“I gained admission into the university at age 14” – Ayra Starr (Video)

Popular Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, widely recognised as Ayra Starr has disclosed that she was 14 years old at the time she gained admission to the university.

The Mavin Records princess claimed to have received her bachelor’s degree early because her mother had insisted that she complete her education before following her dream of being a teenage pop star.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Ayra Starr revealed the information, stating that her mother was the one who recommended that she moves to Lagos.

The “Rush” hitmaker went on to say that she took the JAMB exam with her older brother and was accepted into a reputable university based on her score.

In her words,

“I got into the university at 14. I feel like my mum has been using music to blackmail me since I was a child. She was like, ‘If you want to do music, you have to do this.’ When she suggested we relocate to Lagos from Benin Republic, I declined initially, but she convinced me that Lagos is the land of music.

She insisted that if I want to do music, I would have to finish school first. Usually, a lot of people in Nigeria finish secondary school at 15, 16. I knew that if I waited till I’m 15 [before completing my secondary school], I won’t be able to be a teenage pop star. And I wanted to be a teenage pop star. So, I joined my elder brother and wrote JAMB, what you guys called SAT here.

To be honest, the result wasn’t craazy to get me onto all these Ivy League schools but it was enough to pass by. It was enough for my mum. I got admitted into a good school. My course was for three years. It was International Relations. And immediately after my graduation, I started doing music covers online and that same year I got signed [to Mavin Records label].”

“That dance looks too choreographed” – X influencer states why she thinks the raunchy dance with Omah Lay and a fan was staged

A Nigerian X (Twitter) influencer who identifies as @ulxma has shared on the microblogging platform why she thinks the raunchy dance between Nigerian singer Omah Lay and a fan was staged.

The lady believes that the singer’s team inputted the dance behind the silhouette part because they wanted the show to gain traffic.

Recall that in the early hours of today, a video surfaced online that captured Omah Lay dancing on stage with a girl who was said to have attended the concert with her partner.

Sharing her take in multiple tweets, she said;

“That dance looks too choreographed. The stage setting; the way the curtains fall, the centralization of their silhouettes and the sync of their bodies all look rehearsed. He had one shot to give a raunchy show and he wasn’t going to do it with someone he wasn’t sure of. Looks like one of those things that performers do to generate buzz about their show. Nice strategy though ‘cause it’s working. It’s provocative; everyone’s talking about it. It’s trending and more people know his name. Mission accomplished. The chances of finding a random dancer in a specific part of the front row who just so happens to be a perfect dancer who understood the assignment to a T is low. It will also take a pro dancer to understand the angles that produce the right silhouette and maintain it throughout. If it’s not staged, then they put on a great and memorable show and I’m so impressed. Na dance she dance she no kill person.”

Nigeria’s Male basketball Team, D’Tigers Forced To Withdraw From AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers Due To Lack Of Funds

Nigeria’s senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, has been compelled to withdraw from the AfroBasket 2025 qualifiers due to financial difficulties, leaving their participation in doubt.

The team’s withdrawal was made public through an announcement on D’Tigers‘ official handle on the X App, disappointing fans across the nation.

Previously scheduled to commence their qualifiers on Saturday, 23 February, against Libya, D’Tigers‘ absence from the tournament is a significant setback.

Reports indicate that the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) is currently scrambling to secure funds from the Ministry of Sports in a last-ditch effort to enable D’Tigers’ participation.

The AfroBasket 2025 qualification tournament spans from February to November 2024 and serves as the platform for 16 nations to secure their spot in the FIBA AfroBasket 2025.

D’Tigers were drawn in Group B alongside Uganda, Cape Verde, and Libya for the qualifiers’ first window, set to take place in Tunisia.

However, their withdrawal raises concerns about the team’s chances and their ability to defend their title.

Having won the AfroBasket only once, back in 2015, Nigeria’s basketball fans had hoped for a strong return in the upcoming qualifiers.

As fans await further developments, the focus now shifts to the NBBF’s efforts to secure the necessary support and ensure D’Tigers’ participation in international basketball competitions.
