A farmer and petty trader in Nasarawa state has committed suicide after his wife informed him that their only child, whom they welcomed after 12 years of marriage, was fathered by another man.
Jacob Numku, from Toto community in Nasarawa State, was told by his wife Juliet that their five-month-old baby was actually fathered by a young man named Uchenna, whom she had met in the course of business.
Numku became depressed after his wife confessed to him and he told The Nation that “It’s a huge loss akin to bereavement.”
However, no one suspected that he will go as far as taking his own life.
The shock of his only child being fathered by a stranger was said to have been compounded by Juliet’s open declaration that she prefers to spend the rest of her life with Uchenna because of the satisfaction she gets from being with him, the publication reports.
Juliet told The Nation that she decided to have an affair with Uchena, a petty trader, because her husband could not father a child after their 12 years of marriage and was not taking any serious step to address their childlessness.
Juliet was said to have become pregnant for Uchenna about eight months after they started a romance. Her pregnancy was celebrated by Numku as well as family friends and neighbours who all thought that her husband was responsible for the pregnancy.
Events, however, took a different turn when five months after she was delivered of a baby boy, Juliet travelled to Keffi on the pretext that she needed medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC). But once she was out of town, she put a call through to Numku and bluntly told him that he was not the father of their only baby and that she was on her way to Keffi to return the baby to his biological father.
Narrating his ordeal in an interview with The Nation in Toto two weeks before he committed suicide, Numku recalled that he was overwhelmed with joy when the child he thought was his own was placed in his arms for the first time about four months ago and vowed to be a wonderful father.
He recalled amid sobs the day his wife left home for Keffi, telling him that she was going to the hospital, only to call him on the phone moments later to tell him that he was not the biological father of the child and that she had decided to return the child to the rightful owner.
Numku had said: “To say that I am devastated is an understatement. There are no words to aptly describe the loss that I feel.
“After grappling with infertility for more than 11 years, I thought I was finally a father. I lived with the pains of the pregnancy and I was there at his birth.
“It was the most incredible moment of my life. I called friends and relatives to tell them the good news that my pains and shame were over. I never knew that I was celebrating somebody else’s child.
“When she told me that she had missed her period, I was happy. And when the child arrived, I was overwhelmed with emotion as I announced to whoever cared to listen that God had finally answered my prayers, only for me to find out that he is not really mine.
“It is a huge loss akin to a bereavement except that the grief is twisted, even magnified, because he is not dead.
“I am no longer a father. I am left with not only a bleak chasm of loss but also an enormous sense of betrayal.
“Her delivery was the proudest moment of my life, but she knew from day one that I was not responsible for the pregnancy. Today, there is no longer the usual cry of a baby in my house.”
After Jacob Numku committed suicide by hanging, his wife Juliet spoke to the publication over the phone. Juliet admitted that the deceased was her husband but he was not the father of her son.
She said: “Yes, he was my husband but he was not the father of my son. That is the truth and I can’t hide it from him.
“We stayed together as husband and wife for 12 years without a child. I did everything humanly possible for us to go to the hospital but he refused, and his only excuse was that God would bring a child at the appropriate time.
“The truth is that we never had any intercourse during the period I took in, so what made him to think he is the father?
“In the course of my business, I met a young man; he toasted me and in view of all the odds, I agreed and submitted myself to him.
“During this period, I made sure that my husband did not even see my pant. There was an opportunity and I wanted to test another man to know where the problem lies. The guy was actually giving me the needed satisfaction and in less than nine months, he was able to impregnate me.
“It is better I tell him this early because I am no longer interested in the marriage. If he wants, let him to go to court. I will bring the child for a DNA test to be conducted to prove what I am saying.
“The truth is that the man (Numku) never slept with me during that period, so it is not possible for him to be responsible for the pregnancy.”
The publication also spoke with Uchenna on the phone, and he said: “I only got to know that the woman was somebody’s wife when she was about to put to bed. I could not have ‘toasted’ somebody’s wife.
“I blame her seriously for misleading me into sleeping with her; I never knew she was somebody’s wife. I am the biological father of the boy and I have taken him. It is unfortunate but there is nothing I can do. It is my blood.”
It was gathered that two weeks after Numku narrated his sad experience to the press in Toto, he committed suicide by hanging.
President Buhari has finally reacted to the death of his former Chief of Staff, who died on Friday April 17 from COVID—19.
In a statement released on Saturday evening, President Buhari described Kyari as a true patriot and loyal friend..
Below is the President’s full statement on Abba Kyari.
“TO MY FRIEND, MALLAM ABBA KYARI
Mallam Abba Kyari, who died on 17th April, 2020, at the age of 67 from complications caused by the Coronavirus, was a true Nigerian patriot. My loyal friend and compatriot for the last 42 years – and latterly my Chief-of-Staff – he never wavered in his commitment to the betterment of every one of us.
He was only in his twenties when we first met. A diligent student, soon after he was blessed with the opportunity to study abroad – first at Warwick and then law at the University of Cambridge. But there was never any question Abba would bring his first-rate skills and newly acquired world-class knowledge back to Nigeria – which he did – immediately upon graduation.
Whilst possessing the sharpest legal and organisational mind, Abba’s true focus was always the development of infrastructure and the assurance of security for the people of this nation he served so faithfully. For he knew that without both in tandem there can never be the development of the respectful society and vibrant economy that all Nigerian citizens deserve.
In political life, Abba never sought elective office for himself. Rather, he set himself against the view and conduct of two generations of Nigeria’s political establishment – who saw corruption as an entitlement and its practice a byproduct of possessing political office.
Becoming my Chief of Staff in 2015, he strove quietly and without any interest in publicity or personal gain to implement my agenda.
There are those who said of him that he must be secretive – because he did not have a high public profile. But Abba was the opposite: he simply had no need, nor did he seek, the cheap gratification of the crowd; for him, there was nothing to be found in popular adulation. He secured instead satisfaction and his reward solely and only from the improvement of the governance of this great country.
Working, without fail, seven days each and every week, he acted forcefully as a crucial gatekeeper to the presidency, ensuring no one – whether minister or governor had access beyond another – and that all those representing and serving our country were treated equally.
He made clear in his person and his practice, always, that every Nigerian – regardless of faith, family, fortune or frailty – was heard and treated respectfully and the same.
Mallam Abba Kyari was the very best of us. He was made of the stuff that makes Nigeria great. Rest In Peace, my dearest friend.
To his loving wife and doting family who survive him, I extend my heartfelt sorrow at your loss.
Muhammadu Buhari
President, Federal Republic of Nigeria
April 18, 2020”.
The Ikorodu General Hospital has recorded a suspected COVID-19 related death, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
A reliable source told NAN that the deceased, a woman, was rushed to the hospital by her relatives on April 12 for treatment.
According to the source, the deceased patient presented Kidney failure, but was discovered to be manifesting suspected COVID-19 symptoms.
“Relations of the deceased patient was advised to take the woman to the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, Lagos for COVID-19 screening.
“Against medical advice, the deceased patient was, however, taken back home by relatives.
“But, she was brought back to the hospital and presented her at the Emergency Centre the following night in critical condition,” NAN gathered.
The source said that the deceased woman, suspected to be Covid-19 patient, was eventually admitted and isolated in a ward.
“But unfortunately, the patient died before day break in the hospital,” the source told NAN.
According to the source, officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) were informed and came to the hospital to take samples from the deceased patient.
The source told NAN that they were informed on Friday that the deceased result tested positive to Covid-19, with warning to the hospital management to isolate all health officials that attended to the deceased patient.
Information obtained by NAN revealed that NCDC officials were at the Ikorodu General Hospital on on Friday to take samples of health workers who attended to the deceased.
“Some of the health workers that attended to the patient had been crying, as most of them did not use Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), while attending to the deceased patient.
“Most times, health workers wear nylon as PPE, and the numbers of gloves, which are usually about two to four given daily to each health workers to attend to patients are inadequate,” the source said.
The official said that there had been several complaints to the hospital management about the welfare and safety of health workers, and nothing was done to improve the situation.
The source also said that about four health workers had direct contact with the deceased patient.
According to the source, health workers at the hospital had henceforth decided that, “No PPE, no work,” will be their stance from April 20.
However, efforts made by NAN to get the Medical Director of Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr Oluwafunmilayo Bankole, to comment on the issue proved abortive.
Several calls and SMS sent by NAN to Bankole’s line to get further details were unanswered.
Also, Mr Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, the Public Affairs Director, Lagos State Ministry of Health, was called by NAN to comment on the situation.
Ogunbanwo simply said, “I am not aware.”
When NAN reached out to the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on the issue, the call was picked by one of his Personal Assistants, who told NAN that the Commissioner was in a meeting.
The commissioner aide told NAN to send SMS, which was immediately done, but with no response as at the time of filing this report.
A trending video on social media shows the moment a man who wore a Personal protective equipment gown at the late Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari’s burial in Abuja today, carelessly discarded it on roadside which is against WHO COVID19 practices.

Nigerians on twitter have bemoaned the irresponsible action and also blamed ignorance for the man’s action.

Controversial investigate journalist, Kemi Okunloyo has described the late Abba Kyari as an unsung hero to Nigerians.
Kemi who took to her official Twitter handle shortly after the news of his death broke out, listed freeing Omoyele Sowore, maintaining sanity in Aso Rock among others as some of the rare feat recorded by the late Chief of Staff.
She said:
#BREAKING Remembering Abba Kyari ????⚰️NIGERIA’S Chief of Staff who died of #COVID19. Met him in UK days #Cambridge. He was a Shuwa Arab NOT Fulani. Kyari is an unsung hero NIGERIANS don’t know. He was responsible for FREEING Sowore and maintaining sanity in Aso Rock.
Mr Abba Kyari PREVENTED critical country stability issues in 2018 after I returned from prison. While I commend #KingB @MBuhari for corruption cracking down on past leaders, I felt that some things need to be left alone. Abba Kyari PREVENTED the arrest of OBJ and help release TY
Kyari as the hero I knew him of being, also handed this letter to @femigbaja WARNING lawmakers to go through airport checks for #COVID19. He knew he had it and wanted to prevent the spread. I, therefore, want to urge NIGERIANS especially @aishambuhari to pray for Abba Kyari’s soul.
Veteran Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has also —apparently— been tamed by the lockdown order and it looks like she’s among us who’s getting a bit bored of it.
She took to her Instagram page few hours ago to announce that she is going for a party. The delectable 42 year old who has been making a joke about going out cause she is bored at home, shared a video from one of her classic movies where she was partying and flexing.
The mother of four captioned the video,
“I told y’all… I’m off to party. Cant come and kill myself!
There are 3 actresses and my bad 2 actors at this party . Name them … and the name of this film ? Sorry.. party

He however underwent a Coronavirus test and turned out positive, after the hospital received a call from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on April 12.

“NCDC did not come on Tuesday but eventually came on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, and evacuated the patient.
“The hospital has been cooperating with NCDC, WHO and all other health agencies that have called or visited since the incident.
“The hospital had been decontaminated on April 15 working with NCDC and following the guidelines stipulated by NCDC. Though NCDC counselled that they can start normal work after one (1) hour of decontamination, the hospital decided to remain closed and reopen for business on Friday, April 17, 2020.
“In line with guidelines prescribed by NCDC, those who visited the facility between April 11 and April 15 should immediately self isolate, stay at home and avoid contact with people including your family (by staying in a room) for 14 days.”
Also making a clarification on Twitter, the hospital wrote;

One of my hypertensive diabetic patient tested postive for covid19 and he was sent to the isolation centre according to protocol. Anybody can have covid19. We cannot start neglecting or sending away patients because we think they may have covid 19. Patient have to test positive before you can send them to the isolation centre. Unfortunately, the test takes about 3 days for the result to comes out. While you are waiting, you have to do your best as a doctor to keep the patient alive”

I don’t even own any more sex toys, I got rid of them, but I definitely need to stack back up. I have to look for ways to get boldly contact or wait till we come out of this. It is really ain’t that serious yet.
On the other hand, I think it’s a blessing that I am single during this time. I can’t imagine having boyfriend issues during this time, it won’t be a funny encounter.
I’m really happy I get to spend all the lockdown weeks with myself and put all the energy I need to become a better me,” she said.

“I was at the AMVCA and when I got to know about the Coronavirus issue, I wasn’t so worried after all, I didn’t mingle too much as I wasn’t feeling too well. However, I was more concerned about an event I went to later that week. With all these going on, I think celebrities should abide by the laws and regulations put out by the government,” she added.

The Oyo state government says wearing of face masks in public places is now compulsory.
Gov. Seyi Makinde announced this on Friday in Ibadan while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State COVID-19 Taskforce meeting held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
Makinde, who noted that the directive was one of the measures to prevent, curtail and control the spread of coronavirus, said that the State COVID-19 Taskforce had reached a decision to implement the measure. “If you must leave your house to any public place, then you must wear face mask,” he said.
He also said the state government would produce an initial one million face masks to kick start the mask wearing policy in the state.
The governor also said that 100 tailors would be inaugurated on Monday for the production of 10,000 face masks each, adding that his government was collaborating with experts who had designed the face mask model to train the tailors.
Makinde said that each of the 100 tailors would engage the services of others and each cluster would be able to produce 2,000 daily thereby hitting the target of 10,000 within the week.
The governor further said that the resumption date for workers had been tentatively shifted to April 27, adding that the new resumption date would still be subjected to further evaluation. He attributed the postponement to the report of the new cases of COVID-19 in the state.
The governor further disclosed that two persons tested positive to the coronavirus on Friday. According to him, two persons also tested positive to the disease on Thursday, bringing to 15 the cases of COVID-19 in the state.
Makinde said his administration had taken proactive steps to ensure food security in the state by working with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and other Ibadan-based agricultural institutes to provide seeds and seedlings to farmers. “Efforts have been made to enlighten the farmers on how to stay safe from COVID-19 so that they will not miss the present planting season.
“On palliatives, a lot of pressure has been mounted on the government to share palliatives, but the date we met on ground is not accurate. “If we had used it, the items would have gone to the wrong hands. But now, we have our own data and we have double checked and the data is authentic. “Hopefully, before the end of next week, we will share the palliative to the public,’’ the governor said.
Nigerian singer, Kcee has finally reconciled with his lovely wife, Ijeoma and this is confirmed by a lovely family photo he shared on his Instagram page.
The Limpopo singer is not necessarily accustomed to showing off his wife on social media, unlike his younger brother, Emeka Okonkwo, AKA E-money who first hand shows off his beauty wife and kids on his Instagram.
The reason for Kcee’s behaviour is not unconnected to the marital issues he faced with his wife at the early stage of their marriage which had them estranged for a long time.
Probably the goodness of isolation has brought the couple back and better and the elated singer wants his fans and the world at large to know that his family is whole again.
The singer shared a family photo and gave it the caption,
I found the greatest fortune on earth by having you all as my back bone , thank you all for being everything i wanted in a family. Completely out of any word, so devastating. It is indeed very hard on us, but I strongly believe that we all belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah accept Mallam Abba Kyari’s shahada, forgive all his shortcomings, and grant him Jannatul Firdausi.
While Adesina wrote,
“Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, passes on. May God rest his soul. Amen. Funeral arrangements to be announced soon”.
It should be recalled that the President’s aide tested positive to the virus after his trip to Germany and was hospitalized for more than three weeks without showing any form of recovery.
One of HipHop rapper, Offset’s baby mamas, Shya L’amour has slammed him on social media and at the same time released receipts showing that he asked to have sex with her though he’s married to Cardi B.
Shya, a singer took to her page to share the chats she alleges are from Offset – in the chats, Offset is asking to have sex with Shya “one last time” and the date shows the messages were sent after his marriage to Cardi.
Offset and Shya, real name Nicole Algarin, have aforetime, made news as regards their ongoing child support battles over their daughter, Kalea; whom Shya says Cardi has taken in as her own.
In a previous interview with TMZ, Shya said Cardi has been a positive influence on Offset and he’s grown a lot with her in his life. She also acknowledged that Cardi is kind and treats her daughter, Kalea and Offset’s other children well.
In more recent times, Shya is now blasting Offset for financially cutting her and their daughter off, and coupled the announcements with messages from 2018, which show the Migos rapper begging to smash while married to Cardi B, who was pregnant with Kulture at the time.
“Can I have it one more last time,” the message she claims is from Offset reads.
And Shya replied, telling him that the only reason she will be seeing a married man will be to discuss their daughter.
Shya blasted,
“I was going to refrain from posting but him and his hoe too disrespectful after I’ve been trying to be cordial and empathetic. I found out the same time the world did that they was married and he been cut off since then!!! Stop f***king playing with my name!!!”
Offset is yet to respond to the allegations. See the screenshots she released,
