A Nigerian woman has averred that tribalism is personal following her experience with her landlord, who is not from her tribe.
The woman identified as Eby Amanda Pius-Urum on Facebook in a lengthy post on the platform said her landlord didn’t care about tribe or marital status when she wanted to rent a house.
According to her, all the landlord asked was if she could renew her rent.
She revealed that a year after her rent expired, she had challenges that made her unable to pay her rent, and rather than sending her packing, the landlord allowed her to pay in instalments and encouraged her with soothing words through the challenge.
Meanwhile, she had begged the landlord for one more month to enable her to pack her loads and go back to her home state, Ebonyi, months after her rent expired.
Surprisingly, upon replying to the message, the landlord advised her against going back to the village and suggested that she pay in instalments.
“What will you go home and do? How are you going to carry your load? You have to understand that it is not the end. I have been in same shoes. It is good to mourn but you should not give up on yourself while doing that. Pay installmentally. Everything will be fine. Pele!” He told her.
Read her full post below,
“I have lived at my current apartment since 2017. When my agent met my landlord that a young lady want to take the apartment. The only question he asked was Hope you can renew your next rent?”
“No singleness and Igbo wahala. I replied YES. Lmao… I didn’t know life was about playing Russian roulette with me. December same year, life hit me. I spent December 2017 to June 2018 shuttling between Lagos and Ebonyi.
“When everything crumbled in June 2018. I stayed almost 2 months in Ebonyi, got back to Lagos after and met mind blowing cobwebs. My rent had expired in April. See me getting back to Lagos in August. I’d lock myself inside my apartment and cry myself to sleep. Wake up, shower and start crying from where I stopped.
“For close to a month. We were entering September and I haven’t paid my rent. The zeal to work was zero. Because, since I became an adult, if I don’t work I won’t eat. There was no hope of getting my rent except I get on my machine. I wrote my landlord. I asked that he should spare me a month more to pack my stuff back home. It was the only option.
“I was tired at that point. No motivational speech dey move me. I waited for over 24hrs for my landlord to reply my message. My rent is due since 5 months plus. So I anticipated a NO. Finally his message came.
“What will you go home and do? How are you going to carry your load? You have to understand that it is not the end. I have been in same shoes. It is good to mourn but you should not give up on yourself while doing that. Pay installmentally. Everything will be fine. Pele!”
“LMAO! I was like “What manner of landlord is this?” His wife came the following week to check up on me. We talked and she hugged me and left. Still wondering why she was surprised I gave her wrapper in December. I have been blessed in this life but my landlord is one of my major blessings.
“My landlord is one of the most understanding and considerate Yoruba man I have ever seen. I pray God blesses me so that I can bless him like I want. It’s 2022 and I have grown past my current apartment. I have been house hunting since last year and all I can say is Tribalism is very personal”.

Mr. Garba Emmanuel, the father of Sokoto student, Deborah Samuel, who was killed by a mob over allegations of Blasphemy, has disclosed that his family will not go to court over the heartbreaking issue as he trusts that God will be the best Judge.
Mr. Emmanuel noted that picking his daughter’s burnt remains was the saddest moment of his life and although it is a big cross to bear, his family have accepted their fate in all totality.
In an interview with Vanguard, the devastated father revealed he was made to pay N120, 000 for the transportation of the charred remains of Deborah to Niger state where she was buried in their village over the weekend.
Speaking in Hausa, Mr Garba said;
“The family will not go to court over the matter. Go to court to challenge human being or Almighty God over the issue? This is completely ruled out. God does not sleep. He knows what to do at the appropriate time and as the creator of everybody, we leave the case for Him to judge. Certainly, it is a big cross to bear but what can we do than to carry the cross and accept our fate in all totality as it has come.
Beside receiving the shock over the gruesome death of my daughter, I had another bitter experience to go and personally transport her corpse from Sokoto to Niger State. It was the saddest moment of my life to go and pick the corpse of my daughter and brought her home in a chartered bus, for which I paid N120,000.
I pleaded at the hospital that since the corpse had been burnt, they should help me with the remains, so it doesn’t decompose completely for us to bury her.
I also pleaded with the DSS and they reasoned along with me and agreed to release her remains to me after signing some documents. Which moment can be as sad as this in one’s life? However, it is all over and it has become history.”

Two suspected bandits have been arrested for the kidnapping of a man in Bandoko community, Kaduna State — according to the suspects, their initial plan was to abduct and gang-rape the victim’s wife.
Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement revealed that the suspects, Abdurahman Lolo and Muhammed Sanni, were apprehended by the operatives of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by DCP Olatuniji Disu, following a distress call to the Operation Puff Adder.
“At about 11.30 pm on the 29th of April 2022, some bandits attacked a house in Bandoko for the purpose of kidnapping a woman and gang-rape her all night. The woman who sells ‘fura-denunu’ within the area had been monitored by the suspects before the attack,” the statement read.
“Upon breaking into the room of the woman, they found her with her husband. At this point, they changed their plan from kidnapping and rape to kidnapping for ransom. The invaders demanded the key to the motorcycle of the 35-year-old husband, Jibril Saidu.
“After collecting the key, they forced him to remove his shirt and trousers, which were used to blindfold him and tie his hands to his back. They stole his bike, put him on the bike and escaped from the village into far away Gbadoko forest.”
“Immediately they left, the mother of the husband raised alarm and the residents came out but could not chase after the invaders for fear that the kidnappers may be armed with guns. The villagers immediately organized local vigilantes to secure the community and then sent a distress call to the IRT operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder for urgent action.”
“When the police arrived, the villagers assisted in showing them directions and they chased after the kidnappers. Around 5 am on 30th of April 2022, the police officers were able to trace the invaders into their hideout at Gbadoko forest where the suspects on sighting the police officers, abandoned their victim and motorcycle and fled into the thick forest.”
The police officers continued their chase after them and were able to arrest one of the kidnappers, Abdulrahman Lolo, a 20-year-old herder and further investigations by operatives of the FIB-IRT led to the arrest of the other member of the gang, Mohammed Sanni, a 26-year-old herder.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime and are assisting the police with information.
According to Abdurahman LoloA,
“I and one Abubarka Baya rear cows in the same village. Abubakar asked me to follow him to a Fulani Ruga settlement in the same area. Our plan was to abduct a woman for the purpose of raping her, but it turned out to be the kidnapping of her husband,”
“We only made use of torchlights, cutlasses and sticks, not a gun. Others who went together with me for the operation are Sani, Abubakar, Umar and Seif. All of us are boys of Alhaji Lolo of Gadam Mallam-Mamam. The other boys I mentioned have been going out for operations before, but this is my own first time. The role I played was to mount road and pass information to other members who escaped when police chased us.” he added.
The victim, Jibril, narrated how he was abducted by the suspects and eventually rescued by IRT operatives.
“An unidentified group of persons invaded my house, flashed torchlights in my eyes and I couldn’t see. They threatened to kill me and my family if I do not cooperate with them. They ordered me to remove my clothes, and at the same time, requested the key to my motorcycle, which I quickly surrendered to them. They used my clothes to blindfold my eyes and tied my two hands to the back. They led me out of the house to my bike and drove me away. I was rescued by the IRT men.” he explained.
CSP Adejobi revealed that the Inspector General of Police Usman Baba Alkali, has directed the Commander of IRT, DCP Olatunji Disu, to ensure prompt prosecution of all cases and make sure that peace return to Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Adejobi also charged members of the public to work with the police in the efforts to ensure that all parts of the country are effectively policed.
