Writer and human rights activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa was killed twenty five years on November 10 for protesting against oil spillage in Ogoni land in 1993.
It was alleged that his last words were “Lord, take my soul but, the struggle continues”.
Today is his 25th death anniversary and Nigerians have taken to social media to remember the hero.
His daughter, Noo Saro-Wiwa painfully shared the family’s ordeal after his death on Facebook.
She said her father and the others were buried in an unmarked grave for over a decade and when the family finally received his remains, they had to reassemble his skeleton with their own hands so they can give him a dignified burial.
She noted that till date, the government has not granted him an official pardon even after his death
Read her full post below,
“25 years ago today, my father Ken Saro-Wiwa and his eight colleagues were murdered by Nigeria’s military regime after a sham trial. Their only ‘crime’ was to peacefully pursue human rights for the Ogoni people and to campaign against oil spills in the oil-rich Niger Delta. Their bodies were buried in an unmarked grave for almost a decade.
When our family finally received my father’s remains we had to reassemble his skeleton with our own hands before giving him a dignified burial. To this day the Nigerian government has not granted him an official pardon. It speaks volumes about our so-called democracy.
No government can call itself civilised or claim any moral authority while it refuses to exonerate these innocent men. Black lives will matter outside of Africa only when they matter in Africa itself. #pardonkensarowiwa #pardontheogoni9”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said the Federal Government is not placing a priority on education in the country, which it says is the reason for the impasse in the negotiations for government to meet the lecturers’ demands.
The National Chairman of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi gave this statement while speaking during a Channels TV programme on Monday.
He explained that the federal government was always focusing on the salary aspect of their demands, forgetting the protracted issues of funding, autonomy, and conducive environments for learning and working.
“Do we still have public primary schools? Do we still have public secondary schools? Let us acknowledge what ASUU has brought to the system.
“But for ASUU, public universities would have collapsed totally. The government does take education as a priority.
“We have schools without seats, we have laboratories without equipment and some use kerosene stoves as Bunsen burners.
“We need our universities to grow this country; we need our universities to innovate and develop this country.
“So funding the university system is not a waste, but an investment,” Ogunyemi said.
Asked about the fate of students who have been home for over eight months due to the strike action, Ogunyemi said,
“Each time people talk about this problem (strikes) as being there for long, they don’t also appreciate the solutions we have brought to the system.
“We have kept the system going. But for ASUU interventions, we would no longer have public universities today.
“Parents and students should understand that we want to bring the universities to the level where they would be proud of their certificates.”

A Botswanan rape victim has surprised many, as she refused to testify against a Zimbabwean man who was arrested for raping her.
It was gathered that the unidentified woman refused to testify against one 34-year-old Oscar Chabaya who raped her, but instead asked the police for his contact, claiming he had sexually satisfied her.
According to reports, the suspect’s rape attacks began in March 2017, where he would gain entry into his victims’ houses through windows left open. Once inside, he would search the house for cell phones before raping the victims without protection.
The suspect who was accused of targeting tertiary students under the age of 24 before breaking into their homes at night to rape them, usually tell his victims he was good in bed and they would call him begging for more.
Chabaya was nabbed in April 2017, after police matched his DNA to an earlier robbery case in which he suffered a cut on his hand while escaping.
Despite refusal of the victim to testify against her abuser, the prosecution proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the sexual intercourse occurred without her consent.
Ruling on the case, Magistrate Willie said rape cases were on the increase in Botswana and perpetrators like Chabaya deserved stiffer sentences.
