Nigerian man recounts how police officers allegedly forced him to make a video claiming to be a Yahoo boy after extorting N150,000 from him

A young Nigerian man has recounted how he was allegedly harassed and extorted by men of the Federal Special Weapons and Tactics (FSWAT) at the Adeniji Central Police Station.

According to the young man, a music publicist simply identified as Boluwatife, the officers stopped him in Ikoyi while on his way to Lekki on Thursday night, August 4.

He claimed the officers took him to their office in Adeniji Adele where they extorted N150,000 from him and also made him do a video claiming he was an internet fraudster, popularly known as Yahoo Boy.

Narrating the incident on Twitter, he wrote,

“I was harassed & Robbed by members of FSWAT Adeniji Central police station, Lagos island last night. I’m still so traumatized from this💔🤦🏽‍♂️. These people refused to let me call my dad or my friends, I was AWOL for 2 hours & I had to do thier bidding before I was released, I don’t pray for enemy to go through this. Sighhh”.

In other news, Uduak Frank Akpan, the convicted killer of jobseeker, Iniubong Umoren, has said that nothing is being done about many murders in the country.

Recall that on Thursday, August 4, a Akwa Ibom State high court sentenced Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of the young lady whom he killed after luring her to a fake job interview last year.

The presiding judge, Bassey Nkanang, also sentenced him to life imprisonment for raping the female jobseeker.

After giving his judgement, Judge Nkanang, asked the suspect if he would like to say anything to the court before he’s taken away.

Responding, Akpan said, “My Lord, I am not guilty.”

However, the judge told him the court has gone beyond that stage as he had been convicted already, and told him to say something related to the case.

In response, Akpan said there are many killings in Nigeria that nobody is doing anything about.

His words, “My Lord, in our country, there’re many assassinations, but nobody is doing something about it.”

Nigerian singer, Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has asserted that he’s not a playboy as he explains the idea behind his new album title, “playboy”.

In an interview with media personality Ehiz on Apple Music Africa Now, the YBNL signee, who recently released his third studio album named Playboy, gave a disclaimer that he is not a playboy.

According to him, he titled his new album Playboy to convey to the public that he is about to emerge from his shell, enjoy life, express himself and step into his superstar element.

He noted that he’s been shying away from it in the past three years of his career, but now he’s set to come out of his shell to enjoy the fame.

“I want to put a disclaimer, it is not the kind of playboy everybody thinks. It would be recalled that the actors were kidnapped after filming at a remote location in Enugu last week and their abductors demanded for $100,000 to secure their release.

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie’s brother, Linc Edochie, has reacted after he was accused of unfollowing and not showing support for his brother’s first wife, May.

Yul Edochie, who has been married for 17 years to his first wife, May, unveiled colleague Judy Austin as his second wife in April. Although at the time, his brother, Uche, said their family was not in support of the union.

In an Instagram post, Uche claimed Yul’s marriage to actress Judy Austin was not supported by the Edochie family, who counseled him against going ahead with the marriage, but he refused.

The young man, who claimed to have been saving up for a while for the surprise, bought a used automobile and presented it to his lover on her birthday.

According to the lady who claimed to have spent three days with the deceased whose name was Paul before his death, he told her some things before he gave up the ghost.

She said when she asked the deceased why he was “over there”, he responded, saying his life was ‘cut short’. He also allegedly told her that his wife was “putting stuff in his food” implying that he was poisoned to death by his own wife.

Mixed reactions have trailed a recent message to couples by popular clergywoman, Nike Adeyemi, that their spouses are not their source but God is.

Nike, the wife of the senior pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, shared the message that has now sparked a debate online with couples via her Twitter handle on Thursday, August 4.

Media personality, Latasha Ngwube, has replied to ace comedian, Alibaba, who in a trending video questioned the source of income of some Nollywood actresses.

The comedian had taken to social media to question how female Nollywood stars are able to fund their extravagant lifestyles and asked them to stop deceiving naïve girls on social media.

In the trending clip, Alibaba questioned how actresses can afford houses worth N45 million in only a few months of joining the movie industry.

He shared a personal experience of an actress who he claimed accompanied a top shot to Dubai, stayed with him in a hotel and days later was on Instagram posting ”lounging in Dubai?”.

“How many movies have you done that gave you 45 Million naira to buy a house? The industry that you just joined? I may be tempted to mention names but I will not. We went to Dubai one time and I see this Actress, I saw the person she was with.. I greeted them, they greeted me and everything”, he said in part.

Reacting, Latasha berated Alibaba, noting that his post reeked of sexism and sounded like a direct attack on women.

In her words,

“With all due respect Uncle Ali, I don’t think you’re the person best suited to take on this topic. I think it’s beneath you and smacks of sexism. There are many male actors who are also doing the “wrong things” and engaged in illicit sexual activity with (older) women for pay and even other senior men. Your approach sounds like an attack on women when we should be focused on all genders and the pressures they put men and women under with their deceptive lifestyle. P.s. even those you identified that do business, it’s still not guaranteed that their ways are pure.”

Nigerian singer, Seun Kuti, has said that professionals and entertainers are the reason poor Nigerians sell their votes during elections.

The Afrobeat legend, while making this assertion, listed actors, professionals, and musicians as some of those who have sold their souls to politicians.

According to him, the decisions of the masses are influenced by entertainers and professionals who have sold their talents to politicians for their selfish gains.

Seun, who stated this during the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajode, noted that entertainers declare support for corrupt political leaders; it shapes the people’s mindset.

According to him, it is evil and hypocritical for government employees, attorneys, journalists, and bankers to show their support or work for corrupt public officials while simultaneously criticizing voters who solicit money to support a certain candidate or political party.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has defended President Buhari’s decision to purchase vehicles worth N1.145 billion for the Republic of Niger.

Speaking on the controversial decision that has sparked outrage from Nigerians, the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, while responding to questions from newsmen after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President at the State House, Abuja, said it’s to enhance Niger’s capacity to protect their country as relating to security.

She added that this is not the first time Nigeria is offering assistance to its neighboring countries.

“Let me just say that overtime, Nigeria has had to support its neighbours, especially the immediate neighbours to enhance their capacity to secure their countries as it relates to us. This is not the first time that Nigeria had assisted Niger Republic, Cameroon or Chad.

The President makes an assessment as to what is required based on the request of their Presidents. Such requests are approved and interventions are provided.

It is to enhance their capacity to protect their countries, as it relates to security and also to Nigeria.

Nigerians have the rights to ask questions, but also the President has the responsibility to make an assessment of what is in the best interest of the country and I cannot question the decision myself.

I have said this is not the first time and that Nigeria as a country has provided an intervention to our neighbours. It is in the best interest of Nigeria to do so.”

A tragic incident has befallen the owners of Temple Hills Supermarket in Festac Town, Lagos state, in the early of hours of today, July 4, as fire razed the property.

Goods worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the fire incident that gutted the popular supermarket.

Though it’s not clear what started the fire as at the time of filing this report, the fire has been put out by officials of the Nigerian Fire Service and residents.

In other news, a Nigerian man, identified as Wesley Anthony Ogheneruona Ojih, has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of his two teenage sons, who died in a motor accident on the same day.

Ojih’s sons, Favour Ogheneruona, 16, and Precious Ogheneruona, 14, were said to be on the same motorcycle when they had a fatal collision with a tipper lorry on the Owa-Okei Road, Owa, Delta State, which led to their deaths.

The unfortunate incident happened on May 24, 2022, and they were laid to rest in their hometown after a funeral service at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Agbor, on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

The father of five, in an interview with Ika Weekly Newspaper, revealed that his first son was looking forward to studying engineering, while the second hoped to become a medical doctor before the age of 22.

A Nigerian man, Sufiyanu Abubakar Salihu, is set to marry his late fiancée’s younger sister, Fatima Ibrahim Kani, one week after her death in Bauchi.

Salihu had taken to Twitter a few days ago to mourn his fiancée, Rukaiya Ibrahim Kani who died on Wednesday, July 27, two weeks to their wedding.

Before her unexpected death, Rukaiya and Salihu were scheduled to get married in Bauchi on August 12.

Well, Salihu will now marry Fatima Ibrahim Kani, the younger sister of his deceased lover, on August 12, the day he was meant to wed Rukaiya.

The elder brother of the sisters, Aliyu Ibrahim Kani, took to Facebook on Wednesday, August 3, to share the new invitation card with Rukaiyat’s name replaced with Fatima’s.

Moment Uduak Akpan tried to escape after court sentenced him to death for murder of Akwa Ibom jobseeker, Iniubong Umoren (VIDEO)

A video that’s newly emerged online shows the moment convicted murderer, Uduak Frank Akpan tried to escape after a Akwa Ibom State high court sentenced him to death by hanging for the murder of late Iniubong Umoren.

In a video captured by BBC News Pidgin, police men are seen surrounding the area where Uduak had tried to escape from following his sentence. He’s seen being caught and manhandled into a van as police officers secure the area.

Uduak Frank Akpan, the first accused in the murder of jobseeker Iniubong Umoren, to death by hanging.

The trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, in his judgement, sentenced Akpan to death by hanging and life imprisonment on the two charges of murder and rape preferred against him on Thursday, August 4.

The court, however, discharged and acquitted his father, Frank Akpan, and sister, Anwan Bassey, (2nd and 3rd accused), who were standing trial for accessory after the fact to murder.

Recall that Akpan lured the deceased, a 26-year-old graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) with a fake job interview on April 29, 2021, killed her and buried her remains in a shallow grave in his father’s compound.

Ms Umoren was confirmed dead on April 30 and was buried on Friday in her hometown of Nung Ita, Ikot Essien, in Akwa Ibom State’s Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, Akpan, in an interview with newsmen, claimed he killed his victim in self-defense.

Frank, in his not-so-convincing side of the story, said Ini attacked him, he defended himself by hitting her, and the blow led to her death.

Nigerian socialite, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has continued to react after he was declared wanted by the EFCC.

On Wednesday, the anti-graft agency declared the billionaire businessman wanted for alleged money laundering and called on members of the public with useful information on his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station.

The EFCC claimed that Mompha failed to appear in court for his money laundering trial.

Mompha however went online shortly afterwards to share his side of the story and accused the EFCC of being a corrupt-laden agency.

He explained that after his arrest and arraignment before a Lagos Court in 2021, the presiding judge ordered the EFCC to release his wristwatches and other valuables in their custody.

According to him, the anti-graft agency were displeased with the judgement and came up with another trumped up charges against him.

He also claimed they wanted to force him into a plea bargain so he can be convicted for a crime he didn’t commit.

Mompha has now taken to his Instastory to share a picture of the confiscated luxury wristwatches he was able to recover from the EFCC and another picture showing the price of one of the wristwatches.

He then alleged that the anti-graft agency operatives are after him because they want to rip him off the luxury wristwatches.

A 44-year-old Thai woman, identified as Pattheema, has hired a mistress to sexually satisfy her husband because she has not been able to please him by herself.

Patteema caused a stir online after she took to TikTok to announce the strange job opening of three live-in mistresses to satisfy her husband.

In the video she shared, she said interested applicants must be between 30 and 35 and have either completed high school or have a degree.

The women must also undergo medical checks to prove that they don’t have HIV or any sexually transmitted disease.

She added, “You will get paid at least 15,000 baht (around £340) a month, get free accommodation, and free meals. But you need to help me out. Two will be hired to help with document work in my office, and another one will be hired to take care of me, my husband, and my child.”

Patheema said there won’t be rivalry between herself and the women, and her husband would be free to choose who he wants to sleep with at anytime.

“I guarantee there will be no fight between you and me. I allow my husband to choose who he wants to sleep with or stay with. No schedule, he can pick by himself,” she said.

It was gathered that she has now hired a 33-year-old lady to join the family as her husband’s mistress.

Pattheema said although the woman was not what her husband expected, he has accepted to take her as his ‘little wife’. She has also closed the application.
