“I won’t hesitate to be one of your critics when necessary” – Comedian, Seyi Law pens open letter to President Tinubu over economic hardship

Seyi Law pens

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Seyi Law, has penned an open letter addressed to the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, regarding the ongoing economic hardship.

Seyi Law, who has been vocal about his support for the ruling party, reiterated his backing for the current administration but made it clear that he would not hesitate to call them out when necessary.

In the letter, the 40-year-old comedian urged the president to address issues such as rising food costs, electricity, and to hold his cabinet members accountable.

 Seyi Law pens

Seyi Law also emphasized the importance of accountability and pledged to continue asking tough questions until improvements are made for the nation’s betterment.

Read the full letter below,

“AN OPEN LETTER TO MR. PRESIDENT.

Mr. President, @officialABAT

I know you’re not new to the complexity of governance in Nigeria, and I truly hope you’re feeling the pulse of the nation at this point in time. I am one of your ardent supporters, and I won’t hesitate to be one of your critics when necessary. Sir, may I cast your mind back to 2012 when your party was able to convince Nigerians who had just had a beautiful yuletide celebration to take over the street in protest of the removal of subsidy on fuel. It was such a turning point for Jonathan’s administration and ushered in President Muhammadu Buhari. It might interest you to know that I wasn’t one of the Nigerians convinced then to vote Buhari. Can you now imagine what great protest it would be for Nigerians to troop into the streets because of hunger, insecurity and inability to afford basic amenities?. I don’t want to imagine it and talk more of joining them.

Your Excellency, good intentions are mere intentions without proper implementations. There are certain things that I expected will be quickly fixed to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal. I am yet to see a fully implemented plan in the short term. I used Moses and the Israelites’ journey from Egypt as an analogy in one of my write-ups, and it wasn’t a mistake. It was deliberate as you probably know that the Israelites got to a point and began to complain, preferring to go back to slavery in Egypt rather than moving forward. They got tired of Manna, and now Nigerians are asking, “Where is our manna for this time?” I waited for almost 2 years to join a protest against the former President Buhari’s administration because I believe that at least every new administration needs a minimum of one and a half years to stabilise. For every tick and tock on the clock, time is running on your administration.

Mr. President, it will be sad to lose the goodwill of over 8.9 million people who voted you because of the incompetence of the people in your cabinet. I believe at the mark of one year, there should be an appraisal of everyone, and those found wanting must go. Please, Sir, we are waiting patiently on the PCNG buses initiative and soft measures on food availability and affordability. The issue of electricity is deeply concerning. We need members of your cabinet to communicate more effectively with visible action plans. Nigerians followed the continuous updates from the minister of interior, the actions of Governor Wike, and the progress of minister Bosun Tijani. We are therefore forced to ask what the others are doing because we don’t want a situation where someone who served with you will enjoy the liberty of going on the media to proffer solutions where he or she one’s failed.

While I support your Excellency, I will keep asking the tough questions and not stop until you achieve success for the greater good of the nation. This nation must and should be better for all.

Thank you, your Excellency.

SEYILAW.”

“Give your son a name you love, not the one your wife suggested” – Nigerian man lectures men

A Nigerian man identified as Suleiman Enesi Umar advised his fellow men to give their male child a name they love and not the one their wife suggest. He noted a man is born to lead and a woman is born to follow.

Sharing via his Facebook page, he stated reasons why a woman shouldn’t be permitted to name her son. A man shouldn’t let his emotions sway him to allowing his wife to suggest a name for their male child.

There is no reason why food should be scarce in Nigeria Revive CRIN ( cocoa research institute ) what’s the point of UNAAB ( university of Agriculture Abeokuta ) declare a state of emergency on food production and insecurity now? Make it a priority to feed the people! Create incentives for any group or institution that takes farming and food production seriously, expand the agricultural curriculum in places of tertiary learning and revert back to making Nigeria an agricultural nation !!! These things are priorities !!!!!”

“Not all BBN girls are doing hook.up” – BBNaija star, Saga defends his colleagues

Reality Tv star, Saga Adeolu has refuted the popular perception that all of his female colleagues are involved in prostitution.

He revealed that some of the female BBNaija stars are close to him, and he can vouch for the fact that they put in a lot of effort to earn their money instead of using the platform to flaunt their bodies.

In a recent interview with The Punch, Saga made the statement and mentioned how he dislikes hearing such rumours from fans and critics.

He said;

“The biggest misconception is that every lady in BBN is a prostitute. That is a big lie. I know some of them that work so hard for their money, and they are doing great. So, I don’t like it when I hear those lies about them. Some people also think that we are not talented enough, and that hurts because a lot of us are gifted.

Another misconception is that people think we did not make any sacrifices to get to where we are. However, participating in BBN is a sacrifice that takes a lot from one. BBN is not for everyone. Sometimes, I advise some people against going for the show because I know it is not for them. Fans actually send us gifts because they are inspired by the sacrifices we made. Anyone that goes on that show deserves any gift they get.”

“Good looks help my acting career” – Tayo Faniran

Big Brother Africa star, Tayo Faniran has revealed that his physical appearance helps him land important jobs in the film business.

In an interview, he stated that even without speaking, people would like to see someone with broad shoulders and a black complexion on their TVs.

Tayo, however, pointed out that despite his looks, he is a skilled actor, and his combination of the two makes him an excellent fit for the parts he plays.

In his words; “Let’s say my looks have contributed to the kind of roles I get. I am six feet, four inches. I’m really tall and I have broad shoulders. I am dark-skinned as well. Those things, put together, already make me a super attractive personality for TV. If you see me on the screen, even without me talking, you would love to look at me.

It’s important that we (actors) attract the viewers to what we are showcasing, whether it’s storytelling, reality, or whatever it is. However, that’s not all there is to it. There are good-looking people on TV who are not good actors. I want to be a proper and versatile actor that can deliver, whether as a mechanic, farmer, or headmaster.”

A Nigerian man who identifies as @iamAbode has shared on the microblogging platform X, how his family members started treating him badly after he got suspended from work.

The young man had been suspended from work but decided to tell his family members that he was fired to see their reaction.

His tweets read;

“I got suspended from work because of some fraud issue that happened. I decided to go home to be with my family during that time. I jokingly lied to my mother and siblings that I got fired. The treatment towards me changed immediately; they started disrespecting me. My mother even told me that she couldn’t take care of an adult male and that I should go hustle. My sisters treated me like I was their junior, and I am the firstborn. My suspension took three months. In the end, I was cleared, and I am back at work. I told my family I was returning to Lagos to stay with a friend. These are the people that I’ve been taking care of since I started working at the age of 21. They sleep in a house I built. My other sister has a diploma I paid for. It took my suspension to finally see that they only want me when I provide something.”

“I’ve never received any significant award as an actor” – Deyemi Okanlawon

Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Deyemi Okanlawon has said that despite working in Nollywood for a considerable amount of time, he has never been given any serious awards in the country.

Okanlawon claimed that despite not receiving any recognition from the nation’s award organisers, he continues to stay motivated because he enjoys motivating himself.

In a recent interview with Hip TV, the seasoned actor said that while he would accept an award if one were to come his way, he would not let it define who he is.

The actor claimed that if he were the kind of guy who gets offended by these kinds of things, he would have been thinking about himself and wondering why he hasn’t won anything noteworthy yet.

He claimed he could confidently congratulate himself in the mirror after all of his accomplishments. Additionally, he added that rather than brushing off praises, he has learned to value them.

Okanlawon said:

“I have never won any of the serious awards in Nigeria. I have been around [in the entertainment industry] for long enough that if I were the type of person to feel a certain way, I would have been like, ‘Why had I not been awarded this or that?’

The truth is, I can look into my mirror and congratulate myself. I have done this all my life. And if recognition or validation comes from somewhere else, I will take it graciously. In fact, I had to learn to take compliments instead of deflecting them. Validation shouldn’t define you. If anything, my presence should validate an award, not the other way round.”
