Two residents from the Araromi Quarters in Ketu Area of Lagos State, were reportedly electrocuted in broad day light. The victims, identified as Bashirat Rauf, a mother of two and Sodiq Saka, a wood seller, met their untimely fate under the same circumstance.
Bashirat Rauf was said to have rushed out from her apartment when she saw fire burning from a cable in a nearby school. She reportedly decided to quickly pick her children who were playing outside in order to avoid being caught by the fire when she got electrocuted in the process.
On his part, Sodiq Saka, 33, a plank seller, was said to had gone to fetch water to put off the fire in the school premises when he saw flame coming out of their compound and he got electrocuted in the process.
According to Mr. Saka Imam, the father of late Sodiq:
“As a Muslim, I have accepted my fate. There is nothing I could do to bring the dead back to life. “We were to gather on that fateful day. He was the one who slaughtered the Sallah ram he bought for me.
After that, he told me he was coming to get something down the street, only for someone to come and call me that my son had been electrocuted in the neighbourhood.
I was told by some witnesses at the scene of the incident that my son only went into the compound of the school premises where it was burning to assist the owner of the house, only for him to be electrocuted by the falling cable.
Sodiq was said to had stepped on the naked cable while trying to put off the fire. What else do I do, I cannot give birth to a grown up boy like him.”
The Secretary of Araromi Community Development Association, Mr.Wahab Awoyemi , described the incident as a very sad one for all resident of Araromi community.

She rushed out to pick her children who were playing outside their compound and stepped on the naked cable. She was electrocuted immediately.
“We made serious effort to rescue both of them. We went to Eko distribution company office at mile 12 to switch off the light. The person who was supposed to switch off the power was said not be on duty.
But with providence, they took off the power. It was after then we were able to remove them from the burning cable and took them to a private hospital in the community where they were later pronounced dead by the medical doctor of the hospital.”
“Before the ugly incident, we called on Eko Disco officials to come fix the cable before it will kill someone in the community. They did not come until two lives were consumed. We want government to come to our aid in the community.

It’s not new to ears that former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi‘s nomination as minister has attracted several petitions.
The politician has now written three letters on why the Senate should not stop his screening as a ministerial nominee.
According to The Nation, he said the allegations against him were not only false but also made malafide with the intent to “solely irritate, embarrass and tarnish his hard-earned reputation.”
He said he should be presumed innocent until the contrary is proved.
He said since there are pending cases at the Federal High Court, Abuja and the Court of Appeal, any action by the Senate will be subjudice.
He asked the Senate to preserve its Standing Order which bars it from dabbling in any matter pending before a court.
Amaechi broke his silence in three separate letters to the President of the Senate, Dr.Bukola Saraki, and Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
The letters were written by his solicitor, Edward E. Pepple.
In the letters, he asked the Senate to “discard” the petition against him by the Integrity Group and the report of the Justice G. G. Omereji Judicial Commission of Inquiry.
Citing the case of ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Amaechi said the Supreme Court had emphasized that an indictment by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry or Administrative Panel is not an “indictment” or sufficient for the purpose of preventing a person from holding a public office.
The October 12 letter to Saraki (EW/GC/CRA/15/012) reads in part:
:“ It has informally come to our client’s attention that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by the Governor of Rivers State, Chief/Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to judicially investigate our client and probe into some transactions of the Rivers State Government undertaken during the tenure of our client has purportedly come up with a report based on which the Governor and Government of Rivers State have supposedly also issued a White Paper, wherein it has proposed that certain steps and actions should be taken against our client.
“Of course, this is clearly in defiance of the pending suit at the Court of Appeal on the issue.
“It is important to mention that our client only became aware of this situation through a news bulletin aired on both the Channels Television and the Independent African Television (AIT). Apart from those, no other form of communication has been sent to our client, whether directly or indirectly.
“As had been mentioned in our earlier letters, our client is challenging the competence and validity of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry and its powers to make any valid or binding decision or pronouncement as it relates to him.

2015 has been a relatively dull year for hip-hop in Nigeria causing many to question whether hip-hop is dying in Nigeria, or if it was ever alive long enough to be considered seriously.

While some praised her and called her act, “Art”, not many people approved of this as they have slammed her for carrying such an absurd act.
Among those who highly disapproves this is actress/mother of three, who we earlier speculated has marital problems with her billionaire husband, Musa Danjuma, Caroline Danjuma.
She took to her Instagram page to slam the “German Juice” crooner saying that what she did is absolutely wrong and also calling out Child agencies in Nigeria, telling them to take note.
She shared the photo and wrote:
“It takes a child 5 years to fully grow perfectly… This is absolutely wrong… I always mind my biz but this baffles me … When wiz kalifa did a similar thing with his own son he was called to order by child support and he apologised.. Chris brown can’t get into Australia because of what he did to Rihanna.. Pls how is it ok to smoke In front of a child who is barely 2 yrs old.. Like seriously … A lot of kids are dying from VSD and ASD… A little sniff of nicotine is a huge damage to a child… And yet this picture is circulating and being praised.

The former PresidentGoodluck Jonathan’s special Adviser on Media, Reuben Abati, has dismissed the widespread view that the former president lost the last election because of incompetence and being clueless.
In his his first major interview in the October/November edition of The Interview which is to be released next week, Abati said that Mr. Jonathan was, “a victim of power game” and the vicious propaganda of the opposition.
“All they could focus on was trying to discredit the president. They called him clueless; they said he was incompetent; they said he was a drunkard!”
In a separate interview also featured in the coming edition of The Interview, Mr. Femi Adesina, the senior adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, said he knew that Jonathan would lose and was not surprised when it happened.
“If Jonathan had won the election, Nigeria would have shut down”, he said, adding that the government had run out of steam
The now a student, also spoke on the last days of Jonathan in the Aso Rock Villa, his own controversial retraction of the article against Buhari, the attitude of the moneybags who abandoned Jonathan in his moment of need, his relationship with former first lady, Patience Jonathan, and his love-hate drama with many of his passionate fans.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, who was few weeks ago, kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen on his 77th birthday and was released after paying N5m ransom four days after, has reportedly identified his abductors who were paraded before him by the police.
Vanguard reports that the Chief, Falae on Tuesday, identified three of the suspects as those who kidnapped him and threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the ransom. According to a police source Chief Falae, also identified one of the kidnappers who was kind to him.
Well, how interesting is this? This should give a quite clear explanation why he carries bells along with him, most of the time.
Put aside his crazy act and his “Sangolo” whatever… Nigerian singer, Terry G has newly disclosed that he is gonna be a pastor one day and that the secular music he’s into now, is only temporary.
In a recent interview, the music act is quoted saying:
“By God’s grace, it has been prophesied that God is going to use me to prophesy to multitudes, and I think I’m already doing that in a way, but when God calls me at the right time, I will go for it fully.”
: “Sometimes, you need to put yourself in people’s shoes. When a preacher is preaching to you, and you already knew all what he was going to say, it might not sound interesting. I think God knows why He chose a path for everybody because if you look at it, everybody has done gospel music at some point, it worked for some people, and didn’t work for some. That is because we have different purposes in life. I’m only doing this secular music temporarily.”
A woman and her seven-year-old daughter have reportedly died from a generator fire which also set their apartment located at, 15 Andem Street, 8 miles, on the outskirt of Calabar metropolis in Cross Rivers State, ablaze.
Vanguard learnt that the tragic incident which took place on Wednesday, this week, had two other family members, including husband of the deceased, Mr. Lawrence, and his brother-in-law, who also sustained burns, hospitalised.
It was gathered that the duo were trying to refill the generator with petrol when it caught fire.
However, a source who preferred anonymity, revealed to the publication that the generator had not been in use for a long time, and that the husband of the deceased had instructed his brother-in-law to re-engage it.
Having fuelled the tank, the young man was said to have yanked off the cord before the generator exploded.
A neighbour, Mrs. Gift Peters, said of the incident:
“It had been long since they used that generator, so the man, Mr. Lawrence, asked the boy to start the generator and warm it properly since it had been long since they used it. So they bought the fuel and put in it. Immediately they started the generator, it exploded.”
Vanguard gathered that the explosion set off other generators belonging to the deceased, and also that of the occupants of the twin flat which were all lined up at the backyard and walled in by burglary proof.
Occupants of the twin flat were said to have fled upon sighting the fire, but the deceased and her daughter were reported to have been trapped inside their own apartment as the doors and windows apparently were shut in the heat of the flames.
One neighbour, Mr. Age Edward, said:
“When I heard that there was a fire, I rushed over to assist since they are my neighbours. When I arrived, the fire was so thick that we could not help out.
‘’We tried all we could to quench the fire, it was so horrible, it was later I heard that the man’s wife and child were inside.
“Personally, I contacted Quick Response, QIS. I called over three times, they did not respond. The first time it was busy, the second time it rang and stopped, the third time, it rang and stopped.
I did not have Fire Service number on the phone I was using yesterday. ‘’I didn’t bother to call anybody again. I tried my best since I am equally a public servant. We did our best, though it was not enough.”
When Vanguard contacted fire division of the QIS, the officials said they responded promptly, contrary to neighbours who disclosed that the fire men arrived two hours after they were called, and that they ran out of water.
Unit Commander of Fire Service at the QIS, Mr. Daniel Ibor, said his men arrived the scene 30 minutes after they were called due to the distance from Calabar to 8 Miles, which is on the outskirt of the city.
He said:
“We were called at about 9:30 pm and immediately we turned out for the fire. It is quite unfortunate that the fire involved fuel ‘We did our best’‘’Despite the distance, we still did our best to get there on time.
We have been asking people not to put fuel into a steaming generator. We advised them to allow it cool first.
“If it was a free burning fire, by the time we got there, we still could’ve saved a lot. Our response really stopped the fire from spreading to other property.”
The Nigerian Actress, Producer, and Director Juliet Ibrahim on October 14th did the Nigeria premiere of her new movie “Shattered Romance” to a selected audience at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, The Palms Shopping Mall, Lekki, Lagos.
A lot of celebrities graced the event as they were pictured on the Red Carpet…See Pictures Below….
When I saw this news, I laughed hysterically… I don’t think the people who banned this couple have been to Nigeria before and have met my Igbo brethren… I won’t say more than that… I hope you catch my drift though… When Igbos give names like “(Surname) Success (Name)Bright”, why would Prince Williams be a problem? Lol.
A French couple have reportedly been banned from naming their son, “Prince Williams”.
The parents said they thought the connection with British royalty would be useful, but a court ruled that using ‘Prince William’ as an extended first name could lead to a ‘lifetime of mockery’.
The couple, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, then asked to use the name ‘Mini Cooper’, after the classic British car, but that too was overruled.
The court cited an article of France’s civil code, which ‘allows judges to protect a child from a potential lifetime of mockery by overruling the parents’,
In the last year, a court in Valenciennes, northern France, banned one couple from naming their daughter Nutella, after the hazelnut spread, and another from calling their baby girl, Strawberry, because both youngsters would face being mocked.
But why would you name your child “Strawberry” and not expect him to be mocked? Okay, I apologize to my Igbo brethren, they won’t name their children such… at least, not that I know of!
Some soldiers in Lagos have been reported to have allegedly pummel an Official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, a Peter Owolabi, for stopping their van at the Obanikoro Bus Stop along Ikorodu Road in Lagos.
The soldiers, who were in a black Honda Accord car with number plate, CP 839 YAB, drove through the Bus Rapid Transit lane, when they were stopped by Owolabi at the Obanikoro bus stop.
It was gathered that when the official queried them for flouting the state traffic laws, the soldiers got down from the car, and surrounded him.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the commotion, which occurred at about 6pm, drew crowd to the scene. A resident, who asked not to be named, said that when the officers, who did not have any explanation for driving on the BRT lane, were given a fine ticket meant for violators, they became infuriated, and descended on Owolabi.
She added that a LASTMA cameraman, suspected to be recording the scene, had his camera smashed by the soldiers.
She said:
“There were four soldiers in the car, including a colonel. The soldiers were with the colonel, who did not come down from the car during the fracas. The soldiers were stopped at Obanikoro for driving violating traffic law.
“They were then given a fine ticket on the spot. But the officers refused to collect the ticket and blocked the road, preventing other vehicles from entering the service lane. They dealt blows on the officer and kicked anyone with a recording device, or coming close to intervene. It lasted for about 30 minutes.
“One of the LASTMA’s cameramen was also beaten and his gadget was shattered.”
It was gathered by the publication that Owolabi, whose eyes were reportedly swollen from the beating, had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bashir Braimah, confirmed the attack. He added that it was regrettable that the soldiers broke the traffic law with impunity.
He said:
“Our officials were out in a joint enforcement of the BRT lane violation. We were there with the police. It is regrettable that the soldiers violated the traffic law with impunity. They should be the custodians of law and not be working against the law.
“The law is no respecter of person, and the road traffic law must be obeyed in order to ensure the safety of lives and property. Over 15 vehicles belonging to the military violated the traffic law on Monday. Among them was a silver Toyota Matrix 103 AT fully loaded with top military personnel.
“There was also a bus belonging to the Nigeria Army College of Nursing with number plate, NA 830 BOA, an army green Peugeot with number plate, NA 284 B0/1, a silver Nissan, KTU 820 AY, a silver colour Toyota Camry, KJA 233 TB, a green Hilux truck, DHQ 232, among others.”
Braimah said the vehicles on the BRT corridors were either driven by soldiers or with military paraphernalia hanging in the vehicles.
