Neighbours of a woman, who died last Friday in a hotel in Ikotun, Lagos State, have opened up on what transpired shortly before her death.
They said the deceased, who was identified only as Iya Ginika, had left home around 9pm on the day, telling her husband that she wanted to visit a friend in the neighbourhood.
The residents told our correspondent on Tuesday that the woman, in her 50s, had claimed that she wanted to collect something from the friend.
They added that they were shocked when news filtered in that she was found dead in Taola Hotel on Prince Adeyemi Street, Ikotun.
The deceased lived on K & S Street, Abaranje Road – a few kilometres from the hotel.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Monday that the woman and her lover had stayed in the hotel around 9.30pm on Friday and paid to spend an hour.
However, workers of the hotel became apprehensive when it was 12am the following day and the lovers did not check out.
One of the workers was said to have entered the room to discover that the woman was dead while her lover had fled.
The case was reported to the police at the Ikotun division.
A neighbour of the deceased told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that she had lied to her husband, identified simply as Henry, that she wanted to visit a friend who lived on Prince Adeyemi Street.
The neighbour, who did not want her name in print, said she was shocked when she learnt that the woman died in the hotel.
She said, “Around 9pm on Friday, she told her husband that she wanted to visit a friend on the street where the hotel is located. The husband and her children became confused when she did not return.
“It was the following day when the news of her death was broken that the husband realised he had lied to him. She was about 50 years old.
“Her husband is a motorcyclist and he tries his best to provide for the family. She used to run a lotto shop but later stopped. She sold fish and soup ingredients before her death,” he added.
When contacted, the deceased’s husband, Henry, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said she would be buried later this month. He, however, declined comments when asked where her late wife told him he was going on the day.
“She suffered from high blood pressure before her death. We will bury her later this month,” he said.
But the deceased’s daughter, who collected the phone from her father, said the family did not want to dwell on the incident in order to protect its image.
“We don’t want to be discussing this matter. We have our future to protect and we don’t want the incident to destroy the image of the family. Please, don’t call this number again,” she added.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the police were still on the trail of the fleeing lover.

A Kano Magistrates’ Court today denied bail to the five men who allegedly killed 74-year-old Mrs Bridget Agbahime in Kano on June 2.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Agbahime was murdered at Kofar Wambai Market, Kano, over alleged blasphemy.
The accused persons: Dauda Ahmed, Abdulmumeen Mustafa, Zubairu Abubakar, Abdullahi Abubakar and Musa Abdullahi, were charged with inciting, disturbance, culpable homicide, joint act and mischief.
The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril, in his ruling said the court, under Section 361 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, had the discretion to hear the bail application.
But it has no power to grant the accused persons bail, he said.
“Though, no material evidence to give the court, first information report is simply information. “It shows the jurisdiction of a court to admit an accused person to bail, only when there is no evidence to prove the accused person committed an offence.’’
He said that the court had no power to grant the five suspects bail, though the court is convinced that investigation had been completed in the case diary sent to the State Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
Jibril, therefore, ordered the five suspects to be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to Aug.18, for further mention.
However, Gambo Abdulsalam, the Defence Counsel for all the suspects, told the court that he would forward the bail application ruling to the High Court, Kano.
He said this was to enable him seek for their bail, since the court has the right to grant them bail.
The Kastina State Police Command is holding a family of five in its custody for allegedly feeding a day-old baby boy to a dog as meal.
The incident happened at Saika village in Batsari Local Government Area.
The suspects include 15-year-old Wosila Halilu, her three stepbrothers and her mother.
It was alleged that Wosila, who is the mother of the baby, got pregnant after she was raped by a 27 year-old farmer, Musa Garba. She alleged that the farmer lured her into his farm where he committed the act.
Police sources said the family viewed the pregnancy and subsequent delivery of the baby as shameful, since she was not married.
They, therefore, held a meeting where it was alleged that Wosila’s mother and her step brothers decided that the baby should be fed to a dog.
The village head of Saika, known as Dakacin Seika, reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of the family and the the farmer.
Garba is in police custody for alleged rape.
The culprits were brought before a Kastina Magistrate Court on three count of culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy and rape. The prosecution said the offences were in contravention of sections 235, 387 and 85 of the Penal code.
Magistrate Nura Ladan ordered further investigation into the incident. He directed that the suspects be remanded in police custody until the case comes up for further hearing on August 8, 2016.

To this end, many Nigerians prefer to call him some names owing to his background, political life, and the how the nation has fared under his one year administration.
However, many make mockery and humour of situations to christen the president 73 years after his official christening by parents.
Here are some funny names Nigerians call President Muhammadu Buhari:
(1) Sai Baba
This is the slogan, used majorly during the electioneering campaign in 2015. And till today, Northerners use the word frequently to praise the president. (4) Anti-corruption

A mother with the world’s largest natural breasts has revealed how her 102ZZZ-cup assets have netted her millions.
The woman identified as Annie Hawkins-Turner, who is better known by the pseudonym Norma Stitz (a play on the phrase “enormous t**s”), is celebrating 25 years since she turned her giant boobs into a successful business.
In a report by The Sun, the 57-year-old fetish model from Atlanta, Georgia has held the Guinness World Record for her eye-poppingly voluptuous cleavage since 1999 and her breasts are still growing.
The breasts weighing a staggering 65lbs each and are over four and a half foot in length has proved to be a beneficial asset. Speaking about how it all started, Annie said she began developing breasts at the age of five, and by nine they were a size 36D.
“When I was a teenager I struggled with the fact my breasts just kept growing and growing,” she said.
“Finally I was diagnosed with of gigantomastia, a condition that involves slow, progressive growth of breast tissue which is why my breasts continue to grow even today.”
Annie was dubbed “whale boob girl” by her peers and feared boys only wanted to date her because of her large chest.
After she dated and married her husband who later passed away, he encouraged her to make money from her massive asset. Her husband, Allen Turner, an air force officer who was 20 years her senior encouraged her which later saw the business bloom.
“To my shock I discovered Allen loved big women and thought my breasts were magnificent,” she said.
“Despite the age gap we got on really well. He boosted my confidence continually told me I was beautiful and accepted me and my kids.”
After dating for five years the pair got married and Allen encouraged Annie to start making the most of her super-size breasts.
“He encouraged me to send in some pictures to a specialist magazine a year after we met and I was inundated with requests,” she said.
“It was a magazine that featured white women and I was featured, breaking, I guess, another record.”
Annie’s career blossomed from there – she set up a website and charged men to admire her boobs. Within months she had over a million subscribers and made £40,000 in her first year. Annie credit’s her success to Allen and says without him she would not have achieved the career she has.
He sadly died of lung cancer in 2003 but Annie has carried on with her business, which sees her model, lecture and make special appearances.
All is not that rosy though. She cannot sleep on her back because the weight of assets could crush her, has to have s*x on her side and has never breast fed her children – Darius and Clara – in case she smothers them.
But she feels these inconveniences do not matter because her boobs have earned her over a million pounds.
Over a year ago when Boko Haram insurgents swept through the fishing community of Baga in northern Borno State, horrified residents had limited options. The militants attacked and killed many, locals and security operatives alike.
58 year old Jummai Ibrahim,pictured above, who now takes refuge at an IDP camp in Borno state, recently told the heart wrenching story of how Boko Haram terrorists stormed her village in Doro-Baga and forced her to watch as they beheaded her 21 year old son. Speaking to Premium Times, Jummai said;
“I lost many of my relatives while fleeing from Baga. Immediately we made it to the outskirts of Baga, Boko Haram gunmen intercepted us and took away one of my daughters who was two months pregnant and her three-year-old son and 13 other ladies who were either my cousins or my husband’s younger ones that were living with us. One of my sons, Habibu, who was about 21 years old was killed by Boko Haram.
When they saw him with me, one of the Boko Haram gunmen told me that ‘Mama this your son is old enough to join the Civilian-JTF, so he is assumed to be a potential member of the Civilian-JTF’.
For that reason they dragged him to the ground in my presence and slit his throat. They wanted to force me to hold his legs while they were cutting off his neck, and I told them I could not do such thing.
I attempted to close my eyes because I could not stand to see how they were killing my own son like an animal, but one of them hit me with the butt of their gun on my arm, and insisted that I must watch them as they killed my son. I watched him cry and calling on me to help him, when I cried out that I could not help him, then he kept on screaming that ‘mama pray for me, and forgive me if I ever offended you, pray for me’…(sobs)…that was how my child was slaughtered and beheaded,” Jummai narrated, weeping. “I have seen pains and torture from Baga to Maiduguri.”she said
Jummai says she used to be a fish merchant when she was in Doro-Baga but she lost all to the attacks of the insurgents
“Now I am left with nothing except rags. Last year, Borno State government came to share clothes for us and that was what we have been using since then. As you can see now, the clothes have turned to rags because of everyday use. Look at my body, look at our skins, we lack soaps to bathe and even the cheapest cream to oil our body. We do not even have washing bar to wash our clothes. It is so pathetic. It is even more pathetic now that I have over 20 children including some of my own that were able to make it on their own to this camp and those of neighbours that have been killed, all living with me in the same apartment here in the camp. Food that was recently distributed by the Borno state governor during this Ramadan did not get to us in our own house. We have to depend on one or two measures of rice that some good relatives brought to us. Just imagine the irony of life…(sobs)… me a woman of means in Baga, whom people do come to meet for help; even when the local government council was in difficulties, they do come to me for assistance which I did render without blinking an eyelid. I was a very independent woman financially. I was very famous and prominent in my community; none of our Lawans (District Head) and Bulamas (village heads) would say they don’t know me”she said

A 48-year-old Ghanaian man identified as Agyeman, who was caught red-handed r*ping his 14-year-old daughter, has justified his wicked act by saying that since he was the one who gave birth to the girl and has been taking care of her since her mother left him, he had every right to have s*x with her before other men would start enjoying her.
The Ghanaian man whon lives in the Agbado-Oke-Aro area of Ogun State, was caught in the act on Monday, July 18, 2016, after neighbours heard the screams of the girl in their one room apartment, and when the neighbours went to find out why the Junior Secondary School (JSS 2), girl who was supposed to be in school, they met her father on top of her.
According to an eye witness who is a resident in the compound which the victim and his father lives;
“Baba Adjoa has been living in the yard for over 12 years but we do not know if he is possessed because at times, he behaved like a mad man.
He is an all purpose labourer but most times, you will find him at ‘ogogoro’ (illicit gin) palours drinking to stupor.
“His wife left him in 2008 and since then, he has been living with his children all alone. On that day, I was sleeping in my room because I came back from work in the morning, when I heard a fellow tenant, Iya Calabar, knocking on my door to come and help her find out why Adjoa was screaming in their room.
“I went out immediately and met two other neighbours who were banging on Agyeman’s door asking him to open but he refused. We actually thought he was beating his daughter because he is used to beating them mercilessly.
“But when we heard the girl screaming that her daddy wanted to kill her, we had to break the door and what we found shocked all of us.
“Agyeman was n*ked and having s*x with his daughter. We had to force him off the small girl. Of course, we gave him some beating but what he said was a surprise to us all.
“He was saying that he had every right to have s*x with his daughter, after all he was the one who gave birth to her and had been taking care of her. On interrogation, the girl said her father has been raping her since last year and had vowed to kill her if she ever told anyone.
“Some youths in the area wanted to lynch him but they were prevailed upon by elders who saved him and took him away. We have reported the case to the police,” the eye witness said.

A shocking incident has left residents of Mempeasem, near East Legon in Accra, in shock, after a 20-year-old woman allegedly beat her three-year-old step daughter to death.
According to AdomNews, Judith Atatsi, unemployed, is said to have used her shoe to beat the girl for playing with electrical gadgets.
The victim, after sustaining injuries, was left in the room of her father until she died. The father of the girl, according to reports, was outside Accra when the incident occurred.
She was found lying in a supine position with blood stains all over the body on the bed of her father.
The body of the child, found with various marks and wounds, has since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
Narrating the incident to DAILY GUIDE, the East Legon District Crime Officer, DSP Belinda Banini, said the suspect was arrested following a complaint by the mother of the victim, Felicia Abotse that her former husband had called her from the Upper East Region to inform her that her daughter had died and so she should go to his house at Mempeasem to convey the body to and needed police assistance.
DSP Belinda Banini said when the police accompanied the woman to the house at Mempeasem, they found the body lying on a bed with blood stains on it.
According to the police, the mother of the child claimed that the father of the child took her from her (mother) in December 2015 to spend the weekend with her paternal grandmother at Takoradi in the Western Region.
She said the father later refused to bring back the child.
DSP Belinda Banini said the mother claimed that all efforts to see the child or inquire about the child on phone proved futile until she received the call on July 16, 2016 that her daughter had died.
Suspect’s statement
Judith Atatsi, upon investigation, said she used a piece of stick to hit the girl and not shoe. She said she went out to withdraw some money and upon her return, she discovered that the girl was playing with the electrical gadgets and used the stick to beat her up.
She later abandoned the girl in her father’s room until she died before the father was informed. However, police investigations showed that Atatsi used the heels of her shoe which was found with blood stains on it, to assault the kid.
Further investigations revealed that the child’s father, after separating with the mother, brought his girlfriend from Takoradi to take care of his daughter while he travelled to Bolgatanga to work.
The man, said to be a supervisor in a private company, reportedly shuffles between Accra and Takoradi.
Madam Felicia Abotsi, mother of the deceased, in an interview, said she had been calling the father of her child to plead with him to allow her to talk to her daughter on phone “but he usually gives excuses that he is either at work or the child had gone to school.”

A man who got enraged after his girlfriend came to see him while on her period has shown his anger in some really evil way.
The man got really angry with his girlfriend after she visited him while on her menstrual cycle and beat her to death.
The man beat her to death because she would not let them get intimate.
According to South Africa Latest News, the events leading to the gruesome murder suggest that the lady, Ntabiseng of Soshanguve in Pretoria visited her boyfriend, Nkululeko of Durban, some 560km away for the weekend.

He made the assertion during a program on Joy FM. His words:
“Men can cheat because we bought the wedding ring and we organised the wedding and you bear our surname. Even the word bride means a cook. When you find the man cheating, you leave him to God because that was what our mother and grandmothers did.”

Knowing when you’re in love can be a bit tricky, especially if you just started dating. Some experts say that, after two months, it’s okay to finally say those three little words.
But judging from the thousands of testimonies saying that time varies for each person, it’s safe to say that you don’t have to wait for two months—or you might have to wait longer than that.
It’s not all that reassuring, but hear us out. No matter how long it takes for you to fall in love, it is worth more than the waiting time you invest. Falling in love is the best feeling in the world; that’s why it’s always best to pace yourself until you find the real thing.
What does it feel like to be in love?
For one thing, it feels awesome. Being in love means that you feel happier rather than sad and that the source of that happiness mostly comes from the person you love. There are different ways a person can feel love, but it usually starts with rollercoasters in your chest or stomach. It’s a physical reaction that tells you that you feel strongly about someone.
It could be infatuation, but that’s how love usually starts. Still, it’s your job to keep it alive…until the day comes when you’re finally sure that it is, indeed, real love.
Aside from that, you can also feel that you’re falling in love gradually. It isn’t as strong as a sudden jolt to your system, but a slowly-increasing level of intimacy will lead you to the same path.
You can’t control which category you fall into, or whether or not your partner will feel the same way. All you can do is sit tight and wait for those fuzzy feeling to overwhelm you—in a good way.
How do you know if you’re in love?

“The teacher, who was embarrassed by the abuse, held one of the Hausa teenagers. There was a struggle between them. As the teacher hit the man, he also fought back and held the teacher by the neck, almost strangulating him.
“The principal, who wanted to settle the fight, was held by the tie by one of the intruders and beaten up. The principal’s brother, who wanted to rescue him, was given a fist blow in the eye.”
Punch correspondent was told that the teenagers damaged about four dozen of the chairs used for the party. Three of them were later apprehended by the school.
Those apprehended were reportedly held hostage in a classroom, while the others wreaked havoc on the school premises.
A source told PUNCH Metro that the apprehended teenagers, however, mobilised more gang members into the community on the telephone.
He said:
“Those boys had their phones and they started calling their friends, who trooped into the school with cutlasses and weapons.
“Policemen at the school’s gate prevented them from gaining entrance as they shot into the air. The hoodlums, however, grew in number, which overwhelmed the security agents.
“Despite the gunshots, the teenagers refused to go. In fact, while some of them knelt, others prostrated and were begging the police to shoot at them. They were saying, ‘Please shoot us; we want to die’.”
It was gathered that some OPC members later came out with weapons and engaged the hoodlums.
The proprietor of the school was reported to have called for reinforcement from SARS operatives, who stormed the community.
“The SARS operatives started shooting into the air. They chased the teenagers and arrested seven of them. They also seized their motorcycles and recovered some of the weapons they brought,” another source said.
It was learnt that some Hausa leaders had visited the school and held a truce meeting with the management.
The Proprietor of the school, Chief Yomi Otubela, said it was only a minor disagreement among pupils of the school.
He said:
“The issue was about some teenagers who had issues with themselves on where to park their cars. The police that were on duty at the school gate actually mediated. No school property was damaged; nothing happened during our valedictory service.”
But the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the attack, adding that seven suspects had been arrested.
She said:
“Some hoodlums entered the school’s premises and destroyed some property. They allegedly made away with N1.5m.
“Our operatives from the Elere divison were contacted and they swiftly moved in and arrested seven of the suspects.
The suspects have been handed over to the Area G headquarters for further investigation.”
Following reports that Mama Africa, Yemi Alade might be in a romantic relationship with her manager, Taiye Aliyu, the singer addresses the issue.
In a recent interview with newsmen, Yemi Alade says the question of dating her manager should not have come up in the first place if she had a female manager.
In the entertainment industry, it is more likely for an artiste to have some sort of bond with their manager, considering the fact that they are always together, through good times and bad times. It is therefore nothing new for stars to date their managers.
Tiwa Savage had an affair with her manager, although it ended in the altar, the final end is yet to be deciphered. A few weeks back, rumours had it that Starboy Wizkid might be having an affair with his manager, Jada P. Keeping all these in mind, Yemi Alade surely knows what is best for her and her career and so she debunks the rumour of dating her manager, without necessarily stating the fact.
Read excerpts below:
On dating her manager: Male Managers no be human being? The managers are there to take care of the careers. But seriously, if I had a female manager would you be asking me all these?
On being a Nairabox ambassador: I’m happy. Being a Nairabox Ambassador doesn’t hurt anybody, so why would I say no. It’s a cool trend. I like to be part of trend setting people, so that’s one of the reasons I accepted the deal.
On keeping up with male entertainers: The pressure is there because I have to keep up with what my male counterparts are doing. It’s also tough and challenging because in African the women are always looked down upon. There’s a lot of physical and psychological issues that we tackle as African female artistes whether you are A’ List or Z list. Well, I have chosen to be on God’s list.
On attending the BET Awards: BET is a big award ceremony and African categories had just 6. We all know that in Nigeria alone, we have over 15 popular artistes that are doing well; both male and female. Then in the whole Africa, I was picked amongst the first 6 in three different categories year after year which means that i’m doing something very good. I didn’t come back dry. I was next to Beyonce and her likes.
