Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has stated that the Federal government is not clueless as to providing a lasting solution to handle the alarming rate of insecurity in different parts of the country.
In a statement released, Lai Mohammed who had a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, May 11, stated that the Federal government knows where different kidnappers with their victims but they are only being careful on how to attack them so as not to put the victims in harm’s way.
“It is no longer news that our dear nation is facing security challenges. However, I have read comments saying the Federal Government is overwhelmed and doesn’t have a clue as to how to tackle the challenges. Some have even gone as far as suggesting a truncation of the democratic order, a clearly treasonable stance.
Well, I am here today to assure all Nigerians that while the government acknowledges the security challenges we face at this time, from terrorism to kidnapping, banditry and farmer-herder conflict, it is definitely not overwhelmed and indeed it has the wherewithal, as you will see in the days ahead, to confront the challenges headlong and restore law and order, peace and security.”
Mohammed explained that the government indeed knew the locations of kidnappers, adding that security agencies were only being careful to avoid civilian casualties.
“One of the most difficult things to do, for a democratically-elected government, is to use the instruments of coercion against its own people. For example, while the nation’s military have superior firepower over the rag tag band of Boko Haram and ISWA, the terrorists most often than not operate among the populace, either in our villages or towns, hence the military, in tackling them, is usually careful to avoid collateral damage.
The same applies to the kidnappers who abduct our school children. Usually, the location of the kidnappers is not unknown to security forces, but they still have to exercise caution in order not to hurt the same children they are trying to rescue. Despite these inhibitions, the security forces have the wherewithal to decisively tackle the challenges” he said

A press statement issued by the company in Lagos over the weekend said this followed the lifting of the suspension of activation of new SIM cards and replacement of lost ones which the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy had announced last December.
Globacom said existing Glo subscribers and those who intend to join the network can now activate a new SIM or replace lost/damaged SIM on provision of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) which is the new guideline given by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
“For us, the needs of our customers come first. We are keenly aware of the difficulty the ban had on our existing and prospective subscribers while it lasted and look forward to the respite they will have with the recommencement of SIM activations”, the company said in the statement.
“We have already commenced SIM registration and activations in line with the announced guidelines of NCC. All our esteemed customers have to do is to visit the GLO SIM Activation outlet closest to them. A full list of our Glo SIM Activation outlets can be found at www.gloworld.com/ng/sim“, Globacom added.
The company had recently equipped its outlets nationwide with requisite facilities to enable Glo subscribers to register for their NIN and link it to their SIMs in an easy and convenient manner in line with NCC’s directive.
Globacom also introduced Appointment Manager, an application through which people who wish to register for NIN will be able to choose a day, time, and Gloworld outlet convenient for them to visit for the process.
