From the beaches along the gulf to the mountains and spiritual shrines, Nigeria offers a host of experiences that appeal to not only the eye, but the soul. The incredible and seemingly unending vistas in Nigeria will leave you in staggered awe by the beauty and scale. Whether you prefer forests and waterfalls, desert oases, or impressive historical sites, Nigeria has a destination that will draw you in and leave you breathless with its Nigerian music and culture.

To go along with the natural beauty, there is the beauty of the Nigerian people. Their culture permeates every aspect of life, from their food, to their fashion, and to their music. If you come from the school of thought that to really experience a place you must experience its people, then the Nigerian people will certainly let you have that.

This most populous African nation is home to a people whose culture can be seen at every turn, whose friendliness and hospitality will warm your heart, and whose love of laughter is infectious. The Nigerian people find joy and humor in every aspect of life. Look at any naija comedy video if you doubt. The people of Nigeria will make you feel welcome whether you are in the capital city of Lagos or at Zuma Rock in Abuja. Here are just a few of the places to visit, whether you want to experience the people or the land.

  • Lagos, the capital city, is home to comedy clubs, whose routines can be seen featured in naija online videos, that highlight the Nigerians love of laughter. The nightlife and fun in this city is so prevalent that there is even a word for it: Lasgidy. For a night of laughter, dancing, incredible music, and amazing food, Lagos is the place to be.
  • To experience the spiritual side of life in Nigeria, Awhum is home to a monastery near immaculate lakes and a breath-taking waterfall, truly a place for refreshing the soul.
  • Or you can visit a shrine to the goddess of fertility in Osun-Osogbo Grove. There you can see art work and sculptures dedicated to Osun at this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • For a truly awe-inspiring view, Zuma Rock in Abuja will not disappoint. Standing 2,400 feet high, this monolith stands far above its surrounding and has an impression of a human face watching over the city.
  • For a more nature inspired experience, Gashaki-Gumpti National Park boasts both forest and savannah vegetation with the wildlife to match. Chimpanzees and other primates live among the trees while lions and hippopotamus make their homes among the grasslands.
  • The historical walls of Kano, which are a nearly ten miles long and 1,000 years old, once enclosed the Emir’s Palace. Or take in the Ancient Nok Settlement, where artifacts that are now housed in museums around the world continue to be found.
  • For a more relaxing day in the sun, Ibeno Beach stretches over 150 miles along the coast, backed by a mangrove forest and bathed in cool oceanic breezes.
