I am always excited whenever I am on stage, making people laugh. It has always been that way; right from when I was using my money to travel by night bus to perform in churches, and then they would pray for me. That was when it was free, and I have never stopped since then.
When I got into the industry, there was no one doing what I was doing; and that was a big boost for me. Back then, I used to do a lot of ‘freestyling’. The first big events where I showcased myself were those of two other comedians— Tee A and Julius Agwu. At those shows, I was just ‘freestyling’ from one seat to another, and making jokes out of anything that came to my head.
It was spontaneous. Those performances got me noticed by some people in the industry, including Opa Williams of Night of a Thousand Laughs. For the next edition of the Night of a Thousand Laughs, I did not audition before I was selected to perform.
The right people took note of my works, because I was doing something different from what they had heard before. The fact that I came out with something new and spontaneous brought me this far. Also, in my early years in the industry, my friend and colleague, Basketmouth, met me at one of the shows of Night of a Thousand Laughs, and he was wowed. He walked up to me and commended me. He said he had not seen anything like that before and wanted us to work together.”

Speaking on his friendship with Basketmouth and Bovi and how they resolve quarrels explained;

“We always resolve our differences over drinks. In whatever relationship one is involved in, there will always be issues and disputes. My friendship with Basketmouth started around 1998/1999, and we started working together in the early 2000s. Thereafter, Bovi came along. He was still an actor when we met during the Night of a Thousand Laughs tour. He (Bovi) came into the industry with his own materials, and it was good.”

Appeal court reinstates Adeleke as Osun Governor

A Court of Appeal has restored Ademola Adeleke to his position as governor of Osun state.

Recall that the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo on Friday, January 27 nullified the election of Ademola Adeleke as Osun governor.

A three-judge tribunal headed over by Justice Mohammed Lawal Shuaibu on Friday, March 24, ruled that the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor Gboyega Oyetola had failed to substantiate claims of overvoting in favor of the People’s Democratic Party. (PDP).

They also pointed out that the electoral panel erred in ruling that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress, the first and second respondents, had established their claim of excessive voting.

In a unanimous decision, the appeal court also fined the APC and its nominee N500,000 in costs.

However, it rejected Adeleke’s argument that there was no prejudice in the governorship election petition panel chairman’s remark that “Go low, low, Buga won.”
