Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has been released after Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Ekaette Obot, sentenced him to 30 days imprisonment on 27 July, for alleged contempt of court after he objected to the presence of two armed police operatives inside the courtroom.
Journalist and Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore annnounced the release of Mr Effiong on Friday August 26.

Effiong was released from prison at around 8 a.m. to a waiting crowd of supporters outside the yard.
Speaking to reporters, the Human rights Lawyer said it was an honour to be imprisoned for the truth.
“I consider it an honour for me to be incarcerated for the truth,” Mr Effiong told reporters and supporters.
He added that his incarceration has strengthened his resolve to fight for truth and justice in Nigeria.
“This voice, till no end, is now louder,” he said.
Billionaire business, Ned Nwoko and his wife, Regina Daniels paid a visit to Delta State University and Regina got a rousing ovation from students after she was introduced.

Big Brother Naija season 7 housemate, Amaka, has been sanctioned for her negligence that almost burnt down Biggie’s house.
The level-up housemate who volunteered to make meat pies for the house for their pool party left the dough in the microwave oven timed at 20 minutes and exited the kitchen for the garden to join her colleagues.
The housemates got back to a house full of smoke and a damaged microwave oven.

In other news, a viral video of a lady stirring a boiling pot of soup with her long acrylic nails has caused a massive stir online.
In the trending clip, the slay queen revealed how she came up with an inventive way to prepare food for her partner and his friends while wearing a multicolored pair of incredibly long artificial nails, one of which was designed into a sizeable fork.
According to her, when her boyfriend and his friends visited her house, she was asked to make them a meal. She used the ‘nail fork’ to stir while she prepared a pot of decadent Egusi soup, since it would have been difficult to hold a kitchen spoon with her long nails.
The video, which was shared on her TikTok page, elicited reactions from social media users. A number of them noted that dipping nails into a pot of soup is unsanitary.
Dr. Suleiman Sabah, the father of a 16-year-old student, Fatima Suleiman, whose leg was amputated after she was knocked down by a teenage driver performing stunt driving in Sokoto, has disclosed that the parents of the culprit didn’t show any remorse for their son’s action.
It was earlier reported that Fatima was crushed by the driver, said to be 18-year-old, few hours after completing her final exam.
The driver, identified as Aliyu Sunusi Umar, was arrested by the police and arraigned before a Magistrate court which granted him bail.
However, he was re-arrested and rearraigned on Monday, August 22, and has been remanded in a correctional facility in Sokoto till the next court hearing next week.
Speaking on the woe that has befallen his family in an interview with Daily trust, the victim’s father, Dr. Sabah, wondered why the court initially granted the culprit bail when his daughter was still hospitalized.
He also disclosed that the culprit’s parents are not sympathetic towards his daughter’s plight and has shown no remorse for what their son did.
His words,
“The parents of the driver who claimed to be 18 did not show any remorse over what their child did.
“In fact, they only visited my daughter three times since the incident happened. When I arrived Sokoto, I and my lawyer sat with the parents of the child based on request of their lawyer who wanted the matter settled out of court. During the meeting, we agreed that my daughter would be taken abroad where she would get the best treatment and an artificial limb.
“We contacted three hospitals. One in Germany, one in Dubai and another one in England and we sent them all the necessary documents. As we are waiting for their response, I learnt that the case was transferred to the state’s CID and the state Commissioner of Police later summoned us to his office.
“After listening to us, he faulted the boy and ordered for prosecution. So, I received a call from the police that the case would be taken to a magistrate court for mention and when I and my lawyer went there, we were told that the presiding magistrate ordered the prosecuting police officer to go and amend the charges because it contained culpable homicide.
“From the amended charges, I knew that the case was being compromised because there is nothing like grievous body injury and the magistrate granted the suspect bail. We later complained to the Attorney General of the state who asked us to write a petition against the magistrate and the police and this is what we are doing now.

Popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has given a piece of advise to Nigerian youths who use social media for frivolous activities.
In a tweet posted on Twitter, the actor, who said he doesn’t have a problem with the youths and is only trying to sensitive them, said catching cruise and trolling people online won’t get them where they want to be.
He admitted that though the government are not performing their roles well, but there’s so much the youths can achieve if they focus on improving themselves. According to the 40-year-old, anything one focuses on will eventually grow,

“I have nothing against Nigerian youths. Just trying to wake them up. Catching cruise & insulting people every second won’t get you where you want to be. Yes the Govt hasn’t done well but there’s a lot you can achieve if you focus on self improvement. Whatever you focus on grows.”

Big Brother Naija level-up housemate, Bella, has declared that she has fallen head over heels for her fellow housemate, Sheggz.
The 25-year-old, who admitted her feelings about Sheggz during a conversation with fellow housemate Doyin on Thursday afternoon, said she’s okay with it if her relationship with Sheggz is all she takes out of the show.
She maintains that although winning the 100 million naira grand prize is not assured, leaving the house with Sheggz’s love is worth the prize and more.
“I cant hide my feeling anymore, I really like this guy I don’t care about what anyone or Big Brother will say about us. I really cannot hide my feelings anymore. There’s no rule book to win the prize. Even if its this relationship that I take out of this house I’m fine”. Bella said.

Talented Nigerian singers, Ruger and BNXN formerly known as Buju, have clashed on Twitter over who has released the bigger hit songs.
It all started when Buju, who released his latest studio album titled “Bad Since’ 97” in the early hours of today, took to Twitter to announce that his album is topping the charts.
He posted a screenshot of the chart and wrote, “What if I 🤔 what if I 🤔what if I 🤔COOOKKKK👨🏽🍳 #BadSince97”.
Ruger figured out that Buju was throwing a shade at him because the line “What if I, What if I, What if I” is from his recently released single “Girlfriend”, and fired back at him.
The Jonzing star pointed out that Buju doesn’t have a solo hit song as most of his hit songs are features, and fat-shamed him.
“Get a solo hit then talk to me fatty bum bum”, Ruger tweeted.
Responding, Buju fired back at Ruger while still gushing over his Number One spot on the chart.
“Project #1 and I didn’t have to whine my waist 🥰”, he responded.
He added that Ruger’s recently released albums, “The Second Wave: Deluxe” and “Pandemic” are holding the number 33 and 164 spot on the chart, so he doesn’t come close to him.

Mixed reactions have trailed a video of Big Brother Naija star, Ikechukwu Sunday Okonkwo, better known as Cross, locking lips with his mother.
The former Big Brother Naija star recently reunited with his mother after months of being apart, and he shared videos which captured the heartwarming moment on his Instagram page.
In the video, the mother and son, who appear to have missed each other so much, hugged and shared a kiss.
A portion of the video showed the reality star, who was equally pleased to see his mother kissing her on the lips, an action that sparked outrage on social media.
While fans gushed over the beauty of the video, some moral police noted that Cross’ kissing his mother on the lips was wrong.
An Instagram user @morafa_official wrote, “I love my mom than myself but I can’t just kiss her on her lips.”

A Nigerian lady has taken to Twitter to reveal the extreme step a desperate mother took to help her daughter secure a husband.
@OgoOn80 said the mother was worried because her first daughter was not yet married when her two younger daughters were already married.
She then advised her daughter to get pregnant for her boyfriend so he would be persuaded to marry her.
When she took in, the young man tried to deny the pregnancy but the mother, who wanted her daughter to get married at all cost, sent her muscular sons to the young man’s house to threaten him.
The threat worked as the young man immediately brought his family members to pay the lady’s bride price.

Unless you want to deceive yourself, the truth is that Nigeria is broke. While one can say that we are blessed with resources, the fact of the matter is that they are not that plenty anymore, and we are also cursed with people who do not know how to manage the scarce resources.
Every leader who has come and gone has found a way to further deplete our reserves – either by squandering, spending foolishly or straight-up stealing. Amongst the stealers, nobody comes close to former military dictator, General Sani Abacha.
The bad boy who allegedly died after rounds of aggressive cuddling with some exotic women stole so much from us that his wife once allegedly said “no matter how much they recover, we can never be as poor as Dangote”. And do you know how much has been recovered?
Just when you think it’s all over, you hear that the FG has recovered one life-changing and destiny-altering sum of money from some western country. And these monies always come in a timely fashion, when Nigeria needs FOREX. Problem again is that we have poor managers of resources. But I digress.

May 4 2020: In a statement from the Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, it was disclosed that approximately $311,797,866.11 of the Abacha loot was repatriated from the US and Jersey.
August 14 2020: Ireland signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal government to return €5.5 million looted by Sani Abacha.
August 2022: Nigeria and the United States government reached an agreement on the return of about $23 million of more Abacha loot. The Attorney General of the Federation, Malami signed the agreement.
If you whip out your calculators, you will see that Uncle Sani has sent us approximately $4 billion since he died in 1998. Is your head spinning? Because mine is. And the fact that President Buhari once said that Abacha never stole is still bursting my brain. Or, stay with me. Maybe Bubu was correct and Abacha did not really steal. Maybe he merely kept those monies for us, to shower us with love on our rainy days. Right?
