The Ogun State police command has arrested a 33-year-old woman, Olaide Adekunle, for reportedly selling her 18-month-old baby to a yet-to-be-identified buyer for N600,000.
The suspect was apprehended when her husband, Nureni Rasaq, filed a complaint at Sango divisional headquarters, that his wife left home for Lagos on March 15, 2023, with their baby girl, Moridiat Rasaq, but returned home without the baby.
He said all attempts to find out what happened to the child were futile because his wife was unable to give any reasonable explanation for her disappearance.
Following the report, the DPO Sango division, CSP Dahiru Saleh, directed his investigators to go after the woman, who was quickly apprehended. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to selling her kid to someone in Lagos for six hundred thousand naira (#600,000).
She said she sold the child because she took a loan from a microfinance bank, and when she was unable to repay it, the bank agents began harassing her and threatened to deal with her harshly.
As a result of this, she fled to Lagos and began selling sachet water. While hawking one day, she met a man who introduced her to the woman who eventually purchased the child in Lagos.
The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Babakura Muhammed, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible recovery of the baby.

Bishop Jacob Kwashi, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna state, has condemned the series of killings in the state.
Speaking at the mass burial of 33 people killed in an attack in Runji Village on Saturday, April 15, Bishop Kwashi said the state and federal governments know what they need to do to stop the killing and urged them to do it.
Bandits stormed the community recently and started shooting at the locals, killing many of them, including children.

In his words,
“We will not run away from our land. Even if they come tonight after us and we are killed, there will be some people who will talk and there will be the young who will rise again. So we ask that the government of Kaduna state, the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria..they should do the needful. They know what they should do to stop this evil. They know it. I have said it and let me repeat myself. If by mistake one cow is killed by any of the community here, the number of military troops that will enter and ransack the community and look for those to arrest because one cow has been killed… and now we have 33 corpses and a young boy of five years who has been beheaded. What has he done to these evil people”
Popular Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola-Salako, has revealed why she chose to stay in an abusive marriage with her first husband, Tunde Sobowale.
Foluke, who was married to him for three years, stated in an interview with TVC that she saw clear signs that he was abusive on their wedding night.
According to her, she was subjected to domestic violence by her husband but did not end the marriage immediately because she was afraid of public criticism.
She said she was scared of what people would say if she had filed for a divorce after only a few months of marriage.
She said when she eventually left the marriage in 2008, some people still insulted her without knowing what she had gone through at the hands of her spouse.
The 45-year-old thespian, who has since remarried her second husband, Kayode Salako, said,
“My first marriage, on the night of my wedding was when I noticed abuse. But because of what people will say… And God has already orchestrated it because my wonderful kids are from the marriage.
“When I finally decided to step out [of the marriage], people did not understand why I stepped out. But I understood that I needed to go. A lot of people did not receive it well, but if I hadn’t stepped out, if I had died there, by now I would have been a forgotten case.
“So, it is better for people not to accept my reality or my truth but I accept my own truth than for me to lose my life in the process of trying to prove to the world what I’m going through.”

According to him, his mother needed the money more and it was not cool for him to be 17 and driving around in a car when his mother did not have a car of her own.
He said;
“The person who I knew needed it more was my mum. So, I handed everything I made to her. I know it was cool to drive around the city as a 17-year-old in a cool whip. But I can’t drive a cool whip when my mum didn’t have a car or my mum has to borrow my keys. You know, I had to put her on first,” he said.
“Passing all of that to her, whatever investment she makes… I made my first million [naira] at 17 but I made more than a million. But it’s cool to be in that stage to be able to provide for your family.”
The Calm Down crooner went on to say that his ability to support his family and create possibilities for others is his greatest accomplishment.
“Someone created an opportunity for me to bless the world this much. So, I can’t imagine how much the people I helped are going to bless the world. You know, I go hard not just for myself. I go hard for them. As doors open for me, I wanna open doors for them,” he added.

Big Brother Naija star and skincare guru, Ifu Ennada has declared her love for middleweight champion Israel Adesanya of the UFC.
She stated she wouldn’t mind going on a date with him if the Nigerian-New Zealander mixed martial artist was game for it.
Ifu shared this while speaking in an interview with The Punch and discussing her favorite sports and sportsmen she admires.
In her words;
“I used to be a big fan of wrestling until I discovered that their matches were scripted, I also like boxing but I don’t really follow it. What I follow now is the MMA and there are some Nigerians there like Israel Adesanya and Kamaru Usman.
My favourite would be Israel, and aside the fact that he is extremely handsome and hot, the fact that he is also petty, I love it. What he did to Pereira’s son by mocking him the way he mocked him after he won, I love it, some people were saying ‘why’, and I’m like ‘why not?’ I like the fact that he looked for the guy and gave it back to him.
I know he is an adult but that is something someone like me would do, so, I love him for that. He is very confident, I just love Izzy, he walks into a room and you can feel his energy, and that is the type of person I am as well.
If he wants to go on a date with me, why not?
I was so happy, especially because he had lost to that guy three times before. I was delighted really and I left a comment on social media on a blog I follow, where I said, ‘a win for one is a win for all’ and someone even came at me, trying to bring politics into it because Izzy is Yoruba, and the person said something like ‘Igbos only choose to be Nigerian when it is convenient.’ And I just realised that this was coming from a tribalistic person.
I have always seen myself as a Nigerian, regardless of my tribe. I don’t see Yoruba, I don’t see Igbo and it is sad that someone will bring tribalism into sports. I almost placed a bet on the game actually. I had a feeling that Israel would win it, I think I forgot to tell a friend to place a bet on Izzy.”

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) management has distanced itself from Ukanwa Ikechukwu, a Corps member who was detained on suspicion of scamming a female police officer, ACP Modupe Okpaleke.
He was charged with defrauding a police officer of N235,000 on Friday, April 14 before an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Oyo state and was charged with fraud and theft.
According to a statement from the director of press and public relations, Eddy Megwa, the culprit, Ikechukwu left the NYSC when he finished his service in February 2023.
The statement read in part;
“The attention of the NYSC management in Oyo State has been drawn to the information circulating on social media about a corps member sent to jail in Ibadan, Oyo State, for criminal offence. Management wishes to make the following clarifications; the said Ukanwa Ikechuwuku is now an ex-corps member who passed out of National Service in February 2023.
Secondly, when he was serving, he collected a sum of N235,000 to purchase a physiotherapy machine for a woman at the police clinic where he was serving but failed to get the machine. Every attempt made by the woman to get a refund of her money from this ex-corps member proved abortive, therefore she decided to charge him to court for criminal offence.
I wish to emphasise that the NYSC uniform is not an immunity against any form of criminality because the laws of the federation applies to all and sundry.”
The defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusations at his arraignment in court.
Inspector Olufemi Omilana, the prosecution, informed the court that the suspect allegedly received N235,000 from Modupe Okpaleke on December 4, 2022, with the purpose to deceive.
Omilana went on to say that ACP Okpaleke met Ukenwa while seeking treatment for a leg ailment at the Police Cottage Hospital in Eleyele, Ibadan. Ukenwa suggested that Okpaleke purchase a bicycle.
The police claim that Ikechukwu, who was doing his NYSC at the Police Cottage Hospital in Eleyele, Ibadan, took N235k from the female officer there to help her but instead fraudulently used the money for his personal purposes.
According to the prosecution, the crime violated sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Oyo State 2000 Criminal Code.
