Uganda’s Commercial court has ordered MTN Uganda to pay a sum of Shs 2.3bn (about $662,000) which is about N190 million in damages to EzeeMoney Limited for sabotaging its business.
It all started when EzeeMoney, which runs an e-money business, obtained a contract from MTN for the provision of digital transmission [E1] and 30 fixed telephone lines to carry out its mobile money business.
After agreeing to the terms of the contract, EzeeMoney then contracted Yo! Uganda Limited (YUL) to implement the service after Uganda Communications Commission, the regulator, approved it on December 2012, to use the 7711 short code to enable its customers to subscribe for e-money services.
However in 2013, MTN after doing a review of the contract, canceled it, saying EzeeMoney was a direct competitor to its mobile money business.
Through AF Mpanga and company advocates, EzeeMoney went to court, saying MTN’s action “restricted and distorted competition.” EzeeMoney said MTN also damaged its ties with YUL and deprived it of services of other telecommunications operators.
It argued that MTN used its exclusivity agreements to stop its agents from working for any other firm with similar business, further limiting competition.
Delivering judgement in a suit filed by Ezeemoney limited on November 6th, the presiding judge, Justice Henry Peter Adonyo ordered MTN to stop acting in an unlawful and anti-competitive manner, which denies other businesses an opportunity to prosper. Justice Adonyo said MTN should pay Shs 800m to EzeeMoney in general damages for loss of business.
He also directed the telecommunications company to pay a penalty of Shs 1.5bn in punitive damages to deter not only MTN but also warn other companies against uncompetitive business tactics.
Two explosions, believed to be from improvised explosive devices, have gone off in Kano, a PREMIUM TIMES correspondent in the city is reporting.
“Explosions have gone off at Kano GSM market around farm centre,” reporter Mohammed Ahmad said. “I’m rushing to the scene.”
Details of the incident are still sketchy, our correspondent says.
“Many people are however feared dead, and several others injured,” he said.
A witness said the first explosion occurred at the market entrance while the second device exploded near a pavilion in the centre of the market.
He said two vans filled with victims were driven away from the scenes of the explosions.
Our reporter, on arriving the scene, later said a teenage suicide bomber is believed to be behind one of the explosions.
An elderly suicide bomber is believed to ferried the second device right into the centre of the market.
He reported seeing a detached human leg, believed to belong to the teenage suicide bomber, near the gate of the market, which was filled to capacity at the time of the incident.
Another witness told our reporter that he was part of those that prevented the teenage bomber from entering the market, forcing her to detonate her device at the gate.
Traders were seen carrying corpses and injured people to hospitals in cars owned by good Samaritans.
The Kano state police commissioner, Muhammadu Katsina, confirmed the incident.
He told journalists the two explosive devices were detonated by two female suicide bombers.
Mr. Katsina said only three people died in the incident. But our reporter said he saw a far higher number of victims taken away from the scene.
The incident came less than 24 hours after a similar explosion in a crowded park in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, left at least 34 people dead and 80 injured.
Today’s blast is the first attack on Kano since July 6 when a female suicide bomber struck near a Mosque in the city, killing herself.
The teenage bomber had detonated the explosive at 9:30 p.m that day after she was prevented from accessing the Umar Bin Khatab mosque along Zaria Road.
The incident happened just as faithful were dispersing after observing the late night (Tarawih) prayer.

Character over the years is temptations over the years. Temptation basically, means testing for weakness.

Over 20 armed robbers invaded several streets at Isale-Oja area of Agege, Lagos State on Sunday morning. In their wake, they left sorrow, tears and blood. The bandits shot dead a father of two and raped three girls.
The daredevil robbers, who started their operation from Capitol Road, raided over 30 buildings in different areas and dispossessed victims of valuables.
Residents of some of the streets said the robbers operated unchallenged for hours. They said they called police, but police did not show up until the robbers left.
According to News Telegraph, a resident said that the father of two, Usman Muhammed, 30, would have been alive if but for his attempt to stab one of the robbers. One of the bandits shot him. The bullet which killed Muhammed hit a lady in the compound.

The lady, identified as Rabi, is presently battling to stay alive at a private hospital. Another resident said:
“The robbers, numbering over 20, stormed the streets in commercial buses and started operation from Capitol Road.
The robbers killed Muhammed after collecting N32,000 from him. They moved to Akerele and Papa Uku streets in the same community where they raped and robbed residents.”
Muhammed’s widow, Hauwa, recalled her husband’s last moments. She said:
“About 12:24am, we heard someone knocking on our door. We were surprised. My husband asked who was there, but the person didn’t answer My husband went and opened the door. He saw the armed robbers. They were four at the door. One of them pointed his gun at my husband. We later heard that others were outside, waiting.They followed my husband into our apartment.”
Hauwa explained that after the bandits gained entry into their apartment, they demanded Muhammed’s money and her own jewellery.
She said:
“My husband and I handed over the money and the jewellery. Just as they were leaving, my husband dashed into the kitchen, brought a knife and attempted to stab one of the robbers. It was at that point they shot him in the stomach.”
Muhammed’s shooting took place in the corridor of the building.
The bullet killed Muhammed and also hit Rabi who was inside her apartment. A resident said:
“We rushed Muhammed to two private hospitals in the community, but he was rejected. He died on the way to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).”
The residents urged the government to do something about security of the area. Mr Kunle Idowu, a resident of Papa Uku Street, said:
“The robbers robbed somewhere at Capitol Road before coming to our street. My house is close to the main road.
The robbers were fully armed and came prepared. They called names of prominent people in the community. They said they came to collect what belonged to them. We couldn’t sleep. It was like a war zone. Every tenant lost one or two of their valuables.“Three of our girls in the community were raped when the robbers could not get anything from their parents. Government should come to our rescue. We can’t walk freely at night.”
A resident of Akerele Street said he was angry with the police. According to him, when they got wind that the robbers were around, they quickly called the phone number of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Isoko Police Station, but the police did not come until the robbers left. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joe Offor, said he was not aware of the incident.

A quite angry mob invaded the church of controversial South African pastor, Penuel Mnguni, on Sunday 15th of November. The End Time Disciples Ministries is the church where the pastor asked his congregation to eat snakes and stones telling them it tastes like chocolate. (See Here)
The angry mobs had the pastor and one of his associates tied up and beaten. His church was also burnt to ashes in Mmakaunyane Village in the North Western part of South Africa.
Penuel had been in hiding for sometime after South African vigilante group, the Economic Freedom Fighters, burnt his church at Soshanguve in Tshwane. He then relocated inside a bush in Mmakaunyane community but was nabbed.
The pastor has come under fire for giving his congregation fuel to drink ,snakes to eat as well as feeding them grass. He is also known to sit on their backs or stomp on them.

Mother to current head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 football team, Samson Siasia has reportedly been kidnapped. Gunmen stormed the family residence of the Siasia’s in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Odoni community in Bayelsa State, forcefully whisking her away on a motorcycle. The kidnappers are yet to demand ransom from the family.
Speaking to the media on the incident, a distraught Siasia said:
“Right now I am confused, from the story I got, three men on motorbike stormed my parents’ house in my village Odoni in Bayelsa State, shot sporadically into the air before taking my old mother away on a bike.
“What do they expect from me? I don’t have money, I am right now on national duty, and need all the time to concentrate on this very important national task. So, I beg them to please release my mother so that I can concentrate on this task of qualifying the U-23 National Team for the men’s football event of the Rio Olympics.”
NFF president, Amaju Pinnick has appealed to the kidnappers to release the 72 year old mother of the coach saying:
“Samson is on a critical national assignment presently and the last he needs is this kind of distraction,”

Obotie Adesuwa, a female sergeant, is currently in the cell of the X-Squad Section of the Lagos State Police Command, after she allegedly sold a week-old baby boy who had been brought with his mother to a police station.
According to PUNCH Metro, Adesuwa, who hails from Edo State, is attached to the Akinpelu Police Division, where the baby boy and her mother, Toyin, who is said to be mentally unstable, had also been brought to by a Good Samaritan.
It was gathered that the Good Samaritan, who was taking care of the baby’s mother, had brought Toyin and her child to the station after Toyin was delivered of the baby in a psychiatric hospital.
They were reportedly brought to the police in the last week of September, where Adesuwa, who was on duty, had received the baby.
It was gathered that there was, however, trouble at the Akinpelu division on Monday, November 9, when Toyin showed up at the station to ask for her baby, but the sergeant allegedly denied knowing the woman.
The matter had caused an altercation during which the Divisional Police Officer invited the mother and the sergeant and interrogated them. The sergeant was said to have confessed to the DPO that she collected the baby but had sold him.
A police source told the publication that Adesuwa allegedly took the baby to her village in Edo State, and later sold him to a family in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Adesuwa, who allegedly failed to record the incident in the crime diary of the police station on the fateful evening, was then arrested and taken to the Area F command, Ikeja, from where she was later transferred to the X-Squad Section.
It was revealed by a source:
“The incident happened at the Akinpelu Police Division. The sergeant received the report of a mentally deranged woman and her newborn baby. But on the same evening, she was said to have arranged for the woman and the baby to be put inside a car and driven away by unknown persons.
“At a junction, the baby’s mother was given N500 and asked to alight. The car drove away with the baby. It was on Monday, November 9, that the mother unbelievably showed up at the station to ask for her baby. The sergeant initially denied ever meeting her.
“The DPO was later informed, and took all of them to the Area Commander, and then the female sergeant was arrested. The baby has now been recovered.”
Another source, who claimed to have spoken with Adesuwa after her arrest, added that the sergeant gave the baby to one of her relatives in Edo State to sell to a couple in Port Harcourt at an undisclosed amount.
She explained that the baby was later rescued through the help of policemen while the buyer was also arrested.
She said:
“The mother of the baby came to ask after him about two months after and that was when the bubble burst. When Adesuwa denied ever knowing her, the baby’s mother was enraged and went to report to the DPO.
“The DPO then ordered that Adesuwa be detained.That was when she confessed to the DPO that the baby had been taken to her village, and later sold in Port Harcourt. The suspect, was however, able to help in recovering the baby.
“The woman, who helped her to carry the baby to Port Harcourt, has also been arrested. She (Adesuwa) told us, her police friends, that it was the devil that pushed her to commit the crime.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relatisons Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed Adesuwa’s arrest, adding that investigation was ongoing.
He said, “The sergeant was arrested in connection with a stolen baby boy. Investigation is ongoing.

A suspected terrorist plot is said to have been foiled in Germany last night after a series of bomb scares rocked Hannover, causing the soccer match between Germany and Netherlands to be canceled 90 minutes before kickoff.
French intelligence officials were reported to have warned their German counterparts about a potential attack, using an explosives-laden vehicle with official access to the football stadium, such as an ambulance, TV crew van or security patrol car.

According to German newspaper Bild, a North African terror cell was planning to attack Hannover with assault rifles and suicide vests – chillingly similar to the methods used in Paris on Friday which killed 129.
The arena was evacuated after a suspected suspect package was found. It is then thought a truck or van disguised as an ambulance was found packed with explosives.
A van was seen being taken away from the area as an immediate threat and terror warning was extended to all of Hannover and a road block was put in place as the evacuation took place.
The Dalai Lama has stated that God will not help humans in the wake of the ISIS Paris attack – because ‘humans have created this problem’.
The Tibetan spiritual leader said the rise of suicide bombings could not be countered ‘only through prayers‘ and described the terrorists as ‘short-sighted‘.
The 80-year-old told DW:
‘We cannot solve this problem only through prayers. I am a Buddhist and I believe in praying. But humans have created this problem, and now we are asking God to solve it. It is illogical. God would say, solve it yourself because you created it in the first place.
‘We need a systematic approach to foster humanistic values, of oneness and harmony. If we start doing it now, there is hope that this century will be different from the previous one. It is in everybody’s interest.
So let us work for peace within our families and society, and not expect help from God, Buddha or the governments.’

Heavily pregnant celebrity, Kim Kardashian who has been straight forward about her second pregnancy experience has revealed that she may have to get a hysterectomy (have her uterus removed) after she gives birth to her second child come December.
In her latest blog post titled High-Risk Pregnancy, she says:

“With the issues I had last time, my risk of having preclampsia and placenta acreeta are increased and there’s not a whole lot I can do to prevent it, so my anxiety is a little high leading up to my delivery.
In a very rare case, I might need a hysterectomy after delivery if my condition is severe enough, but luckily my doctor doesn’t think this will happen.
So as time goes on, I am stressing out less and trying to go with the flow. We induced my labor and I had North soon after. Right after delivery, the placenta usually then comes out. Mine did not. My placenta stayed attached inside my uterus, which is a condition called placenta accreta…”
My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails. How disgusting and painful!”
“My advice to anyone going through this or anything difficult during pregnancy is that all you can do is be hopeful, get the best information out there and just be prepared. The more information you have, the better you know how to handle it!”
