Kiesha Jenkins, 22, was ambushed by a group of men moments after she exited a car around 2.30 am, on Tuesday, October 6.
The men began to beat her and then shot her twice in the back, police said. Jenkins was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
Police are still on the hunt for the suspects, although they say it’s too soon to determine whether or not the incident was a hate crime or possible robbery.
“Kiesha was shot in the back around 2:30 am in North Philadelphia,” a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department confirmed. “She was known to the LGBTQ community as a transgender individual,” the spokeswoman said.
Police are treating the case as a homicide – not a hate crime – though that could change as the investigation continues, she added.
According to Huffington Post, at least 18 other transgender women have reportedly been killed in the US this year — and at least 16 of those victims, including Jenkins, were women of colour.

A tanker fire has claimed the life of one and burnt three trucks at Oshodi area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. PM NEWS reports that the incident occurred around 1:45am on Tuesday by the NAFDAC office, Oshodi.
A fuel tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, fell at a bend behind NAFDAC in Oshodi, spilling its content on the road, while an oncoming trailer, sensing danger stopped but a smaller truck thinking that the trailer was stationery tried to navigate by the trailer and with a spark from the vehicle’s silencer, fire broke out.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele told PM NEWS this morning that the spark from the smaller truck’s silencer ignited the fire.

He said that a man trying to scoop fuel from the spillage was burnt to death, while the drivers of the three vehicles escaped unhurt.
Akindele said the three trucks were burnt by the fire but that the efforts of LASEMA officials, fire service men prevented the fire from spreading and causing more damage.
He said his men, LASTMA officials and others were still on ground trying to remove the burnt vehicles from the highway. Akindele warned Lagosians to be careful of scooping fuel whenever a tanker spilled its content as they would never know when it would result to fire, lamenting that the life loss could have been prevented if the man had not attempted to scoop fuel from the spillage.
Three men, identified as Biodun Aguda, Dapo Olanrewaju and Olalekan Abraham, have reportedly been charged with conspiracy and stealing after they allegedly robbed two men of their ATM cards and forced them to divulge their pin numbers in order to withdraw money from their accounts against their wishes.
According to Daily Post, the accused aged 30, 27 and 30, respectively, reside at different parts of Agege, a suburb of Lagos State.
Corporal Mike Unah, the Prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offences on September 20 at the Iju-Ishaga area of the state.

Unah said:
“The trio conspired to forcefully collect the ATM cards and pin numbers of the complainants one Mr. Allen Sosu and Mr Tunde Fawehinmi and withdrew money from their accounts.
“The accused targeted their victims such that after the complainants finished using the ATM machine, they followed them and forcefully led them back to the ATM machine, compelling them to reveal their pins.
“The trio threatened to kill them if they refused to comply and withdrew N70, 000 from Sosu’s account and N145, 000 from Fawehinmi.
They plead not guilty!

11. Levy Mwanawasa (59) – Zambia
Levy Patrick Mwanawasa was the third Republican President of Zambia. He ruled the country from January 2002 until his death in August 2008.
He is credited for having initiated a campaign to rid the country of corruption.
On 8 December 1991 Mwanawasa was involved in a serious traffic accident in which his aide died on the spot.
He suffered multiple body injuries and was flown to Johannesburg, South Africa for medical treatment.
He remained hospitalised for three months. A lasting effect of the accident was his noticeably slurred speech.
A commission of inquiry was set up to investigate who was responsible for the alleged assassination attempt.

Suspected mastermind of the October 1, 2010 bombing which occurred in Abuja, Charles Okah, caused a row, by attempting to commit suicide during the Tuesday’s proceedings in his trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Punch reports that Okah, after ending an emotion-filled comment about his protracted trial during the court session, grabbed a nearby chair with which he made repeated but futile attempts to break a window in order to create an opening through which he could jump down from the court room located on the third floor of the five-storey building.
His frustration on Tuesday was ignited by his lawyer’s absence in court. Defence lawyers – Mr. Samuel Zibiri and O.O Otemu – were provided by the Federal Government-owned Legal Aid Council, after Okah in October last year, dispensed with the services of Lagos lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, whose law firm had defended the two of them since the case started in 2010.
Okah, who is standing trial along with Obi Nwabueze for terrorism charges arising from the October 1, 2010 bombing incident, sought the permission of the trial judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, to speak after it was discovered that his lawyer was not in court.
After the judge granted him permission to speak from the dock, Okah in a high-pitched emotional outburst expressed frustration about his long incarceration and the attendant deprivation of the opportunity to cater for his family.
Okah said,
“I have been incarcerated for about five years now, and I have a family to cater for. “My children would grow up without feeling the warmth of their father. I’m tired of this endless trial.”
It took the intervention of lawyers and some other persons who were in the court room for their respective cases to stop his attempt to commit suicide after his emotion-laden speech.
The chair with which he attempted to break the window was collected from him after he was overpowered and Justice Kolawole promptly adjourned the suit till October 20.
Okah, is a brother to former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Henry Okah, who is already serving jail terms in South Africa for the bombing near Eagle’s Square, Abuja on October 1, 2010 in which about 12 persons were said to have died.

A fake army general who is speculated to be a sponsor of Nigeria’s Most Wanted insurgents, Boko Haram, has been apprehended by the Nigerian Army.
A statement released reveals that troops of the brigade recently arrested one Aliyu Hussaini, popularly known as Colonel, a suspected Boko Haram terrorist and an Impostor who has been parading himself as a Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army.

“The troops, who were acting on a tip-off, said Aliyu Hussaini was a sponsor and also a member of the Boko Haram terrorist organisation.
